I like trying new ones out, but selling is such a pain.

Sell, trade, cycle through them daily.

If they are worth at least $10-$15 + shipping and fees, sell them on ebay.

Otherwise, give them to acquaintances using junk keyboards or donate them to charity.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Plan on losing money each time you buy something, get sad and don't buy more keyboards.

I like to put them in a pile, get anxious and mutter to myself about how I should sell them. Wait about a month and forget I have them and then do it all over again when the new pile shows up in the post.

Selling is not that bad. Until now I sold 4 keyboards and plenty of other stuff all thanks to local trades and mechmarket. Try buing used or on sale so you won't be at loss.

I am also confused by this concept of 'selling' keyboards.  Just keep acquiring them... forever.

I've been donating them to Goodwill. Keep wondering if anyone who appreciates them ever finds them.

If you have a spare vintage and/or unusual keyboard, by all means please do sell it on a collector's forum or eBay so that it could go to a good home.

Even some rubber domes can scissor domes could be of interest. Thrift stores and charity shops throw away those things that don't sell in due time, and that is such a waste.

As long as I keep it in the double digits it's ok. I have thrown away a couple that I didn't want contaminating my collection though, including a hhkb layout (hate).

Selling seems like a pain to me.  Buying is easy and exciting.  I doubt I'll ever come to a point where I think I have too many keyboards.  When I'm old though, if I have no one close to me who is interested, I'll probably donate or sell mine, so they can go to good homes.

Just as others said, you can never have too many. There are ones you like and you keep, others you trade/sell.

I know it's fun to joke about never having too many, but yes you can have too many. It stops being funny when you have 120+ (like I used to) keyboards and realize how much time and money you've wasted on them. As it is, I have a box full of them that I want to sell, but I can't bring myself to take the time to meticulously photograph, document, list, ship, etc.

Keep buying more and once you have enough, start to tile your bathroom walls with them.

That way you've always something to play with when you're bored.

I know what you're thinking, "OMG you're such a Genius :-* I would have never though of that ..." blablabla. Yea I know, thank me later now get to work.

I sell them or give them to friends people who will use and appreciate them.

I like keyboards that I can use. I don't want to be a keyboard collector.

I do make an exception for my Model Ms. I haven't used those in a very long time, but when I eventually move to a bigger place where noise isn't such a concern, I do plan to return them to service.

What is your definition of "too many"? I'm currently enamored with HHKB, so I have four of them: two for home (desk and couch), one for work, and one for travel. I'm getting a fifth (Tokyo60) for layout experimentation/modding, and that doesn't include the odds and ends Vortex keebs and TKLs that I used before converting to the One True 60% Layout.

That's subjective. I have probably 30-40 at home right now and they are overwhelming.

At least with keyboards I always try to get different layout / form factor / switch type so it's meaningful to keep a few different ones around because they're different enough to be different.  So at the moment I don't feel too bad for having 12 keyboards.

On the other hand I should really sell off my extra headphones but like you guys said I've been too lazy to take pictures and post online and meeting people in person to sell them.  I only need 1 headphone for work (at home I use speaker) and I have 2 headphones that can sell for $400 CAD each (about $310 USD) so it's quite a bit of money and a few that will sell for around $100 USD so I should really just get down and do it sigh.

It's really hard to hold back on buying more so I've just started rebuilding my current keyboards because a lot had minor issues that made me not exactly want to use them or just switched I am not really in to.

As with anything I collect - like retro video games, the general order is - accumulate accumulate, start trading / selling to accumulate more!! Ideally I'd like to have one vintage board for old computer hijinks, one board for work (tkl - 1800 size), and 2-3 for home usage. I'm over my limit now, especially with vintage boards, so it's time to move em along, ideally for something that takes up a lot less space!
