Swapped out the key caps on my Topre RF 103UB-55G and my Type Heaven...

Exchanged some keys between my HHKB Pro 2's, and added a red 'Esc' key for both...

Thanks guys, four is enough for me.....will be looking for MX Clear, White and Gray keyboards from here on. I already have mechanical keyboards with MX Red/Black/Brown/Blue/Green/Clear, will be going for other switch types. BTW, of the four Topre, I'm using three of them as my daily drivers for three rigs.....along with a Leopold FC660M Clear and a Keycool 84 LED Black.

Since you have 4 which is your most favorite and why? I only have 2 Topre's a RF 87u 55g and HHKB Pro 2 and I like both but when it comes down to it the HHKB is my favorite of any keyboard.

For me, it's about the feel and the typing experience, and I've always been a sucker for heavier switch types, hence the 103UB-55G is my fave (wanted to get an 87U 55G like yours, but couldn't source one at the time). Now, IF I can lay my mitts on a HHKB 55G, it'd be a given that would be my fave......the HHKB Pro layout is boss imo (granted, it takes some getting used to).

That is what I hope to do when I have the funds is to put some 55g domes in a HHKB Type S but I would have to get both RF 55g + the HHKB to do that. Others have done it and say its not hard to accomplish, the cost is the hardest part.

Padawan, how do you like your Leopold clear? I work in a small open office space and want to replace my Blues for something comparable but not clicky.

It's stupid hard to find Clears in a smaller, tenkeyless layout.

Typing on my Clear now, it's like a Black but with a bump and the spring is very responsive. If you can deal with Black but prefer a bump, then Clear would be right up your alley. As I've said, I love heavier/stiffer switch types which is why I am not keen on Blue and Brown anymore. Please bear in mind that while Clears do not have that 'click', it isn't exactly quiet especially if you bottom out the stroke.....like me. I enjoy the noise actually....

Topre RF keyboards in white really have that old skool thing going, like the looks but can't justify another Topre.....I might crack and get an FC660C though as I'm into 60%, depends on what the local distributor's  going to sell it at....price-wise that is.

Do the higher keycaps have much impact on how the keyboard feels?  I am thinking of something like the difference between OEM and Cherry profile keycaps on MX switches.

I just got the board today but yes.  The rows seem closer than on my 91u.  What I am really noticing is the deep spherical on the home row.  I really like sphericals.  These are super deep so they take some getting used too.

Oh snap!  Busted.  I guess I gotta buy moar Topre keyboards.  lol.

The problem is that the only Topre keyboard that I want to buy right now is another HHKB Pro 2 Type-S.  Which seems a bit redundant.  But I might get one for the wife if she will agree to blanks.  The aluminum case looks cool, but IMO, it doesn't do anything to improve the typing feel of the keyboard.  But that won't stop me from getting one.  So who knows?  Also my keyboard budget is weighted heavily towards Clacks, so that is also a problem.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
