Hmmm. RS III and RS84 V3 seem to be different keyboards. The matrix is a different layout with a 10key incorporated.

In his other thread Ivan says it is running TMK based firmware: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69064.msg1661983#msg1661983
Haven't found it anywhere yet.

based on the information a-c provided tho, I'm guessing the answer to both of the questions is 99% yes

If it's the same PCB as the previous RS84, then yes it's 100% programmable and is essentially the same as programming the RSIII. Between the RSIII flashing guide here https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69282.0 and the details that geniekid and digi worked out here https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69064.msg1799365#msg1799365 I was able to reflash it with a custom layout.

Yea you need to get your own PCB mount stabs. GON and Winkeyless have sets for TKL boards that includes wire that should do the job. I found the stab parts number on the MX datasheet and found that Mouser has stabs in stock. They have a few wire sizes in stock but not 6.25x for spacebar so I just ordered an extra set of 2.5x stabs and am making my own wire.

Plate-mount cherry stabs would theoretically work too?

But the ones from ortholinear was too thick for my taste for example, harvesting a wire from another keyboard is also a nice idea

Howdy guys.

I'm new to the keyboard community - recently ordered my first mech keyboard - but am interested in putting one together myself. This seems like a great deal. If any of you could give me some pointers and/or essentially hold my hand through the process it would be incredibly appreciated.

Thanks for the time!

Hi there, I've been in the scene a while and this is my first time building my own. This build actually comes with most parts pre soldered including the usb connector, underside RGB LEDs and the diodes. The only thing you need to get it up and running is to solder in the switches and any in switch LEDs that you want. Then program the keyboard with help from some of the links above me and there you have it :)

Make sure you use PCB mount stabs with straight spacebar wire. The bent ones have a clearance issue with the plate.

Thanks for the help, is there any place where I would be able to order one of them? I ordered a set of PCB mount stabs from SPRiT last night, are they straight wired?

Hey Ivan, if everything sticks to schedule and order finish on August 10th what is the usual turn around time for a GB since this is my first one? I go away to University in mid September and was just wary.

It will probably be a month or few before I receive them. I can always update your shipping destination if needed.

Hi everyone,

New here. Just bought an rs 84 with gateron blacks (assembled by someone else from previous group buy) and am trying to determine what keycap set to purchase. Can anyone point me in the right direction? It seems that any std base + mod DSA set from signature plastics with two additional 1.5u should cover it. Is that correct? Anything else I should be aware off? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Now I can't decide between this or a winkeyless combo... RS84 has a better looking case for sure, and everything would be soldered, but I'd have to source stabilizers somewhere, and at WKL I'd be able to get a numpad at the same time. Decisions...
