Using a Xornet atm, been playing D3 lately so I figured I'd switch to a mouse that's cheap to replace if I end up clicking it to death.

@Bucake: Yep this is correct. Griffin Powermate is a controller and can be programmed for almost any application to do things. I use it for Final Cut Pro and as a volume control.

As for the Apple Keyboard remark, i'm not sure what you mean by this. If it was supposed to be a chirp it really was pretty pathetic.

One benefit I see with trackballs is that it resists your urge to play games when you should be doing work  :p

At work I have a "Logitech cordless laser mouse" that I bought from a surplus store like geeks.com. It doesn't have any markings on it that shows the model or anything besides "Logitech" and "Performance Laser 848nm".

I've got a LTrac on the way from Massdrop to replace it.

is there any product especially made to help with this? like grip tape that isn't too thick or whatever?
any ideas?

I know Artisan makes grip tape, not sure about thickness, but their pads get a lot of praise so I'd assume the tape is at least decent.
You can also buy pre-cut pads of grip tape, can't remember the manufacturer of those, but there's a good chance any site that sells mouse feet will also sell something like that.

They're best pressed near the outer edge in the middle, it's not an issue at all. Only the switches could be better.

Zowie FK... but I don't like it. The buttons, including the wheel, have too short travel. Otherwise, it's a good mouse and the shape is quite well thought out... I just don't see any reason to pick it over a modern roccat. Perhaps if I wanted to switch to palm grip, or if the side buttons were usable on both sides at the same time...

Zowie EC2 eVo. I think it's a great mouse, only possible cons in my opinion are the scroll wheel is a tad bit heavy and the glossy finish might not be for everyone.

I'm using a Logitech G502 at the moment. Need to move up since my G9x was looking a little worse for wear after 4 years of heavy use.

Glad I moved up to the G502, very similar shape.

I'm using the CM Storm Devastator and I'll make a review of it soon...

Sensor: Pixart PAN3309DH

Calling it "bad" is underrating it. It goes far beyond that... It's the worst gaming mouse I've ever seen, it makes any Philips Twin Eye mouse (even the CM Storm Sentinel) look good next to it  :-X

Roccat Kone XTD here.

I had the Kone for 4 years before deciding to upgrade to the XTD. I love the variable lighting - was awesome when I changed from the red LEDs on the Sidewinder X6 keyboard to the blue LEDs on the Blackbird. A couple of mouse clicks, and presto, all the colours match again :)

Logitech M705.  Had an MX600 (which I prefer over the M705).  I also have a  M570 trackball still in its package.  This is for my main setup at home.

At work, just use a ****ty Dell mouse.  I have a Magic Trackpad that I use with an old MacBook Pro, but I'm not too fond of it.

I also use an old PS/2 Dell optical mouse with a 10 yr old laptop that I'm running Linux.

The one I prefer to use the most is the Steelseries Sensei (not the RAW edition, the original). It lets me have pretty insane sensitivity (about 11k CPI), with an option to have hardware in the mouse reduce that sensitivity when I am making very slow movements. Lets me fly around my dual screen setup without having to worry about precision when trying to only move in small increments.

Do you know that that CPI/DPI is achieved through positive interpolation, which is just about the same concept as upscaling pictures/videos, which means, it's not really as accurate as a native CPI/DPI would be. Kinda like doing this:
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9219/mw2cb.jpg

PS: But the main difference between CPI (DPI)/Picture or Video Resolution is that higher CPI/DPI doesn't means better, so don't misunderstand the example!

When you try to force a sensor to achieve a higher CPI/DPI, you get a lot more noise, jitter and a much less precise tracking, so, using 11k CPI/DPI is just really (pardon me for the word, but it's necessary) stupid. Here's an example of a 2000 CPI/DPI (AVAGO 3050) sensor working up to 3200 CPI/DPI through interpolation:

You get lots of jitter and anything above 1600 CPI/DPI has a fair amount of mouse prediction to makes things worse.

The max CPI/DPI of the older version of the AVAGO 9500, which is Steelseries Sensei's sensor, is 5700 CPIs/DPIs. Anything above that will contain higher amounts of jitter, smoothing and maybe even input lag and is just not recommendable.

Fair call, this makes sense if it is achieving it through interpolation like you say. Perhaps the Sensei is using some of that fancy gimmicky onboard processor to compensate? I've got other mice that run at around that 5500-6500 DPI range (a Saitek and a Razer) and don't notice any jitter, or lag, whatsoever with the Sensei by comparison.
Thanks for the info though, I didn't really think to investigate the difference between CPI and DPI.

I am currently using a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500, the name is longer than the mouse itself. It is our company standard mouse for the laptop users. Although it has decent accuracy and works on lots of surfaces, it is too small. I loved the logitech mouse that came with their Wave keyboard, but I lost the receiver and they don't keep it in their spare parts anymore, so that's a loss.

Now, I was looking for a new mouse and was thinking about the Logitech Performance MX, due to it's programmable buttons and that it works good on different surfaces, but then I saw this thread. A lot mention that they are using a trackball, and now I am intrigued. I like that a trackball stays in place on the desk, it seems to be ergonomical, but how different is the experience?
How is the experience in CAD software (PTC-software mainly)?

Edit: A last question, how good is the logitech M570 for mobile use?

Thanks for the info though, I didn't really think to investigate the difference between CPI and DPI.

Basically, the dictionary meaning of each one, which doesn't makes any sense at first is:

CPI = Counts per Inch
DPI = Dots per Inch (dots as in the number of pixels on your screen!)

Your mouse sensor always works with Counts Per Inch, but those get translated later into Dots per Inch so that your computer may understand them and move the cursor accordingly.

So, in a 800 CPI mouse, if you move your mouse left for a single Inch the sensor will make 800 Counts, then those will be sent to your computer which will move the cursor 800 Dots (or Pixels if you prefer) towards left on the screen.

In the end, as many say, it's almost the same thing because they both have the same value and one always gets converted into the other, but Counts are related to the sensor, while Dots are related to the screen.

Also, it has no relationship whatsoever with accuracy. A good video that explains some of this, and even more, is this one, from a Logitech's Senior Engineer:

Right now I'm using my p.o.s Razer Naga Epic, because I'm at a LAN-party of a sort.

It's amazing how much of an improvement the 2014 version is.

I just wish I could find another MMO-gaming mouse that I like, Razer is a continues disappointment in my case.

I bought the G502 because I wanted a new mouse. It's a nice mouse, and it accommodates my claw grip style handling very well. I am tempted to say I finally found the mouse that can replace the G9(x) for me.
