Title: Plate for a G80-1800
Post by: . on Sat, 23 June 2018, 11:34:29
Ever since building my G80-1800 with the replacement PCB from hineybush I've been looking for a plate for this thing. TheKeyCompany sells plates for their TKC-1800, so I contacted them to ask them if they want to send their design file to me, but they wouldn't because of obvious reasons. I did find someone else selling plates but those had support for switch-top removal, which I don't like and the plate was pretty ugly in my opinion. So I made my own which I want to release publicly for everyone and I am about to order one from laserboost. However, I want to hear your opinions and suggestions first. I'll make one with the ISO enter key as well if the design is good.

Here's the plate design:

Like every other plate for this keyboard, it needs some modifications of the case.

It should support these layouts when it's all done:

Cool :)
If you put in split keys I think you should also allow split enter on numpad

I really don't see the point of doing that and I have not seen a keyboard with a split numpad enter either.. Would you be using that?

It's an option on Leeku's compact 1800 pcb but I agree it's a strange one and don't see what key would go there, it's the only splittable key on the board I've not got split!

That said it's not hard so why not...

The switch will sit tighter if it only supports one position  ;)

I think I would use it because I like colon and dot on separate keys.
But I know there is not much appeal to most people so maybe leave it out if you will open source the plate anyway.

I've changed a whole lot of stuff and designed a PCB to go with the plate, which I'll order and make available for everyone to order and assemble themselves, like the GH80-3000. Here is the current design of the plate:

I'll design one for ISO users as well to release together with the PCB.
