Looks nice. What’s the weight?
How is the white anodizing made?
Looks good, though I would prefer more of a silver colored screw in the weight. The black just stands out so much and almost looks too big for where it is, appears to stick further out than the plate, meaning the board would rest on the screws first?

I get using bumpons to elevate it, or protect the bottom, but I would imagine the board should be able to lay flat without needing an extra purchase.
Silver white is just matte silver ano, which looks more white than glossy silver. Prototype is this color.
Yeah, I’m assuming he meant Silver, not White due to the anode examples on the form.
This looks nice. I liked the first version, but...
Anyway, did you build it yet to insure there are no clearence issues on the inside?
-What kind of PCB will it come with? (Included in base price, correct?)
-Can you show how thick the weight is?
-How tall is it from the front?
Sorry for all the questions, I was just curious! :)
Edit: The more I look at the sample pictures, the more I want it. It’s really nice.
Really interested in this, didn’t know it was coming so soon dammit.
Wouldn’t mind some more details and pics of the inside etc. :thumb:

I haven't got the time to assemble it but all the parts fits perfectly as far as I can see.
PCB was provided by another team. It can be programmed with bootmapper client.
Weight is about 6mm thick.
2cm tall.
Oh snap. Do you think someone could rig a diffuser and rgb strip for the top area (line and MARS logo)? Would be amazing, just saying.

Thanks for answering questions. Very helpful :thumb:
Thanks Sylvester! I’m loving it so far, thanks for offering so many colors too! Silver White looks really good.
Any chance this is compatible with the TX87 PCB too? (Just curious).
I’m okay with Bootmapper. It’s easy to use. :thumb:

^ An rgb pulse from left to right would look stellar.
Also, plate options - is polycarb possible? Only alu and brass plates is quite a dealbreaker when it’s all about that typing experience.

Most people saying this just want a case replacement, not a fully custom board.

I don't know if it could be an issue but wouldn't it be safer to make those connection parts a bit wider? Like this for example: https://i.imgur.com/3JfcD5T.jpg

"So recently I've ordered a custom of every size I use... except TKL... I wonder when that Mars board will go to GB?"
^Me earlier this morning.
That silver ano looks so clean!
Are you going to be getting more color samples on actual board parts?
I'm trying to imagine what a purple front accessory would look with a black plate and a silver case ;)
You have the option to buy an extra brass front accessory, but would it be possible to, say, buy an extra aluminum one in a different color?
I really would love to have a purple, and a black or red.
Can they be swapped with the PCB in place?

Will you be able to build the sample before the group buy ends, and take pictures of it with keycaps on? ;D
The anodizing looks amazing, I love it. My only question though are the specs of the PCB included in the kit. Does it support SMD LED's? North or south facing support? Thanks for the response in advance.
Is it possible to change my order colors?

The current case design doesn't support middle diffusers because the seam between two parts are is not all flat.
I'm modifying the design to make it support mid diffusers. However I'm not able to make samples because of the Chinese New Year.
What's for sure is the final case will support mid diffusers and I'll at least provide the files to make them.
It's also possible I'll provide the diffusers to those who joined GB.

What do you mean by connection parts?
I meant the parts of the plate where the screws go through to screw the plate to the top case. Sorry, don’t know what they are called :))
As I look in more and more for this page, I am not quite sure about this GB. When I read this post, GB page isn't that different from IC. I think it is wise to do GB after Chinese spring holidays with enough samples and consider about these demands. But at this point with these uncertain status I don't feel like joining.
South facing LEDs.

South facing LEDs.
Will it come with south facing LEDs by default?
Can we also install in-switch LEDs with sip sockets?
What software is used to program the firmware? QMK?
Will the middle diffuser be optional or a default inclusion?
An anodized strip to match the front accessory would be cool for those of us who don't care for LED stuff :o
Also: Did you get my PM? I just want to make sure my request was alright.

THe diffusers are optional. You can choose either install it or not. It will be included anyway.
Very interested to see what this looks like built with caps. Wonder how deep the caps sit and how tight the bezels are to the caps.
Do the PCB and plate support alps/matias switches?

Nope.
Any chance of offering assembly service? (I'm guessing no but worth a shot)
Could you give anymore details on PCB? You said it's a previously used mature PCB, but other than that nothing specific..
Sounds like buying a 2nd PCB would be a good idea if it's non-standard/not readily available (from say winkeyless/etc)

Update:
The middle diffuser has been ordered. I'm expecting to receive the PCBs and the diffuser prototype this week. I'll update with photos by then.

Here are some pics of Mars 8.0 with keycaps. I don't have a keyset to pair the white case so these pics are more for testing the dimension. Everything fits well as expected.
The PCBs are working perfectly.
The diffuser prototype needs some modifications. It's a easy modification so I'll just place the order for all the diffusers.
Production will begin soontm :)
OK. We're expecting to finish the production around the end of this month or early next month.
GB form re-opens one day for those who were hesitated to join and just get confidence from this update.

Whoa, that looks good! Do you have any more pictures? I'd love to see a top/front view like when you are typing on it, a side view, and an view from the top left to see better how the high profile caps look on the board.
There is one PCB included by default without needing to check "additional PCB" in the GB form, right?
Just placed an order. The fact that you re-opened it was a sign.

Hey, weird one. Can you provide a #hex code for the red that's being used? Trying to match it.
since it's anodized you're better off getting it matched after it shows up

There might be a little delay. I really hope I can stick to the original timeline so I'm pushing the factory to hurry up. Even it will be delayed, it won't be long. There will be a major update about the current status in several days. I will get some photos from the factory and have a new estimation of shipping date.
Another thing I'm really curious about (though I don't know if you want to talk about it): Do you mind sharing how many orders you got? For me it's only about knowing whether I'm one of 30 or one of 300, kinda like estimating how often I'll meet that board in future.
any chance we could see how the black turned out? I know a lot of people ordered itIm curious about the silver as well. It's quite a hard color to get right.

I'm no expert, but you can change the lighting in Bootmapper without much trouble. See if you still have an issue after that?
As suspected, I've checked it with Bootmapper client that LED doesn't change the same color when I change color profiles. Sometimes it is just dead especially the color that I wanted which is Green.I'd guess the led is dead... or at least the green part of the led.
The LED is probably dead and you may need to solder a new one

It seems like one pin of the LED has a contact problem. Could you try to re-solder all the 4 pins of the LED and see if it can fix the problem?
4 buyers who bought 86 keys layout will get new PCBs: sykim0310, Vewy_nice, hachi8free, tlautrec
Adding more solders on the 4 pins of the LED should fix 90% LED issues. Let me know if the LED doesn't work anyway.
The PCB supplier is the guy who provided PCBs for most Chinese custom keyboards. I didn't expect he would make such mistakes.
First impression was I thought it looked more grey IRL than I was expecting. I think these photos make it appear lighter than it is. I was worried I accidentally received grey but this is probably silver / white.

My smd leds work, but the board constantly disconnects/reconnects. Can't stay connected long enough to get bootmapper client to let me program.

I am having the same issue that one other person reported, my keyboard worked just fine at my friends house. Now I'm at home and I can't keep it connected long enough. I'm not sure whats going on with it.

Could you try to use another cable or test on another computer? The PCB should work on your computer if it worked on your friend's. The bottom RGB LEDs have great power consumption so don't plug the keyboard to the hub. Plug it directly to the embedded USB ports on your computer.
Tried to resolder the LEDs but I cant get them to work and my multimeter is showing a solid connection. Some LED's end up turning on when I touch the multimeter or soldering iron to them, but I am too lazy to figure out what is wrong. The main issue I have is that the screws/tapped holes for the screws between top/bottom case won't let me tighten the top case to the bottom without the acrylic midsection. Either the holes were tapped too short, the screws are too long, or there is too much crap in the hole (which I doubt because I blew them out with compressed air). I'd be happy to buy another PCB off of you Sylvester if you can show the LED's before you ship it out, otherwise I'm a bit dissapointed with the worksmanship if my board. Gonna have to buy some new screws soon or retap the holes, which I don't think should be an issue on a delivered board.

Those "easy-out" things are hard as frig to use, especially on small screws and bolts.Yeah it's kinda completely rounded.I'll probably resort to drilling the screw and hammering a torx head in or something.
Is it COMPLETELY rounded?
Sometimes I find that you can fit a Torx driver of a slightly larger size into stripped hex bolts and it'll grip like mad, especially if you force it down into the root of the socket.
See if you can find a left handed drill bit of the appropriate size. Sometimes when you're trying to drill the head off, it'll just magically back the screw out for you!Hm i haven't seen the second method used but it sounds like it'd get the job done.So i basically just drill the top of the screw off? Won't that risk damaging the inner thread though?
Also, another option is to get a bit that's slightly bigger than the threads of the screw, and drill the head off, so you're left with just a "stud" with threads left. Then lift the back case off, and grip the stem with pliers, and twist them out that way!
If you don't feel comfortable fixing it, I know it'd be expensive, but I do a lot of really small, delicate work, and I have a really nice drill press. I could do it for you. (Wrap that sucker in high-density foam and lots of tape to protect that beautiful finish, whatever you do!)
Maybe you're nearby, who knows.
Damn I missed this =/ Anyone know of any other similar WKL keyboards on GBs?
What type of screws are holding the case together? I can barely tell what I'm looking at here. Are these allen key? I feel like I may have stripped one but I also feel like I can't tell what screw head these are either. Also feel like it takes a lot to squeeze the case actually closed. They are m2.5 x 8
Someone said M2 earlier. I'll have to grab a proper set.

Today a new pcb arrived.
This pcb still doesn't fit into my top case.
1. There is no stab hole.
2. The left window key switch hole is incorrect.
Do I have to wait for another 2 weeks and get a new pcb?
Or do I need to get a refund?

Did anyone get any replies/news re: the new pcb? :(
I am unsure what rev. PCB I received, but mine has stabilizer holes.
I haven't yet started assembling yet, so I don't know if it's the most recent or not.
Yeah that's what I'm talking about.
I got 2 PCB's, the original one that didn't work with my case layout, and a second one that has stab holes, but I haven't checked if it lines up with the layout properly yet (Desk is messy, too many other projects!)
I am also waiting on the last of the 3 MARS accent inserts I ordered... Since my original package was missing 2, and the second PCB came with 2 others, but one of them was the wrong color, and machined wrong!
Guys i kinda ****ed something up on bootmapper and wiped the whole layout. Can someone please take a pic of the layout (wkl) so i can remap it by hand?
Thank you but i fixed it last night.Apparently if you set it into bootloader mode and hit a key it will show you the corresponding position.Guys i kinda ****ed something up on bootmapper and wiped the whole layout. Can someone please take a pic of the layout (wkl) so i can remap it by hand?
There you go.
Only difference to stock layout: I have FN on rctl instead of ralt, due to needing altgr for german layout.
Is there any way to get one of these? Or am i SOL
Hey guys, Sylvester didn't get back to me about the extra accessories yet so im gonna ask here.If anyone gas any extras they want to sell(pcb, plate etc) please let me know.
I'm quite worried as well, my keyboard hasn't been sent at all. Shipping label created on April 20th, but no updates on the tracking and DHL told me they never received it.

Alright, been in contact with Sylvester and turns out the DHL proxy lost it, but now the factory's made up a replacement and it's on the way so everything's good.
Anyone know how to reflash the pcb and put it into bootloader mode? I accidentallyPress either U or Ctrl+U while plugging it in,that should set it on the bootloader mode
had a couple keys pressed when connecting it in.

Should have posted this earlier, black/brass looks great. Seems very high quality, can't tell much until I build it though.
But at first sight and while handling it looks and feels amazing.
The more time I spend looking around at some other boards of this quality, the more I realize how reasonable the pricing actually was as well. Then again, I had to ruin the low price point by going and upgrading the entire thing to brass

Does anyone know what the "pen" like thing is that came with the keyboard? I thought it was a pen until I realized that it was solid with no way that I can see to open it.
Would it be possible for you to share the files for the diffuser? Mine has broken so I'd love to get another cut.
