Inspiration

The Gentoo is a penguin themed, 65% keyboard that is a clear successor to my previously released board, The Adélie. With The Adelie paying homage to my favorite types of boards, sub 60's, it excluded the number row. For some, this was a deal breaker and I can't say that I blame them.

"Gentoo" is the name of a different species of penguin and as the name of this board works two fold: not only is this board the "Gen 2" of its predecessor, the Gentoo penguin, as you can see here, is a slightly larger penguin than the Adélie which I find aptly describes the relation between this board and the last.

*two weights are not included, for this render, they are simply for presentation of both sides.*

Gasket mount.
6 Degree typing angle.
Side weight accents.
Daughter board, centered USB.
QMK and VIA compatible
[Bottom/Internal] Brass Weight.
Approx. 2.33 kg [5.13 lbs] unbuilt assuming brass plate.
Plate Materials: Aluminum, Brass, FR4, Carbon Fiber

Options
Case Color options: E-White, Navy, Forest Green, Black
Base Weight Configuration [$450]: Sandblasted + Coated Brass
PVD Weight Upgrade [+$100]: Silver, Graphite

The Adélie keyboard, at the time of group buy, offered all configurations with PVD Brass. For the Gentoo, the black and silver color scheme will remain. As for the other options ​I have opted for sand blasted brass as a more neutral element to mesh better with more keysets.

*The blue for the Gentoo is not the same blue as the Adélie.

*Color options are only speculated; colors, materials, and finishes are not final.

Pricing
Likely very similarly priced to the Adélie which retailed for $550 USD.

Status
The model is complete, the PCB is in the works. Assembling the vendors necessary to set a group buy date and begin prototyping.

I love my Adelie but this is the one thing (65% form factor) that would make it even better. Absolutely sold! The quality of the design/manufacturing is TOP NOTCH on the Adelie and I love the rounded nature of the case. I saw someone swap the side weights on a black Adelie to be gold instead of silver pvd.... that NEEDS to be an option.

Loved the Adelie, can't do 40s, so count me in on the Gentoo! That green is extremely clean. Would love silver side pieces with the green, and perhaps black PVD side pieces with the white? Brass suits the blue alu, but not so much the other colors in my opinion.

I love the Blue (curious to see it side by side with the Adelie to see the difference).
Black/White is a classic but a bit boring to my taste, the green is a very nice shade but hard to match with many sets.

Hopefully we get one more color. Personally kinda hoping for a Plum/Purple. Or maybe a Pink or maroon/deep red would probably also look great.

I love the idea of black with white in concept but leads to a very harsh contrast that I think only plays well for those who want to full commit to the monochrome lifestyle.

Black and Gold does look nice in theory but makes for hard keyset matching IMO other than maybe that Pharaoh set coming up.. and GMK Lux

I have a blue in hand of the Adelie, once we get protos made I will be sure to post some pictures of the side by side. What kind of sides would you pair with the red? And what keyset?
