At first the towhee (who seldom comes around in decent weather) wouldn't tolerate the wren (who is a regular user at all times) but after tiring of the wren's persistence began to allow him around the periphery to scavenge excess.

It's 5-10F lower than even our normal 10 year low, and it's lasting twice as long (southwest).
I'm amazed the orange crop isn't dead.

There was once I remember, I think it was January 1985, when it was much colder for much longer around here, but that was an all-time record-breaker.

What a beautiful couple of photos. Growing up in a small midwest town. I can HEAR that photo with the street lamp.
-
Just around freezing right now.
-
It's -15C right now, -24C with the wind chill. It was a bit cooler last week. Took a screenshot of the weather app for posterity.
-
Was -15°C earlier today. Stockholm, Sweden. -13°C now.
The temperature is all over the place. Was above freezing last week and will be above freezing tomorrow.

Alberta. This is pretty extreme. But we had a very mild Nov and Dec, so I guess it kind of balances out.
Extreme Alberta cold expected to shatter more temperature records

Wow. I've only been to Calgary, Banff and Jasper in Alberta, but I assume you live way further north?
(man, Canadian provinces are absurdly huge xD)

They live in Devon, AB.
It was -1 yesterday as I cycled to work. Did that in the below freezing temperatures for the first time in 9 years.

cool history and beautiful land, also I want to see the Koenigsegg HQ

I was talking with family and saying in December, "Wow, it's an unseasonably warm winter so far!"
Poor choice of words as I'm sitting around about half a meter of snow, -30 celsius windchill, and roads frozen over haha

Fun fact, the Koenigsegg own the rights and tooling to the unreleased Subaru flat 12 that was being developed for Formula 1. After Subaru abandoned the project he bought it.

Iri figured it out. It was on the top of the screenshot. Actually I work in Devon, but live near by. All part of the greater Edmonton area. Central Alberta. Although it didn't really matter. The jet stream was so far south that pretty much the whole province was covered in arctic air.
Nice to hear Chyros has made it out here. If you made it to Banff and Jasper, you've seen the best parts. I actually have family in Jasper and spent a couple summers working there. I always have to remind myself that people come from all over the world to see those places and I have them right in my backyard.

Banff and Jasper were great, it was just starting to snow and I saw an elk stag standing in the snow playing with his babies. Quite happy with that picture ^^ .
BC was also great though, that's probably the most we've seen in Canada. We went all the way to a super remote nothing called Bella Coola where we saw a grizzly bear family from very close by. And then Vancouver Island plus some extras, etc. Really gorgeous trip all in all, we loved Canada ^^ . Exceptionally nice people as well!

Woo-Hoo!
It is above freezing for the first time since Sunday afternoon!
edit - that only lasted mere hours, it looks like we won't thaw again until next Monday afternoon
-
It's currently cold enough to make going outside unpleasant, yet not cold enough to have decent amounts of snow. Everything is gray and depressing.

It's been this weird wave. Not to be negative but, you know how a flame flickers and then blows out. That's what the climate feels like right now. It's like, bro check your score, this is about it.

Now it too damn hot
for real but then its supposed to go back down the rest of the week like WTF :))
-
I would love to plant my garden soon, but feel that there is still a big freeze somewhere down the pike.

Been reading up on dat garden magazine.
Growing out the soil cover now with clovers, and seedlings sprouts out in pots. When the time comes they should be taller than the clovers , so they can go straight down.
The soil cover maintains mycelium condition and soil temp

Now it too damn cold again with strong winds
