I'm for the change to the 2-2-3-3-3-3 layout personally. This keyset looks amazing btw. Cannot wait for this to drop. I'll be grabbing it with whatever layout it releases in

Also I've got just row 3 keys on a minivan and it feels great. I'll have to try it out with the back raised a little to simulate feet.

3-3-3-3-3-3 ;)

SA uniform feels so much better imo. R1 caps are awful, but I guess I can live with R2.

I really love the pluse 1-1-2-3-4-3 layout.
don't quiet like 22-3333, or all R3, It's been called Flat Chested in China.
As you know Filco SA is not quiet popular here.

For me, at least, x-x-2-3-4-x is needed....I think.

I have had only 1 SA keyset which is the Filco SA (2-2-3-3-3-3) which is exactly the profile setup that you're proposing. I'm using it with the Novatouch at an angle and find it very comfortable to type on. So personally I'm for it (Novelties kit looks great!)

With the old 1-1-2-3-4-3 profile I also noticed that people may have trouble reaching the left 1.25u CONTROL (regardless if R3 or R4) when combined with a R4 SHIFT Z X C V B N M row. What I mean is that the SHIFT curvature sort of prevents your left pinky finger from naturally reaching the CONTROL switch. I also tried other profile setups, for example 2-3-3-4-3, 2-3-3-4-4 and others but 2-3-3-3-3 performed better from what I can tell.

Also a question if someone can explain. I understand the 1-1-2-3-4-4 setup since it makes a fuller curve but why so many sets go with 1-1-2-3-4-3? For example the Chocolatier SA changed from 1-1-2-3-4-4 to 1-1-2-3-4-3 very close to the buy.

As we approach the group buy launch after two years in the making I'd like to hear your opinions about the final profile setup that I chose for the keycap set, which you can see in the green border mockups below. The set was previously designed as a 1-1-2-3-4-3 keycap set but some people dislike this config and requested something smoother, organic and different. For the people who never used a SA set, the 1-1-2-3-4-3 curvature is very pronunciated (Pulse was made on this profile) and some people dislike the super tall R1 keycaps (wobble) and the negative angle that R4 offers (ache) - see the Pulse picture at the bottom of this post.

So for the past weeks I have been testing various SA configs and tinkering with my daily driver and what I learned from this experience is that 2-2-3-3-3-3 seems to be the optimal setup. I tried it first and it was the faster for me to adjust coming from Cherry profile, it looks good (has a terminal/vintage vibe since the bottom row modifiers have the same row as the space bar, so it looks completely uniform), feels confortable for typing and works great when playing games.

The greatest feature of the new config is that it feels and looks great when paired with both flat and angled cases, which isn't always the case with 1-2-3-4-3 sets - because when paired with flat cases the negative angle of R4 can cause ouch after long sessions. With the new profile configuration users will naturally have a good curvature and ergonomics, on both angled and flat cases.

I'd like to ask you people to experiment with this profile with your grab bags/other SA sets and report back with input. Tell me what you think, will you benefit from this new profile setup? I'll be tweaking and releasing the exact child deals that will be offered in a couple of days so hang around for more info and feel free to make requests, I'll consider everything.

Anything for a change from a flush uniform R3 please, MiTo. It's nothing like DSA profile strangely.

I tried uniform R3 and everything under the home row just felt alienating to me especially at a raised angle with your keyboard feets out unlike DSA which felt very similar to Cherry Profile to me.

I will agree with the above comment by hoq about 2-2-3-3-3 might be sub-optimal too.

I had not previously used this layout but I mocked it up with grab bag caps and really like it.  So nice to keep the R1 out of the picture and I found it much easier to hit both left shift & ctrl simultaneously (something I do countless times per day in Excel.)

Highly approve of both the layout and design!

It has to do with the angle at which your fingers hit each key on each row, R4 is against a straight downstroke as is the case. Of your thumb pressing down on the spacebar, or you pressing control or alt and some other key. It would make. More sense to use R2 for that matter instead of R4. But I think R3 suits it much better.

Also this is why I am going to say I don't agree with the "ouch" part on the R4, the negative angle has a purpose, with your hands in the correct position, your fingers are attacking the keycap towards you, thus it makes sense that the angle is facing the fingers when they reach back to that row.

The only row in SA that could be changed would possibly be R1, it looks amazing, but the curvature is badly adapted to cherry. Keycap straight stems.

It's gotta be sculpted if you want it to be a valuable set for the future. If you look at the trends all of the sa sets that are now sought after are sculpted.

They also feel like a complete product, like something with personality.

Now take almost all dsa sets, almost all have no market value, there's no personality.

If R4 seems to be the problem the why not just change it to R3 and have 1-1-2-3-3? That way it has the nice downward sculpting without the drawback of R4?
Frankly, I'd like to try a set like that to see how I like it.

2-2-3-3-3 is too flat for my personal taste. That said, I can respect it.

Nuclear Data is uniform SA and goes for 500+. I'm sure Symbiosis would go for in the same price range. Danger Zone, depending on kits, has gone for 300ish.

Granite DSA is in constant demand (so much that SP is going to have constant sales of it). I could list my Hyperfuse DSA and get 300+ in a heartbeat.

Seems like plenty of "personality" to me.

Also, who designs a keyset with "future market value" in mind? The keyset should reflect the designer's vision, not what inflated price it will sell at 2-3 years down the road.

I've only ever tried a uniform setup from a grab bag set I put together. While the fully sculpted setup looks nice, is there any way to try and get an idea for how it would feel to actually type on? Do the row 1 and 4 keys make it difficult to press the keys down in any way?

For me, it seems a 2-3-3-3-3 setup would be safer than fully sculpted (while that latter would look neater imo)

What appeal me when looking at SA is the sculpted elements it has. Yes I don't have any SA and never tried one. But looking at All-R3 SA makes me think "why not DSA?"

And personally I really really want DSA have a sculpted version (I speak about DSA height).

I would prefer the fully-sculpted set and hope that you would at least have that option. I have the fully-sculpted Pulse set and absolutely love it. The sculpt is one of the most beautiful aspects of SA, and I share jebbra's sentiment that All-R3 just feels like a taller DSA.

It's definitely launching in a couple weeks. I've been quite busy with many things and I'm hoping to update you guys with more information/kits as soon as I can, some projects have been overlaping each other so I apologize for my abscence. Regardless, I'm pretty satisfied with all the feedback aquired via multiple  platforms and forums and before hand I'd like to announce that this set will be multisculpted with an optional kit. It will be up to you to chose between 223333 or 112343.

Thank you for the update! It's a lovely set, definitely will be getting in on the group buy. Hoping a 1.75u RShift is included in there somewhere, or a tsangan kit otherwise, if not I can just use it on my other boards but I've been keen on my whitefox lately.  :-X

Indeed, I've done some experiments last couple days and I really like 1-2-3-3-4-3 on angled and then either 1-2-3-3-3-3 or 3-3-3-3-3-3 for flat. I'll be satisfied with any, probably going to pick up the 223333 out of the ones Mito's mentioned.

It's not a real SA keycap set if it doesn't have a full profile.

Personally, I believe the 1-1-2-3-4-3 row profile is the divine solution since the bottom R3 matches the SA space bar best. I haven't seen any lost fingers due to the 3-4-3 profile stepping.

If the R1 caps feel too wobbly, sticker the switches!

If you want ALL-R3 profile caps then please design a DSA keycap set which is basically ALL-R3 caps without the heels ... Those ALL-R3 sets are just clogging up the SA production queue and could be done on the side on the DSA machinery instead!

As someone who has both, DSA =\= Uniform R3 SA.  In no particular way.  I love uniform R3 SA after getting it on my DZ, and wish that more people would make their SA sets uniform R3, but 2-3-3-3-3-3 works too, so I'm definitely in.

Re: [IC] GODSPEED SA - preparing for launch

For those of you who have been curious about how the "multi-sculpt" feature is going to work in our group buy - after gathering lots of feedback everywhere, recently I've been inclined to run the group buy with all of the child kits oriented to the 1-1-2-3-4-3 profile, which is the vanilla profile and everyone is already used to. What I mean is that 40s, 60s, TKLs and 100s users will have the option to place a modular order with their fundamental kits divided extremely similar like Pulse R2/Chocolatier.

But for the picky enthusiasts who really want to experience the unique flat setup I presented in OP, I'm going to add a "Terminal Kit" featuring flat alphas combined with interesting novelties, which is meant to be used on 40s (given that you also order the 40s mods), 60s (standalone) and TKLs (standalone). By "standalone" I mean "GMK style", you'll be good with this kit on it's own.

Ergodox, 100s, Tsangan and International users are not covered with this kit, unless they want to ghetto and use 1-1-2-3-4-3 modifiers or 1-1-2-3-4-3 numpad or whatever other crazy combination you come up with.

In case you're wondering why I'm not making everything modular the answer is that because it's simply not viable. I could definitely offer FLAT ALPHAS, FLAT MODS, FLAT NOVELTIES, SCULPTED ALPHAS, SCULPTED MODS, SCULPTED NOVELTIES, etc. but can you imagine what a logistic nightmare it would be? Not many people would be funding these kits together, therefore they would be expensive for asbolutely everyone. We would be essentially having two different keycap sets being offered at the same time, both with terrible pricing. People would get confused when ordering (broken/non-intuitive kits) and the sorting guys would easily get overwhelmed and make mistakes. My initial idea was to make a 223333 Adapter Kit, (to transform a 112343 into it's flat counterpart) but then you'd end up with a lot of wasted keycaps, regardless of your layout (ANSI, Tsangan, whatever).

So I came up with the Terminal Kit:

And I have a couple questions for those who would use it:
  • Would you like to see it trimmed down to 60% only?
  • Or maybe expanded to 100%? (by adding a flat Numpad with it)
  • Do you like the bottom row modifiers or would you prefer text only?
  • Do you like the red cluster or would you prefer full blue/yellow/beige?

It's impossible to please everyone but given the interest for flat and your passion for sculpted I'm trying to make this work as best as I can. So let me know what you think!

RANDOM PRACTICAL EXAMPLE:
Let's say you have a Planck, a Novatouch, you love SA and you'd like to try the flat setup. I'd recommend you to order Alphas + 40s Mods (to complete your Planck) and either a Terminal Kit or another pack of Alphas + Base Mods to properly cover your Novatouch.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE:
You have a 40% and want to experience the flat setup then you'd need the Terminal Kit + 40s Mods. Does that make sense?

TL;DR: Basically, at the end of the day, when it's all said and done, the set will be 1-1-2-3-4-3 but an unique kit for 40s/60s/TKLs with novelties will be provided on 2-2-3-3-3-3 (and it's called Terminal Kit). What do you think about said kit?

I think having it be a standalone "GMK style" is a brilliant idea - I have a few TKLs and have a couple 40% boards coming in soon enough and having the option to go for 223333 (which I slightly prefer to 112343 most the time) will be fantastic. I have no use for 60% because the only one I have is a HHKB, nor do I own 100% boards, so the TKL size for the Terminal Kit is perfect for me.

I have two WhiteFox Arias so I'd be needing a 1.75 rshift though, I'm assuming I could just get the tsangan kit and snatch it from there, no biggie.

I appreciate the amount of possibilities you're offering with the addition of the Terminal! Very much looking forward to the drop, it'll still be a couple weeks till it launches correct?

PS: Oh yea, I forgot, I love the bottom row modifiers for the Terminal. The red cluster I'm unsure about, I may prefer it be in blue or beige but the red may grow on me over time as well - not a deal breaker either way, I'll most likely be using artisans there.  :blank:

Oh that Terminal Kit sounds like a perfect solution  :thumb:

From the last kit render, I realize it had very little (if any) 1u R3 novelties which means sad news for ortho user.

1&2: I think it would be best to check the order quantities for previous buys to get a solid answer for that. But to answer the question for myself as a Fullsize user, I think TLK is fine, Numpad as its own kit.
3: I do love me some nice symbols, but I wouldn't mind if they were only part of a novelties set.
4: Could you maybe provide a picture of the other variant for reference? I'm unsure myself for now.

Mission Control would have made a nice Ctrl key aswell, but I guess a two liner would not fit in with all the other one-liner text mods. Also hoping there will be symbols for arrow keys in a addon kit, never really liked text on those. And since this is spaceflight themed if I got that right, maybe Abort instead of Eject? Never heard of Eject in spaceflight.

Edit: Actually, Mission Control would rather be used for the OS key, even though it contains the word Control, it makes more sense in this context.

Love the solution to offer the less-sculptured version as an option. With SP MOQ it's very likely the kit will tip and those who really love their R3 will be happy while the rest of us can get their full profile on.

Also very relieved to hear the international kit will be fully profiled. Love the colors and concept of this set and can't wait for the ordering to start.

60% would be enough for me, but I'm going that way no matter, so it doesn't really matter if it has the extra keys.
Modifiers is fine with me.
The red cluster seems out of place to me.  However, I'm not going to be using those keys, most likely.

Absolutely, I'll be posting the child deals (most likely) this weekend.

I'm removing the planet icon from the Terminal Kit and will keep it text only. Thanks you all for the great responses and interest in the project, we gonna have some pretty neat and unique kits available!

Very exciting news Mito, can't wait for things to get going! Hopefully the planet icon will still be available through the novelties kit, it's a lovely design.

1. I personally like the TKL > 60%, just because of the extra keys you would get to build on other size layouts. What would even be better if it offered a 1.75u shift to cover the 65% community while not really hurting the 60%/TKL communities.
2. I'm not really a 100% guy so I'll pass on that.
3. I like the image key for windows key so I like it how it is. But, I am not opposed to all text as long as it stays in the "novelties" style text and not the typical hyper, meta, super etc. as a replacement for the image key.
4. Red cluster fits as nice accent imo.

Pumped for this set.

Yep, as usual tsangan child kits everyone voted for.

And it's great news for those that stands only for uniform r3 sets as an option for that DSA can't satisfy them while keeping the full sculptured profile.

I'm with the red cluster if it in includes other keys like Escape to really accentuate the colors. Saying no is just shutting out the creativity for designs.

Hell, I'm all for it if the cluster is in the same faded blue (edit: in this case, the yellow in the mock-up ) used for the modifiers.

Too bad the NASA-like novelty keys are gone from the Terminal kit. They provided another little bit of pop to the set without having to buy a novelty kit. A lot of people are going to get it for the arrow keys nonetheless.

Great to see that top right red cluster instead of the usual red Esc keycap!  :thumb:

However, I find the Roll, Yaw and Pitch legends a little boring and not spacey enough. They fit better to the Danger Zone theme, in my opinion.

1. Thank you for the Alpha only base kit
2. Props for the 40s kit
3. Props for the legended ergodox kit!
4. Thank you for the Colemak :-*

Now let me *****ing, esp about your PhD  :p
1. Please add 1 more R4 shift
2. I think it is better to use the Alpha's cream for blanks in PhD and use the yellow to accentuate Low-Rise-Enter
3. How about 1u R3 yellow "Launch" to replace yellow Godspeed on PhD?
4. Pulse's Planck is better IMO with CMD and Caps Lock addition (and Super-Hyper-Meta instead of only SAS-RCS)
5. It's too little novelties available for Planck/Preonic  :-[
Bonus opinion: I don't use apparent bottom-right-arrow on my planck and use another CMD alt ctrl instead, so I prefer anything fancy to replace the arrow or even better, (another) actual CMD alt ctrl.

Nevertheless, very nice kit overall :thumb:

Appreciate the words and considerations, thank you very much guys.

Regarding the Planck kit, the color swap for raise and lower is something I experimented in the past but removed entirely, if this request gathers more weight I'll swap it accordingly. It looks good but people would complain having it yellow only.We will most likely end up with yellow RAISE/LOWER and swap the spacebars for beige, the current yellow space bars will be available via blanks (like they currently are), like you suggested.

I'm looking into adding the secondary shift for the Preonic. But have in mind that the kit already covers the Preonic and it's not possible to cover everyone's particular layout, cause if we do it the kit will end up being huge and expensive. I understand the suggestion and will try to tweak it.

About Planck novelties I understand the frustration since we practically only have SAS and RCS, which are real spacecraft systems terms and act as a wild card in the kit (replacing CMD and the SUPER-META/HYPER trio that's practically on every set). But with the addition of yellow RAISE/LOWER it will look a bit more stylish in my opinion, and more overall balanced between a classy/noveltied look.

The reason for the lack of LAUNCH and other funny legends is because of molds. We have a lot of new molds being done and they aren't entirely interchangable, so even though I wanted more fancy words on the Planck that would mean (again) a relatively sour price.

Problem with adding a yellow enter is that we have 3 enters (R3 and R4) on blue. So it would be another 3 extra caps if I were to add yellow, cause I don't want flat and sculpted people having advantage over the counterpart. 6 total enters wouldn't make sense so we either have 3 blue or 3 yellow. I chose the first for obvious reasons, and in my perception RAISE/LOWER on yellow will be enough yellow accent for a Planck and if you need more accent there's a yellow MAL that can act as an ESC or BACKSPACE via novelties.

Sounds good?

Actually, this is a really good idea if expanding the kit by 1-2 keys isn't that big of a deal/defeating the purpose. I'm planning on buying a 40% kit for my 1.75u rshift since I have a tiny board coming in soon enough but if there'd be a one included in the Cockpit kit then that'd be really cool (I may still buy the 40% regardless, but it's nice to have options).

Yeah because its like depending on the flavor I am feeling (65% user)
1. get cockpit + maybe 40s (depending on 1.75u status for cockpit base or really wanting those 1.5u transmit, houston, lunar and 1.75u lock) or
2. get standard alpha + novelties + 40s

Probably would pick up the 40s either way, but still would like to see the 1.75u novelty shift make it in.

I have reviewed the TsaFox, 40s, PhD and Ergo kits and while I apreciate the input adding a 1.75u to the Cockpit is not interesting, considering the bigger picture.

> Changelog:
  • HYPER, META replacing CTRL, ALT on PhD;
  • Color swaps on PhD;
  • Included 2.75u blank on 40s for the VE.A;
  • 1u CMD replaced one of the previous 1u ALT on TsaFox (we previously had 2 ALTs);
  • Added 1.5u R3 ERASE to TsaFox;
  • Added 7u space bar to TsaFox;
  • Added a blank 2u spacebar to the Ergo von Dox.

It's... beautiful. I'll definitely be grabbing the Novelty set along with a 100% setup. I have slight concerns though regarding the cream color of the alphas, the color came out quite different for the Nantucket Selectric set, see chip on keychain vs actual keys.

Show Image

Will we have to pray for a good outcome?

I completely understand your concern and your point is very valid.

We are fine, I'm compensating the injection melting color effect with the chips we are using.

Our set won't have high contrast alpha legends nor a weird white (it's very hard to capture the real colors, WV doesn't look anything like that chip).

We will have a very vintage beige and blue, combined with a vivid light yellow and subtle gray. Just don't retrobright the set!

Great! I have no more concerns for this set then and will await the GB!

While I'm definitely down for this set for my 60% but just to ask, could there be some 1.75 blanks tossed in for split space bar support on JD40/45 boards?

What kits are you planning to get in order to almost cover the JD (since you're short 1 x 1.75u)?

We already cover the 6.25 space bar version of the JD40 and if I add a 1.75u then the JD45 is also covered.

In order to cover the secondary version of the JD40 (very specific) I'd need to add 5 x 1u R3 (on top of the 1.75u R3 blank addition) and that's way too much caps... I know it's not ideal, but for that there's the TsaFox kit.

As a JD40 user with that secondary layout, I'd be perfectly happy with just the additional 1.75u blank. Thank you!!

Wow, that's almost as many child deals as Overcast if you'd really implement dual profile for this GB.

But, and chances of higher versatility?
Like 1800 adapter kits or 6U spacebar instead of the already existing 6.25U in the spacebar pack?

Unfortunately 6u long SA space bars don't exist.

That kit is the Cockpit, it just got renamed - minus the red cluster on the top right, I assume Mito opted out of offering those as standard with the uniform set due to community feedback, those are available through the Novelties kit yep!

Edit: oh and the planet novelties on the bottom row too.

This is an absolutely gorgeous set @MiTo, thank you for putting this together! :thumb: I just ordered my set from MD, been wanting to try SA keys for quite some time now & this colorway caught my eye enough to be a instabuy for me. ;D I got one question though. I went with Solar alphas, modifiers, & the novelty kit. That will give me the more sculpted 1123433 look correct? I'm thinking that is the profile I want with this set. Although I own 3 - 60% boards, a 65% board, & a TKL, would going with the flatter 223333 Cockpit set & novelties be a better choice for me because of the boards I own? Or is it more a personal preference & either profile is compatible with any boards? Any input on that from anyone with experience with SA keys would be greatly appreciated! :thumb:

irritated that the TSAFox set doesnt have the row 1 2.0u backspace needed for the "Aria" layout or the arrows we need either.

Anyone figure out if we can just rock an Alpha, Fox, and Novelties set to build a whitefox? or do we need to add modifiers too.

Why or where do you decide that particular layout? When I search about Dox layout and no one appeared like the Godspeed.

Hey Rob, thanks for the support mate!

Regarding your questions:

1) The Alphas + Modifiers + Novelties indeed look and feel more sculpted (1-1-2-3-4-3);
2) I don't believe it would be a bad or good choice for you (it's all about personal preference, really) but I personally prefer the 2-2-3-3-3-3 layout (if I were to use a SA keycap set), as I find it more confortable to type on as I explained here;
3) Any profile is compatible with any boards, it all comes down to personal preference!

I hope you enjoy the set, good luck and godspeed pal.

irritated that the TSAFox set doesnt have the row 1 2.0u backspace needed for the "Aria" layout or the arrows we need either.

But that's because you need the modifiers or Cockpit kit as well, the TsaFox is just an addon for non-standard users not a standalone kit!

Anyone figure out if we can just rock an Alpha, Fox, and Novelties set to build a whitefox? or do we need to add modifiers too.

Alphas + TsaFox + Novelties could work, just make sure you have the proper keycaps for the navigation cluster (Home, Del - in this case Lock, Mal) etc. does that make sense?

Let me know if you require further assistance mate, I'm here to help.

Quick question! I really like the look of the red mod keys on the Novelty pack, but prefer the 2-2-3-3-3 layout for typing (and need to stem my haemorrhaging wallet somewhat). If I mix in some of those sculpted Novelty keys with the Cockpit kit for my TKL would the mixed profiles be problematic / really obviously look a little funky?

Ahh fantastic, thank you o Dreadful one! I was hoping it would look alright, with those keys a bit separate in location and function anyway, but it's very good to hear from the experts.

Now the only thing I need to work out is whether I'll definitely replace my TKL with a B.mini, and what this would mean for this set. Changing the keyboards would happen before the end of this year if I decide to go ahead, so I really need to make that call asap so that I make best decisions regarding this purchase.

If I do end up having the B.mini before Godspeed arrives it'll change a few things. The combination of row keys on the arrow cluster will look awesome still, as in the board in MiTo's reply to your question, but the final stack of special keys on the right hand side would look weirder with sculpted profiles in a single column than they would on a TKL. In that case it really wouldn't be worth getting the Novelty set, but I love them so much! Alternatively if I go for the sculpted profile, buying Alphas & Mods & Novelties, I'm basically buying an entire kit of Mods just for those 12 function keys.

So conflicted that novelty kits always look amazing, but are mostly made to go on that cluster of TKL keys that I never, ever use. Then if I buy a keyboard that does away with those unused keys, I miss out on using lots of pretty novelties! /firstworldproblems :(

I'm going to get some pictures of a R1 against a R2 keycap to visually display what the red R1 ROW PITCH YAW versus a R2 function row would potentially look like on a TKL keyboard, for you people that want a flat profile combined with red ROW PITCH YAW (from the Novelties). I don't have the actual labeled keycaps so you'll have to use a bit of your imagination.

A red ROW PITCH YAW would pop up a bit when assembled with the Cockpit kit, kind of ressembling the actual spacecraft high, tall and pronounced function switches that are present on the cockpit cabin. One could pretend that the keycaps are meant to be that way, as a "tribute" to the spaceshuttles. I had to make a choice and thought it would be bummer to ruin a sweet blue/beige cockpit kit with a weird out of place red cluster. So the red cluster is a bit of a "luxury" addon for 112343 users, if we can put this way. It's impossible to make everyone happy without offering literally multiple hundreds keycaps.

Like I previously said it's not ideal, but it looks okay in my personal opinion and gives the board a very unique and stylish terminal feel - it adds an odd bit of personality to the keyboard. Again, it's not ideal and there's obviously a difference. But in my perception as the designer it's a classic example of mix & match that works.

Please stand by.

What should I order to get this setup? Cockpit and Novelty Row 1?

That kit is the Cockpit, it just got renamed - minus the red cluster on the top right, I assume Mito opted out of offering those as standard with the uniform set due to community feedback, those are available through the Novelties kit yep!

Edit: oh and the planet novelties on the bottom row too.

Ei thanks  :thumb: So the cockpit set is the full TKL layout and since I want the extra modifiers including the red buttons I should buy with the novelties correct?

Yes, but like I said the "red buttons" aren't an exact match for the Cockpit kit. The "row of buttons" on the Cockpit kit is bit taller than the "red buttons" from the Novelties, so although they work together it's entirely up to personal preference.

Not sure if this helps I asked a similar question https://www.massdrop.com/buy/godspeed-custom-sa-keycap-set/talk/525473

I understand what you mean with the decisions you've had to make re. inclusion of various key colours for different kits, and rather like the sound of this; the taller red switches grouped together would look good and physically stand out beside the flatter alphanumerics. I think I'm going to get Cockpit, Novelties, and 40s (impending Minivan), so have different options for various future boards. If I could I'd grab one of everything though, or at least add in Alphas, Mods, and Calculus just in case I do end up with a Lightsaver or similar in the future! Dangggg that would look epic....

ETA: Just added Calculus too. Good thinking, me.

I want to get a set to fit my full-size keyboard. I also want the red and yellow caps too. So let me get this straight... My options are:

1. Sculpted set
- Solar Alphas ($39.99)
- Novelty Set ($49.99) (these can be interchanged with the Modifier set to complete a TKL/fullsize build?)
- Calculus Set ($29.99)
Subtotal: $119.99 before tax/shipping

2. Cockpit Set
- Cockpit Set ($88.99) (comes with Novelty modifiers and yellow keys, but not the red/green keys)
- Calculus Set ($29.99) (profile won't match?)
Subtotal: $118.98 before tax/shipping

What questions should I be asking myself to predict which set I will enjoy more?

1. Previous daily driver had Cherry profile alphas + SP profile modifiers, so I was used to having angled keys on the modifiers. Currently typing on OEM profile which I don't mind.
2. I have the Retro DSA set from years ago--interesting set, but I didn't like the uniform feel for daily use.
3. I usually type with the tips of my fingers, angled/curled.

What's the issue with R4 being sculpted? Does it affect only a certain group of people who type a certain way?

With option 1 you still need Modifier kit to get the F row if you wanna fill TKL/Fullsize. But you are good to go up to fullsize with option 2.

The Good thing about MiTo here is that he's been invaluable on MassDrop for those wanting to know which sets to fill out their keyboards with.

Kudos to you Sir for making key-cap purchasing that much easier.  Not all of us have the Geekhack experience to know what to buy hence thanks for making it a lot easier.

:thumb:

Hey Rob, thanks for the support mate!

Regarding your questions:

1) The Alphas + Modifiers + Novelties indeed look and feel more sculpted (1-1-2-3-4-3);
2) I don't believe it would be a bad or good choice for you (it's all about personal preference, really) but I personally prefer the 2-2-3-3-3-3 layout (if I were to use a SA keycap set), as I find it more confortable to type on as I explained here;
3) Any profile is compatible with any boards, it all comes down to personal preference!

I hope you enjoy the set, good luck and godspeed pal.

Thanks for the reply & link :thumb: Haven't been on GH in a few days to see it. I did end up keeping the more sculpted 1-1-2-3-4-3 since the sculpted look appeals to me more visually than the 2-2-3-3-3-3. Although admittedly 2-2-3-3-3-3 does make more sense for everyday use, I figure if I'm gonna try SA might as well go with the sculpted look it is known for. Pretty pumped for this set after finally settling on what I wanted!  ;D

In the end I couldn't decide on which sets to get for which board (don't have a project or upcoming kit that could decide on) so I missed out.

Given there were what, nearly 3000 kits sold? I take it aftermarket purchase should be a lot easier at least  :))

Updates are now in the hands of Massdrop.  This IC is rather obsolete, which is why he replaced the OP.  The GB has been run on MD, and it is in their hands.
