Which was the sensible short-SA profile again?
« on: Mon, 30 December 2019, 10:51:37 »
Several older profiles are making a comeback, along with some new ones.

I understand we have some 'half-size' SA profiles now, including 'HalfSA' [HSA] and KAT profiles.

There had been some discussion and debate on this forum about what constituted the best implementation of a short SA-profile.

For example, it was argued that simply reducing the length of SA profile is not sufficient, since SA profile probably wasn't properly angled to modern Cherry ANSI keyboards in the first place. So it needed to follow a more carefully-designed profile curve.

Did any of these new short SA profile sets reflect what is supposed to be a more ergonomic design?

You can see the original hypothesis that classic SA-profile is not meant for modern boards, here:

The HSA thread is here:

The DSS thread:

I guess what I'm asking here, is which of these profiles is a 'success' in being ergonomic on modern boards? I guess it's highly subjective, because there are many people who like ordinary SA profile. But which of these profiles are sculpted along the lines of DCS/Cherry/OEM for modern keyboards? Or does it even matter?

DSS is closest to cherry given it's modeled after DCS sculpt, which itself is pretty close to cherry.

I don't find SA uncomfortable to type on, so I don't have a strong opinion myself.

have you tried OSA? they supposed to be SA form in OEM height.

I would like to give this profile a try but they're relatively new and there are not many colorways have been released yet.

I personally find my finger keep getting caught between edges between rows when typing, so I know SA is not optimized for typing at least for me.

That being said by the same concept I don't believe HSA (being half height same angle) would be better either.

Ohhhh I saw this somewhere before but didn't know what it's called nor how to find it again.

Good job for linking it!  :thumb:

EDIT: Nevermind they're not what I saw, it's actually different profile lol. Search continues...
