[IC] Brass Keycap
« on: Fri, 04 November 2016, 13:46:13 »
Hello everyone,

First off this is my first foray in to keycap design so lots of feedback is welcome.

Here's the cap

Some info on the cap:
Material: Brass C260
Construction: CNC milled from a solid piece of brass.
Finish: Light Bead Blasting
Stem: MX
Weight: ~12g

The weight may be a little concerning. I would say MX Reds and Gateron Clears are definitely out and there could be slow return on some other switches. If this is a deal breaker I could re-assess the design and see where material could be removed.

As for the design itself, I've felt there have been a lot of "Apple-y" looking stuff (not just keyboards) with aluminum and rounded edges everywhere so I thought having virtually no visible rounded edges could be interesting and I've always like the look of brass and the fact that over time it would tarnish and take on a life of its own in a way.

I've contacted a few manufacturers and starting to get quotes. As this would be my first cap and buy I really want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row (and that there is interest) before moving forward. For this first go around I would limit the buy to 100 caps.

Let me know what you think!
