Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Lovely photo log of the SK. Gorgeous board! I've been looking for one of the DCS smallfry / Cherry replica sets for a while, but they seem to be harder to find lately. It looks great.

Yeah I tried to find some of the other sets that they no longer had on Techkeys a few years ago but got absolutely nothing. They are really squirrelled away. I guess a lot of people have the attachment to it with it's link to Smallfry which I understand.

Good luck man. I'd love to get the full set with orange on white mods and an ISO kit but going off the GB page I don't think there were that many sets ordered to start with...

Man, that's really pretty. Great build photos! Where do you source this "LSD oil"? How does it compare to other oils used for springs?

I went to a car parts dealer. It's Limited Slip Differential oil.

Feels good. Smells bad. I've never used victorinox or any oil like that on springs before to compare to. I've used 106 in the past. Hard to say the difference as this was also my first vint brown build and I didn't lube the stems either. But. essentially, I feel like it just got rid of the ping and left most of the raw switch feel intact. I'm used to linears with 205g0 so these nice old browns with relatively minimal modification are a really pleasant change.

Red Riot looks great!

After having built it -- how do you feel about your typing experience on this board? How does it compare to other boards you own (which ones do you own?)? And how do you feel specifically about the design elements? (especially those shiny, gold-coated brass pieces)

The PC half place gives it a similar feeling and sound to my JER-A06 (which is one of my favorites).
I'm planning on sticking a half plate into my CLS which I expect will feel about the same when I'm done so I wouldn't rack that up to the keyboard itself just yet.
It's not the quietest keyboard in my collection, but it's red so who cares...

Side by side with the CLS it looks more balanced to me.
Same height, a hair less steep with slightly thicker bezels.
It weighs quite a bit more though with all the bling.
219516-0

The finish isn't quite as fine as my Mira SE (which I think is down to the sand blasting medium), but it's still really good.
ANO and PVD don't have any defects that I can find - super uniform from all angles.

I love the red and gold combination.  LZ went to overboard with the finish and it shows.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! The red anodizing actually looks very smooth and really nice in your photos. I am waiting for a grey one and hope to have as pleasant an experience as you. I love the feeling/sound of JER-A06 as well.

I quite like it, definitely an interesting feeling since the board feels more solid now. It doesn't feel wrong by any means. Doesn't feel as solid as my LZ GH V2 brass plate build, and im assuming that is because this board uses fewer and smaller connections from the plate to the case.

It's a high copper brass. I cleaned and sanded it down to a smooth finish but didn't put any sort of coating on it, figure I will just let it patina.
This was pre cleaning and sanding, didn't take any pics after.

KeyCon? I hope you signed up! Wow, that Kish is beautiful.
no keycon :( I even work in the city, shoulda signed up.

I dig the Kishsaver.
thanks! its my most prized board

I quite like it, definitely an interesting feeling since the board feels more solid now. It doesn't feel wrong by any means. Doesn't feel as solid as my LZ GH V2 brass plate build, and im assuming that is because this board uses fewer and smaller connections from the plate to the case.
is there a big difference in sound/feel vs original plate/pcb? which do you prefer?

Thats great, what is the model number for those cases? (Im assuming they are pelican cases)
not as nice as pelican, but much cheaper and with pick and pluck foam: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KKZFZDQ/

It's a high copper brass. I cleaned and sanded it down to a smooth finish but didn't put any sort of coating on it, figure I will just let it patina.
This was pre cleaning and sanding, didn't take any pics after.

Wow thanks for sharing! What switch did you build with it and how does it sound?

Thanks for the link, I might want to grab a few of those, im probably going to need a place to put boards when transporting them and those seem like they will work great.

Brief comparison of the two below.

It is built with 68g lubed retooled mx blacks, also have switch films installed. It sounds pretty nice. A bit louder than the aluminum plate but also sounds more substantial and lower pitched. There is a harder bottom out but it is still softer and quieter than the brass plate LZ GH V2 that these switches were in before (were 63.5g spring before, but I didn't like that light). I'm assuming that has to do with how the plate is mounted in the case, since the LZ has more mounting points and the mounting points are more substantial.

Would be hard to make a decision as to what I like more currently, only time will tell, but it feels nice to have another build inside this case for sure. I'm totally in love with the backlighting as well, might have come across a bit more yellow in the pictures, but they are diffused warm white 1.8mm leds. I paid quite a bit to get these exact spec leds but it was totally worth it. Perfect classy shade of white. Kind of scared as the plate patinas it might ruin how vivid the backlight is, but oh well.

I might do typing tests some time in the future because I have been wanting to for a few other boards I have as well but that might be a while.

Be aware, skin flakes that fall down to the plate with hand oils on them with tarnish the brass faster and lead to a fairly unappealing spotting pattern. Need to clean my Keycult plate because of that.

Tungsten cerakote, hot swap CLS with 62g switch filmed and lubed T1 switches, clipped, band-aided and lubed authentic cherry screw in stabs, GMK Originative, Icon mods, split right shift and R5 bottom row.

Yeah this had a few specks on it when I first got it. I hope it stays clean but I know it probably wont. PVD coating would have been nice.

Built it using gasket only, no screws. Gasket and plate fit in the case like a glove. Built with snap-in stabs to prevent the gasket getting pushed out to much around the backspace and spacebar.  Really enjoying this board right now.

Wow great pictures, that blue looks rad with both sets, and I really like the side profile. Cool to see a new board using that older gasket concept in new ways  :thumb:
