Title: AMD 7xxx GPU ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Wed, 02 November 2022, 10:39:47
Tp4 is @ maximum confirmation bias + Xcite..

Your PRedictions ?

In the last tech talk, they did say they increased power efficiency by "more than" 50% performance per watt in the next GPU.

Soooooo.... if 6900xt is ~300 watt, + 50% performance + 100 watts (if they do a 400watt iteration).

1.5*1.25 = 1.5x to 2x performance - ish.. ?

At least 50% increase, is pretty much guaranteed. But then there's ray tracing, where they may still be behind. Full on legit ray tracing adoption is still 5 to 10 years away though, so fake lights aren't going anywhere.

Nvidia 4090 = 37985 passmark

6900 xt = 26163
6950 xt = 28189

79xx xt =  ~39000 - 52000  ??

Ray Tracing is expected to be on par with Nvidia 3000.

Tey don't actually need to beat the 4090, it's a halo product most will never own.  Most people are mid-tier buyers, so crush the 4060 and 4070 and it's a win.

Why LLann crush Tp4 dreams.   (https://cutekawaiiresources.files.wordpress.com/2018/07/26.gif?w=560)

Ray tracing for Nvidia has already reached the end of Moore's Law but also peak generational jump, it's only 2 (maaaybe 3) generations from the point of getting nothing more despite more and more RT cores. The next gen will be marginally better, the next nearly nothing, beyond that it stops scaling almost entirely. Not an expert on it or why, but basically it's like CPU cores, we already passed the point where more is going to help in leaps and bounds. So even if anything comes out that can really takes advantage of RT, it's not going to be beyond what the new AMD can handle for the most part, now or even really far into the future.

High refresh and 4k is really the driving force in cards and even that is going to cap pretty soon.

There's probably alot of room for RT growth in more detailed textures and refractive sub-surfaces. the playable frame rate kind of RT right now is still very crude.

Supports 8K 165hz.. wha.a.......

Ok so 150%.. that matches nvidia 4090.

999 $ 7900 xtx.   7900 xt $899..

NICE...  with that,

Possibly expect $500-600 for 6900xt

That Display port 2.1 is quite interesting.

8k 165hz, 4k 480hz.

Motion clarity is dependent on high refresh , but also Pixel persistence.

Currently OLED has poor motion clarity despite fast response/ refresh, it takes a long time for oled to hit the target brightness. So despite being fast to respond, it's still a blurry technology at the end, equivalent to non-strobed 120hz lcds.

Whereas, IPS LCDs strapped to light cannons match CRT level motion clarity at usable brightnesses.

The current limit on IPS for peak motion clarity is ~100-120hz (this is already faster than an FW900 crt), even though the panel itself is capable of 240hz-360hz, the motion clarity actually drops when driven higher.

In that way,  We might see more real utility for say 8K 120hz in an esport title, BEFORE something like 4k 480hz.

That said, Not sure these cards can do esports at 8k120.  prolly LOL and dota, maybe csgo.

End of the day, say the computer is $1000,  + $1000 GPU.

~39000 passmark / $2000 (amd 7900 xtx)

~39000 passmark / $2600 (nvidia 4090 rtx)

That's a pretty obvious value proposition where raster performance is concerned.  Ray trace perf is a bit different, but I'd argue not a huge value added at the moment.  well into the future perhaps.

8k 165hz sounds nice, but I don't think it'll do any good other than HIGH SPEED youtube. But maybe 4k super speed is easily runnable on nicer games.

Nvidia doomed? What will happen next on the chapter of history, only when we get we will know

The power requirements are likely to save you close to $100 per year (if you play a lot) and that doesn't even include cooling your house, just power draw. You can laugh but an extra 300 watts can really make a room/house much warmer.

You also will save some by not having to replace your psu and case to handle/fit a 4090.

About the only way I could see owning a 4090 here in southwest is if I can pump all the heat outside with water cooling. That or move the PC outside and run the wires in using long wires.

Already been able to find 6900's before the announcement for around the $600-$700 range.  It is nice to see AMD drop this around that MSRP and it's not using the weak/problematic ATX 3.0 standard cable (fire hazard).

I wonder what game I will be playing with higher graphics ability : )
I only played CSGO and Minecraft because Low Requirements, now they are still my favorite games because Simple Mechanics and non stop fun

Now 4k 144hz is available, I bought monitor for it, and I buy this graphics card can play : )
