Here's something interesting I happened upon today:

http://10gui.com/

There is a concept video that is definitely worth a watch for input device enthusiasts or folks into UIs.

I've seen this before. It's definitely an interesting concept. if it actually becomes anything, I hope that you can use a normal keyboard with it.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but there is nothing you can currently do with one of these multi-touch surfaces that you couldn't do just as easily with a multi-buttoned mouse - and with better precision.

That video spoke of the benefits ("increased bandwidth") of using five fingers instead of one pointer, but didn't show much use of this alleged benefit.

One good example though is at 6:35 where they mention using two hands - one to drag a window while using the other to drag the application space. But the demonstration in the video wasn't too impressive, as they didn't really do both things at once.

This does look like a case of "We have this new technology, what can we do with it?" rather than "How can we improve the way we work, and what new technology should we invent to make it happen?" Not that that's a bad thing in itself, it's just not as ground-breaking as it sounds at first.

Perhaps not, but interface paradigms are a bit stale.

I really like this concept, kind of like the interface table they use on CSI Miami.  I think that the idea of using your hands to manipulate your work surface will become quite powerful.  Look at the iPhone and Apple products, and now the new tablet that Microsoft is introducing.  Everything is becoming more intimate, so to say.

For over 20 years everyone has been proclaiming the demise of the keyboard and mouse, but here we are still using the same basic layout and platforms.  Things will change, but I do not think things will get aggressive until something revolutionary is introduced.

Thanks for sharing this website............Later

If you use your hands to manipulate the computer with the screen, chances are you'll put fingerprints on it.

In 30 years' time we'll still be saying "Where's my flying car and my Minority Report style interface?"

Interesting video, but I didn't love the idea, I wouldn't like to get my hands all away from the keyboard neither that crappy window manager. But at least is different from the usual stupid multi touch on a giant screen.

If you'd like to try something different from the desktop paradigm to manage windows I'd recommend using a tilling window manager like awesome. It feels very efficient, no time wasted resizing windows and everything is done with the keyboard.

Looks like something with a lot of potential. The actual GUI is nothing special IMO. Content management has been done like that for a few years now.
