Open source file/resource library
« on: Tue, 05 November 2013, 09:46:29 »
The first thing I want to do with the new wiki is make a library of open source files. I think it would encourage people to make stuff. It gives them a platform to build upon (they can learn from other peoples files), and encourages them to make their own designs open source.

Cases, PCBs, other stuff.

Komar has done absolutely astounding work on the GH60. MOZ has made plenty of great acrylic designs. I'll also be making the TEK-80 open source once I've built it.. although I'm not sure who'd have the cash to make one themselves :)) There is plenty of other stuff too, I just cannot think of it off the top of my head. I will be scouring making stuff together in order to hopefully compile a good amount of stuff.

Please post any designs, software, etc. that you think would fit here! Any thoughts welcome.

I can confirm this.  I had comissioned Photekq here for a really custom plate but due to manufacturing issues I decided to do some heavy tweaking (not twerking) to the plate and that has forced me to learn Solidworks.  Now I just need to convince myself to learn KiCad.  Also, OldDataHands said it was ok if I made the files for the Teensy Breakout board open source.  There is a trail of links to the thread with the files in my signature.  Start with the Brushed Behemoth build log.

Should the title be a bit more descriptive Photekq? Open Source Resource Library or Open Source File Library?

In this thread http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48851.0 we're trying to collect PCB design resources. I've created a github organization for geekhack (https://github.com/geekhack-org) where we currently have one repository - a part library for KiCad.
We could have repositories for other things as well, especially for "geekhack official" things. For example, I'm going to fork GH60 there when we've finalized the design, so that the organization contains the "official" repository, while other repos are modified and contributed to.
Similarily, we could put case and other designs there as repos if we can count them as "official"
