Group buys just potentially got easier
« on: Tue, 30 October 2012, 16:50:40 »
Signature Plastics now has a custom order page where you can place orders for up to 50 sets of custom keys.

Here are the colors that they currently have available:

Pricing looks pretty reasonable I just need to ask and find out if you order 100 or more sets if it gets cheaper, but I'm already pretty sure the answer is yes.
They will have base sets of 54 keys, modifier sets of 33 keys, iso add-on, and 17 key tenkey add-on.

I assume "1st shot" would be the legend color and "2nd shot" would be the key color.

Stuff like tsangan kit will most likely need to be done separate still, but this greatly simplifies the orders. I wonder if this will start new group buys of "First 50 orders get a set". Let the fun begin.

Right so you still have to place a partial custom order for tsangan or if you want to have a dual color tenky, or "~`" through "Page Up" contrast stripe.

Pretty cool but wish they had included an alternate mod kit as well.

What would be an alternate mod kit? You can make the mod what ever you want. Or do you mean you will not have the "~`" and "|\" keys in the color you want?

Nice find.  Lame about tilde and backslash though.  An all WFK on BO set might be nice.

Even 10 sets seems reasonable...

I wonder how many people would be interested in a wfk on rdd base set to go with RA2.0 red/white mods.

Was thinking the exact same thing. I'd take one for sure.

With these price tiers, a lot of people get a chance to get 1 of the more rare sets once the right colors are available.

I'd like some Black on Light Grey (GCF ??) Modifiers.  These would look great with the Black on White base sets that SP already sell.

What colors were used for the graphite set and would anyone want a 10 key addon?

I just got a graphite set so I would love to have a tenkey to go with it. However graphite sets don't use the SP WYSE font it is something else, so a more traditional group buy, or at least requesting the alternate font would be required.

I also noticed pimpmykeyboard.com is under maintenance of some sort as well so maybe they will come back with something useful. They might have caught on that there is a little bit of a market for custom(novelty) keycaps.

Melissa is awesome. Not sure if anyone else messaged her but I mentioned that adding "~`" and "|\" to the base set, as well as 1.75x shift to the iso set would be awesome. I asked if she was interested in adding the tsangan kit and she just put it up :D
Going to make a couple more suggestions and see what pops up. Just awesome that more keys got added to the sets and prices didn't go up.

You sir are awesome.  Looks like she added tiers above 50 units as well.  $44 for a full TKL set at 250 units!

Nice!

Well thought out with good prices too (which should make things transparent...)

I wonder if they were fed up in leading buyers by the hand through the (quite involved) process.

This is really opening up a lot of options. I'm loving that they did this.

Personally I'd love to see WFK on GX. But then again, not everyone shares my taste.

Now someone needs to create a web page that lets you create mock ups from entering in the colors.

I think I'm going to start a VAT (toxic green) on GX (dark charcoal) GB soon. She said VAT is not available in large amounts and production would be 8-9 weeks so plenty of time for ordering and such. Anyone want to help me with mock ups sent me a PM

Well, I'm only a student. I used to have a little cash from working at KFC, but I got fired so I'm broke now. I wouldn't even be able to pay for my own set.

Perhaps in the future I'll make it happen.

What type of plastic do they use, PBT or ABS?

I'm interested in the Modifier set that they have listed.  I like a couple of the blue colors for keycap color with white text.  Anyone else interested in a group buy?

^They have both. I believe this page is for doubleshot ABS. If you're looking for PBT, you'll have to contact them.

PBT is only dye sub/pad printing etc. They got lots more expensive from SP, so I would recommend that you go to IMSTO/Qtan etc.

I wrote an email to someone at SP named Melissa.  She said they were exploring the idea of double shot PBT, but wanted to feel out the level of interest.  If any of you want this, I suggest that you all go to signature plastics and request that this take place.  And if anyone would like a group buy I would highly consider it.

Doubleshot PBT would probably be very popular.

Then again, SP PBt is already expensive as is. Im sure DS PBT would be significantly pricier.

So it may be a toss up.

I assume these are DCS profile, but I cannot find that specified anywhere.  Has someone heard definitively from Melissa which profile will be used?

DCS profile.  Everything from SP is DCS profile unless stated otherwise.

PBT doubleshots are the holy grail around here.  Assuming a reasonable price, they would sell like hotcakes.
