[IC] Project: Haze, a SA keycap set.
« on: Sat, 20 September 2014, 01:27:23 »
Current status: to the few who are interested in this set, I am currently learning how to use Inkscape (and do a few other projects) in my limited spare time as I'm currently in university, but I will try to have all the mock ups finished within my next school break(7 weeks) and then work my *** after completing it to try and make this set a reality.

Hello Geekhack! This is my first ever attempt at designing my own key cap set so any constructive criticism/feedback is very much appreciated.

I call this set: Haze, because the inspiration of this design originated from one of my favorite games ever - World of Warcraft(WoW). As I have slowly started growing out of WoW, I have started missing the days of logging on seeing my old friends and just spending hours on my rogue without having a care in the world. So I decided to design this set to honor my time playing this game and all the wonderful people I've met through it.

Let's get down to business!

Since this set is in the very early stages, I have only worked on the color scheme of the set. I have yet to decide on what sort of profiles it would be (I'm thinking SA), and develop the novelty keys for it (could anyone recommend me a free program to do this on? I've only used the keyboard layout editor to design this so far). If enough interest is shown then I plan to have this made by SP.

Nice to see another SA profile set being floated here.

Let's get to the heart of the colour choice here, firstly the Purple and Dark Grey shade is almost similar hence you won't get a clear differential between those two colours within the keyboard layout.

Hence during low light the letters within the dark grey will disappear or melt into the grey colour.  Maybe change the colours within the dark material so that it's lighter in shade?

Remember that most keyboard users aren't seated in a bright room because they will be seated in front of their Porn, in the dark shade of night  ;D .

make purple text on the white and white text on the grey for contrast maybe.
colors look nice, i think this has potential. its nice to see a set with purple that still looks mature so i will be keeping my eye on this!

i know you said the inspiration is wow but i hope you keep any novelties more neutral/general or make them their own thing for this set.
(i played wow in vanilla with some highschool friends good times)

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll see if there are any other colors that would suit this theme.

Thank you for the kind words! And don't worry I plan to make the novelties applicable to non WoW players - I just used my experience in WoW as inspiration for the color scheme of the set.

Ahh I'm sorry I haven't been updating this, but at the moment I'm learning how to use Inkscape in order to make the novelties. So after I'm happy with the design of the novelties, I'll do a total overhaul of the OP with mock ups of all the sets as I plan to also re do it in Inkscape instead of using  keyboard layout editor to get a more color accurate/ font accurate representation.
