Is there a QFR of today?
« on: Wed, 25 October 2017, 18:55:37 »
Whats up geek hack its been a minute.

I was wondering if there is a keyboard that is similar to what the QFR was five years ago; solid, under 100 bucks, etc.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Looks like they're pretty popular. No stock. Never heard of silver cherry before.

Can vouch for the MasterKeys, have one w/ Browns. It's a solid board. Cherry stabs, for what it's worth

Those look nice. Am I mistaken or do the PBT caps without backlight still have translucent legends. Not really a fan of that. I know this is GH so who keeps stock caps but still.

It seems to be sold out. Any idea if the "L" version, the full size is the same quality?

The L version is a rubber dome with MX mount sliders.

The L version is a rubber dome with MX mount sliders.

You might be mixing things up a little there.

The MasterKeys product line follows the following naming scheme:
– MasterKeys Pro = single color or RGB backlighting
– MasterKeys = PBT keycaps
– MasterKeys Light = Mem-chanical aka rubber dome with MX compatible sliders

The associated letter designates the form factor:
– S = tenkeyless
– M = hybrid 90%
– L = fullsize

Hope this helps.

I know what you mean. The keycaps on the QFR were of such stunning quality that aftermarket keycap companies are still struggling to match their near-perfection, so there's just no comparison here.

Ducky was always good, and they still make non-backlit keyboards.

Is KUL still a thing?  They were said to be excellent no-frills keyboard.

With a little backlighting the CODE keyboard is also a good choice.  Backlighting can be turned off, of course, and with non-backlit keycaps you could go for an underglow effect.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
