Hi there !
« on: Thu, 26 May 2016, 08:17:30 »
Hi GeekHack !

I'm a 21 years old french IT-guy. I discovered this forum after spending some time on Reddit and some french mech boards. I'm joining you because my interest in mechanical keyboards grows stronger  ;D

My stuff :
  • Ducky Zero w/ MX-Brown (ISO-FR)
  • KBT Pure Pro w/ MX-Brown (ISO-FR... kinda)
  • NPKC Rainbow ANSI keyset (got it from a friend for real cheap)

I love my Ducky Zero :-* It offers an awesome value for its price ! It was my first mech and I wanted something simple, sturdy and polyvalent. Well, I got all of that and much more.
I bought the KBT Pure Pro because I wanted a 60% to bring to work. I was used to ISO-FR layout, MX-Browns switches and I liked that it has directly accessible arrows. In the end I don't like it that much because the unusual 1U right shift. I have a hard time typing on it, which drastically lowers my wpm. That's why I'm planning on buying a 60% keyboard with a more "classic" layout like a Pok3r (how original). I think I'll go for MX-Clears. Life is hard for ISO-FR boards users :( Let's get an ANSI Pok3r !

Oh and also. All hail glorious UKKeyCaps for the DSA Royal Navy keyset that might (not) come in ISO-FR !  :D

Edit : I realise I sounded quite passive-agressive on this last statement. Sorry. UKKeyCaps, I'm genuinely thankful for the keyset <3

Welcome to Geekhack!

Most ISO users are left out in the cold with keycap sets, unfortunately.  Things are improving though, but there are so many ISO variants that to include them all in a keyset would increase the price of the set considerably.  And there is not usually enough buyers for each region's specific keycaps to meet MOQ.

Many have turned to ANSI as a way around this - pretty much every set support ANSI :)

But ISO support is improving - and it doesn't hurt to ask in an IC (preferably) or GB thread whether your ISO layout will be supported (preferably with details, as not everyone is familiar with all layouts).

Pok3r is a great keyboard - so many people have one.  I've been tempted a few times, but I have enough keyboards as it is for now.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
