What are the typical breakpoints for units sold in regards to price reductions for SA?

I would love to know that as well. Nile alphas, sand mods, and novelties exceed the MOQ by a large margin.

Here’s Carbon R2
https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/gmk-carbon-custom-keycap-set/FP/thlX0KGvSYSd8bhs9ftQ_community%20(1).jpg

50, 100, 150, 250, 500, 1000 back in the day. Pricing at 500 MOQ would cover TKL for under 100.

Thanks for this! I don't have access to the cost prices as it was all handled by the vendor, so I'm afraid I don't have any further details to add.

This is pretty disingenuous as SA Carbon R2 ran 4 years ago.... a closer approximation would be Carbon R3 which sold much lower quantities. Also the picture you link to is for the GMK base kit (it's even in the link 'massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/gmk-carbon-custom-keycap-set/FP/thlX0KGvSYSd8bhs9ftQ_community%20(1).jpg')

Another example could have been Skyriter (which was bought out by NK_) https://postimg.cc/1VhGHYpt

At least the pricing for this set wasn't like SA 8010 https://imgur.com/DCFlqQB

This looks absolutely exceptional and I would totally buy it as I'm an Egyptian myself, but as many other people the price is too much for me. Great work!

That makes more sense. I was confused why there was a "base" kit and why it cost so much. It will be interesting to see how many extras vendors order.

Interesting to see the Thok MOQs cut in half after May 6th's graph and their final sales numbers

Woah, those final numbers are something, at least tripling most kits MOQs before extras. No idea what data could have led someone to believe the set would perform so-so. Going to make a killing on those extras though.

I put this on Omni; this is consistent with their kitting preferences and it is a real shame to see.
SA Copper just launched today with more realistic MOQ, better prices, and improved kitting.
Below isn't even an entirely appropriate comparison, as 40s + Ortho are combined in Copper and do not require TKL modifiers or a spacebar kit to be purchased.
A 40s user could outfit a board for $120 with Copper vs $230 for the same 40s coverage with Ramses.
Vendor lack of faith or poor MOQ / kitting decisions made this set entirely unrealistic for many.

Kit                                  Ramses (MOQ)               Copper  (MOQ)
Alphas$55 (100)$40 (250)
Mods$85 (100)$80 (200)
Numpad$45 (50)$35 (75)
Ortho & 40s$45 + $50 (25 / 50)$80 (50)
Total for above kits$280$235

Goddamm mate, thanks for such comparison, I saw SA Dirt (Copper) going live, but since I did not care for it, never checked its price. Yeah, I said it before and say it again, such a shame that this beautiful set got handicapped by going with Omnitype.

The 1st round is not even in production (as it seems), and you ask for round 2.. Get in the line ^-^  (easier would be to get some pre-orders/extras)

Just got a general update letter from Omnitype with updates for a few of their in production keycap sets.  Here's what it said about Ramses:

SA Ramses:
+ The deskpad manufacturer estimates that they will be ready to ship from their warehouse to ours at the end of this month.
+ Signature Plastics has updated us that they do not yet have color matches from their suppliers but assured us they would send them as soon as they do. While SA Ramses is in their schedule for an end of October completion, they are still running a couple of months behind and won't know how/if that will affect our order until closer to time.

I saw that too, is it normal for SP not to have color matched samples after a year? I know most of not all manufacturers are still behind thanks to the pandemic but it feels like SP is maybe more than a few months behind.

That they’re slower than GMK isn’t a huge surprise. I’d be pretty surprised if I had these in my hands this year.

Hello my friends, thank you so much for your patience. I know it's hard to wait for something you paid for more than a year ago; trust me, I really want this set myself!

That said I come with a great update: the colour samples arrived! SP took their time but they got the colours exactly right on their first try.

Just to recap here are the colour combinations:
Dark green alphas: RAL6012 with TBT legends
Beige mods: TN with RAL8000 legends
Accents: RAL8000 with TN legends

Custom colours: RAL6012, RAL8000
Stock colours: TBT, TN

I'm not a good photographer but I tried my best to capture the colours together with the swatches from the colour book, and together with the other stock colours chosen. Everything fits perfectly with what I envisioned and I hope you all think so too!

Above: All the colours with a white chip for calibration.

Above: All the colours without the white chip.

Above: All the colours against the colours in the book.

Final verdict: The colours have been APPROVED <3
Click here for the full album that simply includes the original unedited photos as well.

Once again I thank you for your support and patience. Though I would love to give you updates every single day, I am just a designer in the end. Please check Omnitype's update page for news. I will always update here and on my instagram @avr.ocado if I have anything to share, but ultimately all my news also comes from Omnitype, who are the ones communicating directly with SP.

Anticipated FAQ: Why are the chips half textured and half glossy? Which will SA Ramses be?

To my knowledge, plastic colour chips are always made in textured/glossy versions because we perceive colour differently depending on the texture of the material. Insert a scientific description about light and reflectiveness here, but I hope you get where I'm coming from. People getting colour samples will look at both surfaces and consider the effect based on whatever they're going to apply the colour to. In our case, all SA sets (that I know of) do not have a rough surface, so you would expect the colour to be a little more akin to the glossy part of the sample. However, we all know that ABS caps don't come to you glossy - that only comes after heavy use due to the oils on our fingers transferring to the caps. So the texture of the cap, I can only describe to you as somewhat satiny (SA set users, if you have a better word for it, please jump in). The effect on the shade of the colour will be minimal: it won't be as deep as the full gloss texture, neither will it be as light as the shade is for the rough-surfaced sample. This is why it was so difficult to render the keycap set, because even in renders there are certain lighting setups and even different texture values used, which all affect the shade of the colours that you perceive, and it doesn't help that the green I chose is extremely dark, yet may appear greyish from certain angles. I hope the pictures of the chips and my verbal description helps in constructing a rough mental image of how the colours will turn out. Only look at the renders from this GB thread or the vendor websites, as my older renders floating around on my IG or Reddit might have been poorly done. Even the latest ones right now I can't say for sure if it's accurate, but it does match what I'm envisioning when I look at the actual colour chip in hand. If you still have doubts about the colour, please find a RAL K7 book (or a friend who has one, or maybe a shop, idk if they have these books in shops?) and look at RAL6012 and RAL8000. That's the best advice I can give you right now, and I hope I have done everything in my power to show you what to expect!

Peace and love and all the good GB juju to everyone. May the machines go brrrrr and the delivery companies go zooooom <3
