Progress towards 20 Units
|+++++++++++++++=====|

SketchUp Render of the finished item.

This is a versatile and attractive switch holder that should appeal to many members of the mechanical keyboard community.

[/center]

Specifications
  • Fabricated from High Quality Stainless Steel
  • Brushed Aluminium finish
  • Supports All MX / Alps compatible switches
  • Small and Portable
  • Versatile and Unique

Potential Uses
  • Switch Tester - try out different switches
  • Artisan Cap Display - store and show off your Cap Collection. Alternatively, an attractive option for cap makers looking to professionally show their wares.
  • Switch Lubrication and Modding station - a useful tool to streamline your modding workflow without taking up space like larger stations
  • DIY macro board - add a teensy for a stylish and customisable macro board.

Here is a render of what it will look like from OpenSCAD

The switch cutouts are from Swill's generator and therefore will definitely work as intended. For proof of this, see these 3D printed prototype cutouts.

Shipping to the US will be £5 untracked and £10 tracked.

So it's just a bent plate, basically?

I could go for one in polished stainless.  Think about doing one with 9 holes, 3x3.

Yes, if you want to call it that :D

3x3 would be interesting but I like 4 because it represents how many fingers you hold on the home row on one hand.

Any ideas on cost? I would be tempted to pick one up for the right price.

Realforce EK45 (Silenced)  |  Realforce 87UW (45g)  |  Realforce 87UWS (Variable)
Filco MJ2 TKL (Cherry Clears)  |  Phantom 87 (78g Gateron Clears)  |  Phantom 86 (67g Zealios)

Would totally depend on the amount of people who ordered. I would like to do it for less than a fiver for one unit though.

With the tool swill released, I think it's easier to just get it cut for yourself.

I'd like to sell them for a small profit, as well as make them for myself.

At $5 each I'd buy 2 at least.

I say that you should look into a switch cutout that can fit both MX and ALPS switches. You won't be able to have notches, however that shouldn't matter for a tester/lube station.

What shape hole can hold MX and Alps switches?

Yeah, the ones from Swill's plate building tool with that shape should work just fine for both MX and Alps.

Swill says that this type would also work for alps. Is he right?

Yes, that's what I was trying to say, but I guess I wasn't very clear.

I might be up for one if it could hold Alps switches :) . Already have a Cherry tester unit... What sort of shipping costs to the UK would this come down to roughly, you think?

I'm also in the UK so shipping should only be a couple quid or possibly even free. It should theoretically hold alps but it's using swills cutouts and some users have had issues putting alps on them.

Ah, if you're in the UK, that'd be very useful :) . Have you got a loose Alps switch that you could try it on?

I have 4 matias switches which I will try when I get a prototype.

Looking for maybe 5 pounds for just the unit, 9 or 10 pounds for the unit with switches and caps. Initially it will offer just matias switches though cherry is potentially an option too. Shipping will be fairly expensive, unless I can possibly get a US seller onboard for you guys.

I would be 100% interested in grabbing one of these.  I find it to be much more difficult to swap springs when the springs aren't attached to anything.  It was much easier to do when they were soldered into my Phantom.

Octagon - 62g Cherry tactile greys
Phantom - 65g Cherry tactile greys
FC660M - Cherry blues
KC60 - Gateron browns

I'd definitely be interested in a 1x4 or any combination really, though I'm located in the US so it wouldn't be worth the overseas shipping at that point :P
