vertical is so comfortable for me

True "vertical" mice suck, in my opinion, because pushing a button moves the mouse (equal and opposite reaction) and you must restrain it with your thumb, an unnatural motion.

I love pseudo-vertical mice (which might better be called "diagonal") because you get the advantage of better wrist geometry but can keep the body of the device steady as you push the buttons. I started with a Wow Joy Pen years ago and when it died I got an Anker which I like better. Too bad they don't make a left-hand version because I keep mice on both sides, but a trusty Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical is a good simple ambidextrous choice for my secondary mouse.

I agree completely man; vertical mice mean thumbstrain. Hated using one.

rn i use a Fantech Aria XD7 (switched from a Razer Orochi V2 which i loved also) and I really love it but the battery life is so garbage even compared to the Orochi so im trying to find if theres something similar i can get with better battery... might just have to go back to the Orochi

for work i use an MX Master 3S which is great but the shape and weight arent ideal for gaming obviously

Been using a Shark SK137G wireless mouse at work. I like it because it's in between vertical and horizontal (but a lot more comfortable). It feels like it follows the natural curve of my wrist/hand.
Always looking for Alps SKCM/SKCL switches. Feel free to DM.

Logitech G1 cuz I have small hands

But I own 2 other logitechs. G302 and G Pro.

For office and CAD work they seem small enough to be moved in your palm, without having to move the arm at all.

best mouse to me, logitech g pro superlight. this mouse is seriously a game-changer.

its ergonomic design molded perfectly to my hand, the surface texture is ok but could be better, every click is a responsive. it's like it was custom-made just for me. i can't imagine using anything else now, worth every penny

Logitech G Pro for gaming, its got a great sensor and its super lightweight, but I enjoy using the Cobra Pro too, for its build quality.

I have ditched my Logitech mice until they fix the scroll encoder issues - moved to the Lamzu Maya 4k/X and have been loving it, only thing Logitech has on lock is the battery life.

Currently with my limited experience with trackballs, my fav is the Elecom Huge. I know that the common consensus is that the ball movement is scratchy and most people change out the bearings, I've not faced that issue so far. The ball movement is smooth for me.
The number of buttons and if you are on Windows /Mac, the way that you can customize the options with it is great.
There are only a couple of things that I do not like about the HUGE. One thing that I do not like is that the rubber wrist rest on the HUGE is starting to wear away and now once the top layer is gone, you get this black powdery residue - pretty much like dust.
The other is when you have to click and hold left click and then scroll at the same time. For that I think the Kensington Slimblade is better in its form factor or even a Thumb operated ball like Logitech M570 is better - both of which I've used before.
However I will state that HUGE lasted longer than the Slimblade.

Currently using a Microsoft Intellimouse 4.0, it's a little gunky but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The only gripe I have with it is that its highest DPI setting is far too low for my 2K display and libinput won't let me artificially crank it up past a certain point, but I live with it.

I'm a weirdo who keeps both a mouse and a trackball at my desk, but I've pretty well settled on my choices for the two of them. Here they are:

Razer Basilisk V3 Pro: Has virtually every feature under the sun, packed into a very G502/MX Master-like body. Butter smooth on wireless and the sensor tracks on my glass desk. The battery life is only okay, but I just dock it whenever I'm not using it (which is most of the time nowadays). Smart Reel is undoubtedly a gimmick, but it's neat. My main complaints is that it's not made out of PBT - which is insane to me given how expensive this mouse is, and that Synapse 4 is a total resource hog for no good reason. Otherwise, it's about as good of a combination work and gaming mouse that you can get in my book.

Microsoft Trackball Explorer: I bought this and a few other trackballs just to satisfy my curiosity - and I haven't been able to stop using it. It's quite comfortable and the sensor still feels plenty fast for my 3440 x 1440 display. The 46mm ball is just the right size for me and the chrome steel bearings have relatively little stiction. I also like the red glow ring surrounding the ball which really drives home that early-2000s optical mice aesthetic. Software is lightweight, and there's plenty of buttons to map out. This thing has almost completely replaced the Basilisk at my desk for virtually everything except for FPS games. Kind of a bummer there isn't really a perfect replacement for it though.

Honorable mentions:
  • Razer Mamba 2015: IMO, still just as good as any of Razer's current premium mouse offerings, minus nearly as heinous of a software experience. I kinda regret selling mine...
  • Microsoft Arc Touch Bluetooth Mouse: I freakin' loved this thing for travel. Folds almost completely flat and it feels more natural to use than it looks. The haptic scroll "wheel" actually feels pretty convincing. Also regret selling...
  • Logitech Trackman Marble FX: Out of all the trackballs I've owned, this has the best shape, hands down. Unfortunately, time has caught up to it and trying to work with that sensor is just pure pain. One of these days I'd like to try and fix it.
  • Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman: Same situation as above - really great shape (but not as good as the FX), old and slow sensor, all made even worse by 27 MHz RF wireless and a 50 Hz polling rate. This thing deserves to be so much better.
Raiding your local thrift store.
