Certainly the -wave of homely actors-..

That's fine,  but playing the game made no sense, I don't understand how that software could replace real world currency, since owners of Land could deny Farming, and everyone would starve in real life..

Alternatively, the Non-owners could rebel and kill their despots..

In what way could anyone possibly be so thoroughly attached to that software..

NO AMOUNT of Vidya is a replacement for HUNGER their apparent Homelessness..

Does the book explain WHY people are so attached to the system even against starvation and homelessness  ?

In the book it's more that they use it for school/every day life etc. it's not just a video game.

This is similar to the upper-class's myopic view of the poor..  If only those lazy bastards would pick up a book..

I don't think they were so poor that they were starving, just crappy living conditions.  He's fat at the start of the books.
