Wow! that's not what I expected, but I suppose that sort of turquoise is evocative of cars and "white goods" from the era, perhaps a little more muted though?
Do you have any examples of the reference images you're drawing inspiration from?
I like these colors. If you do go with an alternate blue, make it work with your sea foam so people can mix and match them. Maybe align font size with Retro and/or Round 4/5 to get some compatibility going. No clue about novelties.
This is one of those groupbuys I might actually have to join. I am certain this will get atleast 100 votes no problem on PMK.
I'm in the very early stages of working on a 50's theme set. This is largely inspired by typewriters/Diner colors of the era. I am currently working on Novelty Keys with a retro-futuristic appeal. I will post renders as soon as I finish them. Child Deals will be the last thing I add based on what people want. This is my first design, so any input/advice would be greatly appreciated on any aspect of the project. Will add any details below as they come.
The set is Row 3,1,2,3,4,3 in SA profile. I am pretty set on this, as it replicates the feel of a typewriter as close as possible.
Colors are Signature Plastics ABS:
- Alphas are TM with VCO labels
- Modifiers are RCQ with VCO labels
I still have not decided on a font yet. I like the current font but am not set on it. Thoughts?
thanks GeekHackers.

I like the idea. VCO definitely has that 50's car vibe, but the red legends and Esc aren't to my taste.
IMHO stick with the green and not complicate things with the blue option. Make it look good with two-tone green... like VCO alphas, VAG or VAF mods.
Rock Hudson would approve ;-)

Here is a render with VAG Mods and VCO Alphas. I supposed I could add both of these as child deals of they are popular enough, gives the option of an all VCO keyboard or the full green like you said. Tried to keep a little red in there as that flashy 'vette color goes so well with the green.

Originally I considered offering a full set of Blue modifiers. I scratched that idea as the Green really is my vision for this set. Seafoam is a very distinctive color for the period I want to represent. That being said I will play with a few idea to have blue modifiers for other keys like the F row, Enter, ESC. Here Is The current color of blue mixed with the green. Obviously I could alternate the F row and will offer arrow keys, but this is just to see the color.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/NpiZ6f7.png)

Correct, the main set will be the first image in the original post.
It will be enough to cover a TKL, and include a few extra keys as well.
I will run the green only if there is enough interest.
I'm sorry, I can't get past the red legends. Sculpted SA? Sweet! Retro green/yellow? Cool. Eye-searing clashing red? Noooooooope. :/ Sorry. D:

Yea, I agree with this.
What do you think about white or creme legends on the green mods, and then black legends on the creme alphas? The typewriters from your pics have the white keys with black legends, and I think that looks great like that. Either way, I like where this set is going!
I'm wondering how I could tastefully get some chrome accents into it.

You could use swill's plate builder to design a sandwich case with a steel switch plate and have it chromed.

Thanks! I will be offering blanks no matter what color ends up as the legends as well. I'll do a few renders of that later though!
Yeah, I'll need or order some custom milled chrome cases with Bel Air wings to go with this ;)

Great minds think alike, I think this is the work of Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth, trying to instigate a whole new world order by introducing these particular coloured keys into our virgin keyboards.

Are you really dead set on 3-1-2-3-4-3 or would you be open to 1-1-2-3-4-4 like all Cherry, DCS, OEM, etc sets?
For the novelties, how about a font like one of these:
http://marketplace.veer.com/font/Rocket-Script-FDT0000063
http://www.linotype.com/1047/LinotypeGneisenauette-family.html
http://www.identifont.com/identify?6+%20+1KJ+43+4C+4SN+9Z
They look more '50s to me.
About the icons, you can't have really sharp corners on a doubleshot legend, so it would have to be slightly rounded whichever ones you choose. Perhaps a stylized vacuum tube or jukebox or neon diner sign.
Another option for a case design would be covered with padded red vinyl :)
Yeah Melissa at SP is going over what will work best with the set when its finalized. So its definitely not set in stone
so the novelties will have to be extremely basic for doubleshots, and I am dead set on this being SA doubleshots, so for now the interest check will go up on PMK within the week without the novelties being done. I will work with some people to come up with something that works hopefully by the time it hits the sale page. I didn't want to sacrifice and have to go with a lesser quality simply because of novelties.
This thread is like my homepage now how much I check it. I just bought a red tex case and blue switch v60 to match this as well as red case blue switch leopold numpad.

I think we are in peak SA profile times lol.
Just held out on retro sa so I could wait for this. Gunna get two sets! Can't wait ;D

Thanks for the kind words! I'm really glad you like it! After it hits group buy and (hopefully) tips I'll come back here and see who was supporting it in the "early days" as I usually have some silly crap like mouse pads and coffee mugs made with the logo on it after I'm done as a fun farewell to the project. (until it get enough interest to get made again ;) )
Oh yeah, Greens are absolutely viable for a daily driver. I've basically weeded out the collection from anything other than blues or greens as far as Cherry switches go. In my honest opinion, Clears feel just as heavy as Greens, possibly heavier due to their unique force curve after actuation. Greens are very crisp, while clears are not, which probably helps them not feel as heavy either. Greens absolutely aren't as heavy feeling as some would make them out to be, especially after a week of use it will just feel normal and other switches will just feel...flimsy. I cant say enough about Greens, highly recommended by me.
Just a quick bit of input, the Alt Gr key in the ISO kit it labelled as Row 4, is there a reason it's Row 4 and not Row 3?
dude, you're awesome! Definitely helped, it has twice as many votes as last night. Enigcoder was telling me he wish he ran 1976 off Massdrop, so honestly I may start putting more effort into getting that Massdrop poll up to 200 than about getting the PMK poll to break even. Having both options will be nice for sure, but it will probably do way better on Massdrop.
Liked and shared on r/keycaps, it was the only subreddit I saw without a thread.
Edit: 100 votes woo! Halfway there!
I see the 60% has numbers row 1 but novelties as row 3 including the backspace. Will 60% top row be row 1 or 3?
Loving the progress of this set!
I might have to do blanks with the addition of just the logo novelty keycap.
How about a TV similar to the TV in your logo for a novelty?
Edit: 100 votes woo! Halfway there!
Tomorrow? More like tonight! You're at 150!

I like the novelties, especially the /r/mk rocket. Great job speedbump and enigcoder! :thumb:
This is looking amazing, great progress. Guess I'm going to have to start saving again after ordering Retro SA.
This is coming along so nicely. I wish you luck on this! Hope I have the funds to join in when the GB starts.
Hopefully I'll have some news as to when they will be available sooner than later. It will happen :)That sounds promising. ;D Hope it'll go through Massdrop, though I fear it colliding with Modern Selectric.

Well, if it went through Massdrop I'm sure it would be timed so it wouldnt collide with Modern Selectric. I definitely think it would be benefitial to not rush it out the door so it doesnt collide with another big SA set.
It didn't even get the 25 sales needed to tip. Maybe the recent Massdrop Granite buy stole all it sales, but the last 3 buys on PMK have failed to tip. I think its poor website may be taking its toll.
livingspeedbump is doing this the right way, IMHO. He's asked for and listened to advice, and implemented nearly ever suggestion I've made to improve the keyset to be either more "standard" or more compatible, and striking a balance between kit sizes/cost and the MOQ concerns. He's also not rushing this to GB or fixated on how fulfilment will be achieved.
I'm cleaning up my Inkscape mockup template so he can use this to produce mockups in future, that look a bit closer to the real deal:

Doing a Reply so everyone sees this.Sounds great!
Massdrop has said they are very interested and want to do this drop!
Good news for all! So details with SP still need to be worked out, along with timing it to drop when there isn't another big SA drop like Retro going on, this gives everyone a chance to recover their wallets and not have to decide between two sets, instead you can just buy both ;)
Work Log / Currently Working On...I'd make fewer bigger sets to raise the chance of them meeting the MOQ, because I see this set not being as popular as Granite for example which allowed for many child deals (what a bummer). I hope that it's possible to get quotes from SP on the sets to keep costs reasonable.
- Still finalizing non-standard child deals and figuring out if they should be combined or individual. Combined means more likely to tip, yet more expensive. Thoughts?
Any chance the ISO kit could include the 4 key with the € symbol?
Thanks :)

Sorry, I asked before, but what about turquoise and red 7u spacebars?
In the nordic/slavic/DE kit, there seems to be an error?
Judging by this http://www.qpad.se/uploads2/MK80/QPADMK80-NORDIC-Layout.png,
[ Å ] should be R2, [? +] should be R1, [ * ' ] should be R3, [ Æ ] and [ Ø ] should also be R3. (=> only [ ALT GR], [ SHIFT ], [ <> ], [ , ; ], [ . : ], [ ^ " ] is R4)
On another note, this looks so so promising. I've been looking for something like this; it feels just like christmas.
Maybe I've overseen it, but I think your German/... ISO kit misses the R4 key with underscore and dash (left of right shift):Show Image(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/36/KB_Germany.svg/640px-KB_Germany.svg.png)

Not this one. The Sculpted SA was one of the few "non-negotiable" aspects of this set, and that is a SP exclusive.
I realize there are quite a few right now, though the community does also love their SA keycaps. That being said this whole kit is based off a 50's typewriter and those higher profile keys really enhance the look and feel, which in turn enhances this set. Also, this is so far along that changing a profile now would delay the project for a very long time. Massdrop is on board, talks with SP are happening, so...basically not possible. Their pricing is great, totally agree, but my whole vision for this set would be compromised if I switched now.
Now, I've seen other sets where people were making SA profile sets based off of games, which was a little confusing to me. That is one of the cases where I would definitely look into/use a different profile. SA is pretty much just for typing.
In the future would I be interested in doing something through JTK? Absolutely. Could this set even be run as a JTK set one day? Perhaps, I wouldn't be against it if there was interest in the future. I don't create these these sets and want to "control" them, I really just do it for the community. I hope that was an acceptable and understandable answer.
There was a rumor that SP was making a row 4 SA shift key mold late last year, did that never happen?
Not that I am aware of.
This set is looking better every time I look in on this thread!
Can't wait for this one to go live.
What is Retrobright?
Hey were you gonna add in a 1.75u shift, FN keys, or some 1u blue winkeys to this keyset?
Looking forward to this set. It's actually my catalyst for joining geekhack.
Just added JD40/Planck/Atomic/Ergodox support, but they will not be available until after the first run. When the new PMK store gets its overhaul I will make them all available. There hasn't been any huge interest in any of them, but thanks to the way the new store will work it would be silly not to make it as compatible as possible. It should also be noted that these kits will all be R3. This is to make it as customizable and affordable as possible.I like your intentions. Though we don't really know how the conditions for the pre-production will be. I guess there are going to be some limitations considering the risk they are taking.
Your kits look good. Nice job man.
One note on the Planck/Atomic kit (realizing that it will be down the road a ways): Your "High" and "Low" keys can really say anything you want. I think the stock nomenclature is "Raise" and "Lower" on those keys -- the logic being that you're raising or lowering the programmable layers on the board. I used High and Low on my Danger Zone kit because it felt more in line with the aviation theme (high altitude, low altitude) and because those legends fit the space on a 1u cap, but it's not remotely standard. I've also seen "Up" and "Down" on those keys. Feel free to use whatever fits best with your theme. If you still prefer High and Low, that's totally cool too.
If the comments so far are any indication this set seems like it will be a runaway success. :thumb:

Basically overhaul the whole process, so you may have to wait a little for the site to be redone and put it up as an interest check there when it's ready. I like the idea behind the new system, but I think it will take away a little of the "limited time only" exclusivity of some of the sets. Definitely better for planning which sets to buy when, though.

Yeah, some of the novelty is gone. But it's better than a constant stream of latecomers asking when the next round is happening or if the GB is still going. And I guess if you still want the novelty you can always run your own "traditional" group buy and just have SP make the caps, or make arrangements with CtrlAlt, or do it like Ivan does. This really only affects PMK.

Yeah, I'll be curious how this affects the guys like CtrlAlt that will still be doing one-of group buys. I can really see it going both ways, though I feel like that will still be a pretty valid model for sets.

I think CtrlAlt is shifting its business to JT Keycaps from now on. I know Bunny has stated at least once that Hacked by Geeks was his last SP group buy. So as far as GeekHack is concerned, everything is either run through the PMK system or it's moving on from SP completely. Engicoder's 1976 add-on pack is the only one I'm aware of that will be run as an SP "traditional" group buy.
There's 7bit's Round X, but I consider that more of a Deskthority thing. :P

I am curious to see how the JTK set ends up. I order a set mainly out of curiosity even though I wasn't a huge fan of any of the colors. They have great prices, and look much better than SP DCS keycaps, which I hate. I can see traditional GB's being run just to have a limited set and it being a big hit. I can also see it flopping because the market will seem a bit oversaturated at first, especially compared to what we're used to. Time will tell. It does suck I have to wait for Danger Zone longer :( This will have to hold me off until then :thumb:

JTK is just getting their DCS/Cherrry/OEM (or what every they are calling their profile) finished up, so I doubt they will be jumping into creating a whole set of spherical molds anytime soon.

lol! Had a similar reaction myself upon reading livingspeedbump's post.
Thinking this set would look good on a Cherry G80/1 1800 - dyed/painted of course :D
I only got the Modern selectric alphas, the modifiers are SOOOOOOO expensive, its insane. I think a lot of this is due to how many custom keys that had to make for it.Yeah, that's why I'm no longer considering it at the moment. I definitely can't get all of them. The Ergodox kit is also super expensive, because all the modifiers have legends.
When I got my original quotes, Jukebox will originally start at $115 for the whole base kit that covers TKL, and Winkeyless, with a few novelties.
I know it's late in the process to be making requests, but how about a reverse-color alphas kit?
Or perhaps a reverse-color gaming alphas kit (WASD + ERFG)

Not exactly a cheap Winter here either........
Just have to sustain multiple hits in the wallet's backside all through this season and hope that at the end of it, nothing is permanently damaged.

hopefully that extra week happen, definitely was a solid suggestion. thanks!
Hey everyone! I have some concrete news for ya,
Massdrop listened to the request to push the drop back a bit. The drop will be at the end of next week (June 12-14ish). They will be dropping a DSA set tomorrow where Jukebox would have been. This was a community request, and I've tried my best to listen to every bit of input I could along the way. I think it works well as the drop should finish right As usual, this was a very good request, it give everyone (myself included) a bit of time to recover from Retro.
Pricing is being worked on now, but he says its looking good so hopefully it is around the target range he wanted (50-60 for the base). I'll let everyone know more on that when I know, should be a day or two.
I just thought I should confirm the drop dates here for everyone so you know its coming! Start saving!

Not sure yet, since Massdrop is handling the set they are doing most of the talking to SP now. Obviously it shouldn't take that long, 4-6 weeks seems to be the norm for SP now. Its an odd time with all the new stuff they are doing there though so I'm honestly not sure.
There could also be different times for different profiles. Good question though, I'll report back when I have something concrete for you. End of the day I'd rather SP be honest about time than have huge delays.
Wow, so this really comes true :v
Viva SA!!!DSA sucksWow, so this really comes true :v
Yes, definitely happening! Jukebox was supposed to be this week, but it switched with the galaxy DSA set so it should drop right after that :)
It will be on massdrop by next weekend!

Give it the full 13 (or more) day wait period, the longer it sits on MassDrop, higher the numbers of people signing up for them :thumb: .

unfortunately I can't make any more changes now. i tried to take all the input possible, and could have put one in had anyone requested it earlier. sorry!

Hey can I get a R7 set for the alphabet of the Quechua languages of pre-Columbian South America? I can't believe you don't have that. And what about an HHKB-compatible set for the nomadic Pashtun tribes of South Central Asia?

I'm ready.....Brown switches instead of blue to be nice to coworkers. but blue numpad when things get crazy. But when a paper or project is due I plan on buying a pok3r blue switch with Danger Zone keycaps for the "Big Guns"
TLDR Browns (Jukebox) playing cool with the guys, Blues (Danger Zone)when its time to go to war.
Would there be any possibility of a R4 tilde/backtic key in the non-standard child set?I don't expect this 1-post user to respond, but why on earth would you want a R4 tilde? You realize SA R4 is the bottom row (ZXC...), right?

I knew it had to be something like that, which is why I didn't want to just laugh off the idea. Still, I don't see a whole lot of interest in this, unless i do a non-standard-non-standard child deal. I'll run a poll though and do what people want though :thumb:

I will have a poll before the additional child deals go up on PMK in a few months, so I'll make sure this is an option! Thanks for the input :)

Pricing is almost exactly the same as SA Retro after shipping. I currently can't see the pricing as I don't have access to the page anymore either, but nothing crazy.

Sweet! I did want to make sure existing owners had a few sets to pick from. I'm actually really stoked about the homing row. Never been done by a set for MX before, and I really love the way it feels.
Do you think jtk can come up with some 6u topre sa and dsa compatible caps?
In the renders, the alpha keys look far from each other.
I know this is a weird niche thing, but I would really like a windows 95/98 key (whatever you want to call it). I would maybe be willing to pay for a mold.
Do you think jtk can come up with some 6u topre sa and dsa compatible caps?
From what I've heard they are very busy with adding support to the existing cherry profile caps
Best bet would be to lobby SP to get the molds made themselves

Sorry, this isn't happening. Even if you do pay for a mold I'll have to stick it in a kit, and people that don't want it or care will still have to pay for it. I already trimmed out a lot of the "fat" with my existing novelty kit for the new kits as well, to get this down to being as affordable as always.
If someone wants to use the colors of Jukebox and make a buy for keys that fit the set, you are more than welcome.

I understand. Might consider a buy, but as I said, the interest wouldn't really be there most likely. Thanks for the go-ahead in any case.

So for R2 what is the probability of a fc660c set?
This is a first! (I think)So for R2 what is the probability of a fc660c set?
Yeah the 660C/M will be taken into consideration, and the proper keys will be provided in a kit. Not sure if the adapter kit, or another kit, but I will have them :thumb:
Definitely in for a set of round2s

Most of the time you just have to deal with not having a extra left shift key every gb I've seen.
Yeah, its about time this becomes a standard inclusion I think.

Uh, it will still just be MX caps, so if you want to use them on a 660C and not a 660M you'll still need the sliders. I'm just throwing in the needed keys to accommodate for the layout.
Hey everyone!
Thanks for following this set the first go around! I'm finally starting things back up to prepare for Round 2, which will happen much sooner than later.
All content will be updated in the Original Post as I go, so any new info will be there as well as in the comments to make it easy for you to keep track of what is happening.
I will have new rough renders of my new kits in a few days for feedback and thoughts. New possible kits include Planck/Atomic/JD40, 75%, EergoDox, HiPro homing row, Row 4 Shifts (for people that already own the kit).
Massdrop will be running this kit again.
I am also going to talk with a few community members and develop some new novelties for Round 2, and will be taking out a few from round 1, just to keep each drop a little different.
So, is going to be an entire topre set, or would we need topre to cherry sliders?

Have you thought about making the up arrow keys and all the keys that are meant to be pressed by the thumbs in R3 rather than R4?

Why are you going around and making this exact post on every keycap thread? This doesn't make any sense for a number of reasons.

I only made it on three that were each started by a different designer … am I doing anything wrong by asking them an honest question?
Yes, I was perhaps a bit too harsh. It sounds from what you're proposing though that you would end up with mismatched profiles, and nobody wants that.
Well, almost every spacebar has a different profile from the rest of the keys in its row, so can't the profiles of the keys on the bottom row already be considered mismatched?
I was making these suggestions for ergonomics reasons: If they were taken, my thumbs wouldn't have to press on sharp corners while using the Alt keys and the number pad 0 keys and my middle finger wouldn't have to hurdle when it moves from the up arrow key to the down arrow key and back.

Just turn the row 4 keys 180 degrees and you get an even milder angle against your thumbs when compared to row 3.

You're not doing anything wrong but it's previous obvious that it's not a common design if you needed to ask three separate designers. When it comes to sets everybody can't have what they want so generally there is a design for the populous to agree on.

To be fair to him, that was the standard design before people determined that there were R4 1.25u mods in semi-matte surface finishes and started making spherical sets match the profiles used on cherry sets. Also, I believe 7bit prefers R3 mods too since there are no convex bottom row mods available in SA, and if you look at round 5(a) (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Round_5a) that is how all those sets are profiled. So he was just asking for what used to be the standard instead of the new flavor people like.

That's not what I'm talking about. I don't care what he wants the bottom profile to be, as long as the bottom profile is all uniform. He elaborated on a different thread that he wanted only some keys on the row as R3, which I just think would be ugly.

Nah, I'm a pretty big fan of R4, both feel and aesthetic wise. I can understand wanting R3, but thats just one of the little details I don't want to change this go around. Another reason not to change as well is that I'll be adding a few new novelties, thus mixing and matching from both sets wouldn't be possible if i changed my profile now. Fair question though!

I don't understand … can you please explain why you like it better for the keys I mentioned to be in R4 rather than R3? If they were R3, my thumbs wouldn't have to hit sharp corners on the Alt keys and my right middle finger wouldn't have to hurdle over one when it moves from the down arrow key to the up arrow key.
And then there are us crazy cherry nerds who like R5 :p

A surprisingly large number of people try to get GMK sets produced with an R4 bottom row. Sometimes it seems like me and ideus are the only ones who want R5

Yeah, it's important to keep in mind that these sets are usually always collaborative efforts between the community and the designer, and so sometimes compromises have to be made to keep the set universally satisfying and compatible (and this in turn helps with reaching MQO in some cases!). I think if your idea was implemented, it'd go against the preferences of the majority, not to mention throw off the row profile on a 65% or 75% board.
You kind of just have to roll with what you get and make the best of it! Accommodations are sometimes made; I think LSB is going to add 75% support to this second round (it looks like the Planck/Atomic set might be the pack that will also shoehorn 75% support), but with the first drop, I had to rock a '5' key on row 3 of the 16th column, since there was no compatible key for it.

I know a few other big sets are dropping first, even at 1 a month it should only be a few months away tops. On the meantime I am trying to conjure up the best additional kits. will start posting them when i know a date to ramp up the interest then :thumb:
So happy to hear there will be a round 2 for this. Love the look of this set and having gotten into mechanical keyboards less than two months ago, I feel like I missed all the awesome looking sets.

Hey Everyone! Rolled out a big update with some new kits. The last big kit I am working on is a "funky size" kit, for those 65%/75% keyboards. I hope to include as many options as possible in this. Things like the White Fox/Octogon, Smart68, FC660, etc, will be considerd.
If you have any feedback on existing sets, please let me know! If there is anything you'd like to see, please let me know as well! I am considering adding some blue keys in with the alt. color pack to use instead of the red, let me know if you dig that idea, I need to gauge if that is worth it or not.
Thanks!

How many people joined for the first round?
I definitely want to be in for next round. Any specific schedule?
I'd like to see some more R1 red novelty keys :)
The forum keys are good, but I prefer using a red escape key with this set.

also, hhkb / hacker layout support (short right shift, 1x1 pipe etc)

The adapter kit already supports the hacker/hhkb layout ;)
Icon mods probably wont happen unless there are a lot of people that want it, but the base kit wont change, so it would be expensive to say the least.

I would really appreciate it if someone could direct me to some color-accurate pictures of this set. I bailed on the round 1 drop at the last minute because, after examining the color chip, I thought the alphas were a little too brown for my taste. I was hoping that seeing the actual product on keyboards would help me make a decision on whether to purchase round 2. Since round 1 has completed, I've seen a few images of this set, but the colors vary. In some images, the alphas are off-white. In other images, the alphas are tan. I've seen a few images where the alphas look a lot like yellowed ivory.

also, hhkb / hacker layout support (short right shift, 1x1 pipe etc)
The adapter kit already supports the hacker/hhkb layout ;)
Icon mods probably wont happen unless there are a lot of people that want it, but the base kit wont change, so it would be expensive to say the least.
I'd love to see some icon mods as an option!
Ill see if any other designers will let me use their molds, because it would make things more expensive than i would want to fund new ones with this set.
Yeah, they basically are no different than novelties as far as I know.

What sort of board did you have in mind? Size? Backlighting? Switch type? Bezel? Custom? There are so many options. :D

I do have a colemak+dvorak set so you should be good there :)
I stumbled down this rabbit-hole purely by accident last week just looking for an external to my Macbook Air/replace my Razer Anansi and have spent all my downtime flipping through here and deskthority. I'm looking at a 60% or 68% or so board. IDEALLY The White Fox that I missed on Massdrop (also new to massdrop...). I have been leaning to the Pok3r or the KBP60, but also eyeing the Varmilo 68 that's on Massdrop now. I'm a writer so I'm not sure if the functionality of the Pok3r would be lost on me. I do like that it comes with an aluminum base. I'm meh about backlighting. I kind of like it but it's not important. No idea on switches so I just ordered a tester. Also Colemak compatibility (which I'm also new to).
Updated the kit with a good request from Engicoder to include a Green "\ |" key as well.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Nk7Ua2z.jpg)
Few updates:
Inquired about using someones Icon Mods for the run, will give more info on that as it develops as a possibility.
For the Non-Standard Adapter kit, I added a few keys to support 75% and 65% layouts. The 1U keys on the left on each row are really to give some layout options for those layouts mentioned. Instead of making specific keys, having these more "generic" terms will allow the keyboards to at least use something in those slots instead of a wrong key entirely.
Also, i forgot to mention that the "ENTER" key has been changed to "RETURN" as I felt it suited the set better.
Please shoot any suggestions you may have my way.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/FZ0uivt.jpg)

If they're the 2u (tall) keys, they'll also be able to be used on the += keys on the number pad. Just wanted to point that out.

But who on earth except like, a tiny handful of people have those even? Hahaha. Dear god. Good luck, man!
Are the sets going to be the same price as the first round? Also, what would that be? Definitely plan on buying a set, just need to know how much money to put aside for when the time comes around.More or less, adapter kit has a few extra keys, a few have less. Aiming for more buyers this time around though, so hopefully cheaper all around! 80 or less for tkl base I'd imagine
Ok, some changes that are going to show up in the renders soon.Maybe a blue gamer/esc kit?
No Atomic support. This really raises the price of the 40% kit, and I feel like very few will actually buy this for the atomic, so unfortunately for the good of the majority I will be scaling back that set. A Cream space bar for the planck will be added though.
Novelties will be finalized soon. The DT key is getting a bit of an overhaul, and the ErgoDox 2u thumb cluster will have all new novelties.
Looking at adding a 4th color, probably blue, somewhere in the kit as an extra set. This was something I had toyed with the first time around, though it just never came to fruition.

Would it be possible to provide the colours inverted for the function row, so that somebody can make the function keys all blue or all white?
So the new keys would be:
Blue F1, F2, F3, F4, F9, F10, F11, F12
and White F5, F6, F7, F8
EDIT: Yeah I've already posted this request on a different account (sorry! Forgot I'd posted already, and forgot the other account's password and lost its email)

Yeah I can make a mockup of this. Is anyone else interesting in a "Flex Pack" (See Carbon's drop for visual example until i get renders)? Basically the ability to have all 1 color on both the F row and Number Row?

Personally not interested in a flex pack, but I can see this to be a desirable option. (Can't remember how many of these actually sold during the Carbon drop though.)

I can ask the MD guys the numbers. Yeah, personally not my thing either, but if there is interest I can throw one together. A lot of the more obscure kits that may not tip, I will present to SP and let them run them eventually as well.

That'd be awesome! I can't wait to get this set, and I'm sure after that, I'd probably load up on some of the other options down the road. Helps to break up the spending a bit =P

Yeah i need to see if PMK still has any of the nordic kits. Those were abysmal in sales last time, and if they still have some in the store I probably won't run that kit this time. That ends up just making it more expensive for everyone else.

Will there be Ergodox set with legends? Pretty please? At least different colours for the the ergodox mods so that they are easy to recognize?

Something along the lines of Granite's Ergodox addon would be nice.

Here's the problem with that. Granite was uniform profile (DSA) and dye subbed. Not only would the cost of the set rise to pay for new any new molds, I would literally have to have the set be 3-4 times larger than any other ergodox set so far because everyone uses such a different layout on the ergodox. I am putting some novelties into the set still, but legends on a sculpted set for a keyboard like the Dox just doesn't seem to be a good idea. I can see people just wanting this key or that key added indefinitely.

Curious how this would blend together with Nantucket...
Also, seeing the change to a 'return' key interests me greatly. I really dislike 'enter', that key will forever be return in my mind.

How about at least the default ergodox layout? That should satisfy the beginners on the dox at least. I for one have been using blanks exclusively untill I shifted to the ergodox this month. And now I need legends as the learning curve is pretty steep. Talk about dropping from 80wpm down to 35.
Hm, well that would definitely be the start of the labels. I'll see what I can come up with. I can add a few generic keys (hyper, meta, super) along with a few blanks/novelties and see how it comes out. Again my main concern is simply pricing and making it far too expensive. Ill try to come up with a render in a day or two and get some feedback on it though!

Hey got the same request. I am thinking to implement just the default layout as displayed on github. But in my opinion the blank keys should stay too (for custom layouts). Also i think about to make it standalone kit with alphas.

Hm. Yeah making the alphas standalone would really help plank/dox users. Will look into all these options over the weekend and try to get pricing based on some mock renders.
Sry for posting Carbon related stuff in Jukebox' thread, but this is how it supposed to look. There are some double keys on github and i dont know why. I replaced one with super.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/uRvgEdZ.jpg)
Basically i think this is ok and might even cost less than base kit + ergodox kit.
Edit: forgot blanks for tumb cluster.
I would recommend separating out the alphas. Having a complete Planck kit with alphas, a complete ergodox kit with alphas and so on would just make it harder for those of us who have more than one keyboard and want to use it on all of them in turn.
Ok, good. Just... Making sure then. As you were! 😁
I like that you've split out the alphas (even tho I won't be buying this for a planck or a dox) :thumb:
I see you've added a flower key in the ErgoDox set. Will this also be added to another set as well for the rest of us, non-ergodoxers?

Yeah, still just finding where to put it. I may do a poll for a few novelties and pick the most popular ones if i have too many :) Like i said before, I wanted to make sure to include some new novelties each time in replace of some of the old ones. Ill be keeping the atom for sure, but probably do the flower in place of the star!

Hey just an idea: you got already flowers but how about vinyl record? Afaik jukeboxes are about vinyl records. Additionaly you can also add music keys like this:Show Image(http://images.crestock.com/1930000-1939999/1932426-xs.jpg)
Ok, some non-finalized kit changes for people to look over. I will not finalize changes until I see pricing. I detached the alphas from the base kit, and made a TKL/60% with the modifiers. This allows Dox/Planck users to get a better deal. Added default legends to the Dox kit, along with blanks. I WILL NOT add random keys for layout changes to this kit. That would just be a road that would lead to a ridiculously expensive kit, so stock+blanks is the best I can do there. Also going to take out the space bars from Adapter/Color mod kits and sell them separately to help pricing on those.
The Nordic kit WILL NOT RUN. PMK store still has them in stock, and due to the fact that they sell under 10 units, it is just not worth it price wise to run it again.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Zeisjly.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/LrlhhX1.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/qbsx28q.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/0b0oC1W.jpg)

The renders are a bit rough, did a rush job just for feedback at this point. :thumb:
Ok, some non-finalized kit changes for people to look over. I will not finalize changes until I see pricing. I detached the alphas from the base kit, and made a TKL/60% with the modifiers. This allows Dox/Planck users to get a better deal. Added default legends to the Dox kit, along with blanks. I WILL NOT add random keys for layout changes to this kit. That would just be a road that would lead to a ridiculously expensive kit, so stock+blanks is the best I can do there. Also going to take out the space bars from Adapter/Color mod kits and sell them separately to help pricing on those.

It's good to keep things simple, and these sets seem to understand it. :thumb:
Yeah im looking at doing a very simple radio/turntable/record icon of some sort. It does kind of need one like you said :)
Much appreciated good sir!
Will there be Ergodox set with legends? Pretty please?

One potential icon you could use would be a 45 rpm adapter aka spider (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/45_rpm_adapter). A record is probably more fitting for a jukebox theme but just throwing out another option.
Ok here is another one. This time i took kinesis keyboard layout. Its the father of ergodox and so it defines its default layout. Added also some obvious additional keys so everyone can adjust the layout to ansi. I think that's the majority is using. For weirdo layouts there is pmk store which offers blank keys. I appreciate that its free programmable but there must to be a standard to it, else its just unprofessional device.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/PWhYnVQ.jpg)

So the biggest thing I worry about is the fact that it is programmable, and pretty much any user that heavily uses the ErgoDox has probably loaded their own layout onto it, and thus would end up needing the blank kit.
On the other hand, the recent drops have been so successful that many users will be getting their first, and having legends will help them out drastically I bet.
So I'm stuck wondering if blanks+standard layout is best or if just blanks. Now, my final thought would simply be to run with blanks now just to help with overall pricing of the drop, and THEN I can put the set back on PMK again and add kits like the legend dox kit.

any chance in making the "Funky Size" set helpful for 45% keyboard owners? -
- 1.75 R4 spacers
- 1.25/1.75 R4 shifts
isn't the only thing that you need blank 1.75u R4s?
1.25 and 1.75 shift keys are covered in the iso and extended layout options

So lately I've been thinking about 60% keyboards and pok3rs really seem to be the most common thing around. The poker can remap the caps to fn which it seems a lot of people do. What are the changes of getting some sort of meta key included to accommodate this? Doesn't need to say FN specifically but maybe be blank, or jukebox or a symbol or something. In red or green. :) Or is it expected that people just use the control key in its place no matter the function? :)
By the way, I also wrote on massdrop regarding a backspace/backslash swap option, as seen on the KUL. Which you said you would consider. If I am actually the only guy asking about this definitely do not make the set more expensive on only my behalf. :)
Really looking forward to round 2 :)
when can we expect round 2 to happen ?
I need this to feed my addiction !
I have been thinking about the ergodox lately, and namely the Jukebox Ergodox render (https://www.keychatter.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/keychatter_2016-02-09_17-45-40.png). Then I looked a bit at the Carbon SA, Danger Zone and Granite. Then I looked a bit at a TKL with Jukebox (https://www.keychatter.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/keychatter_2015-10-14_19-33-58.jpg). I started wondering, if the TKL with Jukebox is so damn pretty, why does the Ergodox render look so, uhm, unexciting?
I think it is the lack of font. The dual color keys creates the charming appeal of Jukebox. Even just the 2u thumb buttons of the Carbon set creates enough colors to keep it exciting. DangerZone more so and same for the Granite.
Does anyone feel the same or just me? Is it possible to spice up a few keys without making them character specific, like for Carbon?
Ah, valid observation. Yeah, I'm finishing up the novelties for it still, it will have a few special keys, notably on the thumb cluster! As an ErgoDox user myself, I won't leave the kit out to dry. Promise :thumb:
The new novelties will probably be shown when the kit actually launches, there are still a few that are being worked on/added/etc as that is the main new addition this time around, along with the new kits and correct shift keys
By the way, did you see what DangerZone did (https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/MD-11125_20150924142122_87880408e7f6a7f1.png?auto=format&fm=jpg&fit=crop&w=1023&dpr=1)?
I think this comes pretty close to defining a good base set. On top of this a horizontal 1.5u control and fn would be nice. If you want to keep costs down how about making the blank and lettered sets separate in the drop?
Also, still waiting on your ErgoDox review ;)

How about adding a ctrl key on R3 for planck? As a developer, I always re-program caps lock to control anyway...

This can definitely happen!
Be on the lookout for a lot of renders this week as i tighten up an finalize kits for a run right around the corner :thumb:

Anyone got images of this on a white TKL or Full-size keyboard (preferably a Ducky YOTG)? I'm tempted by this, and whilst it looks great on 60% keyboards with barely any bezel, I'm wondering how it will look next to the large white expanses on my YOTG - I'm worried that it may clash a bit.
What are the options for ErgoDox users?

I will have a complete ergodox mod set, and the alphas will be their own kit as well so it will hopefully be relatively cheap for dox users, and not require you to buy keys you dont really need :)
Drop is probably happening next week

This is so cool LSB. Definitely gonna be a fun drop. We need more jukebox!
Drop is probably happening next week :rolleyes:Any way we could get a sneak peek at the new novelties or full workup on non R1 layouts before next week? And, possibility for "return" on 1u for planck/preonic/dox?
I've finished up development with a small group of people giving me feedback to help speed up the process. As always, I have tried my best to cater to everyone as well as possible, though have tried to keep the kits basic so this is an affordable drop for everyone as well, including Planck and ErgoDox users

RETURN doesnt fit as well as I'd like on a 1U key, so those still say ENTER. Same with 1U saying CAPS LOCK instead of SHIFT LOCK like the rest of the kits.
Hopefully people enjoy them

You're so modest. Watch there be 2,000 orders by the end of the drop :thumb:
You gonna tip your hat across the pond and leave a note on RMK? Not that I've been spying over there or nuffin
Big updates err...drops...imminent. :p

Thank you for making the second run LSB. Very happy that we were able to hit the lowest price point on the alphas.
I remember you saying something about having some extra forum kits. If so, would it still be possible to get one from you?

Hello, do you still have base kits for selling (and Alternate Color Modifiers Kit may be) ?
Thank you. I'll probably wait for the round 3 (if it will happen)

As far as I know they will have all/most of them available.
I will also be letting PMK handle a full run/restock of the set as well sooner than later.
If anyone has a Non-Standard Adapter Set that they could spare, my TX-1800 would greatly appreciate it ;)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/ywJeuql.jpg)
