Kura is my love letter to the springtime, when the cherry blossoms bloom back home in Korea.

The set utilises stock GMK colours, with the classic beige L9 and not-often-seen 3C.

While I did my best to represent colours accurately in my renders, it's basically impossible. For the closest approximation of real-world colour, please refer to these colour swatches.

Just a heads up, you can't kit out Whimsey with your set (needs a 1.25u r3 enter), and your 1.75u backspace should be r2, while your 1.25u tab should be r3.

Thank you for catching that! I'll switch it out for a different board. I just really like seeing mono sets on 40s so I added it without much thought. ;D

I agree! I would really love to make a cherry blossom novelty (that doesn't look like the one that comes with AliExpress sets lol) or a metal artisan, but I left it out for now until I am 100% sure I can make one with whichever manufacturer the set (hopefully) runs with.

Very nice pairing with stock colors! Please add a 1u R3 pipe key to both bases and the Hangul kit, and an R2 Esc to the 40's addon for better compatibility :thumb: Could the 40's mods be icon-only instead of icon+text to match the regular modifiers?

A lot of changes!
  • no separate novelties kit, but included novelties in basekit! aren't they cute?
  • numpad has been moved to a childkit
  • saku hangul kit has been added
  • 3key 40s support has been changed to only icon!

I hope you guys are just as excited about this set as I am!

Another 1.5U Super would be useful (and another 1U Alt too).

It is UK ISO but there is a "spare" R4 <> Key there that could either be removed or add an R3 pipe (|\) key could be added for intl use.

2 base kits, 2 child alt alpha kits, and a numpad kit with GMK. Seems a bit risky in the current environment.

I'd recommend just pushing the alt alphas into base (just use the sublegends) and then either have the novelties be the child kit or the numpad, your choice. Those alt alpha kits will be egregiously expensive for the number of keys offered.

those huge base kits lack basic portions of an actual base kit while incorporating tons of extra stuff that that will needlessly drive the price up for the average user.

what should be added:
- numpad
- r3 1u pipeslash

what can be dropped entirely:
- uk iso
- r3 pgup/r4 pgdn
- r1 1u backspace
- r4 1u pipeslash

what should stay in a child kit:
- novelties
- true hhkb support (6u + 1.5u supers) + 40s support

again, renders look like WS4 more than L9, consider WS4

Thank you for those notes on kitting, I'll be adding a second 1.5u Super and an R3 1U pipe.

Including a couple novelties in basekits is a norm these days and I don't intend on disappointing anyone or upcharging for the cute little illustrations that I've already made and want to share.

On your final note, I have colour samples in hand and am set on L9 and 3C. WS24 is way too bright for the muted colour profile I'm going for.

I was suggesting WS4 not 24.

WS4 is no longer was never a stock GMK color, it's their match of SP's WCK. WS24 is a relatively new GMK color. Below is a photo from Novelkeys' website. They are currently selling both ABS and PBT color sample kits - https://novelkeys.com/collections/supplies/products/gmk-color-samples

My understanding is:
   WS24 and SW1 are new.
   P3, MG2, and GR9 are discontinued.
   WS4 is a match of SP's WCK.

EDIT: revised details of WS4. Perhaps GMK still uses it, but it is not in their official sample kit.

FYI: The 4-key 40s Support in the Extension Kit is wrong, the 1.75U Backspace should be R2 and the 1.25U Tab should be R3. I also suggest putting Unit size labels on every key over 1U to make it easier for people to understand.

Cute set, btw

I'm surprised you're the first to ask this here, so here's the explanation: the word for cherry blossoms in Korean is 벚꽃 (pronounced but-ggot), a shortened version of the name of the fruit, which we used to call 버찌 (buh-jji). Now we just call the fruit 체리 like the rest of the world, but we kept the old word for cherry blossoms.

I don't know about you but calling a set GMK Butt doesn't sound as appealing to me haha.

Glad G-Tour found the Minivan fixes.
I'd ask for 1 more 1u Alt to support that 1.5U Super though :)

I know it's pretty late to implement changes, but here are some of my thoughts/suggestions:

Base Kit
- Since you're including the bottom row 1u flower icon novelty into base kit, you might as well do the same for the 1.25u 'Super' keys so the novelties on bot row in base kit are inclusive for the majority of users (similar to GMK Dandy). Cull the 1u and 1.25u 'super' keys is what I would choose to do instead, if you're not going to put those bot row novelties into the extension kit.
- Move the R1 accent flower novelty from the extension kit to base. You've already cut the numpad out of base, so 1 extra 1u key shouldn't hurt overall cost too much and make the base kit more appealing. I don't want to buy the extension kit to get an accent esc novelty key. If you had to sacrifice or swap it to the extension, consider F13.
- If you can, 1 extra R4 Alt 1u key would be nice for HHKB compatibility, but they can substitute those 1u alts with the novelty keys if necessary.

Extension Kit
- Consider adding 1u R2, R3 novelty to the extension kit to cover the navkeys as well. It would function as a novelties extension kit for 65/75% users, and add extra interest into it.
- If I was a 40s user (I'm not), I would prefer an accent colour R2 esc key instead
- If I was a 40s user (I'm not), I would appreciate a R2 accent flower novelty over the Esc key but I have a strong preference/bias towards novelties vs standard legends for Esc keys.
- I believe the 1.75u backspace on R3 is misplaced and should be on R2 instead?
- The accent novelty enter in the Extension looks great but super-detailed. It does not look within doubleshot tolerances. Of course UV-printed is an option...

I do agree that Kura is way easier to remember, but 'Beotkkot' wouldn't really make me thing of 'Butt'.
It does feel odd to see Hangul sublegends only with a JP name, but yeah cherry blossoms aren't a Japan only thing. Maybe if you had made the base kit with hiragana sublegends (I know it's a contentious decision for those who prefer latin only for a more minimal aesthetic), it would match more thematically.
I wish you the best with the upcoming GB!
I'll be interested in seeing how this set goes given that you've decided to go with GMK in the current market, with the decision to cut numpad out of base kit to reduce its base kit price, whilst also separating the Hangul sublegend alphas.

Hey, if you've got notes I'm open to feedback! Your message doesn't make it seem like you're genuinely open to learning, but I can give a short explanation anyhow for people who are.

Vendors are more risk-averse in the post-exitscam world so increases in pricing is kind of a pill we all have to swallow, as well as other price increases following COL increases worldwide. I'm assuming your sense of what fair pricing is is coming from recent developments like Geon's work. His GMK sets should be seen as an exception, not an expectation. He's doing magic with his pricing because he can personally afford it and he has the reach to pull the MOQ numbers he needs for it. I'm not Geon.

The previously posted pricing has been taken down as I continue speaking with vendors, but I'm having a hard time trying to put myself in your shoes where a $99 TKL kit is bad pricing.

If anything it was too aggressive; GMK 9009 R3, which had a similar kit but with a much larger MOQ (I think they ended up at around 1600 units?) was also $99. Kura is a new colourway and no vendor really knows how it'll do besides the IC form numbers. They're taking on a risk to bring a set I designed to the market, which I appreciate and I will not be fighting back on pricing increases to lift some risk off their shoulders.

I do agree that Kura is way easier to remember, but 'Beotkkot' wouldn't really make me thing of 'Butt'.

Hey, thank you for the note! I've been revisiting the name as it seems to have become a weird unintended point of contention for a lot of folks. Kura will most likely run with a different, more Korean name which I'm still working on. I'll keep this post updated as I progress!
