They gave you a brand new $50,000 car as a loaner?

Who did you have to screw?

Many Year past, I purchased a Toyota Corolla T Sport (Second Generation). I was offered such a good price to "seal the deal". On the Day of collecting the car, I noticed vibration on the clutch @ 3000rpm, so I returned it after driving for approximately 3 miles. It took 3 Months of conciliation bar actually going to Court to settled the matter. In the end I had purchased a Car which was not of my own original choice.

To put a long story short, Toyota had manufactured a Model (Corolla T Sport) with a defective clutch plate (inaccurately calibrated tooling) and knowingly tried to recoup some of the cost by pushing it to the public. A few Months later, they took this Model off the market but the unfortunate people who already purchased had to put-up with keeping it.

The next time avaricious Toyota tried to push their defective products to the public, cost the lives of some people in the US of A last Year when large amounts of their cars were recalled.

The point is that Toyota knew there were defects and still tried to sell their defective products, at least TWICE. Can you trust Toyota not to cheat on you ?

It's all relative.

10/15 mpg, 5.4 liter V8, 6,500 lbs, my other car has the same motor and at 7,000 lbs. is a completely functioning city on wheels.

My Prius driving neighbors hate me.

The more metal that surrounds you, the more protected you are. Cheap health insurance. Priorities.

I actually want a smaller truck.  Perhaps a Toyota Tacoma with V6, extended cab, and some sports goodies.  Don't need a monster gas guzzler, but would like to haul some things on occasion...and like the small sports truck look.

I've recently considered an F-150 1/2 ton (used to have one), but the price seems the same, the gas is only about 2 mpg better, and I lose whatever perceived benefits I have with a 3/4 ton. Maybe when I'm actually ready for another car as opposed to looking for a reason for another car...

Once you've owned a truck, since they are so practical, it's almost hard to "step down" to a "regular car".

It's definitely not for everybody.

Could always go El Camino. (Unfortunately, that's the newest Australian-style ute we really got.)

Or get a Subaru Baja. Ugly, but it can haul, and relatively efficient.

The car insurances, cars themselves and gas are all so damn expensive that I've come to enjoy the lovely public transport and my own two-wheeler with one manpower. I know a lot of people complain about the gas prices in your country, but in here the gas is about 1,55€/1 litre and that comes down to about $8/1 gallon. I say **** that.

I'm in California, fuel here is a bit more expensive than the rest of the U.S. (Hawaii and Alaska not included) We are around $3.95-$4.15 in the San Francisco area as I write this.

Fortunately, for the most part, I pass my increase in costs directly to my customers (taxpayers), and for the rest, I pass indirectly to my customers (taxpayers).

Actually, most Miata drivers are elderly straight couples, not gay, if the Buckeye Miata Club is any indication.

(And, if you drive one in anger, you begin to say, "to hell with people thinking this is gay, it's FUN.")

That's from back when BMW was still sleek and classy. Now they're all warped and grooved with pinched tail lights.

Does anybody know why all the cars in the last 5 years have gotten deep slanted grooves and pinched, irregularly shaped lights? It makes me sick. Can't anything be smooth, proportional, and well balanced?

I so agree, the e36 series was and is my favorite. Though i do like most of the earlier bmw's as well.

I really hated to get rid of that car... i just finished doing a ton of work on it; new rad, belts, water pump, replaced the transmission, all new wheel bearings, etc etc...  i had the new transmission for like a month.  i put in a few long weekends and you just dont get that back out of it when you sell it. plus it was fun to drive.

This is the nice ride.  Schwinn Paramount?

Its a 1974-5 Schwinn Sprint with the "short-coupled" frame or Short Wheelbase.

What it did was shorten the wheelbase of the bike a little. This was claimed to make it a more nimble bike for urban riding and better center of gravity for climbing hills.

I just really liked it, its somewhat rare and was only made for two years. Its a full steel frame with horizontal cutouts (good for a fixed gear or single speed).

You can see the bent seat tube in these.

I currently own a 99 civic se. 350KKm.

Looking to buy something new, I love to drive and want something FUN, wife will more or less agree, with the stipulation that it has to have 4 doors (kids are an eventuality).

any recommendations?

sentra se-r spec V and Civic Si are in my range. WRX, Lancer Ralliart and GTI are not (talking new here)

Does this count as 4 doors?

or you could just get a fun car until that happens and then sell it.

Continuing with Mazdas, the 3 is a blast.  Either the 2.5L or the Mazdaspeed would be in your price range (I think).  I'm doing a bunch of mods to mine (I have the 2.5L); when I get some of them finished, I'll post some pics.  I have already completed:

-Subwoofer (10" Bazooka; I'm old, lazy, and don't have the patience anymore for big installs)
-Auto headlights
-Car dock for phone with hidden wiring

Next up:

-USB plug in the A-Pillar for car dock (augmentation of completed mod if it will fit)
-Modified cigarette-lighter charger wired into main fuse box for USB jack in the A-Pillar (the USB for the car dock is currently a 10' cable running, hidden, from a charger in the center console)
-Front and rear sway bars.
-Cold Air Intake.

I do haul things from time to time, so I did want some cargo room.  When I go play in disc golf tourneys, I usually carry a day bag (if it's a 2-day, OT tourney), a cooler and two disc bags, so I wanted to make sure I had enough room for all of that.  Not to say the GTI or Mini don't, but that was a concern.

I traded the Edge for the 3.  The Edge (AWD) is a gas hog and drives like a shipping barge.  The transmission was also a piece of ****.  Texas is big, too, so we drive a LOT, and I was spending about $400/mo. just in gas. With the 3, I only spend about $150/mo. Since I sold my house, I don't need the hauling room anymore, and with gas prices getting so high, I wanted something more fuel efficient and had a manual transmission.
