Novatouch 60%?
« on: Wed, 15 January 2014, 12:18:09 »
Are there any plans for introducing a smaller keyboard with the new Topre/Cherry MX compatible switches? Something like the HHKB where Esc and tilde are both available as separate keys. Please make it so :-X

There is always a possibility. We are first launching 45g uniform TKL. Depending on market demand and feedback, we will look at other sizes & weight selections.

Yeah I'm sure they'll get right on that!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

*Cough* 55g por favor.  I'm still getting a 45g for the lols.

CM is getting pretty progressive in its keyboards.  The first company to really mass produce a mx green switch keyboard.  Now this!

I vote for 55g full size silenced...market it to those who game in the night and dont' want to disturb anyone. win, win.

60% would be awesome if ideas from HHKB (dedicated ESC and tilde keys) and Leopold FC660C (dedicated arrow keys but not the dorky Ins and Del in the layout) could be borrowed. I might still get the TKL based on what reviews say about the build quality and how the Topre switches feel with MX keycaps.

+1 for silenced. I can't believe I didn't include that in my crazy wish list. It would be nice if the upstroke sound isn't harsh so mods like this aren't necessary http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=49046.msg1056220#msg1056220

I want you to sell the inserts on their own, because I want to mod the hell out of a Realforce 86..

Or even better - make an 84 key or 86 key version of the Novatouch so that we can use original Cherry keycaps.

I'd like to see a 60% based on the HHKB Pro 2, but adding the following or making them options:

1. 55g Topre switches with option for silenced switches.
2. Steel plate.
3. Extensively reconfigurable via DIP switches and/or programmability.
4. Metal case option.
5. Bluetooth option.
6. Forthcoming micro USB connector with C2 rotational symmetry (if this is not already going to be standard).

Dream on feature:

Capacitive buckling spring switches.

Only hardcore keyboard nerdlingers would buy a 40%, and I highly doubt even those guys use them on a regular basis.  There's no business case for it.

That does sound really good. But, you might be aiming too high.

At least 45g and 55g options from the start would be ideal :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Are topre switches any good for gaming? Is CM marketing the Novatouch as a gaming board?

We would all have to buy double the amount.

Then, after purchasing we would have to say how much we love the tkl then say how we would love a 60 percent so much more.

My wishlist:

1. Metal plate.
2. Novatouch stems.
3. 55g domes.
4. Standard 60% ANSI layout.
5. Fully programmable, including Fn layer.

Not as important, but nice to have:
6. Modular controller with 2 options, standard Mini USB and Bluetooth with Mini USB.

And for later models, a silent option and a metal case option....

I think it would sell like hotcakes if the price is right (under $250).
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.
