New Cryillic Key Caps at Originative
« on: Thu, 03 April 2014, 20:18:24 »
Was just checking to see if by chance Sherry had any Dolch and I saw these:

http://www.originativeco.com/collections/keysets/products/cyrllic

Look pretty cool, but I'm not sure if I want to make an order there....

Seems weird he would add products.

If only he would make a post or two and let us know he is ok.

After all, we are pretty much his target audience!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yea, I think he would get more business if he would communicate more!

It's been there for ages.

I thought it was up for the "group buy", then taken down along with a bunch of other stuff, and now reposted without any notes that it's not yet produced (is it produced now? if so, why no updated photograph).  It's really not quite clear what that listing is doing, whether it's a restarted group buy or whether the caps have actually been made.

The set has very high quality appearance. The combination of DS with pad printed looks really nice. Good finding.

They are GMK thick ABS, same as what you'd find on Cherry keyboards.

I thought so, but it seems pretty cheap for a GMK set compared to some of the GB's here.

Looks like it's the same price as any other set from sherry. I'm not that surprised.

I guess because you have the option of just buying a 87 key set instead of a full set like most GB's.

Most GBs do 87 kit and a numpad kit

this all seems normal to me

I was thinking of Ivan's GB where the base set came with 87 kit, numpad, and some included extras and came out to $120.

As photoelectric has said - they are DEFINITELY GMK. Black legends are doubleshot, red legends are pad printed. The pad printing is high quality, and there is a clear coat on top so it won't wear away for years.

Would the clear coat make the keys more slippery or feel different from normal caps?

I've never had a set with clear coat before. Ask dubsgalore, he's got some OG cyrillic pad printed Cherry keycaps from a G80-5000HAMRB

I have some  pad-printed caps on my WEY, and they feel approximately the same as used more shiny ABS caps.

Like pho said before, there's not a huge difference, but it's there. I'm one to notice extremely small details, so I'm not sure everyone would feel it.

after some research as well, we know the pad printing lasts a LONG time, from an article and from a friend's account

Sheraton is MIA we don't even know if he is still running originative, maybe some gangsters busted his kneecaps and took over, emails have went unanswered from many people here.

I feel bad for all the community members who are out hundreds of dollars so far with nothing to show for it and people act like its no big deal that sherry has been MIA for a while now, but he's done it before.

People see hope of shiny new keycaps and throw money at it without any proof they exist, I'm looking forward to seeing these on boards and I'd like to buy a set but not with the way things have went down lately.

This was my understanding of how the site was running now a days based on other users experience, so i stayed very far from it. However i couldn't resist it and decided to gamble on this beautiful set. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly, but everytime i mention originative, people always respond with "oh no" :/ i wish they accepted paypal, i wouldnt feel so uneasy about my purchase.

So long as you know the charge-back procedures/limitations on your credit card I suppose gambling is ok.

And for the record I'm just disappointed really that sheraton, if he is still running originative, has chosen to be so silent. I appreciate anyone who will take a risk to get us the key caps we want however no communication and ignoring peoples problems cancels that out.

I'm not losing sleep over a $10 spacebar that I may or may not ever get but people are still waiting on aluminum cases, entire keysets, keyset fixes (this is almost worse than not having the keyset, having an almost complete keyset but missing a cap or two with no word on fixes), and others who ordered smaller items that they need to complete projects.

I'm with you 100% Ray. I won't begrudge folks their interesting keysets – and this seems like the only reasonable place to get GMK Cyrillic – but I'll be personally refusing to do business with Originative until these wrongs are righted. I'm thankfully not one of the many affected, but obviously taking a stand through email is ineffective, and the only way I can imagine to get through to Sherry is for enough people to refuse to do business with him.

I think this thread may be joined with the other: "Is it Originative still in business?"

I hope you'll post some photos when/if you'll receive it. I'm planning to get a Granite set, but to have a spare decent set never hurts - even if cyrillic there is pad-printed. And price is pretty good.

Nice one - congratulations!

Perhaps there is hope.

The thing that strikes me most is the ISO enter and 1x keys, but no 1.25x left shift...

But so far, the legends seem fairly well done, and there are far fewer flaws in this than in my Olivetti or Skidata sets. Either it's good luck or GMK has jumped up their quality control.

I put a cherry replica ESC on this, and it's oh so beautiful. Pics will come when it's brighter out.

Was just checking to see if by chance Sherry had any Dolch and I saw these:

http://www.originativeco.com/collections/keysets/products/cyrllic

Look pretty cool, but I'm not sure if I want to make an order there....

Seems weird he would add products.

complete crap shoot: if he actually has your item in stock you might get it shipped. if he has run out, i think he just takes your money and laughs all the way to the bank.
