I thought the hhkb layout for the gh60 uses a 7x spacebar.

Will these plates have switch top removal?

If these plates allow switch top removal I'll bump my order to 2 plates. Not fussed if it costs more, I've got two plates here already but they're just universal plates and I know I'll wind up wanting to change springs or stems some time in the future.

Yes, as all the other plates I have ran, they will allow for switch top removal

SWITCH TOOLS PLSSSSSSSS. No seriously. I need these switch tools.

I still have a few pairs of stainless steel switch tools, I just haven't sold them yet

here's a picture of a cp2 sheet brushed at ~400 grit then given a rough lap at 2000 grit with alumina wetsanding

you can see how it desn't quite do shine; it's always a bit matte and has a dark tint to it. the surface tends more towards luster than stainless.

I'm waffling. I'd love the Ti plate just for the geek cred but the cost ...? Hmm.

But the 60% I'm hoping for is Spirit's ALPs project, hopefully coming out soon. Let's assume I drew up a file (I think I have the necessary information to do that) I'd like to know the cost of the thing before I say no I'm not in.

Also if TKL support grows to the right region I'd like to hear about that ... a phantom Ti plate in 7bit layout would make me giddy. As much for the hit to my wallet as anything but still.

Count me as interested but broke, hmm?

Yeah it can do 7x but I think it can also do 6x.

unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

I am a guaranteed order for a set of switch tools. It doesnt sound like it would happen but I would also be very interested in a 75% plate for my Filco TKL (depending upon price ...).

Realforce EK45 (Silenced)  |  Realforce 87UW (45g)  |  Realforce 87UWS (Variable)
Filco MJ2 TKL (Cherry Clears)  |  Phantom 87 (78g Gateron Clears)  |  Phantom 86 (67g Zealios)

right now we're kind of scrambling to see what else can cut with the drawings we have ready. if the_beast has a 75% drawing ready then it might be possible to get one cut.

the trick here is that you pay for your material and cuts before we order the material from the supplier. we're trying to maximize the amount of material we order from the supplier for volume discounts, so the more the merrier _as long as a drawing exists or is made_.

One problem is that my laser guy hasn't cut Ti before, he can, his laser is 4000 watts. But since this is his first time, I can't say that these are going to be perfect....

Also, I emailed him for a quote, but I'm not sure he can give me one since he hasn't worked with the material. I should hear back from him Monday

If you can put links to or pictures of the plates that you already have available.  Even if you just link to this page with the name associated.  I understand that it may not be exactly the same thing that will go to production (you might do cutouts differently for example), but at least we can get some interest numbers associated with layouts you have available.

I think this will help with interest and making the metal more affordable.

Oh, and put 'The_Beast Switch Tool' in the title and the thread will get a lot more traffic.  :P

the switch tools should be pretty plug and play. the plates are experimental. large plates are even more experimental. the point of this exercise is to have fun with a cool new material. keep that in mind.

Can you give an estimate on how much more they will cost?

asssuming one sheet of this material to be cut only with switch tools, can you give a rough estimate on how much would a single switch tool cost?

Switch tools are just going to be fillers since they are small. Plates are the main thing being cut

no, we can't. the laser has never cut Ti before and the cutting shop has absolutely no idea what tolerances, setup time and rough finishing it going to cost or look it.

the finish will be something like a 4B matte. no options, as we aren't sending anything to a finishing shop as most finishing shops will not deal with titanium and the cost would be very large

I was thinking of trying to anodize the titanium plate, I've seen some small items made of titanium that were absolutely gorgeous in a multi-colored green/purple hue.  One of my garage sale finds last year was a regulated DC power supply, sounds like exactly what I'd need to try making hydrogen bombs colored titanium at home.

Someone reading this may be able to help...

I would like to get a plate which allows you to take the tops of switches off without desoldering each time. I know they exist but I don't know how they differ from a standard plate? Are they manufactured completely differently or just with extra holes where you would press to remove the switch tops?

Ideally a 60% ISO poker 2 plate that does this would be my ideal plate :)

How confident is your laser guy that these will work out well? I know there's some risk involved because this is a new thing, but if there's some significant chance that this first batch will be messy I'd rather wait.

If you're feeling good about it, I'm confirming for this layout:

I'd be in for one with the "ANSI 1.5x with short R-shift" layout from the GH60 buy.
