My most positive on GH/MK was shared with none other than 64rky, when I was browsing mechmarket it was both me and him looking to expand our HKP collection, so we shared something in common. We would look out for each of the gasmasks we didn't have, and inform each other if we ever saw any. One day I saw that he had 2 gasmasks that I didn't have, and he had duplicates of, so I asked him if there was anything in my collection he wanted, when he responded, he outright gifted them to me, just said "here just have them - nothing in return" I was taken aback as this was the first time I had really been gifted anything online and I only kinda knew him, but as he was a solid guy, I accepted, and sure enough the next day he had sent me tracking information/confirmation, I was so excited for them to arrive. He also said that the shipping was around 12$, normal shipping is usually lower than that so I had guessed that he may have included something extra in there, and sure enough I was right! He gave me 3 packets of sweets from the US (i'm from the UK), and the 2 masks he told me he was gifting. I even have a picture when it arrived

Really nice experience with him, I am very thankful for it, a good deed to an internet stranger, hopefully I can do the same thing for others in the future. Thanks once again 64!

There is no place like GH. I am a member of other forums and have posted on other forums. However, people here like to interact and talk to each other on a level that I love. We are keyboard enthusiasts, however we are social keboard enthusiasts who love to share our passion, knowledge, opinions, and advice with others. Never have I met such selfless individuals who come together for the good of an online community or specific individuals.
I'd like to take this opportunity to name a few who I consider friends and those who've helped me along my keyboard/keycap journey:

Gutz: thank you for your nuturing attitude and wisdom, and thank you for your generosity with your time and counseling. You've helped me think/sort through a sticky situation and I consider you a great friend/mentor.

dndliomx: thank you for making me laugh and for your generosity to the community. A $177 HHKB is like a unicorn around here. I'm saving my Oreos for the perfect time to enjoy them.  :-*

Anson: you're adorable  :D

Whizzard: thank you for your talent and for donating such awesome keycaps to our community. Keep it up dude!

Sed8: you're always so happy and gracious, I love your positivity!

Nuclear Sammie: so great to meet you in person and thank you for your kind hospitality and allowing me to touch all the awesome keyboards you have! Soooooooooooooooo neat.

Bro, Binge, Boop:
I know you guys are busy and yet you still have the time to respond to my messages. Thank you for being so thoughtful and taking the time to write back!

Whenever I come here I feel like Dorothy in Oz: I get to meet some awesome friends along the way, magic abounds, and we're on this journey together!

Monday EDIT:
Forgot to mention XMIT, whom I first ran into on deskthority. This guy:
1. Works out a trade for my very first IBM Model M because I didn't have the funds at the time but really wanted one.
2. Desolders all the vintage black switches on a board I wanted prior to shipping so I didn't have to deal with the nasty, crusty board.
3. Gives me the best, most-effective way to clean switches in such detail. Super-knowledgable and super nice.

I am so grateful to you XMIT and all the support you've shown me!

When I was brand new to this keyboard community, I had just missed out on a sale from HKP by a few days. I pm'd Martin and asked if there was any way I could still get in on the sale even though it ended. Surprisingly to me he responded, and asked which artisans I wanted. I was pretty happy because pink is my favorite color and I got in on two pink artisan keycaps i still have, and will prob. never part with.

Most people on the internet are not very nice, I haven't seen any toxic threads or posts on GH and I think thats pretty cool. Yay for GH being back online. ^.^

One of my favorite memories of GH is actually one that occurred rather recently, I traded a BBv2 for some silenced Topre plungers from btctopre. We weren't sure if the modifiers were silenced or not so we settled on just trading for the non-stablized keys. Like 3 months later btctopre figured out that the silenced Topre boards do in fact include silenced modifiers. Once he figured this out he messaged me right away and offered to send them to me for free. True to his word they showed up in one piece and I've been living in full-silenced heaven ever since. I was sincerely impressed at his honesty and the fact he wanted to send them to me. He could have just as easily forget I ever existed or decided it wasnt worth the hassle but he didn't. If you read this btctopre, thanks again!

Regardless of wether or not I win anything here I would like to suggest you give sincere consideration to giving something to btctopre for being a genuine and upstanding member of the community.

The first experience I would say is with Riotonthebay, he payed for my bro caps ticket when I couldn't afford it, I was really exited and surpassed my budget of what I had. I still haven't payed him back either, he and so many others have been great to me. (So If anyone knows where I can still contact him, that'd be great, because I feel bad for not doing so.

And you brocaps for gifting me a Matte black Brocap as a gift for finally getting my HHKB I dragged out to annoying levels to get. :D

demik gave me my first fountain pen a month back and he's awesome for it, demik is way to generous, an all round good guy from how I know him, and after that Halverson, Nubbinator and I all chipped in and donated some caps for the quest to get demik his octopink clack.  And that has to be the moment where I realised "This community is ****ing fantastic"  It's such a great feeling to do a kindness back to one another.

And that's why I feel it's where I feel at home with some really good guys and gals.

Without the great community Geekhack has, I don't think it would be nearly as enjoyable.  :)

A couple of positive standouts for me:

1:  Trading with asdfjkl36 some brobots and Nubbinator caps so that his girl could get the colors she wanted.  I wasn't even looking for what he was trading, but I really wanted to help.
2:  Some trades that went down with Sed8op8.  She is downright awesome!  If you have the chance to exchange stuff with her be prepared to be showered in amazing/thoughtful gifts.  I had a lot of fun trying to outdo her, but she won.
3:  Hanging out playing Borderlands2 with CPTBadAss and Binge - some good times.  Also hanging with multiple people on Diablo3.  I usually play alone, but had a really good time playing with my GH friends.
4:  Meeting up with Nubbinator to talk keyboards/computers/beer.  He is truly one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people on this forum.  One of the people on here that I truly consider a friend.

And a huge shout out to Brocaps for continuing to have faith in this community.  You and several others are what make this a place that I want to spend my time.

The thing that was the most memorable for me was when Bunny gave me a dibs ticket for the blackout sale  because I was going to Portugal right during the sale. I seriously didn't expect that and it was really nice of him. Prior to that I never really had a chat with him or something alike. We didn't know much each other on GH nor IRL. Still he decided to make a gift which was really appreciated. I made sure to send him a parcel filled with good treats from France to thank him.

In regards to the community (not speaking about myself personally) what I really like is to see so many people helping each other even though they never met IRL. I LOVE YOU ALL GEEKHACKERS!  :-* :-*

I LOVE YOU TOO BRO!  :-*

So today I was a colossal idiot and accidentally shipped a package to the wrong address. Instead of getting mad or salty, both parties were very relaxed about it. Thanks rsadek and cheddarbek.

Really thankful that it didn't turn into something crazy. Definitely gotta work on my Bart Simpson impression right now. "I am a moron, I am a moron, I am a moron..."

A couple of positive standouts for me:

I joined GeekHack back in late 2013. After my initial search for Miami keycaps, and finding a board, I went into lurker status. Since the beginning of the year, I started to become active. The reason I say this, is to put my experience into perspective.

Once GTA V on PC was released, I joined the thread conversations and began to talk with other ppl who play. Byker was the first person to reach out to me, and we started playing together. Since then, I have "met" quite a few people here and consider them friends, even though we have never met. This story may not be the best, but as many new ppl know, it is tough to gain traction around here. Byker basically helped me learn a whole lot more and meet many people than I would've otherwise never have.

Another person that I think many people have had positive experiences with, is Bunny Lake. He was the first person I ever pm'd, asking about Miami extras. Every discussion since, and including, then has been pleasant, and very professional. Even when he publicly states he is busy and won't have time to get to PMs, he always seems to. IMO, he is a pillar to this community.

Last but not least, Bro. I have had the opportunity to speak with him/you on a few occasions, and always expected to never hear anything back. I can only imagine how many PMs you must get on a daily basis, yet you managed to help me with my mundane questions.

I just want to say thanks to Byker, Bunny, Bro Caps Radio Killah, Karura, Meiosis, Hwood, Bill Nye, Zeal, Photek, slickmamba, taylorcraig, katushkin, and SethK(pwnnarwhal). Each of these people have been very welcoming, and have been very helpful over the past few months. If I missed anyone, sorry.

I don't expect to win anything, but if by chance I do, I would like the prize to go to someone who is broless or has never won a raffle instead of me.

Air tree offered to let me get one of his caps if he made it into the Cosmos sale and I didn't, neither of us made it in, but it was awesome of him to offer! :)

Haata has organized the Bay Area GH meetups I've had so much fun at and let me keep the board that I mostly soldered at the first one I attended. :D Everyone else who goes to the meetups has been amazing too, but there's too many forum names to remember. XD

Sed8op8 always makes me smile with her posts. She's pure sunshine. :)

Really everyone here is great, though. Everyone's been helpful and nice.

And of course you yourself are amazing and while it can't go on a board as I don't have Topre, I have the amazingly sexy Juicy Fruit Red Topre Esc key I got from the last giveaway proudly displayed on my Model F at the top with the rest of my artisans. ;) I only have three of your caps but they're definitely my pride and joy and they always make me smile, and while I'm sad I never got a v1 Reaper I'm looking forward to the v2 and whatever else is coming next. (And if I win in this giveaway or the low sodium sale by some joyous miracle of glory, I will pass the Esc on to someone who does have a Topre board and doesn't have a Bro.)

I've had some great experiences with a bunch of people on GH but to highlight a few:

1. Discussing wet shaving, lifting and personal experiences with CPTBadAss. He's from where I go to school so just talking about life there and food places and such. He also welcomed me to the forum and we had a great discussion about wet shaving products. I lucked out and received him as my secret Santa so I was able to provide him with soaps, blades and a stainless steel razor handle. It was stuff he wouldn't buy himself and I  wanted to expand his horizons. I also got to talk to him about work and job prospects. Overall he is a great guy and I hope to get to meet up with him soon.

2. I've recently had a great experience with Nubbs and btctopre as both have had the patience of putting up with me and allowed me to get a hold of some 420 Bro caps. Btctopre sold me the limeade esc and fn at cost and I can't thank him enough and Nubbs had the patience to hold a Limeade V2 T until I could get reasonable trade fodder. I can't thank both of them enough for helping me get those caps.

Thanks Bro for all that you do for this community!

I unfortunately am not close to anyone on geekhack :/ I have traded and chatted with a few and really like the community as a whole. Despite this, I do believe JDCarpe is a standup guy. He has helped me a few times with some questions and has always been willing to help everyone. I hope I will have something more to contribute to a post like this down the road.

Cheers

Learning something new like compiling a hex or soldering has such a positive effect outside of keyboards - accomplishing a project is so much fun and it even increases your self confidence... That feeling you get when you finally figure it out? Priceless.

It's not a single instance of a positive interaction, it's every interaction. Nobody that knows more than me has ever talked down to me when I've asked a question. I've always been pointed in the right direction, given a great hint, and educated.

Big s/o to all the Makers on here. Like many forum members, I have spent a nontrivial amount of time and money on this. My favorite board? The one I built.

Most positive interaction and favorite person on this site is Sed8op8!

I had been looking for a brocap for months, always trying to be the quickest to sales in classifieds and /r/mechmarket and trying to win in raffles, but never winning any. I started to check the bro cap therapy thread and after a while, a giveaway was up by btctopre and my heart jumped. I quickly scrolled through the rest of the posts and found out that the cap was already given away. I was pretty sad that I missed out on a chance to get my first brocap, but then Sed8op8's post caught my eye. She also joined the giveaway and was giving out a powder puff purple esc key! I quickly posted my information and turns out that I won it! A couple days later, she sent the cap and I received my first and most loved bro cap.

I always felt like I owed something to her, since she gave away a cap to me just because of her kindness and her wanting for others to experience the joy that is bro caps. I got pretty lucky in /r/mechmarket and picked up a topre three kings V2. Ashley showed some interest in it, because she was trying to complete a three kings/pharaoh set on her topre board. I wanted to help her finish her set badly and she was kind enough to trade a kbk cap to me in exchange, since it was also my first taste in kbk caps. So now, I have a powder puff purple esc and a mummy 2 :thumb: Hopefully she completes her pharaoh set soon, because I know its gonna be awesome on her board. So if anyone has a pharaoh reaper, please contact Sed8op8! Awesome to trade with and is the most friendly person I've dealt with on GH so far.

Here are some pics of what I have received from her!

I think the kindest thing anyone in this community has done for me was on r/mk. One of the users on there was trying to sell some of their artisans and were having trouble selling some of them. I had just bought my first keyboard a week before and was loving it. I didn't have any artisans at this point and didn't know how much they were worth. I told this to the seller and instead of selling me the keycap they ended up giving it to me for free. Due to their actions I have always tried to be as kind and helpful to the people in this community so thank you /u/64rky for giving me that Raven for free and not even letting me pay for shipping! Because of people like them this community is able to thrive and grow. This community is powered not by the saltiness of the few, but by the sweetness of the many! Good luck to everyone in the giveaway!!

PS: I lost the visor to the Raven. RIP. I'm sorry. I will keep this cap forever those as a reminder to always treat people with kindness and fairly in any transaction.

Well in general I love talking to the members that I do. It's always fun to talk to people who understand the hobby and share others with me. But my most memorable/ favorite GH moment happened last weekend. Out of nowhere a week or two ago Hoff asked me if I liked the Flaming Lips and invited me to go see them at Summer Fest with him. We met up at his buddy Peter's place in Milwaukee and took a shuttle to the festival where we met up with one of Peter's friends while we watched the Mariners. After them we headed over to the FLips and I made sure my mind was in the right place.  :))

The concert was mind blowing, Hoff told me they were very theatrical but I wasn't expecting what they did. There were huge inflatables walking around the stage and crazy lights. One song had a lizard in a suit, santa, and a shark. The night was all about cool music and hanging out with bros. "Best concert I've ever experienced" Hoff

Also after we got back to Pete's place we went to qdoba which is always good.

Thanks for the giveaway Bro!

Probably the most positive, memorable interaction I've ever had over the internet happened in GH where I met one of the nicest people ever, Cottonsox. He probably doesn't know this, but he helped me get through a rough pathc a few months ago when there were heavy winds around my area destroying a tree and the fence in my backyard leading to the robbery of some of my old gaming consoles that I've had since I was young. Talking to him helped me take my mind off things when I was trapped inside my house for a whole week, and I could never forget the numerous amounts of awesome things he has done for me  :)  :-*

My favorite, positive interaction that I had with GH as a whole was during the clackvent event. As sad as it is with Clack's health those couple of months were some of my favorite times in my short time at GH with all the gif wars, clackvent troll posts, clack therapy threads and really the first time I came to appreciate this community.

A few positive interactions I've personally had within the GH/Reddit community was when I had a giveaway for the one off GH themed UMAD in celebration of the Hack'd by Geeks keyset which ultimately ended up being won by Rowdy.

Another positive interaction I had was during the first KWK sale where I ended up giving away one of the Warus that I won to Hwood34 for free when he had missed the sale because of something (I forgot, it's been a while since that sale :))) which was the first time I ever talked with him and only gave it to him solely because of how much of a fan he was of Hipster/PD's work.

EDIT:

I can't believe I forgot to add this (thanks byker for reminding :))) but I pretty much feel exactly the same way as him :

Shout out to all my homies on skype, talking to them on skype so much has made my post count drop: tbc, karura, moralless byker, clacktalk, ghostjuggernaut, zealPC, radio_killah, billnye, photekq, sethk_, hwood34, meiosis, slickmamba, vesperSAINT, taylordcraig, and the list goes on.. Without these guys, I probably would have moved on from this community, after finding my favourite board (HHKB for life), but I have found a set of friends in them.  :-*

Mine are not too overwhelming, but I shall post anyway. Lots of people have been extremely helpful, or just plain nice to me. My first PM was to HoffmanMyster, I was asking about a keyboard in his flair, and he responded very quickly with links to everything and asked if I needed anything else. When I was looking into getting my SSK restored by phosphorglow, I messaged several users who I saw had used his service before, most were to Snowdog993, he answered all my questions, showed me pictures of his keyboard, and asked me about it later on after I got it back. My most recent nice thing was by livingspeedbump. I had a fairly large order for Jukebox and had to cut all of it out but the base set, and get rid of another set to pay for it since I needed to help a family member out financially, and living speed bump told me he would try to help me acquire some of the child deals at a later point, which was very nice of him since my comment did not even mention why I needed to make my order smaller. Something similar happened with BunnyLake, when SA Retro was coming to an end, I asked him if I could pay late, and he was totally ok with it, and did not even ask me why, that is the reason I now prefer gh organized group buys to Massdrop. I ended up being able to pay on time but appreciated being able to pay late if I would have needed to. I am not going to say anything I have done for others, I try to be as nice as possible, but really do not have anything that sticks out to me as something I have done that would make a difference to someone, other than give some things that were not very valuable, and making small donations here and there. Overall this site is very welcoming, and has been since my first post in the new members section, that is what I like about this place.

On reddit, I was new to the entire MK community and had just bought my first Ducky Legend keyboard.  Determined to add some individuality, I started to look into and posted about buying some artisan keycaps.  Through the keycaps buying wiki, I found the K3YD shop.  I reached out to u/RaVNzCRoFT who runs the shop, and he helped me design my own brand new keys from scratch.  He dealt extremely thoroughly with all of my newbie questions on the designs, the manufacturing process, the colors of the finished products, prices, everything.  He was a truly stand-up guy, and put up the 2 keys he designed for me in his store: https://www.shapeways.com/product/DT89ZH32R/backlit-escape-keycap-r4-1x1 (https://www.shapeways.com/product/DT89ZH32R/backlit-escape-keycap-r4-1x1) and https://www.shapeways.com/product/J5WZT79CZ/nerv-logo-backlit-keycap-r4-1x1?optionId=57185099 (https://www.shapeways.com/product/J5WZT79CZ/nerv-logo-backlit-keycap-r4-1x1?optionId=57185099).  They keys came out great and my keyboard is coming together wonderfully!

One of the reasons why I stay here is due to the amount of community-ness and sense of belonging in Geekhack. I experienced many positive interactions along my time here, I never knew a (what they call a rare) hobby would bring me closer to a community where geographically with most of the members I’m halfway across the globe.

The one thing that just top it all off; was when Nubb held a giveaway where you can nominate someone suitable to receive a particulate prize. That’s when I started to become friend with Vesper (where I nominated him and we won 2nd); and we’ve been saying hi from time to time ever since. To start with an admiration over his collection and photos to become an interaction is amazing when you think of it.

Not to mention how I admire people like Nubb who contribute so much to the community. It proves that there are still people who care and have high sense of contributing without expecting something in return in this world; believe me, that since I live in a corporate world where we try to suck up everything we can.

Positive interaction? this community keep me sane

My favorite, and most memorable experience happen right when I joined geekhack and posted some pictures of my 3D printed keycaps... Binge message me almost immediately, asking for advice on learning CAD (which I can't really give them best advice on haha) and that really made me love geekhack.  A community so great that even the big guys aren't worried about asking for advice.  The recognition and respect I have gained for and from everyone here has definitely made for a great time.

moose gifted me a keyboard brush from techkeys my first couple weeks into geekhack after i entered hoffman's giveaway asking for one. you could imagine how appreciative i was of the gesture not only because of the wonderful gift, but because as a little fish in this big ****in sea, i felt acknowledged.

there have been countless positive interactions with a handful of gh members since then, but that one's by far the most memorable and the one i bring up most during conversation.

in recent news, byker offered me his spot in the binge preorder, which is really really cool. hands down favorite canadian

Mine is a story of right place at the right time on reddit. I was browsing the Starcraft 2 Sub and stumbled upon someone selling a mech board. http://imgur.com/a/wYD3G (http://imgur.com/a/wYD3G) This is the board that ended up being my first. Signed by 2 amazing SC2 pros and my favorite color to boot. Ever sense then, I've talked to Squid a couple times, asking about various things I didn't understand and he was happy to help. The general kindness in folks around here is really heartwarming and I truly love that. I'm fairly new around here, but I know I'll be here for a good while. Cheers and keep makin' killer caps you 2!

On GH:

Would have to be sethk_. Awesome guy. Back on one of Katz's sales, he gave his spot in the sale to those who had missed out of the sale since he already had some Katz caps. I was the recipient of it. I hope to one day repay this by paying it forward too.

On GH/Reddit:

Would definitely be BTCTopre. Most stand-up guy I've had the pleasure of dealing with. Also the one that somewhat kinda got me really addicted to artisan caps and Topre. Who would've thought  :p !

On Reddit:

Definitely /u/kudos_and_godspeed. Was kind enough to gift me part of his first batch of artisans that he made after I had been in long contact with him over previous things. His work is awesome, and I'm glad that he is finally better, and I'm looking forward to his full release of artisan caps. His Meowcaps that he and his wife duo-made are the cutest freaking things ever.

Damn, it's so hard to choose just one, so I'll do a list of things that have just been awesome lately:

One of the first that came to mind was the participants in the Clack charity raffle (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=72139.0).  It was awesome to see people donating to some awesome causes with the knowledge that they might not get anything, but being content in knowing that they helped out a worthy cause.  Even more awesome was seeing all the people jump in and give to charity without wanting to be counted int the raffle and seeing DanielT offer up a Scarface cap as a prize as well.  Seeing the winners so excited about the prizes and showing off pictures with their setups was also great, especially since I don't think either had won a cap yet.  I still remember how awesome it was to get my first Clack from Jocelyn, so I'm sure they had a similar feeling.

Summer Santa was also awesome (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=63501.0), for the most part.  There were a ton of people who went above and beyond in their gifts, stalking their giftee and giving some really thoughtful gifts.  I know I had a ton of fun coming up with little things like the Boba Catt magnet (http://www.jennyparks.com/shop/boba-catt-magnet) and little paintings I did since my person said they loved Boba Fett, cats, and space.  Some people are really gifted and talented, so there was a lot of cool hand made stuff.  It was also awesome to see Sed8op8, Halverson, Badwrench, and CPTBadAss all offer to throw something together to send to Rotaku after he got screwed by his Santa.  I know he liked my little holdover package, but I love seeing people band together as a community.

One of the most generous and awesome one's for me lately was my quest for an OG Skeletor Reaper.  I never thought I'd ever see one, but so many people came forward and offered caps up to help me get one.  Maybe it was karma for helping out demik and sending on little gifts to some people, maybe it was just people being awesome and generous, whatever it was I felt incredibly blessed to have so many people there offering to help.  I hope I'm not missing someone, but demik, Belfong, sed8op8, and trizkut all generously stepped up and offered stuff up for trade to try and make it happen.  Turns out they weren't needed, but it was awesome to feel so much love.  Then all these people sprang up out of nowhere with trade offers.  I felt like I was taking advantage with one of the trades and kept offering to add more, but everyone said they were happy the trade and with what was sent out.  I threw in some small extras as a thank you.  Then came the day of reckoning and the cap showed up and now it sits happily on my HHKB.

I'm hiding this last one because part of me feels wrong bringing it up in a giveaway thread since it almost feels exploitative, but it really is one of the most heartwarming things I've seen on here with some of the best interactions:
More
By far the most humbling and all around heartwarming thing on here has been the Do it for Destiny thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71569.0).  I'm a horrible person and still haven't come up with something for Destiny, but it's by far one of the most generous threads I've seen.  You have a little girl who is going through some serious ****, yet she is so upbeat and everyone is making awesome little gifts and drawings for her.

And how can I forget when slickmamba sent me his HHKB Type-S and Hoffman sent me his FC660C to try for as long as I wanted.  They both lent me the boards to try to convert me to the cult of Topre and trusted me to not mess them up and to get the board back to them.  As you can tell, their conversion therapy worked as my HHKB is one of my favorite boards.

There's also the Ragerot that Hipster sent me.  It was one of the few Clacks I had to have and he sent it to me without any expectations of anything in return.  It was a super generous action, one that I'm still grateful for as it's one of my favorite caps.

I've seen stuff in here that made my blood boil, but I've had so many interactions on here lately that renewed my faith in people and really made it feel like community.  When people here band together, it's such an awesome thing to see and an even more awesome thing to be a part of.  There really are some generous and community minded people on here and seeing them always makes me feel a little pride that I can be a small part of it too.

demik gave me my first fountain pen a month back and he's awesome for it, demik is way to generous, an all round good guy from how I know him, and after that Halverson, Nubbinator and I all chipped in and donated some caps for the quest to get demik his octopink clack.  And that has to be the moment where I realised "This community is ****ing fantastic"  It's such a great feeling to do a kindness back to one another.

demik is the nicest cynical and bitter ******* you will ever meet.  That really was fun getting him that cap.

You and several others are what make this a place that I want to spend my time.

sed8op8 has come out swinging as a newbie.  Not many people have won so much respect so fast.  And CPTBadAss is an all around great guy.  While his love of pink and purple goes a little too far sometimes, he's one of the most helpful and generous people here.

Let me know when it comes time to send out the Alps caps.  I can come down and we can beer, sort, and ship.  It's always fun hanging out with you and you have such a nice wife and cute little munchkin.

Well, it was going to get to you one way or another, even if it was sold at cost or traded for something I wasn't super keen on.  I saw how much you wanted it and how cool you've been in the community, so of course I was going to get it to you.  It was great that it worked out to getting something I'll be able to use though.

Shout out to all my homies on skype, talking to them on skype so much has made my post count drop: tbc, karura, moralless, clacktalk, ghostjuggernaut, zealPC, radio_killah, billnye, photekq, sethk_, hwood34, meiosis, slickmamba, vesperSAINT, taylordcraig, and the list goes on.. Without these guys, I probably would have moved on from this community, after finding my favourite board (HHKB for life), but I have found a set of friends in them.  :-*

In particular, GhostJuggernaut has been a super cool guy to talk too. I recommend you all get to know him better! We chat about a bunch of different things, and he has graciously offered me my dream Bot at retail, something which doesn't happen very often.  :-*

Second shoutout goes to vesperSAINT. He is great to talk to and was my first good friend on the forum. We play games together and chat about our mutual love of topre, every day.  :-*

A while back I was in a very bad place emotionally. My dad who was my best friend and the person I always counted on to be there for me when I was struggling with something or needed advice, passed away. He was healthy and strong and became ill of pancreatitis. Unfortunately his lungs were affected and within a couple weeks God decided it was time he took him home. Since then I have become the man of my house, struggling in graduate anesthesia school and trying to fill an impossible void for my 3 younger sisters and my mother. Needless to say, but it ****ing sucked. Not long after I became introduced to this site and became fascinated by the custom keycaps and culture of keyboards in general. I also soon learned how difficult it was to acquire said keycaps and was becoming evermore frustrated at my lack of ability or luck to land even a single cap. In hindsight I am sure that investing so much of myself into the site was a futile way to cover up the emotional pain I was experiencing due to losing my dad but I was lost and anything that could take away my sorrow for even a moment was invaluable.

After multiple failed sales and failed attempts to get a cap through classifieds my frustration began turning to anger at peopl who had nothing to do with any of this. I eventually raged and left some sort of post asking for help but honestly didn't think I was even going to get a reply. That was when SynJin and  also sed8op8, took the time to reach out to me and lend me some advice and encouragement. Additionally they also both offered me caps from their own collection if the well continued to run dry. They both don't know any of this back story nor near how ****ty I was feeling at the time, but their messages definitely raised my spirits and made a difference in my life. So to them I send a big thank you and to all in this community. Sometimes you help people in ways you would never even think.

This is probably the most surprising thing that has happened to me for using GH. I posted a thread in the keyboard section, and after around 30 minutes, someone sent me a pm. The username is naokira and he's asking if there are any other mkb enthusiasts in the Philippines. It made me wonder on how he found out that I'm from the PH, I then remembered that it's on my profile  :)). I told him that we have a Facebook group for mkb owners in the PH (https://www.facebook.com/groups/PHkeyboards/), and asked him to join. The local community's response is always a warm welcome. He(naokira) was surprised that there was a Facebook group, and suggested for a meetup to also try boards from other members. /u/keikun17 gave it a go and did an interest check in the group for the meetup date and location. At the meetup - naokira told me that infiniti is also from PH, but is a busy person and laid low from local mkb community forums. We all had a great time and it's the first time that we met each other in physical form.  :D

The meetup was a success and we're looking forward into joining/organizing local mkb meetups in the future. :)

I have a couple of memorable stuff on GH, stuff with members of GH, and other members of the community on other forums. In general the people on here are very easy going when being invited into a group or if you are playing games with someone, and it feels like it only takes 10 minutes on here to befriend someone. One thing that I really like about GH as someone who is ambitious about designing my own board and modifying my current ones, is the excess of skilled people on here willing to help out. I feel like a lot of the more fun stuff here gets shifted to the bottom as keycaps are a large part of GH, and one of the things that I really like on here is CptBadAss's 'zine. One of my favorite parts of the hobby is that almost regardless of which forum you go to, and even if language is an issue, there are people willing to help. Monstermask of winkeyless (hojin.yi on here) is very helpful and quick to respond to emails, and is offering help on one of my ideas. I probably enjoy making stuff together on here the most, as I have always had more fun doing something on here with other people, rather than by myself, even if it is something small.

The kindest interaction in my memory was a post from Hoff. He happened to find my post about how I really wanted to try to win a Brobot V2 (when I realized the design would come to an end soon), and said to me that I let him know if I don’t get into the next sale :D I was surprised at the kind of selflessness some have for others and making their stay in the forum better in any way they can. I was so happy and I actually ended up winning the next sale! Waddaya know! Haha. It was a kind gesture I couldn’t forget.  I’m planning to hold my own giveaway in the next keycaps I end up winning, so stay tuned ;) I do think he had a big part of helping me form the correct approach to winning these, and it’s all about enjoying the craftsmanship and excitement in the luck of the draw. That’s why after some bad experiences in trying to trade them, I’ve decided to start clean and I’m back to having no keycaps at all.

Like some members I've seen, I want to be helpful in any way I can to the community. I tried to answer messages I get about my HHKB or questions about mice to the best of my knowledge. I know that when I was a new member I had a lot of questions too. I’m glad I’ve tried out a lot of different mice now and can help others with that a bit, at least! Ask me about CS:GO too! :)
There’s many small groups within GeekHack that are welcoming and helpful to those who join the discussions. As an example, when I briefly visited the Fountain pen section and asked for some help on my writing I was met with really great resources and self-made guides (on the spot!) that were carefully made by members CPTBadAss and Booper. Thanks again guys. I’ve yet to post some of my own writing and I’ll have to get to that soon! There’s also the CS:GO group which I’ve had the pleasure to meet, they are all so funny and I love talking to them and playing the game with them. Something about sharing different hobbies while knowing there’s a common interest among us all is a great feeling.

Anyway, these are just some of the best parts of GeekHack I’ve experienced, thanks for reading!

Here's a random picture I dedicate to my hero(drawn in MSpaint with my mouse! rofl):

I could name SO many people from the Destiny thread, but I'm going to cut out the people who already won stuff and/or have really gone the extra mile to get a smile over these last couple weeks of very tough treatment.

inanis has been my GH rock since it was first a design contest then a giveaway. She and her family have been in constant contact with me from day 1 via posts, PMs, snail mail, and so on. inanis is the one who donated the Kindle Fire for Des's birthday; this is a VITAL tool for her mood, education, and to keep her busy while locked away for 10 weeks +. Her daughter rocks a pendant in support and sends us beautiful cards. I am forever in debt to the inanis family for their never-ending love and support. Y'all have no idea.

Two GH people in this last week have made me realize that the wyfe and I have been neglecting ourselves; nubbs is sending us out on a date night in the city after Des goes back to CHOP for round 2 of stem cell. I can't remember how long it has been since we did anything like this. And heedpantsnow sent wyfe the last piece of her easter Powder Puff puzzle for her HHKB.

I'll never forget ANY of you that have supported us, but I had to pick the most recent things that really damn near made me cry.

Geekhack is seriously one of my favorite places on the internet and I'm so glad that everyone is back! I dearly missed visiting and chatting with people I do on a daily basis.

My first super positive interaction was with DanielT when he sold me my first Topre artisan! It was by far an enthusiastic time for me, and even threw in some sweet extras.

Demik is my favorite person on GH. That might be hard to believe for some of you, but totes believe it. He gave me my Pink KWK set to match my theme, and I'm preparing something cool for him too *wiiiiiiiiiiink. I could talk to that "cynical and bitter *******" everyday lol. It was awesome seeing how much Nub, Airtree, and a few others tried their hardest to get him that damn Octopink CC. It took awhile, but they succeeded!

Sed is also one my favorites. She slowly grows on you :P Super generous to everyone and incredibly enthusiastic about this hobby -- some of her descriptions of keys are just hilariously good. I had the pleasure to talk her up one day, and it was joy. Even more so, later on, I even got to trade with her and it was awesome! She always includes some sweet VT goodies and it makes you want to live up there and eat all their candy.

I've also been slowly amassing a collection, and I decided recently that I wanted to give back - and I recently accomplished my first keycap giveaway! The set-up was really goofy, but I believe that thread was just pure fun for everyone that joined in. The participant had to pick out a Jurassic Park t-shirt design for me as they submitted their entry. In the end, it was super fun and hopefully I can do one again in the future.

I had a recent transaction with Finleye on Reddit for some KWK caps and he was late shipping my item by a day. Not a big deal right? But he insisted on including an extra novelty cap for me because of that! He also sent me a freaking awesome Dice keychain with MX Blacks. I love it.

Also, Bctopre really needs some love. Recently traded with him for the sickest Binge Keyng that I own now. He included some sweet extra caps and a little Hammer bag, which I was utterly shocked by. A really great and helpful guy all around. ;)

Another amazing time I had on here was creating a Techkeys graphic for i3oilermaker. It was a lot of work, but so worth it in the end. I had an awesome time making it. He also secretly sent me a Hapster in my Sadster order :) Which seriously made my day when I noticed it!

Everyone in Off Topic deserves a shout out from me. Seriously, the funniest people up in there and I would give you all a million hugs.

There's some people I know I didn't mention, but you guys are the greatest, trust me.
I have really just had a lot of super positive experiences here, in a very short amount of time, and that's truly what makes this place worth while.

It's hard to just choose one interaction, you guys are all so nice  :)

But anyways, I haven't been around here very long, only since about January or so, so I'm fairly new

But my most memorable experience has been when I helped someone fix their keyboard matrix on a handwired board. It felt awesome helping someone that I had never met before. I really enjoy helping people, it gives me a nice feeling on the inside  :)

so i did...

and it felt good...

The sheer openness and generosity of the community on GH is the most prominent thing to me and what keeps me coming back day after day. Whether it be members letting us into a bit of their personal lives and allowing us to help out in any little way we can or giving away stuff from their personal collections to let newbies start their own collections, I don’t have to name names because I’m sure you guys know who you are and you are awesome!  :thumb:

I’m glad I stumbled upon this community and have been welcomed with open arms. Thanks for all the good feels guys the awesome community is what makes me proud to be part of GH!   :-*

My most positive interaction on Geekhack has to be with Nubbinator

Once upon a time I contacted Nubbinator about making a blue 'A Clockwork Heart', he had issues with the blue resin during casting and this left him several duds. Because of the length of time, he sent me a one off Heart and Deckerson, all of the Heart duds and a Brown Heart (heart of sharts) because we had been joking about a cap with a swirly poo on top (LOL). Also noted that he has been very generous each time I have gotten into a sale and has always sent more than i ordered/won

Super garbage picture ... (all of the caps have been given away minus one blue and the brown heart)

This cap will never leave me .. LOL
(http://i.imgur.com/wFElmGf.jpg)

I have many other positive tales from GH but the above sticks out the most in my head, honorable mentions include;

* Binge - Made and given me a number of caps
* Skcheng - Sent me a free BroBot V2 .. epicness
* JDCarpe - Gave me a Kindle when i had surgery on face (total bro)
* Krytone - Let me be the 'Guinea Pig' for a number of his caps

Im sure there are more, but these are the ones that really stick out

It started at r/mk about 6 months ago on my rubber dome keyboard, scrolling through the sub and mirin' all the fancy keysets and artisan caps that people had collected through the years. I spend a lot of time in front of computers so there was no reason to not buy myself a mechanical keyboard, go big or go home as they say.

Anyways, u/GenKan on r/mk was hosting a giveaway for a Ducky keychain and I always wanted to have one of those. All you had to do was to give one reason why you deserve it. I simply said that I don't own any fancy stuffs and that I'm still new to all of this, all I had was a CM rapid-i keyboard. He picked me and even sent me some (surprise) extras to help me out.
This is how I got my first artisan cap, a HKP armor cap! And I'm still so happy about it.
I'm aiming for hosting my own giveaway one day, particularly for newcomers so I can pass the favor.

I also got my very first Nub cap thanks to beehatch in her recent giveaway! It's still in the mail and I'll be sure to thank her one extra time when it arrives.
I've also been slowly amassing a collection, and I decided recently that I wanted to give back - and I recently accomplished my first keycap giveaway! I've had my share of ****ty and toxic communities like MOBAs so this is something very new to me, a community where everyone isn't trying to screw you over. I'm sure I'll be around here for a very long time. <3

I've really had nothing but great experiences with GH. The first thing that comes to mind is when btctopre was doing a giveaway for a free Topre ZomBro to those who were bro-less, and at the time I had zero artisans (and I legitimately had a hard time believe someone was actually doing this!), and I posted in the thread, and turns out, that's how I got my first bro! I really didn't expect to actually get anything, but that just really made me way too happy, and I can't thanks btctopre enough! Also, the geekhack Summer Santa exchange just happened, and I didn't get a package. Nubbs reached out to me and decided to help out, and so did others in the thread who I (also) can't thank enough! I've honestly never been part of a community with such generous people, and everyone here makes the community as great as it is today :)

When I stumbled upon geekhack I said "LOL look at these people drooling over somekind of rainbow keycaps.... HOLY **** THAT IRON MAN CAP IS SO COOL"
That's when I was instantly hooked. Not just that simple iron man keycaps but all metal things. Them korean customs are giving me fever dreams if you will, then I started looking at it more and more.

Then there was this giveaway of a metal keypuller by sleepy916.  I WON! This was the first time, I won something in the internet.
That when I realized, "wow there's nothing like this in my country or any dank websites I've gone through".

Shoutout to sleepy916 for the MKC keypuller that is still with me :)

A random link to the sadster keys groupbuy.  Sold me on the mechanical keyboard idea, and I got 3 cool keys to start off.  I'm still getting into it, but, so far, I'm loving the community!  So many nice people!  :D

This should be easy, short and sweet. Once upon a time a magical meatbro helped out a noob Sifo by modding his Filco. It got lost in the mail on the way back to me so I bought a new Filco and sir bro caps redid everything and sent me another, covering all parts and labour. Probably my most memorable interaction.

It'd have to be Hoff. Back in Christmas he had this artisan sale where he was selling really nice caps for retail price. Me just joining the game only 3 months ago, I lost every single sale and Hoff was the only guy who made me a winner.
But it gets better

So he actually forgets about my cap but was really responsive and nice when I messaged him about it. He even made it a priority to make sure my artisan got to me ASAP.

And to this day, that cap he sold me is still my favorite cap I have.

I've had nothing but good interactions with everyone here, really.  As a relatively new guy, I don't have a lot to offer for the good caps that only go up for trades.  Now and again I'll ask if anyone will sell them instead of trade them and almost every time, the OPs will at least politely decline.  There was also a user on both Reddit and GH who agreed to sell me a wonderful Zombro.  I promised I'd keep his name on the mum, but I'm incredibly grateful for that.  It's even helped me persuade a few of my coworkers to get in on the hobby.

Every time I post what's probably a dumb or rote little question, somebody is kind enough to politely answer, which is itself a really kind act considering the general demeanor of people in online discussions.

Basically, thanks everyone!

early into this hobby, I had a classifieds transaction with frank(clacktalk) and realized we live 15 min away from each other. decided to meet up in person and he was nice enough to bring out his hhkb and kmac happy. up to this point I had only read people's rave reviews about hhkbs and ergo clears and korean customs and was so pumped to finally try them out in person. frank turned out to be one cool dude and I owe him for introducing me the ways of the ergo-clear and for showing me what a great community this is. thanks dude!

there are some really touching tearjerking stories up in here, but if this some how gets picked, please send the giveaways straight to clacktalk. great guy. :thumb:

The best interaction I've probably had with any Geekhack member would be strict. When I was pretty new to keyboards, I messaged him to tell him how awesome his green Topre Stump was. After a while, we got to talking about our lives, and how things were going. Eventually out of nowhere he offered my the stump for retail because he recently got a really cool car and needed some money. I gladly accepted, and I'll always be grateful for that. I have since passed on the keycap and the favor, but I'll always remember strict as a nice guy and overall great collector.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/37zbh9/discussion_artisan_caps_rise_of_art_or_fall_of/

I found out about keyboards from a friend in FFXIV (final fantasy online mmo). I realized a lot of my skills/abilites weren't registering and I attributed that to a crappy keyboard. He mentioned r/mechanicalkeyboards and told me to check it out in order to educate myself. I fell in love with keyboards immediately and each day I visited I learned something new. Eventually I found my way to geekhack. At first I didn't understand the site at all, I couldn't figure out who was replying to who and how new each submission was etc. I also felt like everyone knew each other really well and I'd never fit in. At r/mechboards it was nice cause I felt like most people were anonymous and so I didn't feel like an outcast. But little by little I found myself more and more on GH because I felt like it was more in-depth in terms of group buys and keyboard knowledge. As I began to explore, I eventually found out about artisan caps and eventually my ideal dream board. At first artisans were just w/e to me but when I saw my dream board at https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=65501.0 I noticed it had something. Two brobots. I knew I'd never have that board completed or be able to start on something like that without those two bro's. So I decided to look into things more like where can I get those and which ones are they. I quickly found out that in order to get a bro I either needed to be really lucky and win a raffle and then from there trade around until I eventually got the two I wanted or I'd have to spend a lot of money. The deeper I dug the more I learned and eventually I dug too deep and found some fighting that had gone on. I read all the comments and found myself torn and upset. Who was right and who was wrong? I found myself trying to justify my feelings but in the end I just ended up feeling sick to my stomach and wanting to quit the whole mech thing. At that point I still didn't even have a mech yet and so months of research and trying to become a part of a niche community felt wasted. Why fight over plastic? I eventually voiced my comments in a reddit thread (the OP was complaining about a GH GB) about how I was feeling let down by all the hate and anger. Livingspeedbump replied to my comment and he said some really nice and comforting things. For whatever reason I decided to look at his profile after that and found that about 2 weeks prior he created a thread regarding artisans (the link to it is at the start of this comment) and set it up as a safe discussion on how the community felt. It was so awesome to see so many positive things said and many people gave very constructive criticism. No one was angry or flaming. That thread alone completely changed my attitude and I was reminded that I'm doing this whole keyboard thing for fun. After that I started to get more involved with GH  to be more involved with both communities and just got over all the hate. Its not worth being upset over plastic or being jealous of others. It's not worth fighting. So thanks to r/mechboards and GH I have finally found a hobby I actually like and want to stick with. I have my first mech (ducky 3tkl) with 2 ordered (varmilio tkl and kc60) and I've also ordered a TEX acrylic case and a ton of GB keysets. I even have a few artisans now :) (HKP/matt3o's pumpkin/voidtek skull) and I don't plan to stop anytime soon! I'm still new here and can't wait to get to know you all better! So thanks again to r/mechboard, GH, and Livingspeedbump

To be honest, I still consider myself really new to the whole mechanical world.  Only towards December 2014, did I accidentally stumbled across the /mk and geekhack forums after someone had posted their Poker II w/ Dota 2 Keycap, Blue/White Ducky PBT blanks, and with a matching coiled Pexon cable on the /pcmasterace subbreddit (Looking back at things, it's amazing how much I can now easily dissect and pick apart each component of a modded keyboard which pales in comparison to when I first started where I didn't know what the hell I was looking at)

After being inspired with the Poker 2 pictures (and of course with a lot of research), I knew my first keyboard would undoubtedly had to be a 60% board with an aftermarket aluminum case.  It so happened that around this time the newly Pok3r was also announced and I knew this would be the "first" to pop the cherry.

Subsequently, my fondest memory within the community is easily the mayhem and crazy hype that would follow suite with the Pok3r release ---  e.g. prelease news, places to buy, shipment confirmations, countless of box openings, of course the giant megathread on /mk and also some of the $h1tposts towards 60% in general :D).  Without a doubt, this brought back high school memories for me similar to the past "next gen" console release (Xbox 360, PS3).  Basically the excitement and buzz feeding of from the massive lines and countless of news coverage on the console release. While also doing the standing in a massive line for 16+ hours with your pre-order stub in hand :)

All in all, this is the one memory that I will remember for quite some time when I think of the /mk community and one that I feel bless to have shared with the community.  Of course, it also helps since this also coincided with my first mechanical purchase.  But I've come to realize just like many of you, this hobby can quickly get out of hand and now I"m looking to deckout my keyboard with the community designed keysets (Pulse, 1976), recently bought my first Artisan Keycaps (WoB), and planning to attend my first mechanical meetup here in Seattle come August.

Anyhow, I just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone that is part of this awesome community ---  e.g. manufacturers, keyset designers, artisan cap makers, event organizers, and of course keyboard enthusiasts.   It's awe inspiring in with the amount of heart and soul people put into this community that truly makes it one of a kind.

the best part of GH is the people here that like to do awesome projects even on a tiny scale - the result is more important than the cost, the time spent perfecting something is more important than the hype or the name recognition. matt3o, hasu, metalliqaz, jdcarpe, haata - not just longtime members with a lot of posts, but fantastic work from their tireless efforts. i didn't mean to leave anyone out but the point is not the individuals named - it's about the community effort and the feeling of teamwork that is so cool to me.
for a more recent, personal and specific example, hasu's work on the tmk firmware and custom controllers is nothing short of amazing - he even made a batch of TMK controllers for HHKB Pro 1 which has very little representation compared to the HHKB pro2. i asked him early on when the pro2 controller was released if he'd ever make one for the pro1. he said it was unlikely due to the lower number of pro1s but just a few months later i got a PM saying he decided to make a pro1 controller anyways. now i have a custom HHKB that's about half my age- pretty cool!!!

I am still fairly new here.
even with that being said, every interaction I have had here has been A+.
the sourcing that people do here blows my mind... whether it is for a small purchase of 5 items, or purchasing 2500+ of one sadface key cap.
the fact that everyone here is eager to invite new members and share their wisdom is so amazing.
sometimes it just makes me think that I am not doing enough to help out this community, but hopefully in the future I can.
there are many times where I would love to have an infinite wallet, just so I could help support all the crazy good ideas on here.
this is a great community with endless opportunity.
I wish i had found GH sooner.

I'm not sure how the community sees me, but I can clearly say how I see the community.

The friends that I met during my time at Geekhack are much more precious then the keyboards themselves, I began my keyboard hobby on OTD.kr but ended up falling in love with the Geekhack community, I have met and interacted with many people who I still talk to today. From thick and thin, I love Geekhack for everything it is, there are just some selfless people on here who will go above and beyond to help me.

One of my most memorable moments on Geekhack was the impromptu meet up held when Leeku from Kbdlab visited the USA, we messaged everyone in Northern California and met up to nerd out, amazing people who I have stayed in contact with for many years and I finally got to meet them in person, there is no point in this keyboard hobby without people to share it with!

Shout outs:
First one isn't really a shout out, rather an overdue apology to nubbinator, I am sorry I once got angry and lost my temper at you and said many things that I did not really mean, this was over two years ago, and I am sorry I did not apologize sooner. I really do respect all the work you put into keyboards and your artistic talents are unmatched.

VesperSaint: You broke me out of my shell, one of the first people I talked to when I joined, we talked about anime and kpop, and you helped introduce me to people who had common interests.

Bunnylake: Perhaps my first interaction into keyboards, I remember you almost bought my black HHKB (the initial reason I joined), we ended up becoming friends through our common interests, I know you are someone I can always rely on to finish what you started, you are truly a man who gives without expecting to receive. Through everything, I'm lucky to have been your friend.

Sent: one of  the first people I talked to almost daily for months, wish we still talked more :(, but I know you are busy!

Ninjadoc1: My elder, so knowledgeable and can talk for days about anything, helped me out a lot, and very caring.

Neo.X:
BABY COME BACK

Skype group closest friends:
Clacktalk: Too much in common, we were instant buddies. All the nights of playing GTA until 4 am together...
Slickmamba: ended up road tripping together out of the blue, mini keycon-west, great guy who taught me how to CS:GO.
TheByker: Canadian 'nuff said.
Taylordcraig: Someone I can trust with just about anything, amazingly talented at everything he does!
GhostJuggernaut/Jim: The model American, with a soft heart and generous
Karura/Kevin: Probably the nicest guy I've ever met, I don't think I've ever heard him talk behind someones back, only offers to help but never asks for anything in return (Canadian, but better!)
Radio_Killah: Amazing guy, puts friends first and never asks for anything.
billnye and Photekq: Although you and Josh act like you don't know better (trolls), I know you two both are very caring and defensive towards friends, even if you guys garnered the collective hate of geekhack, you still put friendship first, and that's what matters.
yicaoyimu: We've talked a lot, for a time I thought you disappeared, but you came back! I'm so glad we got to meet up too!
Zeal: Probably my Canadian brother... Exactly like me..
SethK and Hwood: Young ones, I hope I don't let you guys down. :(
Katushkin: American in Britain
Azhdar: Azerty

All my friends have helped me a lot, and it would be hard to choose just one story, but everyone is close to me like my keyboard clicking family, I have become a small fish in a big pond to a small fish in a family.

In my first post to "New Members", I talked about just finishing the Planck PCB and asked if anyone wanted some PCB design work done, because I love doing it. jdcarpe got in touch and we've been collaborating on some things.

Fast forward a few months and I've just finished soldering all the SMD parts on the JD45 and JD40 V2 prototype PCBs and shipping them out to Bunny, mkawa and JD.

That's what I like about GH... people collaborating and combining their efforts to make stuff happen.

I only joined over a year ago and mostly scan everyone's input. I normally research the wholly bejesus out of anything I am going to buy and this site was the best source for looking for my next keyboard.
I finally bought a HHKB Pro2 after 4 months of reading about every post i could find about it. I use it at work because the wife just couldn't get used to it. I love the functionality of the board and the feel.

My next board will be one I build and I am researching here to figure out which one to build. It will be either TKL or full 108. Most probably a 108 (wife likes the number pad).

The biggest help here for me has been BunnyLake. I had an issue with my order and he resolved the problem without issue. Now I cannot wait for the new CtrlAlt store to open.

I am sure as I actually begin to build my board this will be the place to get parts and help. Thank you all for contributing to a great site.

The day after the cosmic sale, someone was trying to sell what he won, a couple of us posted very quickly and waited while chatting with each other. It looked like he messed up and won more than he could afford so we wanted to help ;) Turns out guy is trying to male some quick cash and lies about reason for selling and decided he wanted crazy profit so he went for an auction. This all happened around 6AM and we were upset about not getting the chance to get the caps. Thing is while all this went down, me and one other user spent more than a couple hours talking and said we would try and get what we wanted. He offered to grab the bro I wanted if he got the chance and I said I'd keep him in mind if I got the chance to get what he wanted. Both of us also spend time helping other keyboard enthusiasts when we can. I just started posting here and hope to help more people here and interact with all my fellow nutjobs(who else spends hundreds and thousands of dollars on keyboards and little bits of cool looking plastic  :)).)
Tldr, I made a friend from a bad situation which is really why I got on to here and the Mk subreddit in the first place. This all happened on r/mk btw. My new friend is /u/rjmana

Back when we didn't know much about Gaterons keycaps infiniti got a few sets off TaoBao I assume, and to find out more information like the thickness, color comparisons to other manufacturers, spacebar compatibility ect he gave away keys from the sets to people to test for those things. He gave a few keys (and some bonus candies) to me of the various colors to test their thickness and smoothness, paying for their shipping to me.

This was very generous to send caps around the world and splitting up parts his sets to the community for testing so we can gain more information.

I've actually had a number of positive experiences here and r/mk!

When I bought an aluminum case from 64rky and it came with a chip in the corner (occurred during shipping) he refunded me a little cash to make up for it.

Skiwithpete is super awesome and helpful to work with.  Have some custom sleeves coming in soon and him and Steph were really helpful.  They sent me free color swatches so I could compare them to find the right colors for my sleeves and designed them exactly how I wanted.

Krytone is super cool!  When he realized the cap he thought I won was actually won by two people he gave me a different cap to replace it instead of one of us getting screwed :)

Rjmana on reddit is an awesome person.  We started talking about keyboards out of nowhere in PM's and ended up talking all sorts of things like life, other hobbies, etc.  Once and awhile we still talk in PMS about things happening on mechmarket/mechanicalkeyboards subbreddits.  Also he posts my name in any mechmarket post that has the Green Tea keyset in it because he knows how much I want that keyset.  He's a good guy!

These are just a few examples! In general whenever I sell things on mechmarket I always take a slight hit.  I find it important to not rip people off and will also try to give some advice when I can.  Have only been in this scene for five or six months but have enjoyed it for the most part thus far. :) Glad to see this giveaway because recently a lot of people seem to have forgotten how lucky we are to have the cap makers we have in this community and have taken people like Bro for granted.

The first thing that comes to mind was when I stumbled on a post by Katushkin who mentioned wanting to swap the blacks in his Keycool to tactile greys.  After confirming that "Britbong" wasn't far from here I offered to do it for him and the board was in the post a couple of days later and back with him in under a week, and he hated the blacks so much he let me keep them.

Another thing that was great was my first Bro e-mail sale.  Having messed up my first e-mail sale (for KWKs - I forgot to include my paypal :-[) I posted that I had everything ready an hour early and was clock watching so as not to miss it.  When the time came I pressed send only to be reminded that I needed a "to" address...  After a lot of swearing at my incompetence I found the address and sent it anyway, a whole 20 seconds late.  To my surprise I got a Nuclear Kush Stump!  I never confirmed it, but I'm sure Bro sent it out of pity and I was quietly grateful (there was too much salt about to be outwardly so)

Beautiful as the Stump was though I had underestimated how bright it was, so I put it up for trade.  Sed8op8 loves Stumps and was looking for a Kush to partner her V2 so we agreed a trade for an orange Lion Keyng and she threw in a slightly less orange keythulu.  She was happy with this trade but it seemed a little one sided so I surprised her by including an Orc Trooper which she had commented on in the package.

I also enjoy helping people when their keyboard matrix breaks - RoastPotatoes' Gon was particularly memorable as that thing looked like it had been through a war, but it works!

Another thing that makes me feel good is helping people in Krytone's sales thread when he's asleep at inconvenient times, and in metaliqaz's EasyAVR thread where the same questions keep coming up.  The OPs have done enough, it's good to field some of the easy questions for them.

Having already experienced Bros generosity this year I don't expect to win but Halloween is soon(ish) and dibs for that would be amazing - an orange V3? I can dream :D

For me interaction with GH community is one of mixed feelings, sometimes I feel ignored while other times I feel welcome and part of it.
While GH was down I missed it a lot, even if I don't post much I like browsing the threads and looking at the amazing photos the users post.
One of my first experiences here was running the SA Vim and DSA Vim and Debia GB's hosted on PMK, it was so much fun and the best part was giving away almost all my caps from these GB's to random people who missed out, it was such a nice feeling to give something to a complete stranger without asking for anything in return :)
I also got some love back, Madhias passed over his BB after he found out that the one I won in a BroCaps giveaway got lost, it was an amazing gesture from a complete stranger.
On another occasion a user from Australia (Cottonsox) gave me a Poker case and 2 GMK space bars for free, just paid for shipping, that case I'm still using today with my TMK Alps 60.
Here I met SPRiT who became a good friend. We chated a lot in the last year about everything and anything, he is such a cool guy :)
Got to know GON and had the honor of nominating him for DTA2014 , and he even won the award and the rare Wingnut CC trophy.
And how could I forget Hazaa who helped me get my Dolch keyboard, he went to the seller's place to pickup the keyboard and even sent me a couple of Nixie Blacks, what he did was so awesome, that board is one of my favorites.
And the list can go on forever, if you are not here it doesn't mean I forgot what you have done for me :)

After a long time I managed to find a hobby that actually makes me feel good, and it opened my mind to things I have never thought of before. Maybe it had something to do(influenced) also with my decision to move to another country, something that became now a reality, in 2 weeks I'm embarking on a like changing experience for my family and I.

I can't really qualify my best interactions with people on here because there have been a lot of them, and 99% of them positive.

Beartung got me my first gasmask v1. (whose hat brim broke, still the best, green with red eyes)
Pwnnarwhal got me my first bro. (steel bbv2 <3 that I still have)
ImpendingxDoom got me my first clack. What a great guy to deal with, and I wanna see more of your keycaps. (candy corn that eventually landed with alienman82)

Shoutouts to:
btctopre for being awesome
ghostjuggernaut for all the trades - dude is really nice
MythicalWagyu for being super cool guy
CPTBadAss for writing neater cursive than me
admiralvorian for the trades
3love and synjin for the $$$
hasu for helping me modify my HHKB's firmware and making me learn about integrated bluetooth modules haha
cottonsox for being dope
Bunnylake for helping bro out in time of need, I thought that was really nice, and it's really a testament to some of the characters that make this community
alienman82 for his persistence lol
Reptile for being a douchebag
naasfu for overall coolness
Soarer for helping me with his converter
and all the other great people on here that make script kiddies wanna ddos this place.

I think the best story I have is making friends with SPRiT. When I first enquired about his custom keyboards, he flooded me with pictures, explanations, and friendliness. We've talked a lot over the past year and we would be our mutual proxies in our countries. He went above and beyond. Also Korean cigarettes are pretty bomb. Oh and you can blame him for this poor Adler's destruction http://imgur.com/a/ubuCv (http://imgur.com/a/ubuCv). He said, "MI BRO (I think he calls me that because I'm from Michigan), I want the keycaps, you can keep the rest" - so naturally I extracted the key components in there lol, all the servos and this awesome piano wire string which can totally be used to go Splinter Cell on someone!

The generosity I've received from GeekHack is insane, I've been blessed with everyone's generosity here since I got here but one of my most memorable would have to be Bunnylake's crazy advent giveaway.
I had been one of the crazy lucky winners and I was thrilled because this is where I had won my first ever BBV2, it was green (I believe toxic) which was exactly the theme I was aiming for to add to my excitement.
So a couple weeks go by and everyone started getting their packages and I was getting really worried that my package might have gotten lost.
Then the next day or so Bunny contacted me letting me know that the package had bounced back from customs and so he had to send it back, I was really happy to hear that the package wasn't lost but I was sad that Bunny would have to pay shipping again which I offered to pay but that bastard didn't let me =P
So a couple weeks go by and I get a PM from Bunny saying that the package yet again bounced back from customs and asked me if it was okay to switch out some of the items with something else because they were causing the package to bounce (it ended up being the shotty cap, maybe lube too?) I said something like, "of course! You're giving me free stuff and asking my permission? You're crazy!" lol. Anyways, this time I really tried to pay for shipping because it would be the 3rd time be would be paying for this and that didn't sit well with me but again Bunny was a butthead and didn't let me pay even though he paid for tracking this time so that we could keep a closer eye on the package through its journey.
I finally received my package a couple weeks later (couple months after the advent event) and I was so happy to have my first green BBV2 (I had gotten lucky with a dib ticket in between this time and managed to pick up a Pharoah BBV2, Yay!)

I'll definitely never forget bunnylake's generosity and love, I wish I had more money to buy everything and donate tons to [CTRL]ALT =P

This was on deskthority, hope it counts.

Kindest thing for me was during a keycap giveaway by Ducky Nordic, I was one of the winners and when I received the cap it had unfortunately been scratched during shipping.
I was really bummed but thought I could deal with it anyway.

I posted pictures to show it off and Ducky Nordic saw it and decided to send me a new one, did not expect that at all! On top of that, when I received the new cap there was an MX Blue keychain included

I am ever grateful to this day for that

Anyways, u/GenKan on r/mk was hosting a giveaway for a Ducky keychain and I always wanted to have one of those. All you had to do was to give one reason why you deserve it. I simply said that I don't own any fancy stuffs and that I'm still new to all of this, all I had was a CM rapid-i keyboard. He picked me and even sent me some (surprise) extras to help me out.<3

Thanks man :)

My moment would have to be with u/0rangeNinja who won one of my first giveaways and later started messing around with acrylic plastic, making some pretty sweet key chains. I asked him about the limitations of what he could make, after a few days of PM's it turned out he could make exactly what I wanted (a display case)!

Took some time, made some samples and within a month of two I had my display case. Later I helped him reach out here, made a review and posted a ton of pictures since he dont have a very good camera (phone camera's please).

Overall best interaction with the community!

I've only been in the keyboard community for a few months, and on GH for even less, but for sure my most positive experience has to be with kcamrn over on reddit.

I only had one board, a Filco MJ2 TKL Ninja with stock caps and all and I was browsing r/mk and I started reading about Topre switches. I had no idea what they were, but I quickly started researching to learn more about it. Everything that I could find about it sounded like exactly I wanted out of a switch, so I send kcamrn a message after reading his review of the HHKB to find out any more information that he could provide.

Luckily for me, he was finishing up his writing of a comparison review between the regular and Type-S HHKB's. He sent that to me along with some more of his thoughts and opinions based on what I had asked - mainly on whether I should go for the HHKB, or just try out the 60% form factor with something more affordable like the Poker II.

He also mentioned that he was looking to sell the regular HHKB, and that he would be happy to sell it to me (along with the red & blue control/escape kit) for less than he was initially looking for it just because he wanted to help me out. I was really surprised that he did this, particularly because I really have no established presence or influence in it - and I was also so fortunate to have caught him at the right time just before he posted it on mechmarket.

Probably not as exciting as some other stories, but it's what made me really stick to this community after just finding a board that I liked. Definitely something that I'm going to remember.

Thanks to bro for running this giveaway, and good luck everyone  :D

I wanted to participate in this giveaway and have been thinking about all those positive moments that I have experienced in Geekhack. But then, I read about all these entries about how awesome everyone is and I feel that they do deserve this giveaway more than me. And it's exactly why GH is such a great place to be. Cool and totally selfless people are very common in this community and who would have thought that the love of keyboards are made up of stellar individuals. All of you are why I felt anguished and lost when GH was offline for a week. DT or r/mk was not the same at all!

Now, to give my offerings to the RNG Gods for the sale later :D

For what it's worth, I don't remember what you're apologizing for and remember you being a pretty chill and cool dude on here, so obviously there's no hard feelings for whatever happened in the past.  TL;DR, water under a bridge.

Haha this came out of the blue, had to reminisce over all the GH times, it was one of my biggest regrets and shames.  :'( i just don't want to be hated by anyone.

I've only been around GH for a few months and while I'm moderately active here so far I haven't engaged anyone personally yet. However, every interaction I've had here has been a positive one. It feels really good to be part of a community where no one is an ******* to you for being new and/or ignorant. That is something that's really hard to find on the internet. It can be kinda intimidating for someone like me to just start talking to people I don't know, but the users here make it easy. I couldn't ask for a better place to feel so accepted by a group of people who share similar interests.

Almost all my interactions on geekhack have been positive, it's definitely why I ended up staying :) I will just highlight a few very memorable ones.

1. I received a package from an artisan's sale on GH to find not only the cap I was expecting but a hand written note and an fn in my favourite colorway! You know who you are ;)

2. Just a few members who I need to mention:Bunny, Dustin & SpamRay all my interactions with these guys have been so good, the kind of help and generosity you don't expect to get from someone you have never met. Thanks  :thumb: :thumb:  My most recent package from Bunny unexpectedly contained this really nice leather CtrlAlt keyring.

My first interaction here was back in February this year, where my first post was in a dental band modded HHKB tour for Australia, run by Jersen. I had been interested in the HHKB and topre switches for a while, but making a $300 aud leap of faith for the board was pretty much out of the question, so with my first post ever I asked if I could join the tour, stating that I would obviously understand if he didn't want to trust someone so new to have the board for an entire week. But he had no problems with it, and even let me have the board for the first leg of the tour.

Fast forward a few months, and I'm typing on my very own beloved dental band modded HHKB that I picked up recently in Tokyo. I know I wouldn't have desired it as much as I did if it wasn't for Jersen :thumb:

Long time lurker, registered recently, first post :)

A while back Brostafarian from reddit posted in /r/mk about a help key for his parents, and he recently delivered! He got so much attention and people wanting to buy that he set up a mini GB of maximum 20 people. Well in the order form he had a box for additional comments, so I went ahead and said I'm buying it to mod it to make it a 2 key controller for agario - and he said he'd make one for me instead! It's coming soon :)

So yeah, /u/Brostafarian is awesome. Best memory so far - but this community is awesome. Fun, informative, amazing, accepting of new users, always people striving to help. Keep it up guys  ;D :thumb:

Preface: I am rather new to the keyboard scene and I spend most of my time on /r/mk so my interactions are limited, but I have made some observations about the community as a whole.

First I'm going to start with my personal interactions:

TourneyCollector: I made a post on /r/mechmarket looking for Topre Artisan keycaps to buy and TourneyCollector messaged me offering to make some custom ones for me. After some back and forth on what I wanted him to make and figuring out the pricing, I payed him and he went to work. Throughout the process of him making the caps he messaged me updates, making sure they were what I wanted. Unfortunately his equipment broke/malfunctioned during the building process, and instead of not telling me about the problem and making me wait forever to get it fixed, he offered me an free cap or a refund. I went with the refund and he paid me back in full without any other questions or troubles.

Mookzs: I contacted Mookzs about one of his threads on mechmarket where he was selling 77 lubed, vintage black switches. After a bit of negotiation I bought them off him and he even threw in half a sheet of switch stickers. About a day later he contacted me saying that he has miscounted and he only had 75 switches, so he refunded me $0.91. I was very impressed with the fact that he would even bring his small error up and then go as far to refund me such a small amount, a lesser man wouldn't of said anything and I probably would have never noticed.

Brocaps: Although I am 0/4 in Brocaps sales and I haven't purchased any of his caps/products aftermarket I am still very impressed with the work he is doing. He hold all his caps to a very high standard and tries to make sure everybody who wants his caps can get them, while still maintaining the level of craftsmanship people have come to expect from him. I think the thing about him I'm most impressed with is that if somebody mentions in a thread somewhere how they're 0/9 or something like that he will get in touch with them and try to help them get some caps, and how sometimes he'll give people who haven't won anything double priority in his sales. I think Bro's whole system and style of business is something the other cap makers and keyboard craftsmen should work towards.

Now for the overall community: I am simply blown away by how nice and accepting this community is. When I first entered the keyboard game I had a bunch of silly, stupid questions I could have easily found in wikis or past posts, but for some reasons when ever I had a question I would start a new thread. Instead of everyone getting mad at me, or the mods yelling at me people would be nice and help me and point me in the direction of resources I could that could also help me. You guys are all the time helping each other out and really working towards strengthening the niche as a whole, and although there is some drama here and there everybody gets along.

What can be said that hasn't already been so eloquently stated? I started my journey into keyboard enthusiasm about 1 year ago today. I always had my eye on after market and artisan keycaps (even though I do not own any artisan caps yet) and when Massdrop started selling keycaps I couldn't help myself but start my collection. But I had a lot of questions... PBT, ABS, POM? Doubleshot, Dyesub? What's the best? How do I know what I'll like? I don't remember his / her username but I was referred to GeekHack through the comments on Massdrop. That was the best recommendation anyone could have ever given me. The hours upon hours of reviews, tutorials, and Q&A's guided my purchases perfectly. I can happily say I've never purchased a keyboard or keycap set I wasn't completely satisfied with. That's impressive considering the thousands of options out there. So thank you random Massdrop / GeekHack patron... you introduced me to the best damn community on the internet.

But there's so many other positive examples of how this forum has helped others and why I continue to be impressed with its community:

1) When someone misses out on a group buy and another member purchased enough sets to sell one at cost to help out people who missed out. Who does that!? Shout out to Synjin for selling me his extra Hack'd by Geeks set. :)

2) A community driven Novatouch tour. Awesome stuff! Despite all the logistical issues that can happen here... the ball kept rolling for quite a while!  Each person was trusted with the keyboard and it went from person to person without flaw. So much trust. Thanks Captain and Mkawa and the guys at Cooler Master.

3) A bunch of great vendors who really go the extra mile. ZealPC for his quick turn around, Mechanicalkeyboards.com for listening to their customers and stocking some awesome keyboards and parts. Some of the quickest ordering I've ever seen. Almost as fast as my prime membership and it's free shipping!

I could go on but I think you get it.

I also just want to say thank you Bro for being generous enough to do a giveaway and missed out sale. I'm sure whoever is the lucky recipient will cherish your artwork. I know I would :)

Peace (and no salt)

So I really have only started getting into this hobby this past year when I built my new computer and I can't believe how nice and supportive everyones been(i mostly post on reddit r/mechanicalkeyboards from u/jiraffinator). I have tried to explain this over and over again to family and friends, and they all don't understand my fascination with keyboards and your awesome keycaps. I've literally been talking to my gf about putting one of your keys as my escape key on my hhkb for hours on end. Nonetheless,  I still feel the need to share with everyone in my life when you're having your sales on ctrlalt, usually just parading in the house counting down the minutes till they're over ;).

Anyways, something that stuck out, I purchased a ducky keycap set from u/64rky, and practically got it next day which was pretty awesome and wasn't expecting it.

Lastly, bro, don't listen to all the haters, i noticed there were some posts with people getting angry or whatnot. I can understand you're just one person. People really gotta go into these sales with the thought you won't win, so that if you win, you'll be super excited. Even though I haven't won, I still have hope. Anyways, keep up the awesome work, and I can't wait to see what new caps you release.

Lastly lastly ;), I'm not sure how you create your caps but I was thinking of getting into trying to make my own, since my dad has an injection molding machine sitting in his garage. Would love to hear how you make your caps.

On Reddit (Same name here) I recently saw XX7 starting up his 3d printed caps and figured I'd procure a cap for my board. Upon delivery Canada Customs or (US IDK) managed to push the keycap through a double layered envelope and stole it. Luckily XX7 was nice enough to send another but I swung him some ideas that I've seen other Artisans use, Cardboard, Plastic Bags, that sort of thing. He found one of the best ways to ship it in some sort of mints container. It arrived perfectly the next week. I figured why stop there? I shot him some sketches for -Hopefully- future sales. (A Homing Dish Coffee Mug Series, Holiday Cap Series, that sort of thing.) I didnt want anything other than to give him some ideas for sales to help him buy his own resin equipment and one day I hope he does acquire the equipment he needs because I'm sure they will be fantastic!  :thumb:

By far my most heartwarming interaction was with dustinhxc. I was entirely new to artisan caps and still am, the only ones that ever caught my eye were KBK conspires.

I was basically crying to myself in a KBK thread about the low likelihood of ever getting one and he straight up offered to sell me one of the ones i wanted most.

It felt really good and i suddenly "got" the spirit of passing on these caps to people who will appreciate them. Its made me realize that the people who are spending their time here are very genuine, and its not just about money, and that's so rare on the internet.

very cool

I had a member here that wishes to remain anonymous that basically paid for the operation of a broken leg on a dog that was rescued and then fostered by me.  I was (always am) dead broke so it was a huge relief because I'd already sold $1000 worth of Playstation gear, computer parts, TVs, random etc... and I was still coming up short.

I always think it's amazing when people do things for people they don't actually know.  It is one thing to do something for someone in your family, but for someone that you don't know, it takes a special kind of person.  I've found that GH seems to be comprised of a large portion of very honest members.

I still love the fact that I can do transactions using "friends and family" option and screwing PayPal out of the deal.  It's all in the little things sometimes.

Anyway, happy 4th of July.  https://instagram.com/p/4uFIh_JXuc/?taken-by=happyhoundsmi

After lots of lurking, sometime last year I decided on the first keycap set that I really wanted but of course it was one where the ordering period was long gone. Luckily I found out from the GB thread that taylordcraig was looking to sell his and we arranged the transfer of the order. Afterwards he was nice enough to keep chatting a bit and  answered the  multitude questions regarding this hobby that I had. It was one of my if not the first interaction with someone from the GH community and left me with a very warm impression.

I've always been struck by how friendly the community in general is alongside the enthusiasm for something many would consider frivolous. One of the greatest interactions I ever saw was a giveaway thread on reddit. A guy won a custom keycap or possibly a case, and said something along the lines of "now all I need is a keyboard!" So the person running the giveaway (intelli78?) gave him a free keyboard as well. I know it's vague, and unfortunately I can't find the interaction, but it really struck me as a perfect example of how great this community can be.

So I've been on GeekHack for about two years now. While I work in IT, the world of mechanical keyboards is much different and has still taken a while to learn everything about the hobby and whatnot.

One of my very first interactions on the site was posting my haul from a couple SP crap bags I got. Was lucky enough to get a couple in the sale a couple years back. Didn't know all the keycap types, profiles, etc at the time. Mostly was just interested in the novelties to build a cool unicorn vomit set (which I have in fact). Posted some pictures of the stuff from the crap bags seeing if I could sell/trade anything.

One user that I completed my very first trade / real interaction with was "hwood34". Forget the exact cap that it was, but recall it was of the SA variety. I got a running man novelty in return. While it may not be a huge moment for anyone else, it was a very welcoming experience upon first entering the community. Honestly didn't even know what SA was at the time. Felt very welcomed with all the interactions I had since then, so glad I found out about GeekHack. Still learning more everyday, fun hobby indeed  ;D

My story ain't super amazing or anything. But it's a mixture of people being awesome and helpful.
When I first tried to to start a classified thread I had some troubles with the thread not being visible. Both user 18 and the hoff (admins) provided the best help tech wise I have ever had from a forum. Being it that people work for free to keep this site going the level of help was amazing and friendly and made me glad that there are good people out their.

I've got a couple great things from this year:

1)My first IRL meetup with fellow enthusiasts!

Geez, telling your friends that you are going to meet some people to, erm, what exactly... play with each others keyboards? "No, not the musical kind. Yes, the one you type on... Well, there are many different types.... Yeah, nevermind." It's easy to forget that we have a pretty niche interest.

There was a thread  (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=53593.0)for a Montreal meetup and swill finalised the plans by securing his workplace to host the event. There was a pretty good turn out but HOLY MOLY there were a lot of boards, a frightening number owned by the awesome dorkvader (https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7658/17093843481_ecdbe3654a_o.jpg) (and he didn't even bring his whole collection). Snacks, drinks, beers and pizzas where all paid for by generous members of the group. I was there for about 5 hours(?) but swill and some people where there pretty much all day.

So, what DO you actually do at a meetup? Of course you bring as much of your own gear as possible whether it be a stock QFR or some crazy beamspring board. Mill about testing out the different switches and discussing what you like and don't like about the boards. Step it up and do some speed runs with different swtiches and let the pros take some sweet pics of all the boards. Have a few beers and realise that most of us are some kind of engineer and shoo the sh*t about that. Crack out the modding gear and get a run through about how lube up switches and solder things like a boss (merci, swill). Figure out who is the craziest by listing of what group buys people are waiting for (quite a few GH60's and Sprit boards being waited on). Figure out that Torpe is life. Finally all agree that a Lighsaver is the recommended board for self defence. Generally just hang out with awesome people and have a great day  ;D

I posted the full album (https://imgur.com/a/bQsVb)(credits to random rockets) over at reddit and a few more people in the nearby area identified themselves, so hopefully the next meet can have some more new faces and even more equipment to geek out over!

IRL GeehHackers (I = baldy beardy):

2) I had my first ever trade on Geekhack thanks to Sed8op8!

She went out of her way to trade me the Kushy Purp Escape key I wanted so badly to complete the set for my HHKB! Why did she do that? Pretty much just to see my set get completed! I had previously been burned in my first interaction with the classifieds (due to a super shady user) on Geekhack and I was weary to post a thread for trades. Sed8 is a user with nothing but positive feedback so I was happy to work out my first trade after exchanging a few PMs. Now, I've had a bunch more keycap trades and have had tons of interesting chats with members of the forum.

Yeah, it's true that it could be very easy for people to scam you, but by putting a bit of trust into the community we stand to gain so much more! I want to truly thank Sed8 for helping me get more involved with this side of the forum. I encourage the rest of you to think about trading some of your unused or lesser used gear for something new and exciting to you. Don't deny yourself that pleasure of an epic post day where you get a mountain of keyboard gear to tear open!

I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but these are two moments that have stuck with me.

1)  Was able to get a Krytone keycap ~30 minutes or so after the sale.  Remember it went live during PT formation and was bummed I was going to miss it..  What stuck out the most was that he replied very quickly and seemed to just be happy that I was interested in his caps (was his 2nd sale IIRC).  Ended up getting a freebie cap in addition to a brainy skull keycap.

2)  Somehow managed to get a Nub's heart cap (clear dark blue).  Reason that stuck out to me was that I just got done with a FTX and hopped onto GH. I must have logged in right at the perfect time to get one. Also got a freebie. A grey/black dolly w/ red eyes and nose.  Favorite colors.

Thanks for hosting the giveaway, Bro.

If for some reason I manage to win one, I hope it doesn't require having to reply back as I'll be on orders from 6JULY-5AUG (no phone or internet in the foreseeable future).

Well for me most memorable interactions are with photekq who helped me a lot in identifying keyboards! Got a monterey blue keyboard comminga and thanks to him I am very excited to recieve it! Also Ivan and Sprit for trying to help me in acquiring a spacebar stab for my board, i managed to make one by miself but in the mean time Ivan offered me one and sprit also tried to get one for me :) So the though counts a lot at least! I was a pretty big noob when i got into mechanical keyboards, but thanks to people like them i know a ton now and I manage to learn something new almost every day, and I am very proud to have made my own keyboard thanks to all the amazing guides posted here at geekhack! Thank you all :D

Ok guys I have gotten 3 hours of sleep and feel a little more coherent !

I really love stuff like this as you get to see a little behind the curtains of other people's experiences. I have had overwhelming support since I have gotten here and met so many great people! Young, old, male, female, cops,Mexicans  :p, people from all walks of life. I guess one of the things that really impresses and inspires me is the vast well of communal knowledge here ! I have met some pretty intelligent people here some down right scary haha (as always every populations has its baddies but at least in this instance they have been the minority here ) I don't want to do anyone a disservice of forgetting to mention you but if I do please know that its not personal and I have got love for ya 8)

So I'm going to make a quick list and finish it with a wonderful experience I had recently thanks to Nubbz and my summer Santa this year (thanks again Nubbz such an amazing event) .

Here we go

Trizkut,Badwrench, ghostjuggernaut, strict,PunksDead,Bro,aznair, impending doom,Hoffman myster,hwood,dustinhxc,Binge,SuicidalOrange,CottonSox,Byker,64rky,free copy,Beehatch, argcargv,Demik ,vespersaint, naasfu, synjin,Belfong,mr.chunky, bunnylake, imdabaron, joeyquinn, glissant,Jdcapre,Nathan Ross powell,Nai_Calus and Proximity and the list goes on. I have had positive interactions with the people on this list in one way or the other . In most cases multiple positive interactions 8) thanks every one for making this forum my home 8) you guys and gals are the best !

Edit: CaptnBadass I feel so horrible I haven't sent your book out you are so giving of yourself but rest assured I will make it worth your while not to mention the books a damn good read  :p

So this year I got Booper as my Secret Santa. It was my first year participating in this so I had no clue what to expect and I was pretty blown away when my package showed up. I'm going to link from the summer Santa page. I don't even know what I wrote in my likes and interests but this girlie had me pegged
It was super emotional for me and 2 chains now adorns the wall of my office benevolently looking down at my desk. Thanks Booper I will never forget this  :thumb:

My secret Santa went above and beyond! Everything was so purrrfect ! From capturing the essence of 2 chains figuratively and literally in a super original paint and stencil masterpiece to an amazing pink cable in which the USB housings were actually cast by her royal Boopness. 7 amazing Booper originals(these are flawless folks amazing texture no bubbles rich color freaking flawless I have a new favorite artisan ) and the rare brown Bro stumpy <3    <3  Stump LYFE and last but not least a super cute owl necklace (I already got compliments on) and some bracelets.

What about when you threw up in my bathroom? Wtf, I thought we were bros

So I am relatively new to this mechanical keyboard hobby (Bought my first one this past February). But not soon after I started browsing r/mk and geekhack I discovered artisans. I first fell in love with HKP gasmasks. I still vividly remember the thrill of acquiring my first one via GRSimon's ebay auction  ;D
Anyway, fast forward a month or so and my collection of gasmasks had expanded to... 2  :( Turns out acquiring artisans aftermarket was harder than I thought. That's when 64rky posted his massive 23 gasmask collection for sale on mechmarket for $550! I was instantly conflicted. I LOVE gasmasks... but that seemed like WAY too big of a commitment for a college student. However, I saw that other people like Imdabaron and hjc1710 were also interested in buying these keycaps separately. Also, one of my close friends promised to split the costs with me in exchange for a couple caps, kinda like an insurance policy. So I took a leap of faith and bought the whole collection!
Though I was afraid I might end up taking a massive loss, the mech community really pulled through. I managed to sell all the gasmasks that didn't fit my color schemes and all in all it ended up being TOTALLY worth it! I made a very respectable chunk of that $550 back and I got to set up my own little secondhand gasmask emporium for a couple weeks  :p
Anyway, that's my story and I owe it all to the mech community! Thanks for reading and thanks Bro for the giveaway!  :thumb:

Getting to know the community at Geekhack has been very humbling.. so many awesome people call Geekhack home, it is hard to pick out just one person!  I think I would have to say Nubbinator has been one of the most stand out guys I've personally dealt with.  He has done everything from generously hooking me up with keycaps, donating to me when I was selling a blue alps board to cover some unexpected medical bills, to just listening to me vent in PMs once or twice.  I can't think of any time he hasn't been a stand up guy.

I remember who got me into this crazy artisan game. It was hjc1710. He is a hell of a guy, always so helpful and and just all around very very friendly. Story goes I bought some fallout caps he had extras of, and at this time I didnt have any artisans, so after I pay him for the caps and whatnot I ask him, "hey man you selling any artisans by chance?". He responds back "no sorry, I just have my collection, not selling any atm". So I thank him and wait for the mailman to bring my package. Fast forward a few days an my package arrives, and I tear that thing open and to my surprise I find a beautiful yellow warmaster and a binge sticker. My jaw dropped, I could not believe it. Now remember this is when I first started getting into the whole keyboard, caps and artisan thing. I read the note and he says he has given me these because the community is so great to him and he feels the need to give back to a new user. To this day I still have that cap and I always will, even if im not into keyboards any longer. Its the thought that there are good people in this world and that means a lot. Hjc if you are reading this (and I know you will) thank you again for getting me into this wild journey!

Gosh, these are all such nice stories, I kinda wish I spent less time lurking and more time posting now. :'(

July 8th will be my 1st GeekHack birthday! Because I haven't really interacted with anyone much, instead I'll post a few things I've learned in my one year lurking GH:

1. demik is one of my favorite posters. I love me a thread with lots of demik in it. :D

2. Hoff is a really nice person!

3. THERE ARE SO MANY GIVEAWAYS! Lots of really generous people here

4. Beards

5. (http://i.imgur.com/oCGmtXq.gif)

6. When the chips are down, many users are willing to do their part and make things right. Whether it's a deal gone wrong or a personal issue, there's always someone there to offer their help.

7. Everyone and their mother has a DSLR setup

8. Ya'll have cool keyboards

I'm sure there's stuff I missed but that's all I can think of right now. Happy 4th of July!  :thumb:

I don't wanna spam this thread up very much, but you just made me so happy. You are a great guy as well!

Thanks for the great giveaway Bro, it's really cool to read about all the positivity that happens around here; this community is definitely the friendliest I've ever been a part of, and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to meet really great people! I've received tons of help and kindness during my time here, you guys are all great!  ;D

This past Christmas, I posted in the Ctrl Alt advent giveaway when a JD40 kit came up as the days prize. In my post, I mentioned that had I won I would build the kit myself and give the board to my girlfriend as a Christmas present. I didn't win, but a few days later I received a PM from JDCarpe, who offered to build a JD40 and send it to me to give to my girlfriend. Some time passed, and a few weeks before Valentines Day, I received another PM from JD saying a JD40 was on its way to me.

It arrived a few days before Valentines day, and I gave it to Brandi after we went out for dinner. She was ecstatic to say the least, as she had been wanting a mech for her PC gaming. It's a really beautiful board, expertly built by JD with MX reds, and some really awesome sandblasting on the bottom plate! She uses it all the time for WoW, Dishonored, Dragon Age, and her other favourite games. I've been trying to convince her to take a picture of us with the board to post here as a thank you, but she's shy.  :))

JDs generosity was really inspiring, and it was a great example of Christmas spirit, and the general spirit of the community here at GH.

If you read this JD, thanks again from Brandi & Dakota!  ;D

I'd also like to thank Naasfu, and Zeal, for helping me out when I have questions, and helping me find things!

And thanks to Hoff for gifting me my first and only Bingecap! It's a beauty.  :-*

Some other memorable things have been chatting with Naasfu, Sed8op8, Taylordcraig, hanging out on the GH IRC channel, and seeing all of the awesome community giveaways and events.

It was also awesome playing GTA V with the GH crew.

Last but not least, thank you GeekHack! My time here has been wonderful. Who knew keyboards could be the source of so much positivity?  :thumb:

So this might be stupid, but it's one of the things that got me interested in the community.

Once upon a time I posted a thread or comment looking to buy a loose switch or two (I think it was on reddit) and I can't remember why, but I remember I needed it for something. One person said they had a couple and asked me for my address. I offered to pay them, but they refused, even for the postage. A few days later I received about 4 or 5 switches (clears!) in an envelope, sent to me from the other side of the country. Just like that. The person didn't know me, we were likely never going to talk again, but this person went out of their way to grab a few bucks worth of switches, throw it in an envelope, write my name and address on there, and walk/drive over to a mailbox and send it to me.

It sounds really silly, but it was something that made me fall in love with the community. I ended up doing the same, and I've "passed it on" in the form of giving away about $50 worth of stuff to people I don't know, can't remember, and will probably never speak to again. It's an actual hobbyist community in which the overwhelming majority of people are involved in it out of love for the hobby and community, and I love that.

People on this forum go above and beyond. There's such a wealth of knowledge and information, not just concerning keyboards. Just a few things I'll mention, keeping them short and sweet.

Massive respect to Asininity for giving away Steam codes like there's no tomorrow. He asks for nothing in return and that's great. Also CPTBadAss who was kind enough to send me a dozen-or-so assorted keys, back in the days of yonder when I was lurking.

Likewise, kudos to the entire #geekhack IRC for spending the last few days tolerating my ignorance and helping me along with a few things I'm trying to set up for the UK MK'ers amongst us! Particular praise to j`ey and Saimeidae.

I had a good experience dealing with Signature.

I was thinking of selling my silver Hammer case. So, I posted on GH for a price check.

He saw the post and pm'ed me saying he wanted to buy it.

I agreed and we started the process. I wanted to sell it for what I paid for it (cost) but I needed to add shipping.

I never sent anything that big or heavy to Europe. I was double and triple checking the shipping quotes. I didn't want it to get lost considering how far the package would go.

During the process I had a family member who got hurt pretty bad. It made it take a lot longer to get Signature the shipping info.

He kept pm'ing for status updates but I had a hard time squeezing it in. I wanted to make sure I properly took size, weight, and location into account. I kept telling him that I needed more time. I didn't want to overcharge him.

Finally, I was able to get an accurate quote. Even though the process took a little more than two weeks.

He sent the money to my PayPal fast.

It then took me another week or so to get it sent out. I kept sending messages to let him know I didnt forget.

I was helping my relative since it was hard for them to do certain things with his injury.

Signature was very patient through this.

Finally, when I had an opening, I got to finishing the package. I took pictures of the process to let him know I wasent lying or trying to screw him over. I also wanted him to see that the case was being packaged well.

When I shipped it, I sent him a picture of the tracking receipt.

I was nervous that it would not make it there and that he would think I was playing games with him.

It got there a week or so later. He sent me pics showing it with his own poker pcb installed since I ask that he send me them to make sure he didnt get a banged up case in the mail.

Im happy he was patient. He could have been a little more upset considering how long it took. I didnt tell him about the family issue at the time. (Maybe I should have.)

FYI. Signature ended up pm'ing later asking for permission to resell the case to another person. He wanted to sell it for a little more money. I think he was selling it for more just to recoup the shipping costs. He wasent trying to profit necessarily. I thought it was nice of him to ask. Of course, he really didn't need to ask me. I told him that it was his to sell it for whatever he wanted.

I went back and forth for a while about what my most memorable interaction with a fellow Geekhack'er was. Was it a person whom had offered me a great cap at a great price? Was it the person who generously thought of me when given the opportunity to collect another rare piece for their collection? Was it one of the many people who I had interacted with in various trade or info-seeking quests?

I'm not sure, they've all been great! (Shoutouts to Halverson, Bunny, Photekq, and Margo, you all rock and the community is very, very lucky to have people like you in it. And props to Bro for continuing to use his position in the community for good, continually throwing positivity around like it's going out of style, and standing up for what's right)

But there is one person that I think I'd like to highlight specifically. The person with perhaps the lowest sodium levels on Geekhack: Sed8op8. When I was on my search for a particular cap near and dear to my heart, I had a lengthy trade discussion with a member trying to find a mutual agreement. After determining that no agreement was likely to be reached, I messaged Sed8op8 with an inquiry and trade offer for another gorgeous cap. She was interested, but one of the caps being traded was still on its way to me, so we were in limbo for about a week. Right when the cap was about to be delivered to me, I received a message from the user with my personal holy grail, letting me know they'd decided to agree to trade! But unfortunately they had agreed on trading for the cap that I had offered Sed8op8. You can imagine my heartbreak. Do I take the cap I've been looking for for so long, or back out on Sed8op8?

Well I decided to do just that. Against my better judgement, I told her I wouldn't be able to trade after all. I'm not sure if what I did was right, and I still think about it today. I knew Sed8op8 would be pretty frustrated (to make matters worse, I think it was to be her first Clack... eek...) and I braced for the impact of my immoral decision. But instead, I received a low-salt dose of niceness to my dome (which I probably did not deserve). She replied to let me know it wasn't a problem, and that she was happy for me. But I still felt pretty sour about the way things had happened, until I received another nice message from her out of the blue on reddit, restating that it was water under the bridge, and had a nice discussion about collecting and our excitement for the upcoming Cosmos sale.

It's actions like hers that really make me feel great being a part of this community. It's not often on that you meet people on the Internet who are willing to forgive and still be friends these days, but I think Geekhack is and continues to be a bastion for good people to come and talk about keyboards, and I'm proud to be a part of it.

While I can't say I've had a lot of interaction with the community in my short time here, I have gotten a great sense of the camaraderie.  GH members are very quick to help each other out, especially when it comes to a good cause.  I was able to participate in Nubbinator's raffle recently for charity, and the fact that he left it relatively open to where we wanted to donate, I thought that was a great idea.

Other than that, I haven't had any other personal interaction with members other than the Bro himself.  During the last email sale, my package happened to get lost and never arrived.  We exchanged emails back and forth over the period of a few weeks to make sure the package really was lost...Time went by and I forgot about the package, but Bro emailed me to remind me, and was quick to offer solutions to resolve the issue!  Even though it was not the original cap that I wanted, he sent me the beautiful Blood Orange V2, and thus I have my first and only BroCap!  While this was only a minor interaction, I really respect Bro for always keeping me in the loop and making sure that I got the cap that I needed to get.

Thanks Bro for being a human.

My favorite interaction gotta be either :
- our meets with Ngt, we started the keyboard hobby at about the same time, would often meet to show off our new purchase or give the other the opportunity to try out things we hadn't. Damn I'll miss it know that I'm not gonna be so often in your town Ngt :/

- the banter on skype with le squad :
   * clacktalk :  what are u wearing ?
   * billnye : troll on forum but always help, very good friend to have
   * Photekq : one day you'll live in murica
   * meiosis : I envy your collection
   * Hwood : Nicer laziest mofo I had the opportunity to talk to
   * Vesper : Take the Raptor Azerty off the shelf
   * SethK : come back to Europe with daddy Azhdar you'll love it
   * Zeal : baked cake rip lmao

- Every person I traded with or buy to, shoutout to DanielT (man I still feel like I stole you, I owe you one my romanian friend), Epzy the king and the other I'm forgetting atm

- Even if I post less there, I still sometimes go to the Reddit daily questions, and It feels good to help out newcomers not making mistakes by rushing too quick in buying terrible boards.

- The little french squad on Deskthority, I really want to meet them one day.

My best experiences in GH have been in the Making Stuff Together forum. Some of the projects people come up with are fantastic, and it's always thrilling to watch them come together. Seeing people with different areas of expertise come together to produce a final product that is more than the sum of the contributions is fantastic. In the few times I've been able to make a contribution myself, it's been a great feeling to help someone else get something they're passionate about working as best as possible.

Everyone I've dealt with either in classifieds or privately has always been polite, and more than willing to put up with my vanishing for days due to real life stuff. I'll be going to the Matias tour on the 11th, and I'm really excited to get to meet some people and chat about boards.

This has been posted before, but it is definitely my best GH experience:

At Keycon 2015 I bet Binge and we had a great discussion about making keys, sharing opinions and strategies, and learning from our failures. We ended up talking almost all day about some new ideas and our ability to rapidly prototype them. He even gave a small talk about the trial and error he went through and how we should share our information and bring our own unique flare to this niche hobby of ours. At the end of the day I figured I would try to support him as much as I could. I bought a few of his caps and he gave me a few sets of blanks for me to sculpt on/destroy. I was absolutely ecstatic. Then he hands me this:

As I stared at him in disbelief, he said: "You are now in the exciting time of rapid prototyping. This is from when Bro was doing some rapid prototyping. You can see it has some obvious defects, because hey, everyone's got to start somewhere."

I am so glad I can say I am a part of this community.

I'm still a bit new to the keyboard community (didn't really get involved until Feb 2015), but like many have said geekhack is chock full of great members. So far, Binge has been my biggest source of motivation to be positive to all (not just here and r/mk) on the web. I caught wind of Binge's stickers available for sale on his site - the only way I knew to easily get one was to order a keycap from him. So I place an order for a GMK key and 3 stickers. They arrived, and I got this along with my order  :D

Yes, it's a very small gesture, but it meant a lot to me. Immediately hung up on my wall, so it can serve as a reminder whenever I'm online that people do care.

Since I got that letter, I've started writing my own letters to other users, mostly on reddit, since I haven't dealt with too many of you yet. One person I did a trade over on reddit with enjoyed my letter enough he agreed to send me a surprise in the return package...I've been given a hint, but it's too broad for me to narrow anything down. Exciting  :D

Just recently, I lent a hand to the person running RoastPotatoes (http://roastpotatoes.github.io/). He has started making his own artisan keycaps, and expressed interest in making some more, but was still in the very early stages of crafting BS artisans. I told him to PM me, and I shipped out 5 BS caps, along with 2 surprise MX caps free of charge, just because (hope you like Sadster and Windows 95 keys!). I also sent him a letter, why not. Then I got this message...

Never thought I would be actually making someone's day, even better, I didn't think it would make me feel good... :) . I'm sure when he gets his package it'll make his week  :D

This so called "being nice" infection I have caught has even spread to my non-online friends. I helped pick out someone's first mechanical keyboard, and also gave him a key. He really liked the gesture, and I could picture him getting into artisans one day  :)

Maybe one day he will join GH. I hope so, it might mean he won't have to listen to me tell him everything about keyboards, he can just read up here  ;)

And Binge, it's all thanks to that letter! I think the main thing I've realized from Binge's simple gesture is this; positive people make the world a better place - negative people make it suck. The animosity (or as we call it, salt), just isn't needed. Maybe Geekhack can help me become a better person in general?

Here's to getting more involved, and to good vibes :thumb: . We should all be positive influences, it's a little sad that there will always be people complaining. But what can ya do. Give for the act of giving, not for recognition.

Well I had a great interaction with jerue see above :)

And I like to think I helped encourage zorberema_ to buy materials and make their own keycaps. I hope they succeed as I saw some very nice designs.

It's been a nice week.

I think the best part of the forum for me is the Making Stuff Together forum, and while most of my posts might be "Looks great!", I know that reading that from others is a great feeling. I'm looking forward to when I can show others my project, and hopefully get some good feedback  :thumb:

I'm actually more active on IRC than on the forums, and enjoy helping out with the hardware/software side of things.

So, no one moment really sticks out. Just another great community that I'm glad to be a small part of

Particular praise to j`ey and Saimeidae.

During Bunny's christmas event, I donated a Trans Pink v1 bro and it found a new home which was cool!
Bunny also helped me join the recent Gateron GB which was also very cool.

It's nice to know that giving and receiving can happen so mutually in this place.

Keyboards, eh? Got to love 'em...

I am so glad I can say I am a part of this community.
i thought this was amazing the first time I read this ! Reading it the second time still gave me goosebumps of the awesomesauce variety 8) such an amazing interaction I love this ****  :thumb:

I think I have been fairly quiet around here, but I have still run into a number of awesome people.

nubbinator - the guy does so much around here to remind us that we're a community.  From running niche mini-buys, to helping out user projects, to just helping users get their first artisan cap, this guy is awesome.  I haven't had too many interactions with him, but since I've been here, he has done a lot to help out in my opinion.

billnye - first talked to him when our EK clacks were taking weeks to arrive from the west coast.  We bonded over our saltiness and he helped me hunt down an easter v2 set, a dream set of mine!

Bunnylake - this man has an unbelievable amount of patience for all the buys he helps run and all the **** he gets for things outside of his control, yet he's always looking to hook someone up.  While ultimately futile, I had a good time trying to camp out overnight for that vinyl on RSD for ya Bunny!  :))

sed8op8 - seems like one of the most genuine and passionate new members here.  You can really tell she appreciates not only both keyboards and keycaps but also the processes involved in creating them.  good person to chat with, too.  :thumb:

I've also had a number of positive trade and GB transactions.  thank you to everyone in the community for helping to make this happen =]

I haven't had a lot of interaction on either site, but I love that the community is so ready to help anyone with anything.

The best experiences that i've had have actually been irl. One of my residents was in to mechs and frequented r/mk, and that was a great way to start interaction with him and some other members of the hall. A girl that lived in my building was the only person that ever came into my room that knew what that "wierd little old lookin keyboard" on my desk was (HHKB), and apparently shes an avid r/mk'er. I also got to meet a geekhacker (joey quinn i believe, now that ive been here a bit), which was awesome to talk to someone that was really involved in the community.

I love mechs, but how awesome the community is really makes this hobby something special.

On reddit kudos_and_godspeed sold the remainder of the Meowcaps. I didn't get in initially and I was kind of bummed out since I've never won an email sale before and he pm'd me and sent me a secret menu of caps that I could order off of!! So nice of him ^_^

2 weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet a bunch of our GH(meiosis, clacktalk, radio_killah, yicaoyimu, and the amazing leeku) friends before my back surgery.  Was hoping to catch naasfu and a few others, but they were busy.

The trip started out with me picking up meiosis in LA, eating dinner with another new friend for two hours, and then immediately driving 6 hours with someone I had just met to San Jose.  The next day, meiosis and I put on a steak lunch with some nice IPAs, and *****in sauce for our amazing hosts.   We then pick up and meet yicaoyimu at his workplace, and drove immediately to meet up with radio_killah in downtown mountain view.  Got a cool tour from some locals and had some good drinks.

After some delays, we were able to meet with  Leeku for some korean food and learn about his process, commission, got to see some new pcbs coming, and cute pics of his kids.   We then spent the next 2-3 hours hanging out at yicaos place, checking out his CCs, and korean custom boards.  We ended with this awesome pic of all of us  ;D

PC to the CC wiki

And the most epic beater board ever (thanks to khangaroo)

Ended the trip with some bomb ass food, exploring the southbay, heading back to my home in Berkeley, and doing a pop up mural in Oakland with Meiosis.

Was a great week playing with, working on, admiring, and discussing keyboards along with random ****s and giggles.  Not to mention 24 hour banter and giggles on skype + steam + snapchat with so many of you on here.  Look forward to meeting many more of you throughout the years :)

-GH love

Being brand new to mechanical keyboards, specifically artisans, I just acquired my first artisan about 2 weeks ago. I have always been a lurker on geekhack and mainly post on reddit. /u/livingspeedbump on reddit (I'm sure he's on here too) gave me such a warm welcome to mechs and we chatted away on PM about how I got into mechanical keyboards, my favorite board, what type of keysets I like, whats my grail etc. I met him through him selling his artisans WAYYY below face value or even what he got them for. When I asked him why it was so cheap, he simply stated that he wanted to give back to the mechanical keyboard community. He is constantly selling stuff for way below value or doing giveaways, just because!

While not exactly a positive interaction (not that it's negative), this is probably the most memorable interaction I've had.

Around Feb-March I was selling a whole bunch of stuff on /r/mechmarket, I was trying to recoup some of the money I'd spent after getting my first job (I went a little crazy, spent WAY too much). I get a message from someone interested in one of the keycap sets I was selling (I think it was Tai-Hao's Miami) and asks if pick up possible seeing as we're both in Melbourne. Of course that was fine with me, so I asked if he wanted to meet somewhere the following day. At this point It's about 10-11 at night, when he responds "Can I come and pick it up now?" At the time I'd been staying up until about 3-4am each night so I figured, I'm gonna be up for a while anyway, why not. He suggests we meet at the train station closest to my house, I let him know which station and he says he'll be there in 45 minutes to an hour. Got to the train station around 11:30, train isn't going to be here for 10 minutes. So I'm just wandering up and down the train station, keycaps in hand, only got a few weird looks. The train finally came after what felt like an eternity, but I'm still bored so I start making bets on whose coming to buy the caps. There's a surprisingly high amount of people riding the train so close to midnight, but my first guess was an "IT guy" looking fella, nope. Just behind him was a pretty cute girl that i thought might (pls) be the buyer, nope. After a few more guesses a young guy comes up to me and asks if I'm the guy selling the keycaps, I show them to him and he starts to get the money out. It's at this point I realize that this must look like some seedy drug deal or something, so i start looking around to see if anyone is even watching, there's a few people but none of them paying attention to us. He pays me, I give him the caps and head off. Spent the whole time walking home feeling like Jesse from Breaking Bad.

My best experience with a fellow GHer so far was with Sed8op8. She noticed that I was collecting parts for my LSv1 and when I needed a set of clears, she offered me a really good deal to get the project going! She was super nice and great to work with, and it really made me feel good that she noticed the project I was working on and wanted to help.

Thanks Sed8op8!

I firsts started looking at mechanical keyboards over on reddit and knew right away I wanted one but being a broke guy at the time buying one would just have to wait.  After a month of looking at boards on there /u/gianhut posted that he was giving away a Mono Price board.  Was was the lucky one and have been enjoying it ever since then.

Photo from the meetup, /u/keikun17 is the one holding the potato camera  :p

Back when we didn't know much about Gaterons keycaps infiniti got a few sets off TaoBao I assume, and to find out more information like the thickness, color comparisons to other manufacturers, spacebar compatibility ect he gave away keys from the sets to people to test for those things. He gave a few keys (and some bonus candies) to me of the various colors to test their thickness and smoothness, paying for their shipping to me.

This was very generous to send caps around the world and splitting up parts his sets to the community for testing so we can gain more information.

I split up my sets as a commitment to TKL and 60%! And as an excuse to get a dedicated numpad in the future.

I stumbled my way through Reddit and ultimately here and just completely blown away at how passionate and welcoming the community is. From general chit chats, IC and GB how everything is so community based. Anyways I found myself entirely engrossed with key caps and nothing sums it up better then "Gotta Catch them All!"

Special mention, I've never seen such a response as I seen here when Destiny(https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71569.msg1735061#msg1735061 (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71569.msg1735061#msg1735061) ) Thread came up and was blown away by how many onions were cut that day.

just wanted to hop in and say thank you folk that mentioned me for the kind words. as a "tryer outer", i've wound up being involved in probably close to 100 transactions in the past 9 months or so, and have had pleasant experiences in pretty much all of them. i've learned a whole lot throughout that time (in the beginning, i had no idea how to even properly ship things even though i'm closing in on 30), especially how adding little unexpected things to sales/trades can make people just as happy as the item they originally intended on receiving makes them. since i tend to sell most things ultimately at a loss (out of choice), this "added value" for the other person feels like added value for me as well, so it makes me feel like, in the end, i'm not really "losing" in the transaction. kind of a selfish unselfish deed, but better than jacking up prices i suppose :P

anyway, in the same spirit as the above, one of the more memorable experiences i've had was when i made a trade with xowie a few weeks back. i had been trying to acquire a forgotten red clack for a few weeks, and, long story short, xowie at one point had a forgotten red clack and (unbeknownst to me) had dyed a set of modifiers to match it. he quietly included one of these dyed keys (the fn key!) with the item he traded with me, ultimately saving me quite a bit of time/money because i was able to compare the color to my set without needing to continue my hunt for an overpriced clack. it was a small thing, but as that "tryer outer", it meant a lot to me.

In January 15 during the Clackvent event I had temporarily lost my wedding ring at the gym.
I came back to my office and noticed it was missing, went back to the gym, search, came back and tore my office apart, then back to the gym again, then dug through my office again.

During this time I missed a clackvent, which I had been watching all day.

I posted in Clack Therapy to vent about it and six people responded wishing me good luck then Signature responded with a link, he put up a BBv2 up for auction to help me fund a new ring.

I ended up finding the ring on my third trip to search the gym; it had fallen into some channels in the cubby lockers and ended up three spots down and nearly invisible. I let Signature know right away and offered to send him a BBv2 to replace the one on auction. He took down the auction before it was sold, so no harm no foul.

I was very touched at the generosity and just plain "good guy" move by Signature. By far the nicest thing a stranger has done for me (that I know of).  He never let me send him a BBv2 in thank you.

Not a submission since it is already closed for entries though I still would like to share this.

First most memorable moment would be when I won my very first bro cap ever. I was so amazed when I got it in the mail as it was a surprise. I woke up to a White Walker V2

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=67010.0

Second most memorable moment was during keycon standing in front of binge and right beside ImpendingDoom. Binge sama was nice enough to give me this amazingly gorgeous cap free of charge and he also gave me a chance at obtaining some of his wonderful caps during the KeyCon.  This doesn't happen often to me as most people I have met are always selling their caps at high premiums aside for 4 people I've dealt in the past who let me purchase a their cap at either retail or cost.

Just when I think you're as solid as a bro can get, you raise the very definition of brodom to new heights. You're like a brogle, soaring to the farthest reaches of the atbrosphere. Seriously. If it weren't for you and your extreme brobility to hook a bro up when it is most croosh, I'd have been stuck with lame-ass keycaps, some lame-ass typing experience, bro. But you stepped up. You brovercame all obstacles to help a bro out. This is the kind of **** that makes bros for life.

You are the king of all bros. Brotankhamen. You are the Ayatollah Bromeini. You are Broseidon, lord of the brocean.

Post said 1PM PST as the deadline for entries (http://i.imgur.com/Pk5bQjg.png) so i'll just go ahead and post my story. If it's not valid since the time was changed, bummer, but that's fine because I spent the weekend thinking about it and I'd like to share. (Doesnt help writing this took a while since i couldnt remember and had to hunt stuff down, so now i'm probably late anyway  :p )

I've had multiple positive interactions here on GeekHack and on /r/MK.
A lot of smooth trades, positive conversations receiving and giving advice on things someone might need help on, and a lot of smooth purchases and sales.

I only want to mention a few of these events because I feel like every interaction i've had with someone has been positive. So if we've crossed paths, it's been good :)

A simple interaction is when TacticalStache didnt have any cash to pay for a ClickClack, which i believe was from the Clackvent, and i let him borrow some to pay it off. Was a simple thing i could do to help someone out which made me happy as well. I'm sure someone would have helped, but I didnt want to take the chance and have someone miss out on a Clack.

Next would probably be thanking those who have helped me gather up BroBots and ClickClacks for my girlfriend. My girlfriend (sarahnicole here on GH [she isnt active on her own account but asks me to do stuff for her]) is the main reason i'm on GeekHack and have what I have. I quickly converted her to the mechanical keyboard side and to repay her for helping me with this hobby, I wanted to get her any BB or CC she really liked. Just so happens to be the more difficult ones to aquire  ;)
So i've made some transactions with Limitz, Psybin, and Badwrench and have a gotten what she wants. Badwrench has been the most helpful with this because he only really wanted to trade with me in order to help me out. WHO DOES THAT?? I just really appreciate that and I'm happy with all of my trades, not just these.

Last, Id like to mention the first time i remember helping someone.
Infiniti (you're doing great as a mod by the way) needed someone to proxy and order from SP. The only task was to place the order and have it shipped to his Forwarder in Burbank,CA, since they wouldnt accept his foreign PayPal. I grew up and can visit Burbank, so i figured if I couldnt directly get the order shipped to the Forwarder, I could just go and drop it off in person instead of charging Inviniti shipping cost to them. SP accepted the address so all I did was accept the money from Infiniti, place the order, and that's it. Everything went smooth and he received his package in the end.
Shortly after, Infiniti thanked and added me as a friend.
He is still my only friend added on GeekHack, and I always see that and am reminded of the time I helped him.

It wasnt the difficulty of the task, but the ability to help someone in need that made me happy and I truly felt I was in a community :)

With that being said, I gotta go help Sed8op8 with the whole "endgame" thing  ;)

Awesome job, Bro. Thank you so much for this.

Ya'll did so good in here ~ !!!

Good luck to everyone!

The one thing that just top it all off; was when Nubb held a giveaway where you can nominate someone suitable to receive a particulate prize. That’s when I started to become friend with Vesper (where I nominated him and we won 2nd); and we’ve been saying hi from time to time ever since. To start with an admiration over his collection and photos to become an interaction is amazing when you think of it.

jokrik, you are so freaking awesome. You were one of the first people to be so personable to me when providing feedback. You always went out of your way to remember what I had posted before and responded in context, and you were always sincere. I didn't even know you had nominated me for Nubb's giveaway when it happened!!! I only found out when I had already won with you, and you PM'd me about it!!! That will definitely be one of the most memorable experiences on GH for me. My friends that were with me at the time I found out can vouch for it! I always enjoy our occasional PM's to each other. They're like penpal letters <3 Hehe. <3 You.

Second shoutout goes to vesperSAINT. He is great to talk to and was my first good friend on the forum. We play games together and chat about our mutual love of topre, every day.  :-*

You and I talk so much about so many things, all the time, and it never gets boring. Heck, we played games last night and I look forward to playing games together tonight!
4ever, bb <3
My love for Topre < My love for you.
You of all people know that's saying a lot. LOL!

This buddy here offered to gift me a KWK Wrapped BS because I had just recently acquired an SSK!
A kind heart, a nice dood <3
We should talk more often, breh.

VESPERSAINT!<3

Good sir ~ You are always giving me such kind feedback, and you are always so generous to me ~
Your taste in themes is usually much different from me, but at the same time, I'm always drawn to your stuff. So good.
I will keep looking forward to your amazing posts and feedback. You're awesome!

VesperSaint: You broke me out of my shell, one of the first people I talked to when I joined, we talked about anime and kpop, and you helped introduce me to people who had common interests.

Ma bae ~ I still remember like it was yesterday when we first started to PM each other about IU, Girls' Generation, and anime. It's too bad your love for IU has withered away... We clicked immediately and continue to have too much fun with each other. HUE.
Sorry, I rage on you in CS:GO. LOL! I'm going to continue doing so every now an dthen ;)
<3

vespersaint

We've only recently met, but you've always been such a joy to talk to on GH~! It's unfortunate I took a break for over a month just when we started to converse on GH :(
I look foward to your future posts ~

Post said 1PM PST as the deadline for entries (http://i.imgur.com/Pk5bQjg.png (http://i.imgur.com/Pk5bQjg.png)) so i'll just go ahead and post my story.

Badwrench has been the most helpful with this because he only really wanted to trade with me in order to help me out. WHO DOES THAT??

I missed this post somehow.

I can 100% concur with this. I also exchanged for some silent plungers, and I told him about how the Type-S silencing is different from the Realforce silencing. I also ended up doing the non-stabilized keys. Months later, this awesome man PM'd me that that I was indeed correct (he had opened up a Type-S to find out first hand), and then offered to ship me the stabilized silent plungers. Wouldn't even accept the shipping cost. WHAT A SOUL. He could've just settled at knowing the facts, but he went out of his way to remember me, and then offered to send me them free of charge.

I tip my fedora to you, btctopre. Bravo!

Another good experience I've had on GH is even when you mess something up in a trade, people are awesomely understanding HuehHHUEHUEHUhueUHEHUEEUHuhEUUE (I feel terrible about assuming the black sliders for the modifiers of Type-S Realforce boards meant non-silenced, thank you guys for not beating me up for it).

Another time, Akimb0 was really kind and traded me my 45g HHKB domes for his 55g domes. I didn't expect anyone to ever to the trade with me, and he did!  :)

Yep that was me! Glad to see your alps Dox worked out. I remember you being nervous about attempting it. Also I'll have some cool boards and such to show you next year.

Waddup! yeah I was surprised how well it worked out, I was sure I was going to mess something up.

Looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll have a custom done by the time the semester starts.

I'm actually working on one right now. I designed the plate and had it cut at big blue saw. I've almost finished wiring it, and I'm making the case out of wood by hand. Hit some speed bumps with the case though, mostly just finding the right tools, so it'll be a bit before I get it finished. I'll probly throw up a post about it sooner or later.

Basically just wanted to give a big smooch to all the people that listed an interaction with me as their response (and what the heck, make that everyone - cause you're all awesome).  :-*  So many great memories around here, I'll never forget them.  :)

Here's a random picture I dedicate to my hero(drawn in MSpaint with my mouse! rofl):
