Very unusual!  I don't know the switch type in this particular model, although the PSR-410 variant appears to use some type of "rubber contact" mechanism over the underlying circuit board. Could it be a simple rubber dome switch? Or perhaps a capacitance type switch? I don't see any reference to foil or foam but the internals of the "rubber contact" are unclear.
