The time has come. I’ve revamped the design (SNACCBOX v2) so it is more cost-effective for the end-user. I’ve also managed to find a factory that will run a MoQ of 20, so we ready to go!

Just in the middle of talks with my manufacturer on this.. Somewhere ballpark $165, we are looking at ways to make it a bit cheaper, however the intent is to keep it with a premium look and feel.

Magnets will be strong earth magnets and will be adjusted based on prototype results to ensure lid stays closed upside down. Holes for caps should be shallow enough to remove without a tool, but without letting them flip and fall out of the holes.

D'oh my mistake. I thought that indent was for the optional engraving, but then I saw the actual engraving in the same picture. I am not a smart man.

Machinist is just getting the bits back together to extend the working surface so we can keep the case the size it is.. I'm getting daily updates from him so hopefully we can get started on actual machining later this week..

Sorry for the delay in response, was out on vacation for a bit there.
Talked to my manu on Tuesday, he had to make an additional repair to the Tormach to maintain a 12' X axis travel to fit the case. He was supposed to complete the repairs yesterday. I will respond again as soon as i have the details. Sorry for the lengthy proto period here. My manufacturer is working hard to get the machine set up to tackle this project effectively.

Quick update! The machinist (Brad) finalized some extensions to his Y-axis travel over the weekend. He's been running test parts the last 2 days to ensure fixes will hold and are good-to-go. He informed me he should be good to start cutting proto pieces tomorrow after work! Woop. I am hoping to get through a pretty quick turnaround and GB taking orders phase so we can get right into production and have these out to buyers before the big meetups this summer. (And so yuppie can fill it with his overflowing amount of bots).
I will be checking for a couple things with the proto:
1) Fit of all pieces together, and acrylic window
2) Ease of removal of the top
3) Size of slots to ensure most of the taller artisans fit, without making it impossible to remove them.
4) Usefulness of a proposed angled weight - working on this design now. Stay tuned. I'd like to offer this as an add-on if you want to angle it say at a 5% or something for display.
Feel free to ask questions or mention concerns below so that I can address them with the prototype and ensure satisfaction!

I submitted payment for the Prototype on Oct. 12, 2018. Back then the understanding was he needed to make some changes to his machine and pick up a few extra parts. No problem. Fast forward to 2019 - I launched the IC post as he was nearing completion of the modifications on the machine. I was asking weekly for updates, but consistently the proto was not completed. It seems his new job had eaten up too much of his spare time. This worried me, that if we did get the proto done and then got into GB phase, I would not be able to rely on timely completion of the final product for all of you to enjoy. In light of this, I should be receiving a refund for my prototype payment shortly - irregardless of this I have already begun working towards getting this manufactured elsewhere.
I have high hopes that this will actually open up the options and decrease the overall cost of the base kit. Good news all around. Bad news, it'll take a bit more time. Once I have a new manufacturer locked in, I'll post up the new options and final kit design based on feedback I've received thus-far and this should allow us to blast through prototype to GB phase. Hoping to have these in your hands before the summer meet ups! Thank you kindly for your patience. Stay tuned for a OG post update with updated info and perhaps a new input form. My ultimate goal here is to get you guys an awesome product that you will love to stare at for endless hours everyday, this is just a speedbump with more rainbows on the other side.

Yes, my previous manufacturer was going to do the proto in acrylic, but will only agree to a new manufacturer if they can do the prototype in Polycarbonate. PC will be material of choice for the mid section - I will explore if the case is solid enough with full poly or if we need the alu bits for support.

Really appreciate the transparency on this! I (and I'm sure many others) are still very much in for these delicious cases!

*Also wanted to mention for sake of transparency, this is not being run by Exclusive. He has helped with communication overseas, but the product is not being run or manufactured by Exclusive.
Case is going for coatings later this week, and then hopefully will be shipping out. I am going on vacation next week for 2 weeks, but a good friend in the community has offered to snap some pics of it while I'm out in about in Cali drinking beer :)
As soon as I can get prices and design fixed up for mass productions (due to some flex in the bottom of my prototype design around my weight, I may opt to go without a weight) I will launch the GB! I still need to figure out shipping, I may be looking for a proxy/storefront in the USA to distribute these out there.. But I will look into that once I get a better idea of costs.

Yes! I got two prototypes made so i can try the stacking method to make sure it all lines up :) (It will just be extra middles, with one top and one bottom).

Is the final product going to hold 96 or 80 artisans? The first post says that the case was going to be 8 x 12, but the renders/photos all show a 8 x 10 slot case so I'm confused as to which is right.
Hey! Sorry I forgot to correct that. 8x10 due to limitations on machine size.
Also, prototype is finished and shipping today. Will be in my hands shortly. Just putting final touches on the Founders Edition and then will need to sort out pricing, shipping and final options before we jump into a GB.

The price is high, and I have to wonder if that's just the cost of doing business or the factory charging a high price. If this arrangement was facilitated by Exclusive then I trust the cost is fair.
That said, I'm still in as long as it still holds 80 artisans and has magnets to hold the lid in place. I have 70 artisans that potentially need storage were I to take all of mine off of keyboards, so the number of slots is really important to someone like me. The other option would be Hayt Case v2 x 2, which would store 108 artisans combined and cost $148 x 2.

That's a good point. I was hoping for no more than the $120-$180 range. $150-$200 as a stretch.

I received this info today, however am still working on getting it lowered a bit. I do understand it is not cheap, however one has to keep in mind this has about the same manufacturing time as a keyboard, maybe more due to all the slots. Poly is also much more difficult as far as QC and yield than aluminum, so again, an added cost.
I will keep you all updated as things progress with discussions. I will also send the files to a local shop to see what they could do on a smaller basis than 50.

I wasn't so much referring to the level of protection of this case as compared to others, I was more pointing out that if we spend hundreds/thousands on artisans, then it shouldn't be unreasonable to spend a couple hundred on a nice case. This case is arguably nice than previous ones, but may not necessarily offer more protection by any means. It might though, who knows :)
If we purely wanted a balance between price/protection, any old box would do to be honest.

Well said, that's more or less how I feel about it too. On the one hand, it's ~$70 more than I'd have hoped but considering what some of us have spent in time (and effort) to amass a collection of artisans that big (80+), it doesn't seem too unreasonable for a high-end, custom made case. I feel as if the "like a custom keyboard" comparison is fair and if the QC is going to be as good as it sounds (probably better than some keyboard GBs), it'll be worth it in the end.
Are there much cheaper options? Absolutely. Is this for everyone...or even average collectors? Absolutely not. Am I still in because I'm a nutjob with a ton of caps that wants a case that feels worthy of how ridiculous my collection is? You bet! All that said, if he can negotiate that price down to the $199 mark it'd probably go over a little better but I understand that it is what it is, especially for a relatively low MOQ (50 vs 150+ for others). Regardless of how it pans out, props to BAS1C for keeping us updated and being up-front with us about logistics :thumb:

Haha, i have some renders i can pull up of full PVD. I re-designed the weight for founders edition so i will have to re-do those renders for accuracy.
I have 1.5 prototypes made, but only PVD is my weight. I did not want to spend the $$ on full PVD at prototype rates.
I'd like to add a note, i copied this in the first page:
*One thing to note here, I know many of you are out due to cost.. If we cannot hit the MoQ of overseas production, but we still have more than 10 in, I will see if I can get them made locally and then offer a cerakoted option. Yes! Still in the works. I have found a new manufacturer, local-ish to me. He’s just finishing the new set up but he has the files and is reviewing them.
I need to make a small adjustment to the acrylic window and how it is secured to the case before production. The case will also be Cerakoted instead. There may be a weight option but I no longer have access to PVD plating here, so if it is an option, it will be sandblasted or cerakoted as well.
I should hear back from him by end of weekend!
Also fun note: no MoQ, sooo it’ll happen. Just taking some time :) thank you all for sticking it out and having patience. I want to make sure what I deliver is top quality.

Top case adjustment is finalized, will be holding the acrylic window in with 4x screws. The press fit did not work out as intended, and I did not want to epoxy however many cases ordered due to variations and messiness. Manufacturer now has the full design and will be reviewing it.
I'll be posting some new renders and weight options for the FE. I am contacting a company elsewhere for PVD option, however it might be a bit expensive due to secondary shipping of weights to and from there.

So the tough questions.
Is this ever actually going to happen?
What has taken so long to get the ball rolling?
Perhaps stream line the options so there are not so many options to deal with. Cutting time and cost, And over all make this come to life without so many issues?
I have regretfully passed on 3 different buys waiting for this box. , I wish I would have gotten onboard with some of the others, now knowing its still not in GB phase.. :-(

Now that Both of those are all said and done so I can drop some dollars on a second proto with the new manu, I will only be looking for QC as the first proto helped me sort out design issues.

Sent files to manu for pricing! Will have to get another proto done to check fitment and quality.. Will post timing once I have it, and prices.
For finishes, we are going to do cerakote, which will be a baked in cost per unit for standard option, additional cost for individual colours and pattern finishes (camo, turtle shell, other styles).
I will run a poll for the primary colour.

Hi All quick update here... I have revised original post with this information, but here it is.
I decided to launch a r2 of my original case to offset the cost of needing to run a second prototype due to manufacturer swaps. Now that that is due to be shipped out by end of January, I can re-focus my attention here. I know there have been a ton of PC cases hitting the market in various sizes, so I'd like to open up the door to comments again. I'd like the keep the design as is - however there are a few options I would like to explore which might allow to bring the cost down, or crank it up with some in-case LEDs...

Yes! Finishing an old project this month and then will get this one going. My manufacturer (in Texas) is now looking at the files to price out the product for me. I think we will offer one higher end model as pictured in the thread previously and one single piece polycarbonate with sliding window for a cheaper price. Same size etc.

Hey kind of!! I have the new 2-piece design finalized. It will be cheaper than 4-piece and just as slick. I have a manu local to me pricing it out right now. Once my Bas1c Box round 2 is shipped in about 4 weeks, I should be ready to take this one on provided pricing is fair at a proper shop. I have an exam monday that i've been going ham on.. Once that's done I'll be re-writing the first page with the new renders. I also have an option for engraved grid (for timestamps etc) and I think i managed to add a row of slots in.
Assuming proto and pricing goes well, we will have a single base piece in either frosted acrylic or alu (with anodizing or cerakote) and a clear acrylic lid, held on by magnets. One of the difficult parts to this design is ensuring magnets are held in by tolerance, without crushing them. Neodymium earth magnets are pretty brittle. Anyone got any other suggestions? Trying to avoid a sliding lid due to the size of this thing, and avoiding screws.

Nice, thanks! We just got a dog so things are a bit hectic, and trying to wrap up the Bas1c Box anodizing before I launch this fully. But looks like we should be able to hit MoQ of 20 for this guy based on the early IC. Reddit r/MK should hopefully bring in others as well!
Stacking is only applicable for PC only?
My worry with alu stacking is scratching. I will evaluate including a rubber gasket on the bottom for alu stacking. This will likely drive up the cost a bit though. If people are happy to go alu without a gasket, that's fine. I will include a disclaimer if gasket doesn't work out (all depends on if my factory guy can make it).
