Title: [IC] KEYKOBO RED CYRILLIC - GB from 7th to August 1st.
Post by: J0hnojoheneczko on Tue, 23 May 2023, 14:21:05
Hello everyone!

I would like to present you Something I've been working on for some time - Keykobo Red Cyrylic.
I figured I'd do GB by the fact that GMK Classic Retro Cyrillic had GB in 2017.
I've decided on keykobo because of lower prices, better quality, much shorter waiting time than GMK.

Are they offering pad print services? What is the durability of their pad prints? Do you have a prototype? Have you tested it yourself?

Reconsider your EU vendor
I strongly endorse this suggestion. (And I'm not even in the EU)

Some suggestions:

Label Rows
Label cap sizes
add 2u shift (optional)
add 4 keys to the numrow for UK ISO
Make alternate f and j scooped or nippled
add alternate 5
add split plus/mius
add 1u zero
add R3 1u pipe to work with the <> for terminal iso
change 1.5u backspace legend (optional but please)
Make sys req on print screen green to match real hasro
use R5 bottom row to match real hasro
Use text only on numpad enter to match real hasro

Use different EU vendor

Why name this "HASRO" when it has differences in sublegend font and placement and front prints compared to the keycap set from the Cherry ESA-3000-HASR0 keyboard?
- Sublegends on the pipe and tilde are located differently on the Cherry keyboard.
- Sublegend font on this set looks way thinner than the Cherry keyboard.
- The enter has front printed "Power" and all the front prints are red unlike on the Cherry keyboard.

If this is meant to be a replica of the Cherry dyesubed keycap set from the ESA-3000-HASR0 keyboard - you have quite a bit to change.
If it's not meant to be a replica of the OG Cherry set - why name is "HASRO"? "Keykobo red cyrillic" or something like that seems like way more fitting name.

Also, is this R4 or R5? I can't find that information in the IC.

I would strongly advice looking for an EU vendor that is not lying to their customers, employees, and designers. May I suggest Oblo, Keygem, or Eloquent.

I'm hesitantly interested, but I'd like to see some samples of KKB's pad printing before I were to participate in this.

Could full ISO-UK be added to this? You'd just need three more keys in addition to what's already included. GMK HASRO/SAV could be used as an example. (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=117328.0)

reach out to a different EU vendor please. 100% buying this if you get a better EU vendor.

and yeah, +1 for R5 support as KKB should already have most molds in place (mint dolch kit in Gigachad)

As much I heard good things about keybobo's double-shot (Compared to the price at least) but I can't recommend this unless I see the pad printing for myself so I feel a prototype is needed here. Also we would need to see the price of course.

+1 on changing the eu vendor, mykeyboard does not have the best track record.

Is the name inaccurate?
HASRO uses pbt dye sublimation, HAV uses ABS Doubleshot.

Regarding this one, please check the GMK HASRO thread https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=117328.0.

Basically, OG cherry had misplaced legends and a font that gives you permanent brain injury the moment you see it.

Sublegend placement and the font you have in the renders are perfect, please keep them this way.

ISO support is very weird, looks like you wanted to do UK ISO but gave up halfway through. IMO either commit to full UK ISO or do basic terminal ISO.

Also please consider swapping to a different EU vendor.

Thank you for fixing the ISO support, but still definitely want to see pad printing samples from KKB before this goes ahead. KKB's cool but very new and a lot of the community doesn't trust them yet. When I say samples I mean physical things in your hand with real photographs (not renders) to see how they'll look.

I have been thinking to learn russian so i might buy it, but would still like to see a latin alpha’s alt kit so I have the option to switch.

Does keykobo have done pad printing before?

I never had problems with mykeyboard, but i prefer candykeys because free shipping.

I've decided on keykobo because of lower prices, better quality, much shorter waiting time than GMK.

Better quality in what way? According to whom? Does KKB have a recessed stem like GMK? (CRP and XMI do not, making them "sit higher.")

Thank you for changing the EU vendor.

I would be interested in a 6u spacebar, like the one in KKB Miami Dawn.

Also, 'Cyrillic' is spelled with two L's, unless there is an alternate spelling I've never come across before.

it has better qc than gmk so it can be considered better quality because they don't allow to sell **** and of course i can add 6u spacebar

There hasn’t been a large enough sample size to say that keykobo has “better QC.” What we do know is that GMK legends are slightly better, but it doesn’t really matter as long as the price is about what you’ve estimated since it’ll be cheaper than most GMK beige sets. I do wish the texture wasn’t as smooth but that’s a personal thing.
