Very interesting and cheap. Does anyone have any opinions on this? I could use a new laptop...

Chromebooks are a great coffee house machine if you're just looking to do random stuff/web surf/read. Can't treat it like an actual computer though, so don't expect to get serious work done on it.

EDIT: It's also an older version of this: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=chromebook_acer_c710_snbssd
Current: HHKB Pro 2, 87u 55g 10AE, FC600C, Model M 1391401

More importantly - can you run a proper operating system on it?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Lol. I googled this earlier today. Chromebook can't run .exe

Good for Web, Gmail, and other Googly stuff.

I thought Chromebooks were required, by spec, to allow you to bypass the default install.

Best case:  I can throw Slackware or something on it.

Worst case: someone will be playing Facebook games with her legs up.

Also, caveat:  This vendor charges tax in some states; it was 139 and change for me because of this.  OTOH, maybe that means it will be shipped from a local source and arrive quickly.
