Where can I find an LP keyset?
« on: Tue, 04 November 2014, 19:52:51 »
I've been looking for some MX-compatible LP (Low-Profile) Family keycaps.

Even going as far as creating an ad on /r/mechMarket. No success.

How can I, as a single individual, buy an LP-Family keyset? I don't know where to go.

Thanks

Yeah, thanks for the reply.

In the time that I have been here, I don't think I have seen one GB in that profile.  They are usually DCS, DSA, SA, or GMK which is a different manufacturer.

While I don't believe it uses that exact family of keycaps, I believe the Cherry MX-Board 3.0 uses low-profile cylindrical caps (DSA are spherical).  May be worth looking further in to it.  I also know CPTBadAss has one and can perhaps offer some additional insight.  I do know that he is not a fan personally.

I asked Melissa from SP in August about if it was possible to do LP in MX mount (given that Devlin is apparently releasing low-profile caps soon).

However, she had this response:

"There was some discussion of this several years ago, but there wasn't enough interest in it to warrant tooling up for it. We also were not sure that it would look all that good because of the short profile of the keys and the long travel distance on the MX switch - keys would ride pretty high."

So sadly, or not sadly for most people, LP-family is not possible from SP. Now, like I said, Devlin is supposedly going to have their L-series caps for a full keyboard eventually. QWERkeys was going to help sell them, but now that they've kind of disappeared, I'm not sure how that's going to unfold.
