Looking good, TJ. Enjoy your feeling of oneness with cup rubber.

As you know, I've tried cup rubber a couple times before with the 45g and 55g uniform RF and it just hasn't quite clicked.  But this type s hhkb is what I want.  Nice, but quiet thock, good tactile feel and not obnoxious.  The price is still redic, but then again I traded the quite ridiculously priced lz-gh I had for it, too.

I just wish I could keep these caps and sell the AE55g because I don't think I'll use it that much.

There is definitely a big difference in typing feel between a 45g HHKB and a 45g Realforce. After adding dental bands, lubing and 55g rubbers to my HHKB, it's pretty much perfect for me.

So I think I'm a fully topper convert now with this type s, but I got a RF AE55g at the same time, so I thought "hm, I like these RF caps..."

I think this would look even better on a black hhkb. but looks also nice on the white one

TJ, I like both looks, but after you get acclimated to the layout of the HHKB, I would suggest switching back to the original blank caps.  They look a little better, IMO, and they make you a better typist, since you are forced to touch type and never look down again.  The trickiest part is learning to touch type the number row, but you will eventually get the hang of it.  I have to admit however, that typing my passwords is still a royal pain in the arse for me (cuz I use numbers, letters, caps, and symbols, like ur supposed to do), and I switched over to using blank keycaps like three months ago.  So the learning curve is steep, but it's worth it.  I feel like a real typist now.  (and a real hacker, lelz)  (see I even use the 1337 sp34k l!ng0).

And here are some pics of all of my Topre keyboards:

LOL.  I'm just starting to convert every Topre keyboard over to blanks.  If you look closely you will see the transformation is beginning.  I just need to buy moar blank sets.  I don't have Bro Caps' money, so I have to do it a little slower.

Hey longweight, how did you remove the logo?
I'm also interested to hear how longweight got the logo off.  Can you tell a difference in the texture where the logo used to be?

I've been cleaning up a bunch of older keyboards and noticed Mr. Clean Magic Eraser took off marks very easily, so I would venture a guess that it might take the label off with enough elbow grease.  Also thinking toothpaste or some other type of rubbing compound might do the job without marring the textured surface too much, or making it shiny and smooth.

I dampened the sound with some foam inserts, so it's got a nice thock to it. Definitely changes the feel imo. From a plastic case to metal, feels much more dense.

Quite hard, actually (twss).

The main reason being that the slider housing is built into the top of the case. You cant have metal sliding against plastic. So you would need to kill a Realforce to steal the housings, essentially.

Unless you can get parts, or kill an RF.. it aint gonna happen.

I took the silver case too but with white set keycaps. I don't like the 10th keycap on the silvercase like in their picture.
The graphite one looks great with a 10th keycap set tho.

Oh could you also test the usb port ? can you put some externall dd on it ? or is it like hhkb ? can't test it right now and never bothered...

My (potato) pics are somewhere on this thread if you want to see white keycap on this silver case : http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=40658.msg904061#msg904061

Anyway nice case congratz !

That looks fantastic!  Great job :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

does the new case affect the sound and/or feel of the board?

I dampened the sound with some foam inserts, so it's got a nice thock to it. Definitely changes the feel imo. From a plastic case to metal, feels much more dense.

would it kill the Koreans to make an HHKB aluminum case?  I mean how hard can it be?

Quite hard, actually (twss).

The main reason being that the slider housing is built into the top of the case. You cant have metal sliding against plastic. So you would need to kill a Realforce to steal the housings, essentially.

Unless you can get parts, or kill an RF.. it aint gonna happen.
Yeah, this. I was gonna maybe try and make one, then I ran into this problem.
