Any Gekhakr with Wound-Care Xperience ?
« on: Mon, 30 July 2018, 08:44:56 »

Right'o

It's been 36 hours since the Incident:

Glass meets finger, cleanly cut off ellipse discus shape

Major axis 9mm, Minor axis 6mm, 2.5mm thick in middle.

Lot's of blood

201016-0

Had Gauze on the wound,

Gauze is stuck

Attempted to Saline-Soak it off for 30 minutes, still Not coming off.

I cut around the gauze that isn't stuck, so only a piece which is approximately the size of the wound itself is stuck.

If I pry at it, it seems to bleed. Sooooooo,,, googled, not definitive.

Could I just put some alcohol on it annnd then some neosporin, then bandage around it ?

Does it HAVE to come off any time soon, or is it like a splinter, and u could leave it there w/out much consequence. ??

I would avoid putting alcohol on it.

Superglue it and move on.

Alternatively douse it in alcohol and set it alight - that should take care of the gauze  :D

But in all honesty, I have had some deep cuts, usually try to seal it with superglue. Try not to get it into the wound, but to seal the outer layer of skin. If it gets into the wound, it delays heeling time. This is a real challenge sometimes when you only have one hand left to work with (because you are working on the other).

Gauze is stuck

Not good. In an ideal situation the fabric will be incorporated in the scab and shed with it in a few days, but there remains a possibility that it is an infection trap. If you are not willing to rip it out or get professional help, try to keep it as clean as possible and re-apply ointment regularly.
Cognitive distortions are patterns of thought, typically automatic and unconscious, that cause an inaccurate, negative view of situations, people, and/or events. These include things like jumping to conclusions; black-and-white thinking; negative mental filtering; overgeneralizing; mindreading (incorrectly believing we know what others are thinking, what their motives are); and emotional reasoning (believing that if we are feeling something, or if what we are thinking is associated with a strong emotion, it must be true).

Yes, that's also what I always prescribe when someone in my lab gets hurt. In any way.
