Is this actually going to happen? SP111 GB is happening now. I'd rather save some money and get the VEA r2, but don't want to miss SP111 if VEA r2 isn't happening

I mean if you read PainMaster’s last posts it’s hard to believe the GB isn’t going to happen. He said around November, which doesn’t mean November... admittedly this has been a long IC.

The second you spend your GB money on something else is when the GB will start.

Well we're now past January aswell... Still no updates ?  :(
Some nice keebs are coming this February, but the VE.A 2nd stays my priority.
I think at this point everybody is ok for waiting longer, but having an idea of when the keyboard might come out would help us knowing when and where to throw our money.

I have not been in this community long, but the whining about updates does seem to fly in the face of expected patience to the rest of us.  I realize that there are people of all ages that are interested in keyboards, and younger members are going to post "are we there yet" messages all the time, but really, let's be more patient.  Some project runners just aren't the most communicative.  Especially if they're creating kits as a hobby.  I'm looking forward to this one, especially at the reduced price mentioned

There's a huge middle ground between obnoxiously bumping a thread once a week and asking someone to check in once a month—and especially expecting them to post an update on a project when it blows by a projected date. An inability to take 30 seconds to swing by a thread and say something like "Life is interfering; I'll post more when I can" does not inspire confidence in a person's ability to keep the project on track once they actually have cash in hand.

I'm a freelance professional, and while obviously it's not a perfectly parallel situation, I literally cannot imagine not giving reasonable updates on a project I was running.

This is an interest check
Yeah, and part of what determines my "interest" is how reliable the person running the GB is likely to be (if you disagree, you may wish to join my upcoming group buy for a bridge in Brooklyn). Dropping off the planet during an IC isn't remotely the same as doing it during a GB, but you're certainly going to have overlap, and the most responsible GB runners will also be responsible IC runners.

It's especially eyebrow-raising when a user has logged into the site but hasn't updated. Personally, I'd have more confidence in someone who completely disappeared for months and then gave an adequate update when they returned than someone who's around but silent. The former may just have **** going on in their life, while the latter is more likely to be someone who falls into a "gets distracted or overwhelmed > misses deadline > feels ashamed > doesn't update because they feel ashamed > is further distracted or overwhelmed by the fact that they're now even farther behind the deadline" sort of cycle that just spirals out of control, because the longer it goes on, the harder it is for them to feel capable of just biting the bullet and digging themselves out of it.

I mean it's def just an interest check, but how ICs are handled and the communication therein heavy influence my participation in the eventual group buy. Def up to the individual.

Bugging a busy person to provide updates in an interest check and placing your happiness on their ability/willingness to respond when there isn't anything to say is a recipe to burn-out quick in this hobby.

This person hasn't taken any of your money and has absolutely no obligation to fulfill this GB. That said, I'm pretty sure he will because it's clear there was effort being put in. Just be glad he hasn't chimed in months after taking all your money to say he was in the hospital... then just goes radio silent and never ships.

I mean sure, there's always worst case scenarios. And there's better too.

I guess it just shocks me personally that someone whose excited enough to release a project they clearly love and worked hard on can't find several minutes to make a post after a self-set deadline has come and gone. I mean I don't care how busy your life is. It's 3 minutes at most. Doesn't seem crazy imo. Makes me question how transparency will be after they take our money. Haha.

And they're not bugging him. They're showing interest and wondering what happened. Most of these posts and back and forths are coming from people jumping on those eager to find out what's happened. I mean I'm not even sure he's here to be bugged. Lol

Exactly. I'm just as annoyed as any other reasonable person with those asking for updates on a genuinely unreasonable schedule (or requesting **** that's clearly out of scope), but I don't get this obsession with white knighting people who can't even be bothered to address a self-imposed deadline months after it's passed, let alone accurately estimate their timelines and adjust them as warranted.

It's like people think there's some sort of deadly allergy to accountability, where if we expect anything of anyone, we're going to drive them off and never hear from them again.

For the first round of VE.A the creator himself did not expect the intense amount of interest and it overwhelmed him (understandably). This is one of the reasons it went to Massdrop. Keep in mind the number of interested parties is much greater than the first round and I am sure he does not want to disappoint.

Basically he can take all the time he wants and if you don’t want to wait then buy another board because asking for updates won’t make it go any faster. A project this big is not easily forgotten so give him time.

You also really can’t treat this as you would a business because this is his hobby and no money has been exchanged up until now. No one owes anyone anything at this point.

I hope it happens but if not, that’s OK too. In the end people, it is just a board.

I mean no one has told others not to believe here.   They simply asked for info and have formed their own decisions based on lack information. As you yourself have told them to.

That said, it's rough that the first GB was stressful for him. They're definitely stressful things. Hopefully we find out more info soon.
