AeroDox Pack is perfect, I'd like to see what the moq and price is set at for this. Maybe you could cut the redundant keys if gets to pricey. This would be through SP, so they would come in packs.

Check out the one for 1976: http://www.pimpmykeyboard.com/deals/1976-ergodox-modifier-kit/
$56 to start with a MOQ of 15. AeroDox has a few more keys than that, so it will probably be a $60-65 kit at 15 MOQ. Not cheap, so prepare your wallet. :p
I can cut a few if there's a consensus that they're redundant.
I vote for SA as well, would make a great sister set to the commando 23!Thats exactly what I thought when I saw the question, R3 SA is the best looking profile for this set.
Can somebody give me the low down on a JD40 kit? If it's more than 4-5 additional keys I'll break it out into its own pack, otherwise I can probably squeeze it into the Maverick pack.
DANGER ZONE!DANGAAAAA ZOOONEShow Image(http://i.imgur.com/oq2qkUN.gif)
Is it possible to get the smooth semi-matte texture of SA with DSA? I wouldn't mind that either.

Definitely want to see this one made soon.I need to watch Top Gun again so I can capture all the cheesy references for this set. Any suggestions for the novelty set are appreciated. :D
The Yellow pops on Dark Blue easily and it has to be all SA Profile because that is still the ONLY profile SP makes perfectly.
You have to include some extra sayings on the keys such as; Payload Release, Bombs Away, or Target Ruskies as that will occur quite soon :thumb: .
Dam, I like this set. SA is perfect for it.
Interesting font choice, it would be 100% original legends then?
Also is it bad that i want this set to subvert and make a Fallout keyboard?

I'd like to think it was your awesome Vault 13 caps that inspired me, at least subconsciously. ;)
So that's like 10 votes for SA and 1 for DSA. I'm definitely seeing a trend. Should I bother with a poll at this point?
Interesting footnote:
The Gorton font (or something very like it) can be found in aviation control panels, indicators, and other aircraft labels going back to WWII.

DSA sucks.
SA is great, but I'm not a fan of uniform profile. I understand why people want it, for their odd layouts or whatever. But contoured just feels so much better.
;D I appreciate your help on this. I may take you up on your offer to look at the custom legends, particularly the DZ logo. I haven't tried tweaking the corners yet but I think it's going to be a challenge. SP's guide isn't exactly user-friendly either.Interesting footnote:

The font is called Gorton after the font used by Gorton Engraving machines that were employed to engrave most early instrument panels. http://www.gorton-machine.org/ (http://www.gorton-machine.org/)

"SA" is kind of a Signature Plastics thing, but tall, uniform sphericals have been around at least as long as sculpted rows. I assume that's what you meant.
Note: I am not an expert on this subject.

I meant a keyboard that were made with SA type keys with no profile at the factory, and commercialized as a standalone board or as part of a computer system. I did not ask for keysets. Sorry, if I did not write clearly.

Well, I was already looking to do a Nuclear Data: Vault Dweller Edition, but...you beat me to it. Great Job on this!
I am curious, have they cleared your legends for the winged DZ logo yet? That is my least favorite part of creating new stuff...they say 'no', 'no', 'not yet', 'almost there', and then finally 'Yes!'

For the novelty kit, how about "CHAFF", "FLARE" and/or "FUEL DUMP" 1u caps?

DSA can be mix and match with other DSAs sets people already owned, to create unique interesting combinations. With recent GBs for DSA kits in the hundreds, and some in the thousands this should be considered.

It's being considered. But if it doesn't get enough VOTES (http://goo.gl/forms/JWJX6qyLtC) then it will lose to SA. Pretty simple.
Right now DSA has 1 vote, so it's not looking good.

Hi Data,
Would you consider using "semi-contoured" SA profile like Commando, Calm Depths and Penumbra (1,2,3,3,3,4)?
I own Penumbra and Nuclear Data and I have to say that Penumbra looks way better with the angled numbers and F keys. I like full contour, but I think matching Calm Depths and Commando profiles would really suit this set.
I'm going to vote all Row 3 SA in the poll, though, because I prefer any SA to DSA.
My brother's a pilot, so I'll definitely be ordering this set for him  :thumb:
I'm a little surprised by the outward dislike for DSA after the crazy success of Granite Round 2.

Once people start to use DSA, they realize that it's terrible for typing.
I'm not a huge fan of uniform SA, either. Although I think maybe if it were uniform Row 4, it would feel better than uniform Row 3.

Row 4 seems like a strange choice. Plus you still have the Row 4 Shifts problem with SP...
Did you notice if I'm missing anything in the JD40 kit?

Row 4 SA looks interesting. I would be interested in trying that out. Contoured SA would be preferable over row 3 for me.

Left-most "wing" is a go.
Top "star" is the before legend from my Illustrator drawings. Bottom "star" is the after legend. These custom legends have to conform to strict design measurements or SP won't accept them. There are physical limits in the machining (has a lot to do with corners) and the finished tool has to stand up to repeated moldings under high temperature/pressure. So of the two star designs, bottom is the one closest to the final production appearance.

Wow I love this set. Looks like I'll have something to put on my gatereon switches when they come. Are the novelties set in stone? I'd love to see some gpws related caps there. Maybe a red "TERRAIN" cap or a "GLIDESLOPE" cap. "DON'T SINK" would be cool also. No, they're far from set. I could actually use some help on the 1.25u keys. I'm not completely sold on the Hornet, Falcon, etc. Any suggestions from 4-6 characters would be appreciated.
According to your poll the overwhelming choice of profile seems to be SA, hence you have to re-design the Alphas with centered text.
Haven't seen an upper left hand side placement of text when using the SA profile so keep that in mind when you progress towards PMK's store front. Nothing worse then designing your key-set for DSA placement only and then it becomes distorted on an SA profile :o .

New here, I have a question.
Is there any option or way to get Åå Ää Öö keycaps with the ISO set? (Swedish/Nordic layout)
Sure. If you can find at least 14 other people who will buy them I'll either add them to the UK set or make another child kit.

Adding them to the UK set will do. Hopefully some people will grab the ISO(UK) set.
Interested
Just wanted to post my interest
I love it! I'm definitely interested.
I'll need a highway to my desk, though!
Wow, that joke didn't even work in my head. Oh well.
Looking to maybe "finalize" the kits this week and push the Interest Check on PMK out by the end of next week.
This probably wouldn't become a GB until early May. Might wallets have recovered by then? Is interest still decent?
Going to bump this out another couple of weeks. Hoping the interest picks up.

And can we also have the centered Gorton legends? They look amazing on SAI'd be open to that. Let me put a sample image together.
I'll post it over there tonight and drop a link here to the post.

Nothing to report. I've been intentionally quiet in here, mainly because I wanted to see what would happen. This is my first keycap group buy but I don't have the impression that there's a lot of interest in this set, and I'm usually pretty good at reading the situation. I wasn't expecting the kind of response that a Matt3o or CtrlAlt group buy gets around here, but I was hoping for a little more than I got. I shared my latest mock-ups over at DT and got an even weaker response. So that tells me people just aren't interested in the colorway, profile, theme, or something else. I haven't really figured it out yet -- nobody will tell me what I'm doing wrong.
I'm not going through the trouble of getting it approved by SP if it's not even going to tip. :p So I'm just going to sit on it until the interest is there or it just quietly dies. Don't know what else I could do but I'm certainly open to suggestions.
All that said, I do really appreciate those of you who have expressed interest and offered suggestions. It means a lot. :thumb:

Wait a few months and try again.
It's not a bad set but colors won't appeal to everyone. There has also been a lot of big keyset drops recently, with all those CTRL ALT drops and things like GMK Adler, redrops of Granite and Dolch and soon SA Retro (and a redrop of Penumbra). Most people won't have the money on yet another set at this time.
I am working on mock-ups with centered legends. It will take me a day or so to get everything together.
I vote for full sculpt, Rows 1-1-2-3-4-4 (and Row 3 Shifts until SP has made the Row molds) like DCS, Cherry, OEM, etc. with centred Gorton legends. There was already a vote and Row 3 SA won greatly
Were you still considering including the roundel caps in the wingman pack, or were to custom designs to expensive?I'm doing the RAF roundel for sure in that pack. I'm considering others but cost is a concern.
Does SP do windowed stepped caps locks>
The only reason I was asking is because Commando 23 has a stepped windowed caps lock, unless SP didn't do itDoes SP do windowed stepped caps locks>
I think that is a GMK exclusive, so far.

I must have these. I will buy a board just for them. WANT.
PS. Amazing work ^-^
With the new Larger legends, can we increase the size of the legends on the F row to match? Obviously keys with shift characters will have a to be a bit smaller, but I think it would look more even if we increased the size of the F row legends as well.
I've submitted the formal Interest Check for approval on PMK. I'll run the images/legends by Melissa one more time tomorrow, and we should hopefully see the IC appear on the web site in the next 24 hours. Fingers crossed. If we get the votes I'm in position to move forward on this closely following Matt3o's SA Retro.
Nope. No reply from Melissa either. It still shows "pending" on the PMK interface. I'll ping her again tonight to see what's up.

I sent my vote at PMK.
Just hit 100 votes.
1976 in the mail and i just voted for this.
Given how good the 1976 looks compared to the prototype pics, this will look awesome.
I need more keyboards...
Danger zone was in a featured email I got from SP today!
Of course it depends on the price point it comes in at (depending on which keyboard I pick for a makeover), but at a reasonable price, I will definitely get this.
(It would be nice to see on Massdrop, actually. It's more detailed and nicer to look at than 90% of the keysets offered, though that's just a personal opinion. Then again,I bought Miami, and I am still not sure if I drank a bit too much wine before I did that. :D ).
As most of you are aware, we have experienced many functional problems with the PMK website over the past year. This has not only been frustrating for you users but it has been equally frustrating for us as well. It’s time to make a change.
Over the next couple months we will be moving the site to a new platform. Hopefully this change will address the many frustrations you have experienced from lack of mobile access to simply checking out without any problems.
We also plan to make one major change to the site. The Interest Check and Group Buy format has been very successful, making some very creative designs available to a lot of people. Unfortunately we are seeing more and more of these great designs, many receiving hundreds of “like” votes, die during the 30-day Group Buy period. Under the new format we plan to still display designs in the Interest Check, but once they receive a certain number of “like” votes we will move the design into our production cue. Once produced, the sets will become available in our Key Shop where they can be purchased and shipped within days of ordering. This way you decide when to buy the keysets, minimizing the competition we are now seeing with so many new designs being launched at the same time. We would like to have at least 20 different custom designs available through our Key Shop.
And one more change. We plan to pay a 5% royalty on the net sales of each keyset design that is up for sale to the creator of the design. We feel the creative efforts that go into these keysets should be rewarded!
We thank you for your patience and support while we incorporate these changes. We also welcome any and all suggestions you may have on how to further improve the site.
So... YAY! New web site and format that hopefully doesn't suck, but also... BOO! Starting over sucks huge donkey balls.
Melissa confirmed that we will have to start the IC over again.

Agreed. Either way, really disappointed in SP on this one.Melissa confirmed that we will have to start the IC over again.

They could, in theory, but it's a per-user unique voting system so it might be more trouble than it's worth (for them). That part doesn't bother me as much as having to resubmit my IC under the new format. I spent a lot of timing putting this one together. It would actually make sense to me if they launched the new site with a few up-and-coming ICs already setup. Just port Danger Zone, Jukebox, and Carbon from the old format so they're ready on Day 1 to help show off the site. That would be a nice gesture to the few of us who got a week of exposure and a solid response from customers only to have the plug pulled mid-stride.
Keycap popularity really shot up in the past couple months and now all of sudden the community is flooded with a lot of well thought out keysets but the only thing holding back these keysets from having successful group buys is our wallets.

So TRUE because RETRO is going to seriously rape everyone's wallets and leave huge gape marks that shall last for a month in most cases. Hence don't be so gung-ho in getting this key-set made just yet, give the people of Geekhack some time to recover otherwise it shall be another golden opportunity to own something, that disappears forever because very few can actually front up with the money.
Patience is definitely a virtue here and should be applied just like organizing a military campaign, always makes sure you have the numbers and an arsenal of money before breaching SP's perilous Castle Walls.
I'm assuming Data is rebuilding the submission...There's no option to do that just yet. I assume SP will have an announcement when the new system is ready. If they were smart they'd invite the last few IC leaders to submit their designs to test the process out and get some useful feedback before they release it to the public, and also so they can launch it with some actual content... but that's if they're smart. ;)

JUKEBOX a 50's Retro-Futurism Sculpted SA Keycaps Kit drops at the end of the second week in June......
its a bad news for me, i prefer Danger Zone and Carbon SA :(
and SA Rows 3 means the keyform is SA [3-3-3-3-3-3] ??? ?

The Eternal Optimist
I emailed Melissa today to see if there was any new information she could share. I'll let everyone know if I hear back.
It's SA row 3.
I'm not worried about it fading away. By the sound of it, under the new system I can just throw up the interest check and SP will manufacture the set(s) when it reaches some minimum interest threshold. So it'll get made, probably... eventually. :p
If anything I'd be concerned about QC under the new format. Since there's no formal group buy anymore it's hard to say how they might handle that stuff.
Anyone run this GB plsss!Right now!

Data, the OP, is the only one that can run it. Currently SP is not taking orders either, so many sets are on hold for the time being.

I have been watching this thread for two months now and I am still going to buy a set whenever pmk gets off their arsesThanks for the support and welcome to GeekHack.
Thanks. Some kind of group buy will happen before 2016. I can promise you that much. :p

I don't mind the wait at all, there is already too many key sets and keyboards that I'm planning on purchasing already. I'm heading to college in 9 days so my money flow is dwindling haha.

For Data, this set still looks fabulous! Row 3 is the way to be!

The email from PMK today said they had finished with the new web site and were doing some final work on the Interest Checks. They are trying to have it "ready to go within the next few weeks," so we could get things going again soon. I'm going to say if we aren't rolling on the new PMK by the end of September then I'm going to attack this from another angle. We've given them plenty of time.

For the love of god PMK.

You sound like my Mrs........ ;D
Luckily I didn't miss out on this. Will be my 1st row 3 SA keyset
At this point I think it's safe to share... that Massdrop approached me a couple of weeks ago about running the Danger Zone group buy through their system and I agreed. The current plan is to run the buy at the end of September, but manufacturing would not begin until December this year as the queue for SA production is currently very long. SP is estimating 8-10 weeks to produce the set, so we would not see delivery until potentially February. That's all I know at the moment and this could change again as the plan solidifies. I'm hoping to have some pricing to share soon.
The timing is obviously not ideal, but I figure we've waited this long, as long as things are in motion we can just continue to wait and I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. At least it's not a 7bit group buy. :D (jk bro, don't taze me)
That's great news! Don't worry about the time frame, its only a few months. People need to learn a little patience anyways. :thumb:

Good, so PMK site is now ready for the DANGER ZONE 8) .
No, not PMK. This will run on Massdrop. I still haven't heard any movement from SP on the PMK relaunch. They could be another 6 months out on that, for all we know. I'm not going to stick around to find out. We're moving forward with Massdrop.
Also, this drop may be live as soon as tomorrow! :o :-X :o :-X
Yeah I think they said it will run for a full 2 weeks (why not? there's time) and production would begin in December, barring any new delays at SP.

One of my old neighbors was a blue angels pilot. This colorway really brings me back to my dad working on ships in Norfolk! Its classic!
Is it the more common preference to have all row 3 SA rather than contoured? Or is it less expensive?

No I think sculpted is probably more common, but uniform R3 makes it easier to apply this set to "oddball" keyboards and to use alternate layouts like Colemak/Dvorak without having to piece together big, expensive kits. Expensive kits are harder to sell (thus harder to tip) and more complicated for me to get right, so I wasn't comfortable tackling something that big for my first key set. This one applies the KISS Principle. ;)
Congrats! You've done some great work here. Can't wait to get my set, I just wish SP wasn't so backed up with SA orders right now.
Bumping this to let people know that we will probably get a Round 2 this year, most likely around Q4. I'll post more details as they come available.

This is true. But to be honest I don't envision Danger Zone as a DSA set. Maybe a future spinoff. DSA does tend to jive with the set's "flat profile" roots so it does make some sense to try it. A true Round 2 would have to be SA, though.
I'm still toying with the idea of flat vs sculpted profile. I'll be running a Massdrop poll here in the next month or so to see what the community prefers. If there's overwhelming interest in doing a Danger Zone SA sculpt then that's probably the direction we'll take. So stay tuned for that...

Most (but not all) of the novelties would have to remain R3. It's the only sane way to do a kit like Wingman. So that may be a significant factor in any decision on profiles moving forward.
We'll see. Got months to figure it out.
I'll down for a Maverick Pack if doing SA R2.. As I need it RIGHT NOW!

If you are planning to make novelty not r3 it will probably be a good idea to make a modifier row? Otherwise the new novelty caps are pretty much useless to R1 participants.

No that's kinda the opposite of what I said. The novelties would need to stay R3 because most of them are meant to be used anywhere on the board. A few, like in the Wingman Pack, have a specific key that they replace and they don't physically fit anywhere else, so they could correspond to a new row height in a sculpted layout. But I don't yet know if that makes sense for the set as a whole.

I'll also say one more thing... Those two Master Arm keys will forever be proof of all of us who bought into the first run of this! LOL :P
I have no problem supporting the MiniVan in a 40s kit if there's sufficient interest. 40s kits can have trouble reaching MOQ sometimes so whatever helps alleviate the pressure. You'll have to tell me what keys are unique to the MiniVan and their sizes.
Now, on to the poll...

I know I have sworn to never do full sets, but I'm so tempted to do something very similar to this colorway in DSA...
I really do hope this set get's made as sculpted SA at some point. Especially since I was not around for the first run.

Hi Data,
Can you give any timeline for this drop?? A hint anything to keep us sane. I missed this set last time, n kick myself for it everytime I see its pics. Super excited that it will be offered in sculpted SA profile this time.
Got no problem with lead time for a set this good. There's always a catch and sometimes you just gotta deal with it. Still hoping for a drop soon though. We need more SA, more than ever with all these GMK popping up.
Hi guys. Things are beginning to solidify with Massdrop. I've got a big update coming up but here's some info to tide you over:
- We are on MD's schedule for EARLY JANUARY. That could fluctuate a little but that's where we stand at the moment. No idea what that means for manufacturing (SP).
- Sculpted SA profile was preferred almost 2 to 1 over flat R3. So that'll be our profile for Round 2. I'm in process of reorganizing the kits and Oblotzky has graciously agreed to make some more renders for us.
Good things coming... It won't be long now.

More kits were added since I posted initially about the lack of kits. Hopefully they'll continue to add at least a couple more.
On a side note, good on them for adding a 1.75u shift to the default mods kit. Hopefully this means having to spend $40-60 more on another kit just to get that one key will go away in future GB's too.
Soo is this the same? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/danger-zone-sa-keycap-set

They have a strange rule where only one primary keyset drop is running at a time. Given that the next one is a food-themed red-colored GMK drop I see no harm in an overlap.
It's out of my hands now. An extension is unlikely, in my experience. Wait at your own risk. It is strange that the group buy period was shorter than some previous SA sets. I think MD made commitments to SP that they didn't share with me. The comparatively short production time is evidence of that.
If an extension is unlikely, perhaps MD will buy out all/most of the kits to resell in a Keycap Recap, like what they did with GMK Carbon.
Yes, same reason. i’m waiting. i will wait til the last day, & if not their on the last day, I’ll just buy he alpha kits & make decision on a kit that works best with the JD40 or a similar 40% (not the planck kit, need more than 1u caps). If an extension is unlikely, perhaps MD will buy out all/most of the kits to resell in a Keycap Recap, like what they did with GMK Carbon.
It's still highly concerning that there's a week left and they don't even have all the kits posted in the buy.

I feel like you got kind of screwed with this drop. It should be a much bigger deal and yet it was almost "hushed" into Massdrop. I hope you have success with it because I love this keyset so much.

Thanks. I'm not completely blameless in all this. We didn't run as thorough of an IC as we did in Round 1, despite having the time for it, and we should have. That's on me. Also some of the kit designs weren't finalized until late in the process and that made for a confusing start. Some of that is my fault.
I don't feel like I'm being screwed though. I don't really expect to get anything out of this. That's not why I do it -- I just want to make cool keyboards. So if anything it's the fans getting kind of screwed. The price is a bit higher this time and that's definitely a factor. But there's enough here to cover the most common keyboard layouts, so I think most people will be satisfied when the drop ends... and especially when caps get delivered sometime in July (I hope that date is real!).
