Keyboards / Re: Unpopular Keyboard Opinions
« Last post by TomahawkLabs on Tue, 23 April 2024, 09:31:03 »

r/mk is basically just people showing what they got, which is not even a bad thing, but the mechanical keyboards subreddit really should have more proper discussion.

I think a big factor is reddit and karma and upvotes, which incentivizes people to post things to get more meaningless points, which means that actual discussion is less incentivizes than drama and pics because it doesn't give as many upvotes.

That's why social media with like systems is kinda flawed for discussion. Just my 2 cents though.

I've been in the hobby long enough where seeing a new build of the keyset of the month paired with the group buy delivery of the quarter is no longer interesting. The things that I see that really interest me are
1. Custom work (Cases, PCBs, Handwired, etc) by people who are set out to make something that doesn't exist.
2. "Vintage" keyboards and keycaps before the hobby really blew up (Post-Beige, Pre RGB/Gamer where it was low run group buy aluminum keyboards with group buy keycaps like from Signature Plastic)
3. People who want to mod their keyboard or take the hobby further than "I bought the hot keycap set and the cool keyboard that everyone is talking about". (Tape mod, switch lubing/hybriding, etc)

Geekhack seems to have an older user base and people who have been in the hobby longer and likely have a collection of boards or have tested and ran different layouts/keycap profiles, etc. Because it's not just window shopping or ogling other people's keyboards or setups. It's people sharing their love of keyboards with people who want to ask questions and learn more.

No SG or SEA vendor?

Added. iLumkb will be the SEA vendor.

Wouldnt it make more sense to have a completely separate relegendables kit? I have never seen people only mount a single relegendable. Always multiple. At least three on the TKL Nav cluster or on the entire F-row. Or on the Macro columns on XT boards.

I agree, and given the multiple requests, I will find a way to include more Relegendables.

Really wonder how this content war will play out. Netflix is so far ahead.  The only company that can challenge them are the likes of Tencent/ Alibaba.
Mergers, hostile takeovers, purchases and a lot has already happened.

Amazon owns Prime and MGM+ which owns a ton of old school movie companies
Comcast owns Peacock, Dreamworks, Universal Pictures and a ton of old school networks such as NBC, as well as a bunch of music companies.
Disney owns Lucas, Hulu and just about everything else.
Discovery owns a bunch of small and large cable channels and their own streaming service.

I suspect it will settle into 2 or 3 major leagues plus a low end provider such as Netflix.
The weird thing is who wins may not be as obvious as you think, Disney isn't the old Disney, if someone offered enough they'd sell out all or in parts in a heartbeat and Disney+ has been a money pit. Amazon has been shown they aren't infallible and runs the risk of government intervention causing a breakup which would force a selloff. Then you have Comcast who has historically mismanaged their media arm. Discovery could either grow and buy up someone or get snatched up, it's mostly an investment firm and while they have a streaming service it's struggling to find a foothold. Tencent could afford it but I can absolutely see the feds stepping in and blocking anything like that. Apple could also be a wildcard as they have AppleTV and enough capitol to buy their way in, though they may be running out of time if their hold on Iphone lessens due to lawsuits. Google (who also faces monopoly threats) could also make a jump as Comcast is also a major internet cable supplier and if either made this jump, Microsoft could see it as a threat and snatch up something.

These won't be available at unikeyboards right?

Hey mate, It won't be available at UniKeyboards. The vendor list is above and it is finalised. I feel that it should cover most regions.

These are in IC on Unikey's Discord right now. Unless something changed very recently, they should be available from Uni sometime in the future. When that is though, who knows.
Hello, can you link me to the IC on the UniKey's Discord? only see the IC of Strawberry Shortcake switch which is made by HMX. This one is Strawberry Cheesecake made by BSUN.
