Regarding the silencing clips; I think I must have an incorrect mental picture of what is going on here. Are these in place of using o-rings?More in place of stickers. But they achieve the same thing just feel slightly different
so the topside of the pcb has smd leds? Sorry if I'm out of the loop on it.
Grabbing some of all of this no matter what :thumb:
Are the stab plastics compatible with SPRiT's wires (this would solve the 7u vs 6,25u problem for me since I still have wires)?Standard 1.6mm diameter wires will work, so yes.
Either way, I'll definitely need stabs, so I'll order those early and push in a few switches next month, that way I'll have the early shipping even though I have to wait for money :)
Zeal, how would one remove the silencing clips if it needed to be removed (change leds, fix switch, etc.)?
Any chance we can get a 2u only option for the stabilizers? Like maybe a 4-pack? I'd like to buy a set for VE.A or maybe Ergodox and have no need for a 6.25u or 7u wire. It would be nice for number pads too...

can all of these items be ordered and shipped together and does the pcb have some sort of first-run marking?
can all of these items be ordered and shipped together and does the pcb have some sort of first-run marking? They'll all be shipped together. "Rev 0" will be the first run marking, unless there's something else people wanted to see...Trying not to clutter the PCB with text.

Do the text in gold or something to sginify the first run :p

Cool. I was thinking maybe a 24k gold plaque with a REV.0 Engraving.. maybe the 0 could be a 1 carat diamond. just kidding ;)
No, the LEDs are installed on the back. PCB has holes to accommodate the LEDs shooting upwards into the switch. This prevents interference issues and doesn't require SMD compatible switch bottoms.

What? I thought LEDs are installed like usual, on the top of the switch. Any pictures you can show us?
Will have to keep the back side of the PCB private for now. Just know that it uses a special type of SMD LED and lights the switch from below. There is no through hole LEDs required/support for the Zeal60.

The golden/yellow parts you see on the PCB will reflect the actual look. :) Zeal60 and the golden Zealio switch will be on both sides of the PCB.

During the GB stage, only the shown 3 stabilizer packs will be offered to help with spacebar stabilizer MOQs. Sorry for the inconvenience.

So, if I understand correctly, the LEDs will be presoldered, and we don't need the "4 pin RGB LED" from your other group buy, right?
Glad to see rounds and rounds of these Zealios still going :D
I have a question about the stabs, are they compatible with pretty much every plate/PCB combination, i.e. a Lightsaver?

Will there be an R2 on the pcb? I was about to order one but it's already sold out :(I saw on the /r/mk thread that there's going to be one next year some time hopefully!

Thanks for setting me straight. That makes a lot more sense than the frankenswitch I was mentally constructing to accommodate this.
Sorry not stickers, I meant the foam ones that sit on top of the switch, can't remember what they're called. Never seen ones for the top of the switch besides these and the GMK versions. Might have to look around to find those.

damn! pcb sold out!!
Any idea when the firmware for the Zeal60 will become available? Was thinking if it's TMK it shouldn't be too hard to get a QMK port going.
I just got around to trying out my R3 67g Zealios in a keyboard esque (not yet soldered) environment. I realized that some of them sound very similar to my 62g ones, but some do some really strange clicking noise when depressed quickly (they sound normal when depressed veeery slowly). Did anyone experience something like that before? Does anyone know a fix for it? I'll try to fix it tomorrow, but if anyone has an idea it will probably save me a lot of time.
I've been sort of inactive for awhile but R4 brought me back! really excited for the 78g!
Try lubing the top and bottom of the spring?
Yes, many of your concerns/issues have been addressed over the Summer when I visited the factory in June. We had a lengthy discussion with the Engineers and various improvements were touched base on and will be implemented for R4.

Appreciate Your Answer! it sounds QC issues prevail until R3.

Zeal, can you tell me what controller is used with Zeal60 PCB? And what LED controller?
I notice there are 14 breakout pins: 6 are near Tab, 4 between 1 & 2, and 4 between H & J. Any particular reason why they are positioned that way?
Possibly a dumb question, but if I am a fan of the clicky keys, such as MX blue, would I enjoy the linear aspect of Zelios? I believe that these are similar to the clears, browns and blacks, which means no clickThey have a tactile bump just no real clicking sound. Ms brown and clear are the same. Black have no bump at all. So you'll feel the same sort of bump as with blues just quieter.
I am tempted to try, but alas, I am a clicky key individual..

I also prefer clicky keys, but I find they attract too much attention in offices and public places. Right now I'm using gateron blues at home and my work room at the office. But for my travel keyboards (60% & Planck), I'm fitting them with Zealios. I find they are the best unmodded MX compatible switches if blues are out of question.

So I use blues at my work (co-workers learned to deal with my eccentricity) If Blues ARE an option, how would you rate zelios vs them? And which would flavor would you choose?
I know a lot of people who prefer Zealios to blues.
I wouldn't lube Zealios. They already have lube so lubing them again makes them mushy.
Is there a difference between R3 and R4 65g switches?
Thanks!
I wouldn't lube Zealios. They already have lube so lubing them again makes them mushy.
I would disagree with you. Too much lube would make it lose its tactile bump. Properly done, they feel like hot knife through butter.

What mixture of lube and method of application would you recommend?
I had my board built with the switches and, admittedly, the only instruction I provided was "light lubing." Upon return, the switches felt mushy and the feeling of tactility was diminished greatly. I blamed the second coat of lube.
Quick one, what would be closest to the feeling of a 67g on SA be if its on a cherry?
Quick one, what would be closest to the feeling of a 67g on SA be if its on a cherry?
I don't use SA, so I can't help you there. If you like the feel of 67g, then it should work great with all caps.
If I already placed an order for x120 65g switches, is it possible to just add x10 78g switches? Or will I need to add x20 to my order? Thanks!
Any plans for a TKL pcb?
What do I need to order for 60% standard layout board? I've never assembled a board myself, but if i do it has to be with these Zealios.
Any plans for a TKL pcb?
Or a 96-key? ;D
How much easier will it be to use the 65g milky switches vs. 78g. I have limited experience in soldering.
I had a browse through this thread but I didn't see what the estimated shipping date will be. Did I just miss it somewhere?

If I order some Zealios, but also order stuff like LEDs, will the other items ship with the switches? Or am I not allowed to order them together?

For items such as LEDs, etc, those will be shipped with the switches when they're all ready to go out.

That is a very inexpensive custom than. I'd highly recommend avoiding the taobao clear stabs though. These are far more superior.

@ZealPC I wasn't paying close enough attention to GH and the PCB sold out before I could snag one. I'm sorry if this was already addressed, but do you have an ETA of a second batch? Ordered 100x 78g and a set of those gorgeous stabs! Thank you, supreme group buy commander!
Second batch is scheduled for early next year, no dates yet.

Any plans on a Zeal65 coming out along with the 2nd batch?
Zeal, any possibility to ship those clear stab as soon as you received them? I mean shipping from the factory to you, probably will not be all at the same time for all the different products in this GB.
Personally just waiting for VE.A to be ship and arrive. Earliest to reach me would be end of Sept, this is my own guess. Have only ordered the clear stabs this time around as I have Zealios ready from the last 2 GB. Because the order only contain clear stabs, if you receive the shipment for them first, would you be shipping them out to orders that only have clear stabs (for this example), or would you be waiting for all the products to arrive and ship out orders by their order number. Of course it would be possible that the stabs would reach you the last, if that is the case, nothing much as be done for you to ship them out early.
Zeal, how many layer does the PCB have? And can we see the other side of the PCB? If possible, I want to drill a hole in the middle of GHB keys for a trackpoint mod. Looking at the lines I think it just might be possible, but still need to see the other side to be certain.

Double layered PCB. For the time being the other side won't be shown for specific reasons, but there are many traces running across the GHB keys so you wouldn't be able to drill a hole there.
Has anything been done to improve key wobble present in past rounds?
Stem mould is being tweaked to reduce wobble, and will be ready for the R4 production.
Why not create a trackpoint that can be wired in on top of a PCB instead? Just put wires between the switches and put the trackpoint controller in the case?

Yes, Gateron has finished tweaking the stem mould and said it wobbles less, just waiting on one final part of another thing...Will get a bunch of new samples shipped to me in a week.
Just got new R4 prototypes in. Vertical wobble is gone, horizontal wobble feels about the same as regular Cherry right now. Will get Mr. Munch to get a second opinion and prep a video.

Yes, I have stabs in. I'm going to be assembling a friend's mobik with em and do a photoshoot.
Man, I need to find a TKL to put these sweethearts into... Phantom or something korean...?
I like my sixties flat. Plus I already have three with proper cases and two Alps with plastic cases...
@Zeal
I ordered some silencing clips but want to change the shipping address. What is the best course of action?
Thanks

Me too! Long term project, but really excited still.
Really interested in those silencing caps for my Zealio board. Do they noticeably change typing feel? They are designed to silence the upstroke as well, I assume?
//e now my R1 stems aren't sexy anymore. :'(

That horizontal wobble feels has stopped me from buying some more that purple magic since round 1. Thanks for the hard work Zeal.
What is up with all the wobble complaints?
I still have some R2 67g and they do not wobble any more than Cherry switches.
Looking forward to compare the R4s.
Did the clear stabs never get a clever Zeal name? I see the silencing clips are Zealencios, which is great.
No Zealistabs? Ztabilizers? Stabilizeals? This makes me sad. :(
Please forgive the n00b question but I am currently using a board with R3 78g zealios and now that the wobble is gone I am thinking about buying some R4s and putting them in. I don't want to desolder the switches so would there be any issues leaving the bottom of the switch R3 and having everything (spring, stem, etc) else R4? I'm assuming this would not be a problem at all... thanks!
Hey zeal,
Any idea when R2 of the PCB might happen? I'm thinking of building a custom 60% and want to roll with the purple delicious pcb.

I believe he stated that it would be early next year before for the re release of the PCB but no specific dates.
I'm considering putting in an order, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to pull the trigger. Do you know when this round is expected to close? Thanks!

Does anyone have any thoughts on 62g vs 65g? I've tried MX browns and I didn't get enough feedback when actuating so I ended up always bottoming out. Is 62g sufficiently more tactile than browns that I could go with that, or should I step up to 65g to get real differentiation from browns?
All else equal, I'd prefer the lighter switch; but I would go for the heavier switch if the tactile feedback is better.
Thanks!

Hey Zeal, not sure if you're able to read this before the email I sent to the website - I accidentally forgot to place an additional order onto my first one, and so I made a second order. I'm hoping to combine these two together so I don't have to pay the extra shipping fees. Looking forward to the 78g switches!

I would suggest 67g if you're looking for a good amount of feedback. 65g will suffice but the bump is most pronounced on 67g.
To me, if you prefer light switches but want a bigger tactile bump I think the 62g is sufficient. My first board was 62g and my second 67g, and I like the 67g because of the heavier weight. But in terms of bump, I feel that the 62g is just as "bumpy", it just doesn't have the cushion at the bottom out compared to the 67g.

Working on tweaking the leaf design again this round to provide more tactile feedback than last. 62g already has a larger bump than browns, so If you like the lighter spectrum of switches, I'd say go for 62gs.
If I ain't grunting with each keystroke, I need more feedback.
Quick bump.

So I've got a question which has probably been addressed ad nauseam, but here we go: What leds work best with zealios switches? Also, what are the pros and cons of adding leds inside the switch versus on top of the switch?
I'm planning my first keyboard build and would like to use purple leds. From what I've read, some leds can rub on certain keycap profiles when installed on the switch versus inside the switch. I'll be using GMK keycaps on the board I'm building and definitely don't want any clearance issues. The research that I've done led me to the purple/uv leds here http://www.switchtop.com/product/2x3x4mm-leds (http://www.switchtop.com/product/2x3x4mm-leds). Will these work with zealios switches and if installed on the switch will they rub on GMK switches?
Thanks for your help! :thumb:

I have heard of cases where 2x3x4mm LEDs still had clearance issues and cases where they did not. My guess is that it's the dimensional tolerances of the LEDs combined with the dimensional tolerances of keycaps. 1.8mm LEDs, however, do not have any clearance issues whatsoever. It also depends which side of the switch the LEDs are installed on. If they are "above" the switch (monitor side), the LED size shouldn't matter. If they are installed "below" the switch (user side), that's where you run into clearance issues.

Good information here, thank you! I was not aware that you could install leds above or below the switch, is there a difference? Also, do you know why one would install the LED on the inside of the switch versus on top of the switch? It seems like quite a bit of additional work to open each switch and install the led. Thanks again for your help!

You do not have to open the switches to install LEDs. Some switches will allow for SMD (surface-mounted device, see SMT vs through-hole technology for PCBs) LEDs, but Zealios do not. Your PCB also has to be SMD LED compatible. The position of the LEDs (above or below the switch) is also dictated by your PCB. The difference is just where the illumination source is. Most shine-through keycaps will have the legends on the upper half (monitor side) of the key, with the exception being boards that have function layer legends on the front of the keycaps. If your LEDs are below your switch, the lighting will look dimmed and a little odd, but the position of your LEDs does not affect functionality. Since you plan to use GMK keycaps, it won't matter where the LEDs are because GMK keycaps are not shine-through.

Ahhh I think I'm getting it. So SMD LEDs for below the switch lighting, through hole LEDs for on top of switch lighting (above or below the switch). Okay, so I'll definitely be installing the LEDs on top of the switch. And it seems that for above/below the switch orientations depend on the orientation of the switch (right-side-up or upside-down)? It looks like there is only one spot for an led to be inserted through switch housing.

Zealios also have the ability to install 2x3x4 LEDs inside the switch housing. This allows you to have the color selection of the larger LEDs while also not worrying about clearance issues with Cherry profile (GMK) keycaps.
I did this with my last board since there are no UV/dark purple 1.8 mm LEDs. If you put them inside the housing then you can't install sip sockets since they are occupying the space the sockets would normally go. There are trade-offs but it's good to know all your options.

although it might seem like a good idea but it will be a pain in the ass when you need to remove the LED or desolder the switch for whatever reasons. since the LED is inside the switch, you will have no way to desolder the pins and pull/push the LED up; instead you will have to pull the entire switch out together with the LED

A quick search turns up UV/purple 1.8mm LEDs for me.
You can get little metal tube things which fit in the holes on the PCB for the LEDs which would allow for swapping of LEDs even if they are mounted inside the switches.
These things:Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/4qh0aR7.jpg)
They fit though the PCB and fit flush on top then you solder then on the underside.

Will there be drops of the springs in the future? From my understanding, they are custom springs and I want to fine tune the weights of the switches I have coming in :p it would be great!!Unfortunately the springs won't be sold separately for the time being.
I think the one you got is for leds. They're called HOLTITEs heres ones that supposedly fit leds, they didn't fit my gh60 pcb though so better do some measurements before you buy.

Zeal also sells them, most of the time they're in these black casing however he sells them pre-removed.

Hey zeal, ever consider making a hotswapable switch pcb?

Any idea on when you'll be getting more PCBs?
@ZealPC I wasn't paying close enough attention to GH and the PCB sold out before I could snag one. I'm sorry if this was already addressed, but do you have an ETA of a second batch? Ordered 100x 78g and a set of those gorgeous stabs! Thank you, supreme group buy commander!
Second batch is scheduled for early next year, no dates yet.
If we ordered clear stabs + aristotles + zealios (aka me) will we get them all together?
Also what is the ETA on the first and last of those two?

Yes, everything will be packed together and shipped as one. ETA is still Nov, should get a more definite date tonight hopefully.

Was there any updates on pictures of the Stabs?
Was there anything in particular you wanted to see? The listing has a few angles of the stabilizers -- hard to make stabilizers look enticing :P
Do you have any more of them pictures of the PCB? I need my fix!
Just a notice for those procrastinating - GB pricing will end Saturday midnight (PST), and be adjusted up a bit to "pre-order pricing". This price will remain until the items are on hand, where Retail pricing will kick in.

Just curious what are the items that will become pre-order pricing? Stab, clips, switches??? Thanks

Thanks
Everything in the GB - switches, stabs, silencing clips.
If I want to add something can I send you the email? I already place to order few weeks ago.

If anyone needs to cancel their 60% pcb order hit me up :)
I have been fabricating a custom winkeyless style case with a 1.5mm plate with slightly larger cutouts in 3mm acrylic. Zeal, is the footprint of the Transparent Stabilizers on the pcb any larger than that of normal pcb-mount stabilizers?

Hey Zeal, any reason you went with the age-old USB mini b instead of the sweet new USB-C? Time? Cost? Inexperience? All of the above?
Have you/were you toying with the idea? Maybe Rev1?
There are a few reasons, and USB C was considered, but eventually not used for the Zeal60.
1) Majority of aftermarket keyboards are designed with Mini USB in mind. Therefore the hole for these cases usually cannot accommodate the large 8.3mm wide connector+rubber exterior housing.
2) A large amount of keyboard enthusiast would prefer to have a matching custom cable for their keyset. As of right now, only one cable vendor is offering USB C sleeved cables. Options for custom sleeved/matching USB C cables are quite limited at this moment.
3) Reducing cable clutter. People that own multiple boards generally will be rotating them in and out. Would you really want to have one mini USB cable, micro USB cable, USB C cable on your desk dangling around?
4) There may be clearance issues with the current left aligned USB port if a USB C female port is used. The female end has a widest point of 11.75mm for its anchors and is 9.75mm long(connector to end). The distance between the switch pin of "Esc" and "1" is only ~9.8mm.
There's no question that USB C is a much superior connector, but it needs some time to mature a bit before everyone shifts over. For custom builds, you can definitely design around USB C, but when going for maximum compatibility like a 60%, it's best to stay with Mini USB.
Besides the old "no other devices use USB-mini connectors, so it's just an extra cable lying around" argument, which is only true if you don't actually use your keyboards, what benefits exist with USB-C?It is a more robust connector, especially when compared to the deprecated mini-b.

The footprint of the transparent stabilizers are a bit larger than regular Cherry pop-in PCB mount stabs due to the extra nut required for the screw.
Here are the dimensions of a sample I recorded with a caliper:
Length - 19.65mm
Width - 6.8mm
Height - 2.73mm(nut end), 3.27mm(wire end) *measured from base that would touch PCB surface to top.

Could you take a pic with some shine-through caps? I'd like to see how well the light diffuses throughout the body of the switches
I don't own any of those shine through lettered caps. Everything is either GMK, EnjoyPBT, or Cherry Dyesub. :|
Looking good! Any details on the firmware yet? And what about per-key programming?

Zeal60 is QMK/TMK compatible. You can build your own firmware and set individual keys as desired. Right now everything you see has been done with TMK.

Is it possible to switch weights on zealios switches for an order without paying extra at this point or is it too late? (Ordered a while ago during the group buy phase)
Zeal, for the shipping date, I think you're expecting to get the switches after the 15th and the stabs after the 21st. Since I had both in my order I'm using the 21st as my marker, but it's going to take you some time to sort through and ship out right? I ask because that's Thanksgiving break and I won't be at my shipping address until the following week. Thanks.
With how many tickets I sent to you and all those combining orders, do you think I still have my original order #?

Heh, I've also switched my order more than once too. Adding more stuff on, subtracting some off, and adding more back on. Zeal is responsive, helpful, and friendly. Couldn't be happier giving him my money.

As long as your original order wasn't cancelled, the earliest order # you have will be the one in the fulfillment queue. The additional add-ons will be fulfilled at the same time the earliest # gets sent out.

Is there any way to tell the difference rounds of switches?
Is there any way to tell the difference rounds of switches?
Yes! I feel like it would be very important to tell r4's from everything. Is there any way to tell the difference rounds of switches?
Do you mean R2 vs R3 vs R4?
I want to know too - the visual way, but not until you open the switch or have to measure the force curve yourself.
There's no point in stickering these when they arrive, right?
As for lube, just thick on the spring?

Zeal, how would you recommend you lube your switches? It'll be my first time lubing, but would much rather type on lubed switches.Lube bottom housing left/right slider guides, inside and out of spring, left/right/front/back of slider, little swirl on the pole. Lubing the tactile leg is optional. Try for yourself and see what feel you like best.
Is the button on the bottom of the RGB board accessible without taking the keyboard apart when using those standard 60% cases? hard to tell from photos

Tactile leg = the legs on the front of the slider? If yes, you mention that you recommend lubing the front of the slider, do you then mean that you should just lube the front and not the legs?
Edit: I assume you mention that the tactile leg is optional to lube since some would want to keep it unlubed to not decrease the tactility, I'm interested, do you lube it?
hey Zeal,
Thanks for doing a R4, I bought 100 caps and both sets of gold stabs. Just 2 questions, sorry if they have been asked before: Will both the switches and stabs ship together, or will they arrive individually? Also, are we still on track for Gateron shipping tomorrow?
Thanks :)
Aperture_Sci
I know gateron is suppose to ship the switches out today, but I see you can still buy 67g switches, is this still possible?
Little update:
Zealios were a bit delayed in shipping and will be going out tomorrow local time (Nov 16, evening PST time). I expect to receive them on Friday.
Stabilizers and Zealencio clips are complete ahead of schedule and will be shipped right after the Zealios. I expect to receive that shipment Monday.
Zeal60 expected shipping time is Nov 30th. Thanksgivings week in the US got in the way, so it pushed the shipping estimate a few days back.
That's it for now, thanks for the patience guys.

Wooo glad to hear Zeal.
If I was to add non GB items (i.e. LEDs, SIPs, Lube) to my order when would you recommend having that done by?
Are there any places that stock the springs used in the 67g switches? I'm modding Cherry MX RGB Blue switches w/ Aristotle stems and think the spring weight of my 67g Zealios/Zealiostotles is my ideal weight. I tried using the 68g SPRiT springs on mechanicalkeyboards.com but the force curve is a little bit different and I like the 67g Zealios springs much better... but don't want to take apart all my Zealios just for the springs. :(

Unfortunately not...The springs in Zealios are only made and factory installed into Zealios.
Is it too late to buy Zealios from your website Zeal?

If you find yourself with a little extra time, could you post some photos of the switches when they come in? I think it would be awesome to see some early pictures, along with seeing THAT many switches all in one place!!
If not, no problem, I know you're extremely busy.

Ooh, so exciting! Mine are destined for a B.mini build. :thumb:
Actually I'm pondering whether or not to grab some 67g switches for my impending Minivan.. I really wanted some 62g for that, but they're long gone, and now 65g are sold out too. I suspect 67 will feel too heavy, as I'd really not like anything much heavier than my Pok3r with 65g ErgoClears. For some reason I feel too that heavy springs on a tiny board would be weird, and not ideal for something that I'd like to be light and quiet for typing on during conferences, in hotel rooms, etc...... :-\

78g?! But.. but I have delicate lady fingers! I don't wanna have to use two fingers to depress each key, hahaha!
Zeal, I'm assuming you are busy with all of the sorting, but did you get the stabs?! Can we see them?
Super jealous everyone is receiving their stuff and I'm over here with an unbuilt RS96 kit like
Hope those stabs come in soon :) No worries - I know the products are going to be awesome Zeal!
How do I find out if my package was shipped yet or not?
Since I ended up adding onto my order, I have three order numbers. (#5087 First order number, #5352, #5416) will these orders be combined and shipped together with one tracking number?
When can I expect orders in the 56xx range to be processed/ship out?
Status update:
Just contacted Gateron asking for a status update on the second shipment. Apparently everything is ready and boxed, but no one knows how to fill the DHL waybill and prepare the commercial invoice properly other than my rep, and he went out on an unexpected business trip...He promises to have that shipment out on Monday (local time, expecting to receive shipment Tuesday North American time), and is really sorry for the delay.
This might push fulfillment of some orders back a few days as we're running low on 67g and 78g Zealios (majority of them are in the second shipment). Will keep everyone updated as I receive them.

Got the zealencios installed and so far pretty good. Base switches on my TX1800 are 62g Gateron Blacks. Bottom-out feeling is very similar to bottoming out topres. Only drawback so far is that Cherry profile R2 - R4 keycaps randomly clip the Zealencio attachment based on where I press the keycap.

That sucks, this stuff seems to happen a lot with custom made things though. I think the majority of us have gotten used to a few setbacks and/or date changes and don't have any issues with it! It also helps that when our orders do ship we know for a fact that they are very well packaged, that the parts are all high quality, and that they will be in our hands the next day.
Is the second shipment just switches or is it everything (switches, stabs, and Zealencios)? Is there any way you can give a guesstimate (I don't need a firm date or anything like that, I am just curious) on when the 52xx orders might ship?

Have you made sure that both sides have clipped in firmly with two click sounds per clip (and using the included spudger to press them down)?
Based on my testing, the final production clips shouldn't have any rubbing issues with the tops. I've tested GMK and ePBT in various profiles.

Installed my Zealencios on sunday and loving them, definitely prefer them to o-rings. One thing I'll mention is that they wouldn't work with my MX Brocaps (Gamer set and reaper). Bro caps get stuck when pressed if zealencios installed. Not a big deal to me, just posting here in case anyone was curious.

That would require shipping out Wednesday...Sorry to bring you bad news but...
BTW, I just noticed that in the email I sent you in regard to orders 5201 and 5202, I wanted to get a refund for just the shipping, and still get the 2nd order of the sips. The little ziplock bag that had the sips also had written on it, "#5201, 260X SIPs, 2/2." I'm guessing you referred back to the emails and decided to refund the order altogether?
At the end of the day, I still had the make another order because of my mistake with the LED's, but I just thought I'd point out the miscommunication in regard to this whole ordeal.
No big deal. This was honestly one of the best GB's that I've attended, and I hope to purchase more things from you in the future
(P.S. I am the one who ordered 90 white LED's and the SIPs just now)
But I only got 130 instead of 260 SIPs?
I already ordered the 130 SIPs (Order 5843) along with the LED's. If you can use the cost for the SIPs for shipping and get it here sooner than usual (While refunding me the difference), I don't mind paying the full cost. Otherwise, if you are busy with the other orders (Which I totally understand), you can just send me the full refund for the cost of the SIPs. Let me know what works, thanks
D'you have any SA caps to try with the zealencios by chance?
Hey Zeal,
Any idea what Order # you've gotten to. No rush, just excited I can finally build my RS96 :D

I actually finished packing everything that could be shipped last night. All remaining orders are either waiting for 67g, 78g, stabilizers, Zeal60 or any combination of those.
Status update on shipment...it appears only a portion of my shipment arrived in LA early last night, with a few other boxes moving a few hours later. Unfortunately that means the shipment did not all arrive in USA last night and will delay the arrival by another day.Show Image(http://puu.sh/szIiO/42d34f2217.png)
I'm trying to my my 78g R4 zealios on my b.mini kit from winkeyless and I can't get them to sit flush with the face plate. It seems like the only way to have them sit perfect is by clipping the little pegs on the bottom on the left and right side. The plate/pcb supports pcb mount so I don't know why I'm having such a difficult time with this. I think I'm gonna have to clip all the bottoms to make it work :(
Edit: I didn't have to clip the little plastic pegs when I did my previous b.mini but it seems like the cherry pegs are slightly thinner than the zealios ones.

Give the legs a bit of a squeeze (2x, half rotates) with some needle nose pliers. Winkeyless PCBs have a very slightly smaller diameter to make Cherry PCB mount feel "tighter". It'll fit in easier after you squeeze the legs.
Are the R4 the ones with the darker stems
Hey everyone, I'm kicking myself for not ordering more switches than I would want for just one keyboard and was wondering if anyone here had any extra 78g R4 (I'm guessing Zeal does not have any more). If you are in the U.S. and have extras, feel free to PM me ;)AFAI understand, Zeal should have extra 78gs for sale at the retail price of $1 each once the GB has been taken care of. Forgive me if I have misspoke.

Are the PCBs on their way?!
Is there a force chart anywhere for the new R4 78g switches?
Thanks.
Is there a force chart anywhere for the new R4 78g switches?
Thanks.
Force charts have never been provided with Zealios. There are a few reasons behind that and I won't go into specifics, but Gateron has requested to keep them private. Just for your own reference, force charts published by Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, etc have always been "for reference only" and never accurately reflected the actual curves.
Will the be another round of Zealencios? And if so when do you think that might be?
Dem other packages come in? I've all but lost hope of being able to build my board this weekend. :'(
welp, my bad for not checking, but the zealencios wont fit with 4 pin rgb leds. should i even attempt to cut/shave/otherwise maul my way to maybe possibly making it fit?
also, any word in the wind about a zeal tkl pcb?

Along with R5 Zealios, GB will probably open around the later half of December.Dem other packages come in? I've all but lost hope of being able to build my board this weekend. :'(
Only a partial shipment came in... 5 of 13 boxes. The remaining 8 should come in tomorrow, along with Zeal60 PCBs.

Only 2 parcels made it out of LAX Airport to BC. It's been out for delivery since noon, not sure if they will deliver past business hours. So...if they don't arrive, then we can expect the 8 parcels for Monday.
The Zeal60 PCBs were shipped via UPS and ended up getting delayed in customs...Delivery for Monday.
*sigh peak season.
I also have a small update for everyone that ordered the transparent screw-in stabilizers. Not sure what happened from samples to final production, but the screws are a few fractions of a mm too wide to fit into the nuts. I've contacted Gateron yesterday about the issue and they'll be working on sending out replacement screws asap. Sorry for the delay everyone. :(

Hey Zeal,
Guessing this also affects the massdrop orders?
Sucks for everyone waiting for their switches, luckily for me I'm waiting for my board to come so the wait isn't that bad :thumb:

Hey Zeal, what is the situation of the transparent gold plated stabalizers? I saw them go live on MassDrop to be delivered by January, but if I were to order through your website, when can I expect to get them?
So, if we had combo orders with the stabs, the entire order will be held up until the screws arrive?

Yes, but replacement screws won't take long. Gateron will be sending out replacement screws next week, and I should be receiving them same week if all goes to plan.
Did all the good stuff come?!

40 of the PCBs in today, rest tomorrow (customs delay, go figure). Need to test/flash a stock poker layout on each one. Wilba is finalizing the firmware and app tester for that.
DHL ended up delivering the 2 boxes from Friday on Saturday. Remaining 6 are still at LAX and didn't move.
Still packing/shipping orders as we speak.
Any word on the stab screws?
Hi Zeal. My order number is 5013, it's been painful watching people far beyond that number having their orders shipped out. From what I gather in this thread mine is delayed because it consists entirely of 67g and 78g switches, which ran out rapidly and required a second shipment from Gateron. Can you give me any indication of when I could expect my switches to ship? Thanks Zeal.

Currently packing orders near your order range. You should receive shipping notification this week. Remaining Gateron shipment is scheduled to come in today so there won't be any shortages anymore.
-----------
For everyone else wondering, please just sit tight for a bit longer. I've been receiving multiple emails daily about order status and it really does slow me down when answering those emails. I always fulfill the earliest order possible so please don't think I forgot about your order. The whole situation has just been a bit awkward due to the shipments coming in so far apart, which resulted in me fulfilling orders ahead of others due to them being temporarily skipped.
So I've been using the Zealencios about a week noe, and I have problems using them with GMK caps. It seems like the amount of force and/or the direction needed to get the switches to actuate has changed, so now when I press a keyboard combination, half the time I end up just typing the letter in the combo instead. Like instead of copying a piece of code, I end up replacing it with the letter "c".
Anybody seeing the same?
BTW, I can confirm these should work fine with SA, at least R3 - and since R3 is the lowest one, that should mean it's fine for all profiles.Do they dampen the down stroke on SA?
Zeal, is it realistic that the orders will all go out before Christmas?
I just ask because I ordered some parts with the intention of putting together a board for a family member and I can see there are people who are hundreds or orders ahead of me still to be fulfilled
Awesome thanks ZealZeal, is it realistic that the orders will all go out before Christmas?

Goal is definitely to have everything out before Christmas.
Of course, why wouldn't it?BTW, I can confirm these should work fine with SA, at least R3 - and since R3 is the lowest one, that should mean it's fine for all profiles.Do they dampen the down stroke on SA?
Because the rubber at the top of the zealencio has nothing bumping against it as the stem on the cap is quite tall? Just try to press switches with and without these in place, and if they depress to the same depth, then nothing is in contact with the top of the zealencio. The upstroke is of course dampened, as that is due to the contact with the stem of the switch and does not rely on a cap being there.Of course, why wouldn't it?BTW, I can confirm these should work fine with SA, at least R3 - and since R3 is the lowest one, that should mean it's fine for all profiles.Do they dampen the down stroke on SA?
I went over a few mods I've had special problems with, and found that the zealencios weren't quite tight and followed the caps up a bit on the upstroke. That was at the end of the workday, so I don't know if it helped much, but my gut says this might have been the problem. I could definitely feel a difference before and after re-tightening. Also, I noticed a "click" when reseating them that I didn't know I should have been listening for - I usually wear headphones...
You should consider an instructional video :)
So, up against a bit of a time constraints because I leave for winter break on 12/16. Is it looking like I should swap shilling addresses due to stab screws?

You should always change your shilling address, or else the haters will come for you.
How much is there still left to ship? I'm early 56XX with 67s, 78s, lube, stabs and zealencios :D
55** here, I only ordered 78g switches and some lube. any ETA?

Should be in the batch waiting to be printed.
Quick update:
Replacement screws have shipped! Should receive them Monday, or Tuesday latest.
Ended up facing another small minor issue...Somehow my site oversold a few hundred Zealios for 62g (and possibly other weights which I cannot confirm yet). It may have been a mistake on the packing end, not receiving enough switches, or minor glitch while managing order quantity/weight changes/etc. It shouldn't affect the majority of customers, just a very small minority of last minute orders. I usually keep a 100-200x switch buffer to prevent these kind of scenarios from happening, but the bulk of the switches sold faster than anticipated.
I'll be arranging a small "R4.5" order with Gateron to fix this. May open up orders later, once confirming a few details with Gateron & other parties. This will not interfere with fulfilling the remaining orders.

If this is suggesting another opportunity for people to buy more switches... I'd certainly be interested in getting more as some great boards have dropped recently that I wasn't expecting. :p
Have you received the Lustro/Weaven NA orders by any chance?

Please reply to your order confirmation email and provide me with your updated address. Sorry about the delay. :(
I've got a question; one that I ask for you to use your imagination.
If you added Zealencio silencing adapters AND O-rings to help reduce travel which of the switch weights would be most similar to scissor switches? This means which spring is going to give you the most brief but strong tactile bite as high as possible in the travel? The Zealencio will trim a little distance up top with the O-Ring handling a lot on the bottom. The important part I think is that the tactility needs to be high enough because a thick O-ring will probably interfere if it's too low.
Please answer that one first. After that do you think Jailhouse Aristotle Zealios might be a better mouse trap for this mission?

But you checked out with DHL shipping. :))

Update on screws. I had two packages that was supposed to come in via DHL, and only one of them came. Unfortunately they weren't the screws. I sent an email asking my account manager if he could push a second delivery run out in the afternoon, so we'll have to see...
Unfortunately that means they'll come in tomorrow if not this afternoon. :( Sorry about the delay folks, holiday season has all couriers/post overworked.
Did you receive all of the PCBs? Last I remember, you only had 40 of them.

Are those stabs wires made from 18k gold or 24k gold?
thanks
Just a quick one Zeal.
I have had my order shipped through Canada Post, any idea how long it will take to reach Australia?
The Canada Post site essentially states two options, 6-10 days or 2-3 Months.
Just wondering if I should curb my enthusiasm or get hyped?

I don't think these will work for the new style of case that the v2 is using. I think you might be able to use these with the v1

Correct, the USB port does not line up (not even close, since the viper/eagle is using a centered USB). It also won't work with v1, since that one used a PCB with cutouts for the blockers since it was made like the standard drop-in 60%'s. Maybe it is possible to figure something out with the USB port for the v2 (breakout board or fixed cable maybe?) but it smells like a PITA.

Seems to have just been misunderstood (understandable) that I was only talking about the screws, I didn't order a PCB. I'm not sure if the first person was saying the screws wouldn't work or if was referring to PCB, which yes USB would provide an obstacle.
I got my order in yesterday (some 78g goodness). Thanks! I can tell I like them better than 65 already.
Any instruction on how to use that sharp tool for the silencing clips?
I was under the impression that these screws would only work on tray style cases, like the poker.
I assume that the screws in the v2 case will be longer, since there will be a top and bottom case that the screws will have to keep together
Can you explain if I got the jumper pads correct?

Still waiting on PCB stabs and zealios :(:( looks like Christmas gonna be late this year
Hey guys, small update:
PCB orders are actually being held for *a tiny bit* longer. Sorry, but current ETA will either be late this week or after Christmas, into January. Had a discussion with PCB designer and we have agreed to upgrade a few capacitors to another variant. Won't go into specifics, but it needed to be done. Future Zeal60 revisions will incorporate the new capacitors.
Orders with stabilizers: We thought it would be best to screw-in the screws into the stabilizer ahead of time, making it simpler to pack. Unfortunately as we went through 2 large freezer ziplock bags worth, and at the bottom of the bag there were 34 screws that came undone (of ~3000+ screws we had inserted). What we're doing to mitigate this issue: screw in the screws fully into the housing instead of half way in. Roughly 50 boxes that have already been packed today may be affected by this issue. To solve the issue, we're giving 4x extra screws for each box that was packed over the weekend and that'll receive a shipping notification today. It'll either be taped on the exterior side of the box (only a few DHL boxes printed before this post), or we have cut a slit into the tape to fit the screws in within a small zip bag.
A few orders went out last week may also be affected. If you are missing a screw, send me an email with a pic and your order # and I'll have a few screws sent out via bubble mailer. Sorry about the inconvenience. It shouldn't affect more than 34 customers. :(
Other than that, we are still working hard to pack everyone's order out. Baggies have been packed up to 52xx, but due to the way we bulk pack, sometimes a few order numbers a bit higher do go out a bit earlier. Shouldn't delay much more than 1 day as we try to move orders in the +-200 range a day. Hope that makes sense.

Baggies have been packed up to 52xx, but due to the way we bulk pack, sometimes a few order numbers a bit higher do go out a bit earlier. Shouldn't delay much more than 1 day as we try to move orders in the +-200 range a day. Hope that makes sense.

As for the PCB -- so will you (or have you done already) install those new capacitors on the existing boards as well? I am bit of confused because you mentioned rev.2 using the new capacitors right away but you also mentioned that the current ones needed upgrading. So I suppose you do upgrade them before shipping them out?
Hey chaps,
Have installed Zealencio silencing clips on a Whitefox with Costar plate mount stabs. The stab wire was rubbing tightly against the clip, preventing the key from pressing/returning properly.
The fix is easy, cut away the lip on the wire side of the clip to give it room to move.
Anyone else found this with costar stabs?

The original plan was to have everyone's order out before Massdrop's, but unfortunately due to the screw delay, it messed up the timing. Plenty of stabilizer orders actually went out before Massdrop's box was shipped. Not everyone posting in here is representative of the hundreds of boxes that went out already with the screw-in stabs.
I've actually shipped up to a portion of 51xx. Any outstanding order either has a Zeal60 holding it back or 62g Zealios (which I happened to have found the missing box of switches hidden under a pile of foam). Currently shipping/packing the remaining orders with 62g as we speak. If you think your order was accidentally missed, please send me a PM/email (preferred).Got my stabs massdrop shipping notification. Hyped. :)

You had another combined order at 51xx, so that's why it got sent out. It wasn't considered a 57xx order in the queue.

All Zeal60s are undergoing a few capacitor swaps. Gonna spend the Christmas weekend getting through those. Earliest a PCB will start shipping would be next week, and continue into early January.
Hey Zeal, thanks for the super awesome communication. Any idea when Order #55XX is going out? I had 100 67g and 2x stab's. I know you said by Christmas but wondering if the new screw holdup is delaying anything.
Thanks!
Oh, Roger that. Sounds good. Can't wait for it. So excited to build it :) hope it comes earl January or I might have to change shipping addressStatus on the rest of the Zeal60s? Guess that's what holding up my order

Hi Zeal, I just got my shipping notification for 100 silencing clips, but I 'upgraded' my order to 120. Is this just an automated message based off the original order?
Cheers
Thought so, thank you!
I ended up with a couple of different order numbers according to these shipping emails (I got 3 in total) - but I'm guessing it will still be just the one shipment?
Received my package today, super happy with everything. Especially the green tea kit kats :p
I just realized some orders that were shipped during Dec 21-24 time frame didn't have the "send customer email when shipped" box checked...-facepalm- Not sure what happened as that box is usually auto checked. If you didn't get a shipping notification email and have an account on my site, your order should show as fulfilled. Orders via DHL all get a text/email, so it mostly only affects CanPost orders.
Pretty much all GB orders have been packed and shipped. Less than 5 regular GB orders waiting on a small item(getting more SIPs in)/waiting to be combined with Lustro/weaven. Will get those orders out whenever everything arrives.
PCB orders will start going out Tuesday? (iirc DHL here takes an extra day off after Christmas). Will be spending the Christmas weekend swapping out caps and packing/shipping PCB orders.
If anyone has any questions about anything, please feel free to send me an email. Thanks.

I know you're disappointed with all the delays and want to push to get everything out as soon as possible, but I sincerely hope you take some time to yourself to enjoy the holidays bud. Whether it's with family, friends, or just a good meal and a book, find some time to relax =)

Due to the holidays DHL actually gave me next day shipping on a Saturday!! Zeal must be magic ;D Everything looks awesome and tomorrow starts some building! Any updates on Lustro/Weaven stuck in Vietnam situation?
Hey Zeal! Just wondering what the status is on the gold SIP sockets? I think my entire order of 67g/78g zealios, screw-in stabs, lube, zealiencio clips, are just waiting on those SIP sockets.
Hope you had a great Christmas!

Should arrive before the end of the week.
Got my stabs, switches and silencing caps. The stabs are a great upgrade over the Chinese fakes I had before. Removing those and installing the Zealio stabs with the plate in place was a huge pain in the ass but I succeeded! The 67g switches also seem more stable and nicer than the R3 65g I currently use.
Unfortunately I was not that happy with the silencing clips. I am experiencing some missed keys or duplicated inputs and they seem to get caught a bit on my JTK keycaps.
My question is, what is the correct way to remove the silencing clips? They seem to be stuck in really hard. :(
Will you be improving the Zealstabs later down the road? Mine have quite a bit of wobble coming from the tab at which the wire pops in being too loose. They are insanely smooth though.

Are you talking about the anchor/pivot point where the wire sits in the stab housing? There should only be a tiny bit of free movement, which is the same as found as authentic Cherry PCB mount housings. It's needed to glide smoothly with the stabilized keys. Wire diameter is already 1.6mm, which is the same as proper Cherry wires. I haven't found or heard of any issues the the current stabilizer design.

Yes, exactly that point. When I look into the gap between my spacebar and case and press on the sides I can see the wire moving around a bit, which doesn't really happen on my Cherry stabs, which are a pretty tight fit. Maybe mine are just weird? I dunno. It is also amplified when the wire is routed south of the switch.
The wire isn't moving left/right but up/down (on a 2d top view, so the wire is moving north/south in the housing). Will you be improving the Zealstabs later down the road? Mine have quite a bit of wobble coming from the tab at which the wire pops in being too loose. They are insanely smooth though.

Well, the wire doesn't really move left/right unless you poke it. :)) Maybe it's the smoothness giving it a slippery feel?
Spacebar stabs go up and down with the keycap, so I don't see it being an issue. BTW, which PCB has the spacebar wire that's South facing? Nearly all custom PCBs have it North. Do the plastic ends of the stabs have anything to push against?
Wire shouldn't be significantly moving up/down freely when anchored in the housing, so please provide a video if possible. It would be a lot more clear so I/we can find a solution to your issue. Is this only affecting the spacebar, or all stabs? Cause 1mm of movement sounds like the wire wouldn't snap in in place anymore, which isn't normal.
Got em!Nice! I was hoping mine would come in before the new year but no luck.

Unless JTK have a fatter stem than GMK/Cherry caps, it shouldn't cause any interference. Both sides have to click in to be properly mounted.
To remove the clips, use a small precision flat head and gently pry on one end then the other. It should pop off quite easily.

Even though both sides clicked I had issues. I have to press much harder for keys to register and sometimes they get slightly stuck and cause double inputs. Got some removed but the clips are stuck on R3 Zealios pretty hard so often the top of the switch tries to come off.

Are your LEDs facing "up" (away from user) by any chance? Cherry style switches mounted in reverse already barely have enough clearance for Cherry profile caps. Adding a clip makes it a bit too fat for reverse mount though, which would explain them being harder to register on certain rows. This issue with OEM caps, but the clips are best used with Cherry profile caps with "downwards" facing LEDs.
The clips are only held down by small retention clips on two sides.. Prying off one end should release the other quite easily. There shouldn't be any upwards force required and it shouldn't feel like the switch top is going to pop out. .
Seems like I misinterpreted the direction in which the wires are loose from looking at it in the weird angle. In the video I tried my best to show the wobble. Since I didn't fancy disassembing my board for this I simply used the TXPad PCB to show the wire wobble and showed the keywobble on the assembled TX87.
That wire needs to clip into the stabilizer housing rather than just sit on top of the clips like in the video.
The little insert which the end of the wire goes into has a side with 1 hole and another with 2.
The side with 2 holes should face the opening on the stabilize body and the wire goes into the bottom of the 2 holes.

I know how to assemble stabs mate... they are clipped in and the inserts are not rotated
So I know I've read an answer to this somewhere before but I can't find it... is it recommended to lube the switches and stabilizers? Or do they pretty much feel the same whether you do or not?

Yeah, you're right - I didn't look at the vid closely enough.
They're wobbling around so much I mistook them as not being clipped in at all.
Some PTFE grease would at least quieten the rattle.
Maybe I'm nitpicking too much, but I definitely have a lot less (as in basically non existant) wobble on the stabs I got from SPRiT back in the day, also considerably less on original Cherry stabs (with standard wires) which I bought a few weeks ago from LeanreN. Though yours are definitely smoother. Maybe the thing will look a lot better on boards where the wires are south facing.
Another problem I've encountered (which is a lot more annoying) is when I remove tight fitting keycaps (like EnjoyPBT) from the 2u stabs the wire pops out pretty often (in like 4 out of 5 cases). Again, quite nitpicky, but we are talking about pretty expensive stabs here.
To not only point out flaws I've gotta say that the wobble on R4 Zealios is really nicely improved now and much less than in R2 and R3 (probably also better than R1, but I've got none to compare them to). Together with the Zealencios the tactile point feels a lot higher and they give out a really nice thock, I really like the combo of Zealios and Zealencios :thumb:.
Just built my VE.A keyboard with all the Zeal parts I received.

So just to double check what the recommendations are for lubing Zealiostotles (I know I posted this somewhere but I can't remember where), nathanrosspowell has advised to lube the bottom of the channels and both ends of the spring, but is anyone doing any different?
Also, thick or thin?
Got my stabs and Zealencios during the Christmas holiday. Thank you very much Zeal! :)
I had some time to test fit the stabs on a new board I've received and they feel really good. Although the switches were not soldered I got a good feel of how the stabs are. They sure feel great! Really like not having to do the clipping mod. I did not experience any annoyance regarding the wobble with the Zeal stabs. Mine felt pretty sturdy (and I've been a bit picky when it comes to the Zealios wobble).
I was also very exited to finally test the Zealencios which I started installing on my favorite board (Octagon V2). I do however have to admit that installing them was a big pain. I hade to apply a lot of force before hearing the "click" sound. As a matter of fact I stopped after installing 4 of them. Partly because the supplied tool was starting to look really jacked only after installing so few Zealencios and also for the fear of not being able to remove them without damaging the switches or scratching the plate. I am using R3 Zealios on that particular board and I do not know if this has something to do with this. The new board has support for switch top removal so maybe it will be easier to install the Zealencios on it with combination of R4 Zealios that I ordered a couple of days ago.
I have another question though. It might be a bit odd so please bare with me :) After test fitting the stabs and noticing that the upcoming SIP sockets on zealpc.net will be gold plated, I realized that I do not like the gold finish. I know I know... Really silly of me because no one will ever see if the stab wires and/or SIP sockets are gold plated. BUT as many other GH members I am a perfectionist and I am convinced that a lot of us have a bit of OCD going on when it comes to keyboard builds. Just the fact of me knowing that there are gold plated finishes (which I am not fond of) will drive me absolutely crazy. Having said that I would like to know why you are going for products with gold plated finishes? Is it just for "good looks" or does it provide some superior function I haven't thought of? If the reason is mostly because of the bling what do I have to do to get it with a silver finish? (With my taste it would look so much nicer if it was all silver)?
I might as well add that it does not bother me that the springs are gold plated. I can understand the reason behind having gold springs instead of normal SS springs.
Lots of pizzas were sent via DHL.

The Zealencios need to be a tight snap fit or you'll end up with a loose plastic cover sitting on top of a switch. It's pretty normal for the flat head part of the spudger to start getting a bit indented, you could use a small disposable chopstick if it makes you feel better. :) As for removing the clips, a small precision flat head bit from any magnetic set should do the trick. Gently wedge a side and it should come loose enough to pop off the other end. Alternatively, as you have mentioned, you could install the clips ahead of time before soldering in switches.
The gold plated finish on stab wires actually makes the wire smoother vs Cherry's typical raw steel piano wire or whatever material they use. As for the SIPs, it's just something new I decided to stock. Finally ran out of the regular silver ones, so I decided why not /blingfactor. I wouldn't recommend stripping off the gold plating with any sort of acid etc as it would damage the overall smoothness/finish of the product.
Just got my package in! Everything was well wrapped and can't wait to build once my 27TKL comes in haha.
The Zeal60 seems a little overwhelming for me, may consider just selling it :-X

Zeal or all,
Is it possible to get to get the split backspace and right shift + fn all lit up? Doesn't seem like my LB5 lights up or LD8 when R-Shift is soldered (JD7A)
I'll keep poking around on it but if you know anything, that would be awesome :)
Thanks

Have you flashed the board to the proper HHKB.bat layout? The firmware will disable certain LEDs depending on which layout you've chosen. The default rainbow cycling mode you received lights up the "FN" key and HHKB`~ key prior to jumping, so those were confirmed fully functional.

I have not. I was about to do that :) I'll update in soon.
Edit: Never used flip on any of my programmable boards before so I'm just sifting through the dark with my eyes closed :p
Edit2: Got it up an running. Thanks for that little tip. After looking at that stuff and the commands for split backspace etc it became self explanatory :) thanks again all for the help.
Bonus pics :) Zeal60 PCB, R4 78g Zealios (which feel stronger than R2 + 80g springs), WKL B.face case -- Side note for anyone going this route: you will have to shave the case down to fit the transparent stabilizers through the pcb mount slots so that the two acrylic pieces will sit flush on the pcb.

Decided to go ahead and spend too much time working on the ol' keyboard with 67g Zealios, Zeal stabs, and V4 lube. Essentially no wobble, the lube was well worth the time to apply, and the stabs are amazing. Couldn't be happier with this round of supplies.

I meant for Flip. I can't get FLIP to recognize the keyboard. I was following your readme until you said "Chances are, this isn't the first time you've flashed a board, so you should have the proper drivers installed for the ATmega32u4". This is my first time. I haven't programmed a microcontroller since school, and it was a lot different than this.
So. My order arrived safely in germany and I have some good and some bad "news".
First the good ones. Flashing the default hex file worked flawlessly under linux with tkg-toolkit. My OEM PBT caps in combination with the Zealencios and the 67g Zealios feel awesome. Seriously... awesome. I think I can feel less wobble, but that never bothered my anyway. The R2 78g now feel... "less"
But... :-XShow Image(http://imgur.com/hDYKvrJ.jpg)
That little bit of PCB where the USB socket is attached, sticks out 2 or 3 mm. Sadly. So that part of the PCB sits flush with my aliexpress aluminium CNC case, but should be 1-2mm further up.
Which results in:Show Image(http://imgur.com/R8jeXCW.jpg)
Keep in mind: it's the PCB, not the socket that prevents "proper" positioning.
So I can only use the screws on that side of the PCB with a clear conscience and/or without fearing of damaging stuff.
Apart from that: as the last times: switches, shipping, stabs. Everything was exceptional. :thumb: :thumb:
So I either have to dremel a bit of PCB off or use heavy artillery and remove some aluminium from my case.
@Zeal any ideas?
I was going to write a full review, however I'm not the best at such things so here's what I came up with:
I'll start this out by saying that I've never done a review before so don't expect some eloquent review with tons of pictures and super detailed breakdowns, however after using the Zealencio Silencing Clips for a few weeks now, in conjunction with 78g Zealio Switches I am absolutely in love, and this is by far the best typing experience I've ever had. I've always been self-conscience of my loud keyboards, started about 8 or so years ago with the Razer BlackWidow, I loved the way it felt and sounded however whenever I was on comms I felt bad for those with me as they could hear it even more than I could since my headphones canceled out most of the sound, I then switched to using Browns, which I was not a fan of at all, then reds, and missed the tactile feel and the sound was still audible as I'm a heavy typer, about 4 different switch types later I joined the first Zealio group by and fell in love with the feel of them, however unfortunately went back to feeling bad when typing at work or on comms, I tried all the different o-rings I could find, the different materials, sizes, everything, nothing seemed to really lower the click sound without completely ruining the feel, so when I saw Zeal had made a silencing system completely different than what I had seen before I had to buy them, and boy did it pay off.
My keyboard is now quieter than anyone at work, even people using the crappy scissor switch dell keyboards they give to us, I've been getting loads of comments in discord, but instead of complaints it's been compliments that they no longer hear every keystroke, and honestly, the very little that it effected the feel of my typing has actually been an improvement, I don't think I'll ever be able to type on a mech without them again. Thank you Zeal for this, I honestly never really understood people who critiqued every aspect and weight of their switches as I never felt a huge difference or cared too much (as long as it was tactile I was happy) but after using this for a few weeks I've been converted, I finally understand what it feels like to find the perfect combo for you.
Sorry for the wall of text and I'm sure many grammatical errors and crap post but I was so happy with this purchase I had to show my gratitude somehow, not to mention that Zeal is in my opinion one of if not the best GB Organizers, on every front, be it communication, speed, or flexibility I've been blown away at every step of the process.

Zeal, I'm not able to flash the default hex. When I plugin my keyboard it's recognized as a keyboard, not ATmega32U4 so I can't use FLIP to flash. I can type on it like a normal keyboard, although all the LEDs are flashing like crazy. Running the keymap bat does not work either. How am I supposed to get this thing in bootloader mode so I can one, install the ATMEGA32U4 driver, and two, flash it? Space + Esc doesn't work.
Sorry, oversight in the instructions. Now updated to include:
Press on the golden button between "A" and "S" to set your PCB to bootloader mode. Alternatively, if your keyboard is built up, holding down Space+B while plugging in the USB cable will also set it to bootloader mode. You can now proceed to flashing the PCB via FLIP.

Could you link the case you purchasd on aliexpress? Is it the one with the cutout for a weight in the back? That's the only reported case I've received from a customer that doesn't have a large enough USB hole clearance (either due to cut out, or standoffs too tall).

Zeal60 PCB designer here... Can you take a photo from the back, looking at the USB socket, so I can see how the USB socket is positioned relative to the cutout?
I'd like to know if the issue is due to the cutout size being too small (compared to something like a TEX case, which has clearance for the PCB).
Sure

No need to apologize. I expect it to be rather impossible to satisfy anything and everyone. I am deeply impressed so far. And that you used QMK (instead of tmk) is the added bonus for me! (I did AMJ60 and Satan GH60 iso_split_rshift).Sure
2. @Wilba: here:Show Image(http://imgur.com/tz1U5jv.jpg)
The cutout is about the same height as on my TEX case, but definitely a lot less width.
If I had to fix this (and I might, because I have some AliExpress cases on the way!) I would Dremel a tiny bit off the PCB (see pic) and then add extra solder to the mount pins on the top side (i.e. making a nice "solder joint" fillet between the outside of the USB socket pin and the pad).
(Attachment Link)
I chose this particular USB socket because it had through-hole mount pins, so they're a lot more secure than ones with SMD pads, and they tested compatible with my TEX 60% case (including all the ribs!) and Zeal's Duck Eagle, and AFAIK were going to fit any USB cutout that was compatible with Poker2. So I'm sorry you're having this issue.

And now for something completely different: You plan your fork to being merged upstream in the future?
I had the same issue with my knockoff TEX case. You can force the PCB to fit but it'll be slightly off center from left to right. Using a real TEX case for now.Sure

On another note, is there a way to program the LEDs to turn off when you shut down your computer? Mine currently stay on and I have to unplug the keyboard and plug it back in for them to stay off. My FaceW/b.face boards power off the LEDs when you shutdown the PC for comparison.
FWIW if any Zeal60 users are reading this, feel free to give me feedback and suggestions ;D

I will add this feature to the next release. I actually made it stay on during sleep/shutdown and continue it's effect (if it was color cycling etc.) but recently thought not everyone will want that. I was thinking of adding a brightness setting while "suspended" that you can set to 0 if you want them off.
[...]Damn, I forgot:
Of course, no public shilling would be complete without a picture.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Awna9T5.jpg)
When you say suspended do you mean sleep? I don't know if it's a limitation of the controller but can the LEDs timeout after a period of no activity?
Just want to say thanks to Zeal and Wilba for adding that LT function from QMK. I asked Zeal about it and within a few hours he told me a new firmware was up that enabled it. That's freaking awesome =)
It's one of my favorite features for 60% boards, adds such a great level of functionality.
LT() is the best!Just want to say thanks to Zeal and Wilba for adding that LT function from QMK. I asked Zeal about it and within a few hours he told me a new firmware was up that enabled it. That's freaking awesome =)
It's one of my favorite features for 60% boards, adds such a great level of functionality.
No problem. It was already supported in the firmware (it is QMK), just not in the keymap uploading tool. Send me your layout file, I'm curious to see it! ;D
LT(layer, kc) - momentary switch to layer when held, and kc when tapped.
Like MO(), this only works upwards in the layer stack (layer must be higher than the current layer).
I use that for the Yes, I mean all cases where the USB device is "suspended", like the PC in Sleep, Hibernate and in some cases Shutdown.Okay, sweet. Thanks again!
For example, even when my PC is in full shutdown mode, I can still wake it by pressing a key on the keyboard, because the USB device is in a "suspended" state. It's up to the device what it does in this state, but all it can really do is "wake" the host.
I've already done the basics for just turning off the LEDs when suspended, that can go in the next release, rather than do anything fancier like a different backlight effect/brightness etc. when suspended.
As for turning off the backlight after a timeout period of inactivity, that's possible too, but I can only track keyboard activity, not general PC usage, i.e. user didn't type in 15 minutes, turn off backlight. I can definitely do something like that, whether it's useful or not to users is another story ;D
Regarding timeout, that's exactly what I was thinking about. I regularly leave my PC on so I can VPN in while I'm away. Currently, I manually turn off the LEDs when I leave for the day. One of my older Varmilo boards would timeout though after 10 or so min of inactivity and I really liked that.
No need to apologize. I expect it to be rather impossible to satisfy anything and everyone. I am deeply impressed so far. And that you used QMK (instead of tmk) is the added bonus for me! (I did AMJ60 and Satan GH60 iso_split_rshift).
What is "iso_split_rshift"? Is that the name for 1U+1.75U instead of 1.75U+1U (HHKB-like Shift+Fn)?And now for something completely different: You plan your fork to being merged upstream in the future?
Well the plan is for that to happen eventually... it's never going to be a completely separate fork like QMK was to TMK... it's just my working "branch". It's more convenient during this stage of development to keep things under my control, instantly publish latest source, and not have to bother with pull requests to the master every time I want to publish, and handle pull requests to Zeal60 specific changes to me vs. through the master.
For most people it won't make much difference, since a) I'll keep my fork up to date with QMK master and b) the goal is to have a GUI for changing keymaps and backlight configuration so most end users will never need to build QMK themselves.
FWIW if any Zeal60 users are reading this, feel free to give me feedback and suggestions ;D
Modified, managed to solve most my issues, just have a lazy LED on alpha's "c, v, b and spacebar" Also the left space bar stab isn't on?, is this a solder issue? I vaguely recall seeing something somewhere
Hey Zeal-- first of all, thank you for an awesome product in Zealios and thank you for being attentive and open to your customers; I've been following this thread for several weeks. I got my switches a couple weeks ago and promptly assembled my OLKB Atomic 😁Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/SOaqpj0.jpg)Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/dCgWLn4.jpg)
Question for you! I've got 2 other orders for stabs, LEDs, and SIPs. When my switches shipped out I got automated notifications that all 3 of my orders had been shipped but only the switches were in the box that arrived. Are you still working on sending out stabs and SIPs? The orders that I haven't received are 5406 and 5605.

Left spacebar stab has two LEDs. You need to solder a jumper there (JC6 or JC6A) to choose which one you want (6.25U or 7U spacebar). That will most likely fix the other issue with C, V, B and spacebar LEDs.

The zeal60 tool used in the batch files that change layouts and settings is built for Windows, not Linux.
That's different to programming (burning/flashing) firmware like the zeal60_default.hex into the microcontroller on the PCB, which can be done with Flip on Windows and dfu-programmer on Linux.

Hi Wilba,
Is there anyway you can add a toggle to change the Caps Lock LED red(or configurable) when caps lock is enabled? I think that would be super helpful.
Thanks!

We definitely need something here. Maybe make the capslock the opposite color of what it was assigned? So if supposed to be FF0000 it was 00FFFF? That would be kinda cool.

Doing one-off patches to do what you want is easy.
Coming up with a flexible way to let anyone do what they want (via the PC app) is hard.
I'm going to define something like an "indicator LED"... it will have location (in switch matrix), the effect (a color or color effect), and the state it's tracking (Caps Lock, Fn1 layer, etc.)

Oh man, can't wait to experiment with this. I love the idea of being to light up specific keys that are part of a function layer for example. And the toggle on caps lock is super nice as well :D

I know it's late to post this but I got all of my R4 loot. Came in a really solid box and arrived safely. Awesome work as always :thumb: ;D
But I need help about lubing switches.
1.) What are the main contact points for lubing both tactile and clicky switches(aristotle stems in this case) without reducing tactility?
2.) I also have Gateron Linear Clears switches w/60g springs which I also plan to lube, is it bad to use the GH V4 Thick lube on these? are the thick lubes only meant for tactile/clicky switches?
3.) My goal for lubing switches is to achieve that buttery smooth feel without losing/reducing tactility and no ping noise from the spring. Really hate those pinging sounds.
Any help and replies would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for all the questions but this is my first custom keyboard build and I don't want to mess this up.
Thanks ;D :D

Sorry about late reply, been busy packing away orders.
1) For tactile switches, I recommend lubing pretty much every surface of the stem, except for the tactile legs. Front rectangle above the legs, side rails, back, quick swirl on the pole. Don't forget to lube the switch bottom guiding rails & spring inside and out lightly. There's really no proper guide, as everyone has different tastes when it comes to lubing. You really have to experiment with a few switches to see what you like personally. As for Clicky switches (Zealiostotles), no lube is required. Getting lube in the wrong places will kill / dampen the click.
2) V4 Thick lube might be a bit too thick for linears. You can try experimenting a very thin layer on the stem (same guide as tactiles, but lube the linear legs). See how you like it, and if it feels sluggish or not.
3) If you perform your lube job properly, you'll get a buttery smooth feel and dampened switches.

Used thick lube on Gateron blacks, and couldn't feel any sluggishness, I actually preferred it over thin lube, as it silenced the switch a lot more than I thought it would, and provided me with a fantastic switch!
Hey Zeal,
Got my switches and stabs and love them - sorry if you've been asked this 1000x aleady, but when will a R2 for the PCB happen?
Late Jan/early Feb.
Has anyone used a clear or frosted acrylic plate with a Zeal60 PCB? Trying to decide whether that would be awesome with the LEDs or too much, without enough differentiation between individual switch LEDs.

Can't wait to get my hands on a zeal 60.
Will the pcb be available in colors besides purple tho Zeal?
While I like purple on the switches since it makes the stems pop, I'm really not a fan of the purple pcb.
Purple pcb can also clash with the color of some cases, and while you don't usually see the pcb my OCD would still go crazy about that.
A second color option like white or black would be awesome.
White pcb with purple prints would actually match the zealio aesthetic perfectly imo =)

I haven't personally tested it, but I can imagine the whole plate will be diffused if you go with a frosted plate. Just make sure your acrylic has the appropriate clearance for screw in stabilizers if you decide to pick a set up.Hey Zeal,

Hey Zeal,
I just finished my build with the R4 Zeal 67g switches and they are amazing. I also bought a ZZ96 recently and want to use your 65g switches in it. On your site, I see it says R4.5 is GB/ Pre Order.
Is this updated? Are they in stock or is this another group buy? I need about 100 of them.

Is there a particular brand of thin lube that you would recommend on zealios?
Is there any 78g for sale? I've visited zealpc.net but it's already sold out.
When will be the next batch? Thanks

The firmware is stable, no immediate need for changes. The future development will be making a GUI-based app to configure keymaps and LED colors.

@dakisback Next release of the firmware will have a "Caps Lock" indicator setting (switch location, color). It will override whatever backlight mode is active.
Hey Zeal,
I put an order in last week Monday and never got a shipping notification - was for 100 gold LED's and 100 65g zealios. Just wanted to confirm they're in stock and will be shipping sometime soon. No rush, just want to make sure I'll get them before the next GB. :P

Hi there,
How much time do I have until I can still be squeezed into the R4 Zealios 65g?
I am about to order (probably) 200-300 of them soon..
Zeal60 v0.4 release is available now. Download (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0490/7329/files/zeal60_v0_4.zip)
- More backlight effects and some fixes to existing ones. Color blending between two colors now uses saturation as well as hue.
- Set all backlight parameters via the .bat file, so you don't need to set them via the keyboard.
- Caps Lock/Fn layer indicators. Make one or all keys change to a color when Caps Lock is on, or you have a Fn layer active.
layer_1_indicator_color=360,100,100 ^
layer_1_indicator_row_col=0,2 ^

Ah, okay. :(
Thought I could order since the website did not say they're out of stock.
Thanks!
Any noticeable benefit to lubing zeal gold screw in stabs? I guess some super lube or zeal v4 couldn't hurt?

1. FN_TT13 & FN_TT23 are not recognized as a known keycode:
"*** Error: Invalid keycode 'FN_TT13'"
2. Can't define the keys for the indicator leds (all/none switch is working)
*** Error: Invalid name/value 'caps_lock_indicator_row_col=0,0'
3. I put in the mouse keycodes, but it seems they don't work.
I have some suggestions, which would be nice to have (imho):
- A 2nd color and/or define multiple keys for the layer indicator leds, to highlight numpad etc.
- A ripple light effect
- 2nd Custom Key Colors (one default, one for "gaming")
Zeal60 v0.5 release is available now. Download (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0490/7329/files/zeal60_v0_5.zip)Wow, that was quick ; )
- Fixed bugs in previous release
- Added "zeal60_mousekey.hex" for people that want QMK's "mousekey" functionality
FN_TT13 and FN_TT23 were in the original prototyping firmware and I stopped using them in favour of TT_MO12 and TT_MO23 (i.e. hold Fn1 and Fn2 to get layer 3). Much more ergo for me, I kept forgetting I had toggled on layer 3 and didn't notice until I typed an "e" ;-) They're now a valid keycode to use with the .bat files.Works like a charm :D
FWIW I am basically pushing the limits of what can be done with an ATMega32U4.That's what I assumed after reading the specs of the controller.
Zeal60 was never intended to compete with "gaming keyboards" for visual effects, just be a high quality, open firmware, custom keyboard PCB that let you have configurable LED colors and some basic effects like gradients. And you
Some things I forgot to mention last night:
- Would it be much trouble to add a num/scroll lock indicator?
- Trible-tap for Layer 1/2?
Hey, Wilba. Appreciate all the hard work. Right now, the options for layer indicators are for one specific LED, all, or none. Any way to pass multiple locations?
layer_1_indicator_row_col=[0,2][3,13]
In my keymap, I have both capslock and split-rshift mapped to FN1. Layer indicator is set to turn capslock to red, and it works great, but it would be nice if both capslock AND split-rshift both turned red. I was thinking that it could be possible to pass multiple row/col pairs. Something like:Code: [Select]layer_1_indicator_row_col=[0,2][3,13]
That would also allow for some interesting layout lighting, say, for arrows or 10-key.

Yeah I would like to do that, but storing multiple switch locations would take up too much room in EEPROM. Best case scenario is storing 72 "bits" like I do with the mods/alphas keymap.
However, your use case could be handled... I'll look into a way of turning on the LEDs for all keys that can make that layer active, and you can use a special name like "activators" instead of a list of row/column pairs.
That's quite the limitation! I wouldn't worry too much about my specific scenario. Not sure how helpful it'll be to most people, and it would take up valuable space in EEPROM. I can get around that by using the spacebar LED the universal layer notification. Layer 1 will make spacebar red, layer 2 will make spacebar blue, and layer 3 will make spacebar purple (if it doesn't do weird things to the RGB controls). Perks of an acrylic case is that the R1 LEDs are really really prominent, and the effect is more subtle then all LEDs, but still nice.
I thought I could save some EEPROM and not bother with numlock/scroll lock since they're hardly ever used.I'm working in 2nd level-support, so in some cases it would be very convinient to have those leds. But I understand your point in saving EEPROM space, considering how less people use them.
Triple-tap for Layer 1/2 is easy to add. I assume you mean do the same thing as FN_TT13, hold for layer 1, triple-tap to toggle layer 2.Exactly, that would be a wonderful addition (for me).
I'll add FN_TT12 next release.
... Or only indicate switches that are different in the active layer...Would that be possible without burning too much EEPROM space? Very interested in that option.
I haven't updated to 0.5 yet but is there is a way to make the last color (random colors) to the raindrop mode? Adding in variable brightness and color? Just curious :)

So, I'm a bit strapped for funds since I've bought 3 boards this month already :(
Does this mean that I could join the GB on Feb 26th and still get it in April-May?

Yeah, I made sure if the spacebar LED is the indicator, the stabs will also light up as well ;-)
I will do some more in this area... I'm thinking about the backlight effects that are there having an "indicator" mode. Rather than indicators being an overlay on top of what the backlight effect is doing, I could make each backlight effect do a different thing when an indicator is active, e.g. gradients get inverted, color 1/2 get swapped, etc.
I guess that is an ISO hole? Anyway, when the screw made contact here, it caused the board to register a lot of key presses and basically not work. Simple fix was to put some tape over that hole before I screwed in the stabilizer. Worked!
Great work on these, zeal. I plan to order 2 more sets!
Ah, Zeal, I just want to say thanks! I have a Zeal60 and some 67G sitting in my cart. There are two voices speaking. Number 1 says, "Don't, your lady will actually end you for this." Voice number 2 says, "Yeah, but you'll die happy." It's been a good ride, but I think voice number 2 will be winning today.
Hi Wilba
I've got my bat file setup with layers and working as I would normally with QMK, but I'm not sure how to implement macros? Could you offer some advice? Or, point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Did anyone manage to get the mouse keys working? For some reason when I try to flash the mouse key hex file it makes the rest of the keyboard unusable.
Is it some sort of memory limitation or am I missing something here?
This might sound stupid, but how do you correctly remove zealeancio silencing clips without breaking them?
"...the zeal60_mousekey.hex works fine for me..."Second that.
Perhaps the firmware is working, and the problem is with the host... what O/S are you using? Can confirm, it's working for me under WinXP, Win7, Win10, Server2008R2, Server2012R2, LinuxMint, MacOS Sierra

Did anyone manage to get the mouse keys working? For some reason when I try to flash the mouse key hex file it makes the rest of the keyboard unusable.
Is it some sort of memory limitation or am I missing something here?
I'm confused, the zeal60_mousekey.hex works fine for me. Are you sure there's no problem during programming? i.e. You can program the zeal60_default.hex and it works, it only stops working after programming zeal60_mousekey.hex.
Perhaps the firmware is working, and the problem is with the host... what O/S are you using?
disable_when_usb_suspended=1 ^
disable_after_timeout=200 ^
Recently got a zeal60 and I love it! I'm having a couple technical issues though so I'm hoping someone here can help. Forgive me if there are simple solutions, I'm kinda new to this. I'm having trouble with these two lines in the bat file.Code: [Select]disable_when_usb_suspended=1 ^
After shutting down the computer blue lights stay on the kb. It's disabled since I cant wake the computer but the lights are still on. Anyway to turn these lights off completely?Code: [Select]disable_after_timeout=200 ^
I can edit the bat files fine except for this setting. Changing the timeout doesnt seem to work for me. The timeout works on the default 200 but seems to be around 10 minutes if I change it to any other value.
Lastly, is there anyway to edit some of the lighting effects myself? I like the reactive typing you have on the cycle all effect and would like to have the same reactive effect on some of the others. Thanks
disable_when_usb_suspended=1 ^
will turn off backlight as soon as the host "suspends" the device, such as when the host is put in sleep or hibernate or shutdown.disable_after_timeout=200 ^
will turn off the backlight after a timeout while the host is still active (i.e. not in sleep mode). A bit like how a screensaver kicks in after a while. Can I used qmk.sized.io to change the layout?
My case is, I've successfully flash the default hex in flip, and then the next step is to choose the desire .bat file. I choose ansi poker2 but it says "error, device not found" thats where I am stuck right now. Oh I also cannot open zeal60.exe if that is a thing.

- Program "zeal60_default.hex" using Flip
- Disconnect USB
- Connect USB
- Double-click on one of the "zeal60_keymap_*.bat" files to program a layout

I saw a post about this on MassDrop as well, but I've been experiencing issues with the screw-in stabilizer wire popping loose when removing keycaps (both lubed and unlubed stabilizers). Would be nice to get the fit a little tighter, if possible, to avoid that issue. It can be really hard to reinstall the wire if it slides away.

Currently investigating the issue with Gateron. I personally haven't encountered it with my builds, but it may be due to the slightly tighter inserts with certain keycaps. Right now the best solution would be to pinch the horizontal stem a tiny bit once or twice. It should make keycap removal easier without accidentally pulling the wire out.

After "flashing" the hex to the PCB, the Zeal60 firmware needs to be running (i.e. NOT the bootloader) for zeal60.exe to work.
FLIP has a button "Start Application" for this, but you can also just disconnect and reconnect USB.
The .bat files execute zeal60.exe to do the work. zeal60.exe is just a command-line program so double-clicking it will just quickly show a console window - there is no window that stays open if you run it.

If it helps with your investigation, it happened to me on Cherry MX Silent stems and Aristotle stems, both in Zealios housings, with DSA and Cherry profile (GMK) keycaps.

I thought it was just a random fluke, but it happened to me too. Using R4 stabilizers, I was actually disassembling a board that I messed up and the wire came loose from the enter key while removing the keycap. I thought maybe I had just not seated it properly. It wasn't a big deal b/c I was already in the process of taking it apart.

So this happens when you remove caps and stab inserts sort of cling on to to the cap and the wire leave the inserts?
Will there be a separate thread for R5?

Yes, that's it exactly. Mine only came out on one side

Quick (read:dumb) question about programming the Zeal60. I read the programming guide on Zeal's site, but I was wondering if there are any visual keymaps of the layouts in the .bat files? Specifically the Zeal60_keymap_Poker2_ansi (mainly for the backlighting controls/settings and other FN layer stuff) and the Zeal60_keymap_zealpc batch files? I'm an idiot and awful with the software stuff/programming for keyboards, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you open the .bat file in a text editor (like Notepad or Notepad++), the keymaps match the physical position of the keys, albeit squished together into a grid and not showing their horizontal postition and widths.
The readme.txt shows the default setup for controlling backlight etc. Basically, hold down Fn1 and Fn2 to get "layer 3" where the backlight control functions are located. You just need to remember which keys are used for Fn1 and Fn2. For the Poker2 layout, they will be in the right-Win and right-Menu key positions (between right-Alt and right-Ctrl on a "standard" Poker2 style layout).
Eventually, I will write a GUI-based configuration app for people to use... the .bat files are a quick-and-dirty solution that's better than recompiling QMK when you want to change layouts, but isn't that user-friendly. However, I've been flat out designing the Zeal65 PCB and the 65% custom case, and haven't had enough time to write the GUI-based configuration app.

I can confirm that this happens and if you have a plate it's a PITA to correct it. What happens is the wire will jump out of the "clip" on the side which then leads to that it jumps out of the stabilizer insert. This is when you remove caps and especially on space.
Does anyone know when R2 Zeal60 is going to ship? I have not seen any est ship dates and I bought another one on Massdrop and was totally sure I would get the R2 from Zeal first since Massdrop takes a million years to ship but I got the Massdrop one first and still have found no info on R2 shipping from Zeal, thanks all.

R4 is pretty much complete. Shipped remaining orders ~51 boxes yesterday afternoon. Only outstanding orders are those combining lustro/holding to return from holidays.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/7hUw7QF.jpg)
Lots of pizzas were sent via DHL.

Glad everything turned out well. :)
Yeah, unfortunately layered acrylic cases are designed to hug the PCB as close as possible, leaving insufficient clearance for the screw in stabs. A bit of small filing fixes the issue though. Didn't have any GON/WKL cases, so I couldn't test the clearance. Regular top mounted boards/tray style cases aren't an issue.
I'm running into the same problem with the LD8 LED not working. I have it jumped on JD7A for a 1.75u RShift and 1u FN. When I desolder JD7A, LD8 starts glowing (albeit flickering).
My keys are working fine, so I've got those programmed properly. I'm at a loss since I've changed the config file to read "#define USE_SPLIT_RIGHT_SHIFT 1". Anything I'm missing?

The settings for the LEDs are stored in EEPROM and can be changed without programming new firmware, using the zeal60.exe and the .bat files. The values in the config.h are just the defaults for when there's nothing in the EEPROM yet. So if you are changing config.h, it sounds like you're building QMK yourself and not using the zeal60.exe/.bat files to program new layouts. Is this correct? If not, just follow the instructions, use FLIP to program the supplied zeal60_default.hex and use the .bat files to both set keymaps and set LED options.
If you ARE a power user and want to build your own QMK firmware etc. then you should clear the EEPROM so changes to the backlight settings (like USE_SPLIT_RIGHT_SHIFT) have a chance to be saved to EEPROM. Hold down Space+Esc keys when you power on (connect USB), this will kick in bootloader AND clear the EEPROM so your custom firmware will overwrite the existing EEPROM settings.

You are awesome! I was indeed building my own QMK and it didn't occur to me that it might be the EEPROM. Your explanation is excellent! I'll see if the .bat file route works first...then I'll think about further customization.
EDIT: That did it. Thanks again!
Does anyone know which, if any, high-end custom boards the Zeal60 RGB is compatible with? Thanks in advance for any info. You could use it with the E6-V2 that is currently in the GB stage right now. There are probably others but that's the first one that comes to my mind.
Hey Folks,
I am having a problem with my Zeal60 R3 from the Massdrop buy that I just finished building (with full soldered Holtites no less).

^ None of those keys work. all things look fine on the back of the PCB and the switches are working, regardless of config. I haven't tested the diodes yet, but wondering if anyone else had this problem and/or knows what the issue is. I even recompiled everything to make sure, so yeah....
Right now, I am guessing that I have a bad diode in there somewhere as that is a curios place to "go bad" so sequentially and I do have plenty of smd diodes to handle if needed.

Reflow the diodes first.

It's obvious there's an issue with the switch matrix column, which is irrelevant to the diodes.
Contact me via PM and I can help you troubleshoot.

Reflowed all the chips, despite them looking good with no visible bridges. Turns out there was too much solder hidden at the back of chips and the column was 10ohm to ground. Drawing out the chips and re-doing the solder (braid + new solder), cleaning with alcohol, and reflashing made everything happy. Seen this before and not uncommon out of the oven or just with how new or saturated the paste used was, no fault here.
Thanks to Wilba for some technical details which made it easier to debug! Not to mention, amazing customer service!Show Image(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171231/017de8f1d8eb89446d8b1604e99fa62f.jpg)
