In Atlanta we have a solution for that. Never go outside. :D

It's not like the meetup will be outside.
But... that's like the main point of traveling, no? To walk around and see the sights? Why bother having the meetup in a city at all then? :P

I'll gladly take high heat and low dew points over high heat and swampy air.

My vote is DENVER because weed and better weather than Vegas!
I do like Atlanta tho! They have great food and some of the beeest strip clubs!! and it's pretty close to me! So thats cool too!
but i don't care. I'll be there either way I'm sure! :p

Voted. Denver 2020 let's go!
-
Vegas is perfect for conventions in general not to mention the plethora of other things to do, so I'm throwing my support there. Denver is a great back up plan though!
-
Atlanta! So That I can drive there! :thumb: :-*
-
denver is cool and all, but Vegas is built for things like this
-
Where my Atlanta boys at? Don't fail me like last time. :'(
-
LAS VEGAS!!!! I will show any friends where the bestest food is! :D
-
denver baby
the thinner atmosphere will make your switches feel lighter

All solid choices :thumb:

We were already talking about just renting out a strip club and having the meet there...can throw key caps and what not.

Pittsburgh for sure.
-
if it's not in NYC i can't afford to go in the first place so i'm abstaining until it's an option
-
If it was in Vegas at the same time as the Star Trek convention, I might be able to hit two cons with one bird... (wait, thats now how it goes...)
-
Anywhere but ATL! :p
-
Denver or Vegas both very legit choices.
-
Las Vegas 100%! The regional community would love this for sure :thumb: :thumb:

Haha , you should see ontario right now.
It was 44° outside
-
I'm all-in for Las Vegas (See what I did there?) :)
Edit: Also, it doesn't look like there's ever been a Keycon yet that has been remotely close to the west coast? Show those of us who are closer to the Pacific some love.
-
I'm in for Vegas due to cheap flights in and lodging. Also there's a ton of not-weed related things to do :))
-

Like hookers and black jack ;)
-
Vegas simply because of the great location and so many things to do, much cheaper prices. Don't care about weed.. isn't what I think of when I think of the community.
-
Vegas sounds great tbh!
-
Also, it doesn't look like there's ever been a Keycon yet that has been remotely close to the west coast? Show those of us who are closer to the Pacific some love.
KeyCon 2014 was in Mountain View, CA. ;D
It's only the last few years that have been east coast centric. Earlier on, it was really hard to get the east coasters to band together for meetups. I remember that New York of all places didn't have a local meetup until surprisingly late.
-
Denver hands down for me, as I quite doubt I'd be able to make it to either of the other locations.
-
Neither. Can we get a California location pretty please with a cherry on top ;)
-
Philadelphia! Norcal meetup is already enormous.

Ah! Okay, I somehow managed to overlook Keycon 2014 when going back to check! Good to know!

I giggled when I read this haha!
-
Vegas would be best.
-
Awwwe man I was so excited to go to New York next year! We love it there and were dying for an excuse to go back. Didnt know this changes each year. Denver would be pleasant! Peaceful and fun. Haha Booper loves the strip clubs and weed. Whoa! :P Mittyzz... Youre funny as hell.. Toss them caps! :p Honestly Vegas would be dope to! Been there before but could hit up the strip! lol
-
Hopefully Denver wins out!!!!
-
I'll pipe in with Denver or Atlanta from the three options at the top of this thread, but my true vote is Philly.
-
Denver pls
-
Well since I actually had to vote I picked Denver. Atlanta is too sweaty (Plus ATL is the worst airport I've tried to fly out of), and Vegas is too hot (plus there's no way I'll bring enough money to have all of the fun Vegas has to offer).
-
I don't think Denver or Vegas is a bad choice. Vegas has better infrastructure/public transit options(in my opinion). Denver has prettier scenery. Both have great restaurants and good weather depending on the month. Either way I'm just glad to see some non east coast choices.
-
Vegas hell ya
-
I can see Vegas being pretty distracting. I think ATL is a great city, and it's my home town so I would love to see that. Denver nice too though.
-
ooh yes options for it not to be on the east coast \o/
-
Vegas, hopefully i can join this year
-
I voted for Denver.
I live in Atlanta.
-
i vote for philly.
But if thats completely ruled out then Denver, cuz i've never been.
-
Los Angeles!

Agreed
-
I can 110% go to ATL from Florida. I can drive easily, and friends and/or family to stay with. Las Vegas would be a big maybe, Denver probably a no from me dog.
-
I'm in for whatever. All 3 locations have cheap flights :thumb:
-
So, it's officially Denver? Or will Denver and Vegas fight to the death in a cage match?
-
Did we win

Death match death match death match
-
can we all meet in megaforce93s house
-
Unsure if this is still open but I'm for Philadelphia if so!
-
Denver it is! Time to search for a venue. If any locals have some leads, hit me up. More details soon :)
-
Sweet that should be a pretty cheap flight for me and beautiful mountains to explore!!

With regard to venues - how many people are (likely) showing up and are we looking to book a block of rooms at a nearby hotel?

We're shooting for around 500. And yes, hopefully we can offer a discount at a local hotel.

If I remember this is occurring and depending on if I decide to go to Japan in March vs June (vs pushing it another year) I might try and make an appearance. It's been a while and I love Colorado. Mother grew up there and it'd be nice to revisit some of those areas.
-
I vote Denver as well!
Of course I'm a little biased since that's only an hour away for me.

Typically early-ish summer. June/July time-frame most often.

I hope this doesn't happen on the same weekend as Anime Expo in LA (July 2 - 5, 2020)

Any excuse to visit CO, so...

I think a lot of people were unhappy with last year's venue. I've heard many folks express their willingness to pay a fee for this year's Keycon if it meant we could secure a venue that was more equipped to hosting an event like ours. I know I'm one of them.

I am in 100% agreement here. As a preface, I understand there was an existing relationship with the Ace Hotel and we were all able to attend for free. That being said...
The Ace Hotel in Manhattan was a very bad venue for this kind of meetup. From the start the entire thing was confusing, people were setting up their belongings, boxes of resin worth thousands of dollars, keyboards worth thousands of dollars, at tables located in the ENTRANCE of the Ace Hotel. I, personally, was informed that the downstairs area was specifically reserved for vendors only, but immediately found folks friendly with vendors placing their personal items on the vendor tables (probably because they realized how absurd it is to leave their belongings upstairs).
Once the meetup got into full swing, it became apparent that the venue was not adequate. Due to the majority of the things being displayed being located in the literal LOBBY of the hotel, people simply staying at the Ace Hotel could be seen walking over to the table with drinks and iced-coffees in hand, often held directly over the keyboards, disregarding signs that say "do not pick up," and even asking people how much certain items were should they want to purchase them. As the day moved along, it became difficult to even move around in the downstairs area due to the sheer number of people as well as the ambient temperature constantly rising (easily 10 degrees F higher than upstairs, and this is at the start of the typical hot and humid New York City summer).
I am 100% willing to pay $15-20 for a ticket where the funds go back to the organizers search for a venue that is comfortable and enjoyable for everyone. I know I'm not alone here.

Yup, noted. And I agree with you on many of those points. Much of which were already brought up when we asked attendees for feedback, but also some of your concerns are just what happens at meetups anywhere.
Ace Hotel was incredibly generous with their time and accommodations for the previous two KeyCons. However, it was increasingly apparent that the event has grown beyond their ability to host. Beyond that, the response for New York was much higher than anticipated and nearly twice as much as the previous year if we would've let the rsvp stay open. That said, as we're hunting for venues, we're making sure that we have a more open floor plan for the main section, consistent lighting, a solution for talks and presentations, and space for 500+. But, with that, we will definitely be looking for ways to cover the cost of the venue through paid tickets, vendor fees, and a few other avenues.
Again, the feedback is appreciated, and the planning committee and myself are working hard getting moving on 2020.

Is there any interest in a switch lubing testing station? It would be a big bowl of Gaterons linears plus several different lubes, brushes, and switch openers. You could spend a few minutes and play around experimenting with different lubes and techniques. Mostly targeted at "beginner/intermediate" attendees but could still be a good opportunity to try something different even for old heads.

This would be super nice. I'm relatively new to the community and there's so many different switches to try and it could answer so many questions too. Maybe have someone do a demo of lubing or something too?
-
I'm all for a Denver spot. I live in Nebraska so everywhere else is pretty much way too far away. 😭

Any idea on possible dates? Even if it's multiple possibilities, it'd be nice to not get double booked with other travel plans.

Nope. Atlanta was in the running, but didn't ultimately win. Maybe next year.

Shucks! Atlanta would’ve been the ideal location. Cheap flights, great city, friendly, diverse and fun! I get a sense that sinsemilla had a lot to do with the final choice, which is fine by me. LOL!!!
-
Brilliant location. I have got the pink slip from my wife, so I'm in.
-
Denvers great I have a brother there, I could visit hime while going to the Con.

Tickets: Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/keycon-2020-tickets-91948070153) - Sales start Saturday, Feb. 1!
Happy to announce tickets for early bird, general admission, and vendors will be going on sale this Saturday.
Information regarding giveaways, sponsorships, and events will be coming in the future.
-
I am not sure if these questions have been answered but I was not able to find it if so.
Are Vendor tables limited?
If not can vendor tickets be purchased by non vendor attendees to guarantee a table to showcase their collection?
Will general admission attendees be limited on how many boards they are allowed to bring?
-
Quick question! If I were to buy a half table, and a friend buys another half table, would we be able to put them together?
I know vendors get first pick and all, just wondering!

I do have a cap on all ticket levels based on stats from last year. If certain levels start to sell out, I'll reassess.
Vendor tickets are for vendors. Despite having a lot more space, we are still anticipating a pretty massive crowd.
Two board limit for general admission tickets.

If both you and your friend are vendors, sure, I could make that happen.

go to keycon or i will definitely steal your drapes
-
I'd rather keep my drapes...
Is there going to be an accommodation sharing/etc. thread like previous years?
I posted it in the discord, but I'm not on discord much.
I want to go, but I am just one person, which makes accommodations expensive. I'm looking to split an airbnb or hotel with some peeps.
-
We have secured a block of rooms at The Source Hotel (https://thesourcehotel.com/). To book a room, go here (https://gc.synxis.com/rez.aspx?Hotel=77854&Chain=10237&template=DENTS&shell=DENTS&arrive=6/12/2020&depart=6/14/2020&adult=1&child=0&group=CORPKEYCON).

Glad to catch this before I would pack up a bunch like I was planning.
Just got a ticket, hoping to end up in town for work and would love to swing through!

This will be my first meetup so I'm excited to try some stuff I haven't before as well as meet a lot of other people who love keyboards like me! Where I'm at no one seems to like keyboards at all. :(

Just passed 250 signed up! Gonna be a party ;D

Atlanta 2020!!!
I was robbed the event in 2018 :'(
i first read that as "i was robbed at the even in 2018"! had me wondering what kind of shenanigans go on at these conventions! haha. glad to see you didn't get robbed!
-

you're pure evil. i need this set so bad that i'm actually about to pull the trigger on a plane ticket and hotel room to attend the convention just for the set. ......i'm dead serious.
i mean i'm sure i'll have an absolute blast at the convention in general too, but honestly that set only being available at the con is what got me started on this insane, spur-of-the-moment vacation plan. now....to plan an explanation my boss....

I'm happy to announce we've secured a venue for KeyCon2020!
Date: June 13, 2020
Time: 11am-6pm
Place: EXDO Event Center, 1399 35th St. Denver, CO 80205
Many more details soon. Happy to get rolling :)
how many tickets total will be available for the event? is there a way to monitor how many tickets are still available at a given time? i'm still trying to figure out if i can make it to the convention so my ticket purchase and hotel booking may be last minute.

I assume you are monitoring the current situation about COVID-19?
I figured I would chime in here, as I've been working on COVID-19 in the Canadian equivalent of the CDC since the very first reports of a novel coronavirus out of Wuhan. This includes working with and supporting a team of epidemiologists with travel expertise, the nurses responsible for quarantines at border crossings and on conveyances, messaging and signage for risk reduction at airports for travellers, and the team that posts up to date outbreak information and risk levels for travellers by country.
To be clear, I'm talking just as a member of the public, and my views here are my own and not reflective of any government or agency or policy. I am not a major decision maker. But I've also worked on this outbreak non-stop, including weekends, nights, etc. from the first reports of the coronavirus to present.
All that can be done at this point is to monitor the situation to determine if there is sustained community transmission in Denver come June. I know the organizers of keycon personally, and have attended several events in the past, and speak with them regularly. They are intelligent and up-to-date on current events, and I have every confidence that should a situation arise where the event needs to be postponed, they will do so. Thankfully, the demographics that are most at risk (the elderly, people with compromised immune systems, and those with chronic conditions) are unlikely to be in attendance.
There are steps that can be taken prior to and during the event that can reduce risk. All attendees should:
Wash your hands regularly with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. This is the most simple and important advice anyone can give.
Use alcohol based hand sanitizer
Have antibacterial wipes on hand that can be used to wipe down boards/caps, especially if people are trying them out
Cover your mouth and nose with the crook of your arm while sneezing/coughing
Buy trip cancellation insurance, and ensure that it covers things like cancellations due to infectious disease outbreak (some insurance companies are no longer providing refunds for COVID-19)
Avoid prolonged personal contact, such as shaking hands
Avoid touching your face, nose or eyes
Avoid contact with sick people. If you start to feel sick, isolate yourself as quickly as possible. If you start to feel ill before the event, PLEASE reconsider attending, especially if you are coming from an area with a confirmed outbreak.
Check your travel plans regularly to see if there has been any change in status. This can change very quickly and without much warning.
The truth is that no one has a crystal ball, and the situation is changing so quickly on a day-by-day basis that trying to predict if there is going to be an outbreak that affects keycon is not possible. All that can be done at this point is to practice safe hygiene behaviours, stay informed of current situation, consider the advice of your local health authority, and to make the most comfortable decision possible for you as an individual.
Fear is a normal reaction to this type of outbreak. However, I would ask people not use social media as a source of news for anything COVID-19 related. Perspective is important here. Car accidents kill 37,000 people in the US every year. In comparison, there have been a bit over 3,000 confirmed deaths from coronavirus in all of China, the epicenter of the outbreak. I'm not saying the situation isn't serious, because it is. But when I feel my own anxiety rising, that is something I use to bring myself back down.
EDIT: 6 million car accidents, 37,000 deaths. Sorry, I'm tired!
-
thanks for the helpful info, TGID!
-
Now I'm bummed. The first time I hear about KeyCon, first I'd be able to go to, in my home town, and I can't because I can't afford to get sick...

While your overall recommendations seem great, I have to correct one thing.
There are 6 million car accidents in the US, of which 6% result in death. (see https://www.driverknowledge.com/car-accident-statistics/)

I hope this event doesn't get delayed or cancelled, but if it does, I hope that it's done soon to give me a chance to make arrangements and try to get tickets etc. refunded.

Whelp, we are hoping for the same thing. Luckily we have a little more time to let this play out. The planning committee is watching everything as closely as we can.

Thanks! Fixed that a few days ago. Clearly struggling to proof before hitting post.

I'll be keeping tabs and praying the event will still be possible :'(
-
I have flights booked but if the opportunity to cancel for free comes up I’ll be taking advantage. Prices have plummeted lately so rebooking will yield a nice savings.
-
So uh - is this event being cancelled? At this point in time it seems almost irresponsible to continue. Even if shelter at home is lifted - there is no vaccine or commonly available tests for antibodies. People mingling and touching keyboards are basically going to become humongous vectors.
March 2nd - we were at 5 deaths.
March 15th - 65 deaths.
April 1st - 4,000ish deaths.
April 7th (tonight) we're at almost 13,000 deaths.
It's not even about attendees getting sick. It's about the fact people could be transmitting while being completely asymptomatic - and then going back to their regions.

Thanks for the info, and we're obviously watching what's happening just as closely as anyone else. Currently we're working with the venue, which is also understandably slammed. Should have something official to announce in the next week or so.

Hey all, with everything that's going on in the world today, we are pushing back KeyCon to Sept. 20th. EXDO has been incredibly flexible with the date change without any financial ramifications, and this date is hopefully far enough out that we all will be back to some type of new normal by then. Sorry for the upset in plans, but I hope we can all get together a little later in a much safer way.
-
Great to hear - hopefully that's a long enough delay.

Awesome thank you for making the hard choice. I know a lot of other events that are still deciding to go through with their plans.

Nice, the last time i when't to a meet it was in the summer time.
September should have some nice temps.
-
Just updated the hotel block link for the Source Hotel to reflect the date change :)
-
Hopefully by then it's starting to wind down. I worry by even then thought it may be active enough that a lot of people will avoid conference and large gatherings even if relatively safe.
-
The link to eventbrite shows ticket sales ending June 12. I’m guessing that’s a remnant from the original date and the purchase deadline should maybe pushed out to September?

Is it really?
It says that the event is on Sept. 20 and below it says:
Refund Policy
Refunds up to 7 days before event
Eventbrite's fee is nonrefundable.

Thanks for the heads up. And yeah, forgot to update that when I moved the event. All updated now.

Super new to this community and super lucky to live in Denver! I'll seriously consider buying a ticket considering September is my 21st birthday! What an interesting time we live in but I agree hopefully with the discussion of planned and monitored reopening going on in Denver that things will be easier to manage. Hope to see you all there!!
/s
-
Me and my wife will see everyone there!!!
Ill be bringing my TGR alice, Duck Viper, and Polycarb Bauer. Looking forward to checking out some of the vintage keebs!!!!
Seems like the September date should hold too!
-
Happy "Would've Been KeyCon Except for a Pandemic" Day! Hope y'all are doing well. Just wanted to check in and let you know I've had some great conversations with the venue for the new Sept. 20th date and we're working to make sure the event is safe, fun, and flexible enough to work around whatever possible restrictions might still be in place by the time of the event. I appreciate everyone's patience with the situation at hand, and look forward to a stellar KeyCon 2020!

Thanks to Hello Caps for hosting a virtual KeyCon with great success on this very day

I would like to say that I am super looking forward to this but is it really going to happen? The US is nowhere near any type of herd immunity and Sept is just right around the corner. I really want it to happen even if we have to all wear masks and stand apart from each other. Anyway, I would love this. I hope that we are able to do it.

Hey, thanks for checking in. I've been meaning to do an update for a bit, so this is a good opportunity. I've been going back and forth with the venue and trying to keep up to date with the current restrictions and safety recommendations in Denver regarding covid. As of right now, the venue is pretty comfortable about being able to host an event that abides by those restrictions. We'll be making use of multiple rooms and some outdoor space to better aid in where groups of people will be congregating, and obviously taking precautions in regard to masks and hand sanitizer being available. If the situation progresses beyond where it's reasonable to host the event, we'll cross that bridge with hopefully as much lead time as possible (as it's an ever changing set of variables). That said, I'll reiterate that I want everyone to feel safe and refunds are available for anyone who doesn't want to head out to Denver. Thanks for the patience and the more than usual "up in the air" element to this KeyCon. Myself and the planning committee are doing out best to stay on top of the news and make the best decisions and provide the best event possible.
-
Hoping all goes to plan (safely), I could really use a "vacation" and would love to visit Denver - I'm sure it wouldn't take much to get the wife to want to go too, but I'm sure she'd love to go to FL over CO while I am not the biggest fan of FL other than Florida Man antics. Other than the convention, there are some Toyota off-road shops I'd love to visit and catch up with some of the guys that used to be here in Atlanta. Also seeing how inexpensive flights have been lately it wouldn't be hard, pandemic has actually allowed some opportunities and some amazing GB's this year.
-
Oh hell yeah! I will be attending this one! :)
-
Ah would love to attend!! Are things tentative, though, due to the rona?
-
I'm based in Denver and hope some form of this event still happens! We are still in phase 2 so not total lock down. There is a mask mandate in all public spaces and there are restrictions on occupancy in all bars and restaurants. All things considered, Colorado has things pretty put together compared to the rest of the US and is one of the better places to have an event at the moment. Hope you all get to come enjoy some fresh Rocky Mountain air :)
-
That said, I'll reiterate that I want everyone to feel safe and refunds are available for anyone who doesn't want to head out to Denver.
Are refunds still happening?
-
So I have some good news and some bad news.
Good news is that KeyCon is going to be virtual this year!
Bad news is that unfortunately with so much uncertainty and apprehension with the covid situation, KeyCon 2020 isn't going to be an in-person event. I know it's a bummer, but myself and the planning committee think it's the best solution.
I've already received a refund from the venue, and I'll be cancelling the event on Eventbrite and processing full refunds for all ticket holders starting today.
EXDO has expressed their desire to rebook our event for 2021, which is definitely something that will be explored.
As far as the virtual event, it will be held on the KeyCon 2020 Discord Server (https://discord.gg/yvJyBqw) on the same date. We're still working out the details for times and how to manage all the interactions, but it'll still be a banging good time.
Sorry for the bad news, but I look forward to hanging with y'all in discord pretty soon.

I reserved a room through the Source Hotel. Which was the linked hotel before this got cancelled. Can we expect the hotel to be refunding rooms as well or should we be contacting them individually?
You should contact them yourself.

Don't really have an excuse when it is in your own backyard. Looking forward to meeting some awesome people and learning a ton at this event!
Let me know if you need any support from local boots on the ground...

I have officially finished moving to Denver. I see keycon is in Denver. I screech. Then mr coroni came and made breathing illegal. I screech once more but this time in sadness. Now, I screech a final time discovering that at least ya boi can attend in spirit through the internet. I will wear my rift S in desktop mode to increase immersion.
-
Looking forward to attending my first KeyCon even though its virtual!
-
I'm excited to meet everyone this is going to be an awesome virtual event <3
-
Glad I finally looked into this. I had heard about previous years and figured this year was just not going to happen. Im excited to get to know others in the community. I just started in the hobby a month ago and I feel like I fell down the rabbit hole lol.
Also really hoping next year’s Keycon can be an in person event and I am able to go.

Philly! :D

Hopefully I will be able to attend in person next time
Thanks guys !

2020 keycon virtual through discord was a blast this year. First time "attending" but learned a lot about how people make artisans along with everyone basically showing off their amazing keyboard collects over video ! :)

I feel like with the current size of the hobby KeyCon would have to be planned at least a year out and venue cost would be crazy. So some kind of crowdfunding or badge pre order would have to happen for it to be a thing. SO KEYCON 2024 WHEN?
