Alternate reality 5x14 full kb + 4x10 compact kb
« on: Thu, 31 December 2015, 06:12:18 »
Hi,
So here is my take on an alternate reality full kb.
Works with imaginary OS.

Orange : dead keys
Cube : function key
Star : user defined function key

Hope you like it !

That 4x10 is actually nice and interesting but I'm puzzled by A->Z layout.
Is there any specific reason behind that?
My opensource projects: GH80-3000, TOAD, XMMX. Classified: stuff

Why the “ergonomics” section? Maybe you can explain a bit about your design goals/criteria? Have you tried building this board and typing on it?

Hi thanks for the replies  :thumb:

They are supposed to be tied to no specific language so I wan't going to use a dvorak or such. And I think historically qwerty was made to slow down english language typing so based on a language aswell. abc seems more natural if you are language and technological history independant.

Its my first time in the forum, the ergonomics section seemed to be the best place to talk about alternate layouts. Please tell me if you think there is a better section elsewhere.  ;D
I'm just starting to get interested in the kb field so no I haven't built it.
I do try to imagine typing on it, but that doesn't really count !  ^-^

The goals : redo compleately the standard full keyboard layout.
Have in very little space a num pad, arrows and all letters.
Plus get rid of the standard ctl, alt, alt gr, win keys and have something simpler like :
- function key (ctrl, win, alt) and alt gr key

Thanks

This is a myth.

Alphabetical layouts have been empirically tested a few times and found to be pretty bad. But don’t let that stop you from building this thing and testing for yourself! :-)

On my tv I have a square ABC display for Youtube.
Its hard to use... but I think qwerty is hard also for beginers.
