If anyone has or nabbed a Space Grey bottom and would like a Silver one instead, I got one to trade.

I got email saying that shipping cost $161.57 is a mistake and I will get refund.     I sent them email and asked screws to be added.

Just a quick update as I'm still sorting through emails.

If you have multiple orders, I'll combine them, and refund you the total shipping difference next week

If you are international, I'll double check the quote, and email you about the quote if it's better.

Sorting things over the weekend

Your M65 will be on its way over the weekend.

Cheers

Reminder that the deadline for da guide is next week.

--

Regarding brass plates / weights, I'll have them in on 3/20 or so, and they'll be offered to original GB participants first, then at retail for the remaining units.

Clarification:

These plates are for those who wanted other colors, and requested additional plates be produced during the GB.

Do you know if the plate design has changed at all? Last I heard it wasn't optimized for split space.

It's been so long I don't remember -- was the kit supposed to come with cherry screw-in stabs? Mine just arrived with only case screws.

Ah, yup. It looks the GB kits were supposed to come with stabs. Another email to support I suppose.

Actually there is one very big issue with the plate, but that isn't related to the format of the file. It's that the left shift cutout is improperly sized for ISO build (with the split left shift).

I'll need to get a custom one cut at some point when I have time to request a quote from the local sheet metal fab company.

This issue will not affect anyone who is building this board with ANSI layout

After a nightmare of a time fighting with my bank and paypal and fretting that I would miss this chance to get a R1 M65-A and $500 later I am seriously kicking myself for not just getting in on this when it first went group buy. Lesson learned. But looking forward to my board.

In case anyone is interested, the SMK65 PCB from lfkeyboards does indeed fit in this case.  I have one it it right now.  Also, it works with the included plate.  So, if you want to put 2nd gen SMK swithces in your M65-A, you're in luck.
http://www.lfkeyboards.com/smk65.html
188576-0

I did some very very minimal sanding on the top edge of the PCB where the two posts inside the case made contact (the ones that come down to meet the bottom for screws).  I might have removed 1-2mm but no more.
188578-1

188580-2

The connections is micro USB, but it fits and I have no trouble plugging in my usb cable.

188582-3

I'm just not 100% sure I like the switches in this case.   I adore the sound and feel of these switches in my Siig minitoch, but they are not quite the same in this case.  They sound higher pitched and lack depth in comparison.  I'll have to sit on it few a weeks or so to decide.

A note about the PCB.  The owner of lfkeyboards has been a swell dude and very responsive to my emails.  He forgot to add the Piezo speaker on my board and is sending me a new board to fix the issue.  That's pretty nice customer service! The current revision of this PCB has issues with the first 3 underglow leds as you can see here.
188584-4

The new one he's working on for me will fix the issue by running jumper wires to make them work.  He plans to fix this in a new revision soon.

Also, since I've only tested the PCB with tweezers (shorting), I have no idea how well it will hold up or how easy it is to program.  But it looks top notch to me and it runs QMK.

Posted this to r/mk, but figured I may as well post here as well. Running into some issues with my board...

Just recently built up my M65-A and unfortunately having some problems. Whenever I press Backspace, the \ | key also registers (the reverse is also true - when I press \ |, backspace registers).
This happens for a few other keys in the same vicinity as well: R shift and up arrow and with ] and \ |.

Luckily, I was able to take everything apart rather easily as I'm currently using hot swap sockets in my M65. I'm pretty certain these sockets are not the cause of the issue as I've used these sockets in my Minivan and Roadkit and have 0 problems. I used extremely little solder as well (just enough to get the sockets to stay), so I don't think that's the issue either.

Here's a picture of my PCB: https://imgur.com/a/yBZbb. It looks a little wonky cause I had to take it as a panorama to get close enough to see the soldering job.

I don't believe this is a firmware issue either. Even though it's my first time using QMK and creating my own QMK keymap, the same issue also happens when I flash the default keymap.

Any ideas? Any help is appreciated!

Hey dude, how did you fit the hot swap socket into the pcb? Could you share a pic. Have some sockets ordered from Zeal, want to get them on

I didn't buy my sockets from Zeal, but I'd assume they're pretty similar. I just placed the sockets on the switches, then placed the switches into the PCB. From there I added a tiny bit of solder to each socket to keep it in place. You can check out some pics here: https://imgur.com/a/nVCi5

Hope this helps!

You'll wanna install the holtite Sockets Zeal (and others) sell differently though.
Holtite Sockets are press-fit, so you'll wanna press them in the contact hole first until you feel it "click" in, then they should stay put. (only need to put a tiny bit of solder on those that don't stay in well in case some holes are bigger)

Great video, but I guess the contest was a "Build Log" contest and not a "Tutorial" contest. Even though it's a great video, it's not a "tutorial". You couldn't give this video to someone to show how to correctly build & program an m65a.

Maybe I'm being pedantic on what's considered a tutorial. I would just feel bad for anyone who actually made a honest-to-goodness step-by-step guide.

Yeah that's a really really well done meme gif, not remotely a tutorial.

Definitely not a tutorial, I was hoping to see something that would help me put mine together, not a b-roll of r/memes.

The white looks super nice. I got mine in the mail today. I’m a little apprehensive about building it right now. This is the first board that I’ve spent this much on. Feels kind of like I don’t deserve to have such a nice board. Weird.

Totally agree, obviously took a **** ton of time and effort too. Can't help but think some people on this site actively seek out unimportant things to get wound up over.

I apologize if I came off as rude or unappreciative. I or anyone I know didn't enter the contest so I have no skin in the game. The video was very well done, no one is arguing that. I was just making the comment that if someone who didn't know how to assemble keyboards wanted a tutorial, that video wouldn't suffice. Personally this is my first time building and programming a keyboard from scratch so a tutorial would have been useful for me. I'm technical and a programmer and been around in the mech space for awhile so I think I can make do, but for anyone less knowledgeable would need to look elsewhere.

Agreed, not saying it didn't time or effort (although I do think it would have been improved by removing the pop culture gifs/memes), it just wasn't a tutorial, which I was hoping to see come out of the contest.

Nah, your comment was totally respectful to be fair. I dunno I guess it's difficult to assess as someone having the existing knowledge but I think a first-timer buying this would at least have some previous knowledge/interest in keyboards and their parts. Otherwise why would they be buying it? I think it does show all the steps of putting an M65-A together but I get where you guys are coming from, the focus wasn't on the tutorial aspect. I guess my way of looking at it is that it does show you how to put an M65-A together specifically and is still quite easy to follow in that respect. Definitely wouldn't suffice on it's own for a total beginner but for sombody who knows a bit, how to solder etc I think it would be OK.

That's fair enough man, I can understand that you think a more informative step by step type guide would have been better. I just think that there are so many of those out there but I appreciate that's not really the point at all haha =S. Yeh I'm personally not much of a fan of memes etc either, but a lot of people are I suppose!
