Did the PCB's ever make it to TJ? How about the plates?

Would the organizers consider shipping orders that don't require assembly or stabilizers when the parts arrive versus waiting on everything to be together etc?

I guess since you can buy costars at wasd, but you can buy mx stabs at imsto and gon for example! :O
Very busy with studies atm.

It seems that Gon will have more Cherry PCB mount stabs next month:

http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/stabilizers/18-pcb-mount-stabilizers.html

If stabs are going to lock the group buy up I'd rather they just ship the PCB and components, I'd rather just source the stabs for myself.

What I was thinking was that maybe imsto or gon could help us source stabs for the whole gb. If not them then maybe some friendly people from otd.kr ?

I posted this a while back but it got buried I guess...
I've spoken with GON since and he said he could match the price in the OP for the cherry stabs only iirc. Not sure exactly how many we need though.

Just so no one gets their hopes up prematurely, please realize that ordering stabilizers was one of the responsibilities we "inherited" from WFD. As far as I know, WFD never ordered the stabilizers, and doesn't have any currently. And we are having a slight problem in sourcing them, as everyone seems to be out of stock. If anyone has a source of available stabilizers, please let us know.

GON told me he thinks he can supply the cherry stabs sets, but not the costar.

So I decided to try to do the math of how many stabilizers we would need and tried to add all this up from the spreadsheet in the OP...

This is not exact because some people did not specify exactly which stabs they wanted. In this case I choose for them and choose cherry PCB stabs because they are the most flexible with the universal plates. I also did not factor in the space bar wires that people wanted. but that is just bending the wire to size and not the actual stab kits themselves. I know that some people took over other peoples orders so that may also throw this off as well.

Cherry PCB stabs = 121
Cherry Plate stabs = 147
Costar stabs = 77

I'm pretty sure gon only can do the PCB stabs, I'll ask him about the wire sizes too next time I speak to him.

Does mouser have the plate mount stabs?

from what I have seen looking around between gon and imsto they might be able to do the cherry stabs. costar is really the problem.

edit: imsto also has cherry pcb stabs....

It would be great if we could get thick wires for the stabilizers. They seem to rattle less. For example, Imsto's version of cherry PCB mount have great wires.

Where are we for cases on this? I know they're not a part of this GB but from what I've dug up most people are making buys for poker like plastic shells. Kind of a bummer if you want a not full key layout.

GBs for plastic shells? Most are metal and there's one or two acrylic ones, but I've not seen a GB for plastic ones.

Tinlong had such a buy at one time, but I can't remember if it was before or after the start of the GH60 gb. also I think it was canceled, but he sold some in the classified, along with KBT Pure PCBs.

It's not the getting of a case, it's that I was either doing winkesless or HHKB style. Neither of which a lot of people want so there are no buys for them.

GON had a small hhkb/winkeyless case groupbuy, but it was pretty expensive and past deadline already.

I think the most simple way is use a tray type case that's already available, then have thin piece of whatever material you like lasered out with the 'missing' key blocks in. I think there is enough bezel that you could epoxy a top on that takes care of aesthetics without needing to spend a fortune.

RL issues have been really unforgiving, which was why I couldn't fulfill my part of this GB. It shames me to see that my slack was picked up by JD, komar, tj, and some new guys that have stepped up.

I've had most of the stabilizers since last year, including cherries and costars. I just need to get a count on how many I ordered. The custom wires were to be ordered through a company, but I will have to get in contact with them again.

Whatever loose ends are left, I promise to get them done. But I still need to get catch up where this GB currently is at, as well as the rest of the forum status. I have involvement in a few other projects as well.

Thanks for giving us a status update WFD!

But at this point I am not really sure whether the stabilizer situation is actually a problem anymore.

But of course JD, Komar and TJ have better insights :)

Okay guys, so a status update:
The PCBs have been produced and the US/Canada part is being shipped to tjcaustin. imsto's package is on its way too, directly from China.

As far as plates go. I still have to pick them up and get them to TJ in TX. After that, I wash my hands of it all!
Hopefully everything else falls into place from here.

Any update on either of these?

Assembly needs to be done for most boards I think (resitors, the controller, etc.). This will take some time.

I thought all that stuff (diodes, controller, resitors) was factory done with pick and place? That the assembly was just switches, plates, stabilizers etc.

From the OP:

 Assembly
The PCBs will come with all SMD preassembled, including diodes. Switches and LEDs will require your own soldering. If you’re brave and want to do the SMD soldering yourself, PCB and a bag of SMT components will be cheaper. There will be options for assembly service if you cannot build it yourself.

That doesn't say if the SMD soldering is done by the factory or not though.

Ok then, maybe this quote is specific enough:

There are more DIY PCB kits ordered than I thought. I know price is attractive, but I want you to make sure you know exactly what you're getting into when getting a DIY kit. This is not your typical soldering of large through-hole switch pins. All the SMD components are provided, but you'll have to solder them on yourself. The pre-soldered boards have all the SMD done at the factory by a pick-and-place machine.

The project has been going well but since one of the leads went MIA its all been a bit in the air. I have no idea of what the time scale is for delivery? Unless I missed a post?

If you look at the scale of this project, places items come from, the amount of people who we are dependent on and those are doing it in their free time I'd say it's still on track mostly.
