Yes, unfortunately. You need to pay shipping twice since they ship at different times.

Heads up, I think the images for the RAMA waves and bento kanji might be mixed up on the NK site when you select them from the drop down menu.

on NK, the rama waves and kanji novelties are messed up. the drop down menu selection does not match the picture. selecting kanji rama shows waves pictures, and vise versa. maythrow off new-ish people who don't know what "kanji" is

Have been looking forward to the second round of this coming out, not sure if I will cop the blue alphas yet but I will almost certainly be in for the standard set and the salmon novelties as they really make the set in my opinion. With the amount of orders that would have to be held back we would run out of room very quickly. Mix that with the delays from GMK, and it becomes a very big logistical nightmare.

Whoop whoop, just found out that I’ve got a bit more money this month unexpectedly, so I can go all in!

I was just going to get Base + Salmon, but I’m now going to go for Base + Salmon + Seafood + Chopsticks + Deskmat +

I’m on the fence about the Latin kit and the Sakana kit to be able to fill two boards out and because I’ve been thinking about a 40% at some point - only keys you’re really missing if you don’t buy Sakana and have Salmon/Seafood (and don’t mind using novelties in place of text mods) are the R3 enter keys, so I’m a bit torn. We’ll see.

Vendor usually won't post extras until they've completely finished shipping to the GB participants, so probably a little later depending on the vendor. Sign up for newsletters from the vendors. They usually announce.

When that happens, CandyKeys will put out an announcement, and going from the popularity of this set, they will probably have quite a few extras. However, they will be significantly more expensive than at group buy (I just bought some Ursa extras, and the premium was about 30%), and they will be gone in a SECOND, so be there when they drop. So, best route is to follow CK on insta, get their newsletter and request a stock notification - but be careful, when you have received the in-stock email and clicked the link, they may already be gone...

I certainly hope so too. I feel like there’s less turn around time with second rounds of sets, because the colour matching has been done already and GMK have already produced any custom moulds. I might be wrong, of course.

Unfortunately shouldn't be surprising at this point. GMK sets have been getting pushed back for well over a year no. Kind of the status quo these days.

At this point I just kick back and wait to be surprised when a GB ships.

I can totally sympathize. Unfortunately, I have joined a lot of GB from 2020, and if this is going to be the trend from here on out, I'll be sitting out of any GMK GB until they improve their lead time significantly by adding new machines, or whatever.

16 months from GB to shipping does seem a little excessive though....April to December is an 8-month pushback! They are literally doubling the time it was originally expected to be produced in. Didn't GMK themselves also release a statement not long ago saying their production is expected to double in speed as well?

Something seems weird about this 8-month delay.

Yeah.. Hopefully Biip can shed some light on this. I would understand if the delay is caused by color matching, but this is a second round of a set, so I imagine that no color matching is needed? CMIIW tho.
Anywho, WRT GMK adding more resources (machines, and whatnot), not sure if that's actually happening or was that just PR speak?

That's sadly true.
With lockdowns (and COVID obviously) in Germany, GMK suffered a lot regarding deadlines.

Deskpads have all been completed and shipped to proxies. NovelKeys has fully shipped out deskpad orders. I am not sure if proxies have, but they have been shipped the deskpads.

If this hobby/field of business (depending on the perspective you want to take) keeps growing at the rate it has in the past year (and I am a part of that Covid wave, don't get me wrong), then at some point, the market forces will kick in and the demand will bring in actors that will want to capitalize on that. And with that, I don't mean the Alibaba 30$ sets, I mean same quality and price as GMK, Keyreative, Signature Plastics, just quicker. Obviously, the demand and people with thick enough wallets for lots of 150-250$ boxes of plastic are there, and the legacy players, by completely failing on the upscaling part of the business, are inviting others to fill the gap. In principle, you’re right, but there are variables you’re not taking into account. GMK for example owns exclusive access to Cherry tooling. And Cherry is by far the most popular profile. Hence you can’t just start producing GMK quality keycaps in Cherry. You need to make your own tooling for that, which is crazy-expensive.

Also most of the recent delays are directly related to COVID, to which no one is immune to.

I’d say we’ll see GMK and others keep growing, but I don’t expect to see big companies making their own business out of producing keycaps. It’s much easier for them to outright buy/invest in GMK, Signature Plastics, or any other.

Quick update:

GMK discovered some abnormalities on the surface of 2.25u and 2.75u shift keycaps which imply to produce these keys again. Since it's a very large (kits) quantity, it would take some time, and GMK expect this to be done for March.

This is definitely a very sad news, but I'm sure we can all agree that we rather have hands on a set without issues even if its shipping gets delayed (again).

Current estimated time of arrival: March 2022
