Welcome Space Cadet!
You are invited to the launch of a keycap set that was brought together by cosmic forces and a shared passion of the aesthetic of the limitless aether, for a peculiar community interested in the design of advanced instruments that are finely calibrated for optimal thocking (keebs).
Space exploration is the pinnacle of mankind’s scientific and technological innovation; however it often springs from a universal child-like curiosity of the unfathomable heavens.
This design aims to celebrate this playful spirit, whilst incorporating the intoxicating indigo hues of interstellar space dust. There is something eternally entrancing and enigmatic about the beauty of interstellar dust and nebulae, and we hope we have captured some of that magic in this set.
Your mission objective, if you choose to accept it, is to procure the modules that will enhance the specialised equipment at your command.

The Alphas are based off a sci-fi TV show from the 80s called V. It is the language of an invading alien race called the Visitors who are reptilian humanoids.
The Modifiers are a different language in fact, and are based off the classic games Commander Keen and Minecraft.
Although there are many Alien languages we researched to potentially pick from, we ultimately picked what complemented each other, and also would not lead to IP issues. We have checked that we can use both typefaces for commerical purposes.

The manufacturer Keyreative MOQ structure permits us to do so. As long as the overarching goal of the minimum number of keycap “units” sold for production is met, all kits will be made.
This approach should be applauded; giving those who enjoy using less popular layouts an opportunity to purchase a set for their favoured form. It also embraces the customizability spirit of this hobby, offering people their pick of legends for alphas and modifiers. So if you want your whole keyboard to be totally incomprehensible, that should be a readily obtainable goal.

From what I understand, reverse dye-subbing involves the base plastic colour (the legends) being dyed around the legend. If this was the case, how would you be able to produce all these multi-coloured legend keys with a single base plastic colour? It might be an oversight on my part, but I'm intrigued to see what you have done to hopefully resolve this issue. There are also some issues regarding to line thicknesses and gaps, but the glaring concern is that only a few of these keys will be able to be produced via reverse dye-subbing as it stands as you can't dyesub lighter colours than the base.

Hey! Love the idea of this set. I see that you'll be going with reverse dye-subbing with a lot of your keys, and was wondering how they'd be obtainable with a portion of your keys, the majority being in the Novelties Kit.Hi, co-designer of Space Dust here.
We made contact with Keyreative early on with renders of these novelties, and enquired about their feasibility and they said it should be doable.
Of course we will be double check technical limitations with them again, and try to aim to get earlier samples (if possible), to allay concerns.

I'm not sure if it's intentional or an oversight but the 'extended' mods offer black base with gradient labels in the 'alien' font, while the 60%-only mods only offer black base with icons. I would be in for 60% black base with the alien gradient labels but don't need a full TKL.

Ah yes, that's an oversight. Going by polling trends, black base modifiers are really popular, and we want to make sure we offer alien variants for those.

rework all ur kits , such an awfull work...Thanks for the feedback. Other helpful members have DM'd us with many other examples of issues with the legends. We'll attempt to rectify and update images. Rendering so many kits has led to a bunch of simple mistakes, such as forgetting to double check alignments etc.
We also plan to cull some kits that aren't polling so well, and add glaring forgotten ones (i.e. black background mods with alien legends for 60%). The feedback form has been very insightful!

Yeah, so, turns out, even though I put a decent number of hours into making this, it's still very broken, and there is a lot of refinement needed, I just thought that maybe I'd like to risk it and post an IC with what I have so far to gauge if this was really an idea worth pursuing, that being said, I had seen some previous "bad" ICs like GMK Holy Panda, and I did some more research, so, I am in no position to say that I am experienced in this field nor can I say that I can speak for every new designer, but I would like to say that Geek Hack, as it is, is one of the most dangerous and hostile places to showcase a design, albeit without it, keycap designing would not exist in the full volume that it does today, but I would seriously think about creating a way for "pre-IC" concepts to be posted on GH. I know that the mods and whoever manage this site have been plagued about this, but I just wanted to remind them, and I'm not telling you how to do your job, I just think that if GH were more concept friendly, this community could grow in an order of magnitude. As for the ISO, (the main point of this comment, haha) I will add a blue ISO enter as well, to both kits, I just personally really like the black ISO enter.

Ortho needs icon mods, they outsold ortho text in literally every KAT GB! Would love to see the ortho mods black base as well!Ortho kit is currently this (https://i.imgur.com/G6J3lJq.png) which has icon mods [kindly ignored scuffed alignment and sizing consistency issues of legends].
All in all a very confusing IC, quit trying to reinvent the wheel and look at how other successful KAT sets are doing their kitting.
We hear you about black base; that's ended up with lot more positive response than we thought... and now we have to take a good long hard look at what kits we keep, and/or tweak and what to throw out. Will honestly confess that the black base mods were added as an afterthought, as we were originally working with blue base mods as the core.
We will touch up our IC over the next few days, to make it a bit less confusing, and also cull a few of the unpopular options to make things a bit leaner.
We're not really reinventing the wheel. We used KAT refined's F-row split off idea, to split it from the standard mod kit.
We also made just a budget 60% only version of the mod variations (i.e. how KAT Cyberspace did a TKL-only kit - but he simplified by just making it one complete set with preset alphas).
All other kits are just standard based on KAT monochrome's kit structure.
However, we suffer from offering too many options at this stage given that we have both Alien and English alphas, multiple Mod legends options from Alien, Icon, Text, and two different Mod backgrounds (blue and black), and also sometimes offering mono-colours instead of gradient.
As we get further Gform feedback, we have a good idea of how to help slim things down, and potentially come up with executive decisions on what we will finally offer.

If you flip the numpad gradients from purple→cyan to cyan→purple, then you get a nice purple→cyan→purple gradient for 100% and 1800 boards and cyan→purple→cyan gradient for southpaw boards.

Love the colorway, especially the gradient aspect, and will be getting it, but the desk mat and the novelty keys that share those... graphics.. with the desk mat, are pretty lame. I'm not huge fan of the "cute" stuff, but they ca be done okay. That desk mat looks like a mess. It, and the some of the novelty keycaps, look like a 12 year old girl put a bunch of those cheep binder stickers that existed back when i was in middle school, all over the place.Appreciate the feedback. We deliberately went for a cuter childlike fun of space vibe. Might not be your thing, but it will be for some others. Some of the less well-executed novelties are going to be culled though.

We're mainly waiting on prototypes from the manu re: reverse multi-dyesub novelties to ensure our technical demands are met, hence partially why there's been some radio silence, as we don't want to move to GB and find out a lot of our novelties aren't going to work out.

I kinda love it I kinda hate it. I will also fill out the IC but as always with KAT I think the kitting is way overdone. I would say get rid of the mono kits. Get rid of the alien language mods. The real star here to me are the non standard mods and the bright colors. The colors are really great together but I just cant help but feel this should have been a deskmat GB first. See KAM 80s After Dark IC for a photo of the novelty spacebar prototype, to show that reverse dye sub can look fantastic.

So we will be making sure we have black modifiers Ergo kit. We will look to our SKU limit if it can also add a Black CMD kit for mac users if possible, but CMD kit is lower on the priority versus other kits we want black modifier variants for.

Does page 1 still reflect the current state of this set? (plus galileo numpad) There are so many options and have been so many changes mentioned I've lost track.No unfortunately our kits are not yet up to date on the front page (there's still a list of errors we're correcting). Sorry, we'll try and get to that soon. There's a lot of changes that are planned. We're in the middle of a big kitting revamp, as we're trying to make black modifier variants for kits that only has blue modifiers currently. That's why we had to cull all our 60% only mods to make way for that. That's also why we're culling our non-gradient kits (so don't expect any of the non-gradient numpad or f-row kits).
In regards to galileo numpad, we're going to be merging the planetary novelties, with the Alien gradient numpad (Asimov). Partly because we don't have enough novelties to completely fill out the whole numpad. We need symbols for Num lock, divide, times and minus, so we're thinking of using alien text, or custom icon symbols. They both also fulfill a similar niche.
Also re: numpad, expect the gradient colours to be flipped around, so it'll flow better on a 100% layout, left to right. Also since we're changing from R5-R4 top rows to R4-R4, we will be able to slim down the amount of duplicate nav keys we have in our kits.
We still have yet to add the accent gradient stand-alone kit, and novelties will come in either black modifier or blue modifier variants.
Iso-specific enter and left shift keys will be likely baked into their respective modifier kit, as it's currently a bit too messy keeping them separate/stand-alone.
We are also looking to make the Extra Gradient add-ons (Rainbow Barf) - “Spæther” alpha kits stand-alone alphas instead of add-ons.
Anyways, sorry for the lack of updates. Pseudo and I will be ramping up some more frequent updates over the next month to get this IC up to scratch.

- Also wondering if we should use space terms for 'Up', 'down' 'left' 'right' etc. instead, or keep as is as obvious text, or potentially just make them icon legends. If yes to space terms, any alternative suggestions? (Roll, pitch and yaw only cover 3; and I ran out of ideas when considering other terms like apex, desc)
F-row kit (R4)
- second row of additional keys accounts for compressed F-row in 75% layouts, F13 layouts, and is colourway compatible with replacing the num-row keys on 60/65% layouts (I know many would love to use the planet kit on their smaller boards)
- the third row of purple keys is a bit extraneous, but essentially provides an alternative option of making the f-row have three blocks of colours, versus a continuous gradient like the alphas. You might also perhaps use them for a 4 x 1u column of single coloured planet keys.

Currently debating if the 1u column keys should be row R4-R4-R3-R2-R1 or R4-R3-R2-R1-R1. Any suggestions?
We're still working on the best stripe pattern to use too; and if it's possible to also reduce the space it takes and offer it to split users.
If so, we'd aim for it to go on a 2.25c and a 3c spacebar key.
But perhaps it might be more cost-effective to keep in the main spacebar kit, instead of duplicating the blank 1c, 1.25c, 2.75c and 3c spacebars again in the gradient accent kit.

Standard TEXT Modifiers for 60%-100%:
Expect some changes to the terminology, such as replacing UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT with space terms, such as Apex, Roll, Pitch, Yaw.
Considering red accent EMERGENCY enter button too as a fun Among Us reference. Unsure if this should be included in standard modifiers, or go to novelty kit for other modifier users to also enjoy. Note, there will be a DON'T PANIC red accent enter in the novelty kit too.

Does anyone interested in this set actually use 6u (centered or off-centered) spacebar? Speak now, or forever hold your peace, as it may potentially be cut.
Our own internal discord server polling shows absolute ZERO interest. I haven't met or talk to one person yet who uses a 6u spacebar, and thus I'm fond of phasing it out from kitting.
French kit users: Do you guys use AZERTY or BEPO? KAT Napoleonic GB sales shows BEPO being more popular thus I'm considering switching from AZERTY to BEPO, as I suspect the latter might be more popular within the hobby itself, despite it not being as widely adopted as AZERTY in general.

Are there any renders for Ergo? I can't seem to find any.Sorry, we haven't yet mocked up any renders for Ergo. We've only just finalised/reworked the Ergo kit composition, so it's just a KLE skeleton. We'll try to shift it towards at least AI images of the actual legends and novelties, then get the kit rendered as soon as we can. I can't promise we we will get an ergo board rendered as it is currently not a priority as we're going to have re-render a lot of boards in more popular layouts first. We'll see how we go for time.

The manufacturer Keyreative has done samples for Swishy's set KAM 80s After Dark which clearly show that reverse dyesub with multiple colours is something they can execute.

So it's April already (damn that went by quick) and things ended up taking a bit longer than planned, but regardless we have made solid progress, and have finalised the final few kits (namely novelties).
Note the majority of kits were submitted in late March, and we're still awaiting for prices for those from the manufacturer. So depending on how quick quotes come back, it's either a late April, or May GB date. All vendors are confirmed, and we're just waiting.
We're refining renders, and currently slowly converting the kit images to renders, for the purposes of having prettier pics for groupbuy.

Novelties was a long process that's taken us many long stops and starts, but there was a creative burst of energy last month in further concepts/designs that we had to put in a second novelties kit . Given there's no guarantee (or timeline) of R2, we want this to be a set ppl can change up in multiple ways for multiple layouts.
I like the design on this a lot, the gradient looks great.Yes, it was intentional. We wanted a range to imply a diversity of alien languages, and also the fact that some language systems may not conventionally be consistent like English. Even languages like Japanese have 3 writing systems. Also aesthetically, one shone better as large centered single legends on Alpha keycaps, another looked better as multiple as a word Text modifiers, and another suited a numeric nature more.
I really like the idea of building a complete alien keyboard with this. I think the alien "languages" on the various kits look very different though, not like they'd belong to the same language. Is that intentional?
Apologies if I missed it mentioned in the thread somewhere, what is the ballpark fulfillment time for KAT set like this? I know SP has their SA profile caps queued for more than a year out, GMK looks like just under a year most kits, ePBT about 6 months? Where does KAT profile get made?Hi, sorry I'm not exactly sure the ballpark as these things can change depending on production lines. Best to look at current/recent KAT/KAM sets that are shipping, and the time that their GB ended. There is a zFrontier blog post from Keyreative about increasing their production capacity in 2021, but we'll have to see if that ends up being true. It would be best to have conservative expectations along the line of GMK.
Kinda sad to see the Asimov numpad (alien gradient) and Aurora F-row kits being removed as those where part of my favorites i guess spectra is close to Aurora but nothing replaces the Asimov kit, making a full-size alien board not possibleI'm so sorry, we had to make some hard decisions when it came to kit numbers being as they were trying to maximise compatibility as well. If we ever become fortunate enough to run a R2 (who knows), I would like to make an alien numpad a reality

Omg you did it, the nebula style deskmat! The aero-sol looks so sick! I haven't checked this for a while and I come back to find the nebula that I asked for lol. Amazing.
Literally this set has too many options that I cannot decide! This is probably the hardest keyset to decide upon, so many good options. I might have to buy a lot of the extras in this set. Funny cause I've decided that I will buy most of the extras from KAT Great Wave too, the gradient in both these two sets are just magnificent - think they will look so good on a 96% keyboard!

Maybe I'm missing something (and getting an extra key is far from a problem) but it looks like there is a slightly unaligned "; ," key and then another "; ," key aligned to the ": ." key that follows.
BTW: Amazing set. My biggest problem is going to be deciding which kits fit in my budget (I want them all!!!! And all the artisans!!)

Lol, just in case I just checked that there was a Z in the SIRIUS / Spanish layout, and we have all the letters... in fact, isn't there an extra "; ," key next to the M?#$Pain You're correct. Not sure how made these mistakes converting to 3D renders. But the production file (2D) doesn't have these errors and are center aligned using illustrator so there shouldn't be alignment issues.

Sorry, we simply didn't have time to think of another one as good as the balloon astronaut in the novelty β kits, didn't want to duplicate it, and given the size of the kits, a decision was made to trim in certain areas where possible :S feelsbadspaceman
Holy cow this is gonna be expensive (because I'm gonna buy so many kits).No problems! It was a bit of a mind bend trying to cater for Colemak+ and its variations for the gradient pattern, but hopefully it makes this extremely peculiar and adventurous group happy haha.

There are 3 "Ç" when only one on size 1U is needed on R2 (the one in R2 for example. The R3 1,5U and R4 are no needed).
There are 3 times now "´¨" (right accent and dieresis). only one size 1U is needed. (the one in R2 for example)

I’m surprised about the missing keys ("`^", "+*"), because I’m pretty sure that they were there when I posted my comment on Thursday!! (Either that, or I suck at comparing my keyboard with the render!). I get the feeling that something happened when recreating the render, and that the two keys next to the P are currently wrong (and should be the missing ones).

Ah I see. Wouldn't have minded if you had just put the same balloon astronaut in the Space Debris novelty set since it does have some similar astronaut keys anyway! I think I'll be getting the Space Debris novelty set cause I like the space bar in it but it just means I won't be getting novelty ISO enter key unfortunately :'( This is one of the only sets where I will be getting the additional UK set for the ISO layout keys, since it is all separated nicely from the other international sets.
Just realised that with the Space Debris there is no space cats, so getting the Thok Space Kat would look random without that particular novelty set but oh well, the Thok Space Kat looks too good to pass up!

I just want to say that your set is amazing and I was really ready to buy a lot of sets to get the perfect keyboard in an iso french layout, really hard to find (especially the nouvel one). But finally I admitted it's really not possible for one reason : the third character is not present on numeric keys : the problem is that thoses characters are not much used (but are used anyway), so when you need it you really have to look at your keyboard to find them. So with this set it makes it difficult to be fast and I'm pretty sure it's impossible to remember the place of keys just a bit used. And it makes me sad !

Hello,I'm sorry that the lack of third character makes the layouts hard to use! Having centered legends for keys makes it unfortunately not ideal to fit in a third character. I didn't really think this would be too problematic. Thinking forward, perhaps one way around this is perhaps considering front face legends on keycaps, but that's not a great solution either (nor is it something we can do for this GB at this stage at last notice).

Sorry, should've worded that better. I was referring to the 1u delete key (I assume that's what it is) and arrow keys in the icon mods, which aren't there in the text mods, but I guess you're just using the text for all of those. Carry on.

It seems we made multiple mistakes transcribing from a production vector file to renders, that we've been cleaning up. Sorry, we've been a bit sloppy with the conversion. Many thanks for the keen eyes who have noticed these discrepancies. Will happily address any further issues noticed.

The F-row set with planet novelties had a title name change from Satellites to Planets and I forgot to let some of the vendors know (that's my mistake). Rest assured they are both the same kit.

Couldn't have done the headache inducing kitting without substantial previous groundwork foundation by konstantin, nopunin10did, and topped off with Dr Higsby and Matt helping with the smaller layouts. Trying to figuring out the jigsaw puzzle for each kit to maintain the gradient in various settings was done to the best of my ability, and I hope I've made as many ppl happy as possible with it. I'm sorry if I didn't make it happen to work for your specific layout. Any mistakes here are solely mine, and am prepared to re-configure the production file (rasterised version; https://imgur.com/a/2KXgXqF) if there's any major errors that remain that I'm not aware about (I'm pretty confident though at this stage given multiple revisions).

Thank you all for giving me that little bit of joy one gets where they find a set that not only sets their imagination ablaze, but also KAT, PBT, and available right now. This is going to set my silver aluminum base alight with eye candy.
This is some serendipitous stuff. I've been wanting a slightly "different" set, dark-themed but colorful, and in PBT instead of ABS. I'm getting the english alphas, gradient pack for the spacebar and 4 function buttons, and both the alien and icon mods. I've already got a cnc cut anodized red aluminum escape key in OEM format that will look amazing with this.

I'm sorry I'm posting this here instead of the GB post thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=113012 is still pending mod approval), but I wanted to officially announce we've past MOQ (minmum order quantity, where a 7u spacebar = 7 units)!

In regards to estimated delivery date/time, no-one's exactly sure: to be transparent, the manufacturer Keyreative gave us an estimate of 8-10 months, and zFrontier is in direct contact with their team and they've set their date a lot earlier, but based on previous timelines of other sets, most vendors (and us the designers) are reluctant to change conservative estimates unless there's clear evidence they've increased their production capacity/speed. Believe us, we all want nothing more than this set to get into people's hands sooner, but we're not a manufacturer, and we simply have to join the production queue behind existing sets that are still being manufactured. A combination of COVID and significant rise in demand has led to wide-ranging delays across most popular manufacturer/profiles (GMK, Signature Plastics SA, and KAT/KAM) taking around 12 months which obviously sucks.
Earlier in the year, Keyreative did promise installing new machines to increase their capacity/speed (like GMK), but we will have to see if this results in faster turnaround. We're hopeful that it does get delivered earlier, but the vendors are trying to not overpromise on delivery dates and set false expectations so they've set dates further out. It is better that people are prepared mentally for the long purchase period wait. I've personally been waiting for other KAT, GMK, and SA sets that all have been taking their sweet time being made.
Unfortunately the groupbuy model isn't the best, but unless you have the leverage of Drop/Mitos, smaller time vendors/designers don't have the capital leverage to provide instock keycap sales. Though there has been a recent attempt and shift in this area with some other vendors offering in stock PBT keycap sets. There isn't really a great system of addressing the MOQ system demanded by manufacturers. Sets aren't always guaranteed to be successful too with recent examples of GMK Alchemy and ePBT Pomelo groupbuys being recently cancelled. It's idealistic, but more sets made in other manufacturers (existing or new ones) may address this uncomfortably long gap in waiting times, however people are reluctant to try new manufacturers too. I totally understand reluctance with participating in a groupbuy model and having to wait ages for it as a fellow consumer, however the prices to obtain instock purchases for extras when they arrive, or aftermarket prices isn't something that's pleasant to stomache, and can be quite difficult to do if there are limited numbers of extras in the kits you want (Demand > supply). Ultimately, in the current market, you either pay less money and wait a long time, or you pay lots and lots more money to obtain something that is in-stock and potentially will go OOS rapidly (it's a dog's race trying to get extras on popular sets).

I rarely buy sets but this one caught my eye a while back, so glad its ready to move forward. But boardsource website SMH, def not a great exerience trying to look at and add kits. GLWS

In precursor and supernova, the shift keys should be R1 instead of R2 or i'm missing something ?There was a row labelling error in some of the image assets we send to vendors initially, this has now been corrected.

As mentioned we have attained MOQ, and we're super appreciative for all the kind words and support thus far for our unconventional set. We have a bit too many kits (34 in total) but we didn't want to compromise on compatibility/ and legend options for those with varying preferences from simple to wild, so a huge shout out to the vendors for making an exception for this set to have this much variety.
