Title: questions on aviator cable build
Post by: RockWood on Thu, 22 October 2020, 08:31:56
So I built my first aviator cable.  I had bought supplies but ended up using an old anne pro usb C cable because I mistakenly bought silicone sheathed usb wire.  I noticed that the usb C cable was unshielded but figured if it was ok for one keyboard it would be ok for this build.  The build looks nice but I noticed that the cable itself is getting hot which I guess means it has too much resistance.  I'm wondering do i try to redo the soldering? Should I just wait until the PVC usb cable  comes in because the cable is not quality enough to have a gx16 in the line?

Thanks

it the whole cable is getting hot you have a large current draw somewhere, likely a partial short if the connector get hot then yeah you likely either have a bad connector or bad solder join either way it is not normal for a cable to significantly heat up, it even can be dangerous for your computer, either way i do not think the cable would be too thin or low quality to work but that you may need to check your soldering.

thanks for the reply. I will resolder the connections and report back.
