Ghetto Keycap puller OR How I'm cheap and you can be too!
« on: Fri, 09 January 2009, 23:38:41 »
This is my new ghetto keycap puller.  It takes three FREE items :)

Required items:
1. Keyring
2. 2x Bread ties

I made this out of neccesity and the fact that I'm not giving $6 for a keycap puller...

Very comfortable to use.  Combines the benefits of the ring type puller (Better grip) with the wire type puller (useful for all size keys).  It has the added benefit of durability because of it's all metal construction.

tested and working on ALPS (whites), Buckling Springs, MEI Whites and an NMB keyboard.
Can't get enough of them ALPS

I do too.  It actually makes it pretty solid.  When I was using it I didn't feel like I was gonna break it or anything, it felt very durable.

there has got to be a neater solution than the twist-ties though, that can be put on a keyring.

A pair of large paper clips work, but only for small keys when attached to the keyring. You can wrap tape around the clips to stop them from bending out of shape.

I just use my fingers, applying a firm grip.  Works for Cherry keyboards at least.

lol... yeah, I figured that if I didn't make something to keep it in, I'd have the wires bent every which way in a matter of hours.  :)
