APPLE MOUSE REVIEW
BY MICROSOFT WINDOWS

So today, I decided to review a computer mouse made by Apple Inc. Here it is.
30237-0

Unfortunately, the ball inside of it got lost because its protective ring cover fell out.
30239-1

But that didn't stop me! By sticking my finger inside the mouse, I was able to control the rollers in it, move the cursor around the screen, and start up Microsoft Word, where I was able to use my RARE vintage custom Apple keyboard to type a brief message about the mouse.
30241-2
30243-3

Overall, my experience with the Apple mouse was noticeably less than pleasant. If Apple's engineers were better, they would include a spare click button on the bottom of the mouse in case the crappy retaining ring failed and the ball fell out of it. That way, I would not have to turn the mouse over every time I had to click. The mouse would also work much better with a ball in it.

Overall, I would rate this among the absolute worst of my mouse experiences. But there is a moral to this story--if Apple's mice are this terrible, how are their computers? This mouse experience provides good reason to never purchase an Apple product, as it was ugly, dirty, and provided poor functionality. That, my friends, is yet another good reason to switch to Windows today!

It's always nice when there are pictures then the words are less impotent.

Thank god you posted this now. I was just on the fence about purchasing one of these. I will NEVER buy an Apple product now that I can see their quality is completely subpar.

You should try a hockey puck mouse!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I actually used one of these mice for about a year when I owned a Centris.  I actually liked it.  I was 9 or 10 though, my hands were much smaller.

I think I still have one of those lying around at home.

With its ball intact.

A few years ago I came across a lot of dumped Apple Mice in a trash dumpster.  People usually just drop stuff into business dumpsters because it's handy and doesn't cost them anything.

Anyway I opened up each rodent and removed the ball because they made excellent sling shot ammo.  What's so beautiful about the Apple Mouse Balls they were coated in grey rubber like material that seems to adhere to any surface without losing grip.

I managed to extract about 47 of them but later that afternoon slung them into moving trucks and cars along the Great Eastern Highway.  Sweet memories and yes I was once a problem child.

I also found the Mac it belongs to - an ancient beige PowerMac 8400AV something running an ancient version of Mac OS, maybe around 6 or 7.

System 6 is good. It'll run great off of an 800k floppy on a Mac Plus. Beats the hell out of that OSX crap they're making now.

I actually preferred OS 7.5 running on the 350/8600.  I loved that machine for more than 2 years of usage, which was the longest time in my life of owning a single PC, will never happen again unfortunately.

I tried to like OS 8 but always went back to the 7 series  :thumb: .

I remember using one of those Apple mice/computer combo during my early years of elementary... We were forced to use Apple's horrible word processor before they licensed Microsoft's :(

AND THAT'S NOT MICROSOFT OFFICE!

Believe it or not, that is Microsoft Word you see on that screen. I think it's Word 2.0 or something. It was released in 1989. It's real awful to use compared to Word 6.0.

We still have a few ball mouses at work, mainly on the servers.

Every now and again I do give the mouse balls a quick blow.

Believe it or not, that is Microsoft Word you see on that screen. I think it's Word 2.0 or something. It was released in 1989. It's real awful to use compared to Word 6.0.

I still remember using the famous MAC only word processor "ClarisWorks 3.0" under 7.5.  Didn't have the money at that time to buy anything related to Microsoft because ClarisWorks was bundled for FREE on my PowerPC.

It was basically no more sophisticated than a basic typewriter, which served it's purpose back then.

Back in the late 1990's we used ClarisWorks at the school where I worked. Then they changed the name to AppleWorks. Used Appleworks on Mac OS 9.2.2 for over 5 years. And then they upgraded them all to Mac OS X (Mega-Awful Crappy Old **** for Xtremedummies).

I still have one of these gems if anybody is interested.  All you have to do is pay shipping.   Apparently, people actually pay for these on Ebay.

I too still have mine, it surfaced while I was moving house recently along with the keyboard and original Mac.

Ctrl-click which, funnily enough, works on a modern Mac with a three button mouse.

The very BEST PowerPC macs ever made were the 8600/300 (stole the 300Mhz card from a 9600 Pro)  :thumb: .

I still have a grand total of 512mb of edo ram sitting in there, working downstairs in the basement as my Hotline server (still).

The tracking was terrible. And the only acceleration that this Apple mouse had was when I dropped it in the garbage can. At that time, it accelerated at 32 feet per second, minus air resistance.

It sucks! When's Apple going to hire somebody with a brain to design their input devices?

Apparently they haven't done this yet because this thing exists...

So if you ever have buyer's remorse about a keyboard, just visit this thread and realize that THOUSANDS have spent $69 on Apple's Magic Mouse, aka the worst mouse Apple has ever released. The gestures are cool for the 5 seconds you can use them until your wrists start to swell up from the horrible ergonomics of this contraption.

We have to use those at school, or the ones with no right click and scroll wheel at all. Trust me, the new "magic" mouse is really magic. It should be impossible to create a mouse as bad as that one.

'But it looks so elegant' the mac fans say...

That's what happens when you let touchy-feely designers near computer parts.  Idiots.  I miss it when computers didn't look like they had wind tunnel testing.

All of these look like relics of a slow, janky past.

Here’s a computer case (though I prefer mounting it on an articulating arm, rather than Apple’s built-in stand):

Looks like something that belongs on a wall--maybe as an art piece that you just stare at.  Lovely mouse--there's a great review of that on here, lol.

What if you install Windows 98 on them?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

When will the Magic Mouse just work on Magic?  Isn't that misleading if it needs bateries?  Hahahaha...

actually as of a few weeks ago, now you just plugin it in for a half hour and it sucks enough magic out of the wall to last for like a month.

I was also mislead when I bought 5 Harry Potter wands from Amazon in hopes that I would be able to do magic. Instead, I ended up wasting $100 on twigs with LED lights.  ;D :p JK

I think we can all agree that the apple magic mouse is ****. I'm curious however about the magic trackpad. Once upon a time I had to use a macbook for work, and I actually found the touchpad to be much better than on any windows laptop I've tried. So I'm wondering if the desktop equivalent of that, the magic trackpad, is actually any good. President Windows, sir, can I kindly request that you review this device? I'd like to hear your opinion on it. Thanks!

I'll save you the trouble.  I got RSI in 15m using it at the apple store.  This was v1, but I think the most recent version isn't too much better.  Just a horrible idea that looks pretty.

NO IT'S NOT. IF CRAPPLE® DIDN'T MAKE THE MOUSE SUCH A PIECE OF GARBAGE, THEN IT WOULD BE IN USE ON MY DESK INSTEAD OF THROWN ON THE FLOOR WHERE USERS CAN TRIP ON IT. THIS DESIGN ASPECTS MAKES CRAPPLE® MICE A SAFETY HAZARD.

WITH THAT IN MIND, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DISPOSE OF ALL CRAPPLE® MICE IN YOUR POSSESSION IMMEDIATELY!
